Over the years, I've owned multiple dogs, including highly trained working and personal protection K9s, and I am part of a professional K9 network where veterinary care standards and pricing are routinely discussed. When my dog Kooper was diagnosed with heartworm, I was given a treatment estimate of approximately $2,600. To be responsible, I contacted multiple Dallas-area veterinary clinics, including referrals from experienced K9 owners. Every comparable heartworm treatment protocol I was quoted came in under $1,000, with one clinic able to complete the full treatment safely for $850. That means this clinic's quote was nearly three times higher than every other option I was given. What was most disappointing was not the diagnosis--it was realizing that after three decades of loyalty, I was being quoted pricing that was so far outside prevailing market rates. That experience felt deeply disrespectful and permanently damaged my trust in this practice. This decision had nothing to do with cutting corners on care. I ultimately moved forward with another clinic that followed best medical practices at a fair and transparent price. This place is a scam. I canceled my work to take my dog to see Dr Kernes. They take me in the room and this tech named Adam is so harsh with my dog trying to shove him on the scale. Then he reads me a list of labs and vaccines. I told him that's not why he is here and he insisted on giving my vaccinated dog another Rabies shot. I asked for Dr Kernes and he told me she's not in today. That's when my head blew off from anger. I asked the front desk why I never received a courtesy call that the doctor canceled today and she had no answer. They wanted me to see some random vet. Dr. Pruitt who ran this clinic for years with the utmost care and concern for the animals he treated has retired and no longer at Buckner Animal Clinic. I tried continuing to take my pet here even though it's a rough part of town, but the new vet charges way more than Dr. Pruitt ever considered charging and the last few times I was there, they wouldn't allow you to go into the building with your pet. I had to wait in the car for over an hour. I understand Covid was going on, but even after it had slowed down and mask mandates were no longer an issue, they still made owners remain in the car. I recently visited Dr. Pruitt for a cropping procedure done for my pitbull puppy and fix his umbilical hernia. From the phone call to the end of Kobas follow up visit I enjoyed how great every encounter was. I did a lot of researching on the procedure because I was really hesitant about getting it done (my bf insisted). Every person I was on the phone with was courteous and helpful. I believe it was Janet who went out on her way to talk me through the procedure, explained dr pruitts experience, and went the extra mile to email me some of dr pruitts work. She put me as ease and handled my handful of questions without sounding annoyed! My bf was the one who took koba to his appt, unfortunately their electricity was out. Since the drive was rather long they offered to keep koba and call us if the electricity came back on in time to proceed (it did!) the plan was to do the ears and fix his umbilical hernia , but when we picked him up we found out they opt out to fix it. My bf was upset, but come to find out they were just putting Kobas health first... Koba had been under too long and it wouldn't have been safe to cont further. They explained thoroughly why and that the UH could easily heal on its own. Andddd offered to disc any anesthesia necessary if the UH doesn't end up healing on its on. I brought koba to his follow up and I got to meet dr Pruitt myself. I loved that he didn't dismiss my concerns at all and did not rush through the visit. I asked for kobas last vx and left wishing this clinic was closer to me. I wish I could cont to bring koba and spike here as their primary vet but it's too far. In conclusion, the place is great! I brought my dog in recently due to an emergency and the rude front desk girl refused to let me speak to the veterinarian. Not a good location to bring your fur babies to. They are only worried about taking your money. They make you spend extra money on unnecessary medications that don't even help your pet and they try to juice you for money on every visit including follow-up visits. I would not recommend this vet at all! And the customer service is horrible, the vet techs are rude and not concerned about their clients or of the pet's well being. All I needed was a prescription from the vet and they made me go 3 times before I could even get it and then they charged me for getting the prescription to get from another pharmacy that would be cheaper. I have always avoided Vetinarian clinics because of being scared of cost. When my dog got sick I tried two other clinics outside of town, trying to get the best price. Both turned me away, one didn't work with sick pets and the other was too full. I wasted gas and time. I'm grateful the staff at Buckner Animal clinic scheduled me a same day appointment AND they were so nice! Dr. Wiest was professional and cared for my dog while helping me keep my costs low. The best part was they gave me an estimate of the conservative procedures they believed would help my dog. Ive been a customer since 2009. My pet had passed away in 2021. Before the vet (Jeffery J Pruitt) retired and sold his practice to another incompetent company (USED TO BE FANTASTIC), which is a revolving door for new staff and management that is so inconsistent, and lack the quality and dedication to build relationships with many of us long time customers and see us only as numbers instead of human beings that were loyal to this location. Prices have gone up, and they treated me like trash. But, as the new company took over, the practices and Customer Service became very poor and incompetent. I just had a conversation right now with a stupid moronic individual named Karen (of all names ironically). She is a manager there. The idiotic buffoon stated that the office will no longer see my pet. But in the conversation that we had in 2020 during the pandemic, that was never stated. And I know this because the conversation was recorded. This conversation was with another manager, and since this clinic is now owned by a private company, when a staff/management/vet either quits or moves, the company quickly fills the spot with an outsider that knows nothing about the customers, so it becomes a revolving door. So because I was very blunt and very specific with this moron, she couldn't take the truth so she hung up on me. So now every time I call she doesn't answer my calls. I visited this clinic to get my dog's ears cropped. I looked around and did my research. This clinic offers the service at a little bit higher end of the scale, but ensures the safety of your pet. My dog's turned out great and he looks amazing. Though I am biased because it is my dog, his ears are symmetrical and how I asked for. I would definitely refer people here ear cropping. The office visit was 40.00 (a lot cheaper than I am used to) and the veterinarian that we had (they have different vets that frequent), gave us great advice without just wanting our money. She could have tried to sell us L-lysine for cats through the vet, but instead she was open and honest that you could use L-Lysine for people,which you can get at any vitamin store or the pet kind on amazon. She told us exactly what to do and asked us to call and let her know the results. I definitely will come here again. They are open weekends. Keep in mind that they do not do exotic pets--no bunny doctors, but they do cats and dogs. read more

First let me say that it doesn't appear to be a compassionate and animal loving veterinary clinic. The prices are not lower than others and the location and service are the worst. If you are looking for low cost shots, go to Hillside Village on Mockingbird (Sundays) or Petcetera in Mesquite. This clinic is no longer owned by the same veterinarian, Dr. Pruitt. I, unfortunately, referred my daughter (who lives in Austin) to bring her Marley here for surgery (eye enucleation) and it was a horrible experience. I would have rather payed double than to have to deal with inexperienced office staff, incapable billing staff, unempathetic doctors and in a horrible building that is not organized on any level. The technician that I had the pleasure to deal with was a wonderful, smart and dog loving contribution to an otherwise unqualified group of individuals. If you are looking for a wonderful staff, try EDVC. East Dallas Veterinary Clinic or Rutherford (a little expensive but nice). We came to Buckner Animal Clinic for Dr Pruitt to do an ear crop on our 15 wk old Dogo Argentino. It was very fast getting a consult and the turn around for surgery was only one week. We discussed the procedure with the tech, who had been helping Dr. Pruitt with his ear crops for 15 years. He was wonderful and thorough. We brought pictures of what we wanted the crop to look like, and that is exactly what we got! They are BEAUTIFUL! The crop was a wonderful experience for us. Upon getting the sutures removed, our pup had a small reaction to the "chill pill" given to him in order to get the sutures removed. I noticed ten minutes later in the car after we left and immediately turned around & took him back. Dr. Pruitt quickly & calmly administered a Benadryl shot to calm his hives. Dr. Pruitt even went out of his way to carry my sleepy pup (50lbs) to my car despite having a jam packed clinic due to their low cost vaccination day. It all worked perfectly and he was back to running around the yard with his toys just hours later! The entire clinic is kind, friendly and dedicated to their pups & wonderful clinic. read more

I do not recommend this clinic. I spent over $2500.00 on my two, very much loved, dogs. My elderly chihuahua mix has asthma and a heart murmur. The clinic recently took her off of her asthma medicine, which concerned me, as she has to struggle for every breath. When I expressed my concern as to why they were taking her off her asthma medicine, I was chastised for questioning and rudely informed that the asthma medicine would conflict with the heart medicine. The female veterinarian (who will remain nameless) went on to admonish me, stating she is the doctor and I know nothing about medicine and should not question her decision. She went on and on about her credentials, never suggesting anything to help relieve my dog's struggle to breathe. She was very unsympathetic to my dog's situation and very unsympathetic to my concern as an owner. I will be entrusting my dogs' care to a more professional and certainly more understanding/ caring veterinarian clinic immediately and I would highly suggest you reconsider if you're considering using this clinic. Their qualitity has dropped down and they try to nickel and dime the customers. About 3 weeks ago they did surgery on my baby's ear and it hasn't gotten better. Ever since my vet for years passed away a couple of years ago, I've visited every clinic in my area, hoping to find another vet who treated both the clients and patients as well as Dr. Schultze did. What I found instead were assembly line type clinics whose doctors and staff seemed more concerned with the bottom dollar than your pet's wellbeing. Then, there's Buckner Animal Clinic. I honestly have to give kudos to this place. The reception staff didn't just check me in each time I've been there; they've also asked about why I'm there, how my pet is, what they think about it. Also refreshing is that every time I've brought an animal in, I've actually seen a veterinarian. This may sound strange, but if it's a neuter or a spay, or vaccinations involved, the other clinics I've tried out in the last couple of years resulted in me meeting everyone BUT the veterinarian. And beyond the bonus of actually seeing a veterinarian, he or she asked questions, took their time listening to my responses. They don't push for not-needed procedures or tests in order to tack on extra charges, don't lecture or talk down to their clients. I really and refreshingly can say that this clinic knows what they're doing, does it well, appreciates pet parents who care, and really just want to make your pet feel better. For the record, I've left far less glowing reviews online, at this site and others, for the other clinics I've been to, and as a result, I feel the need to stress here that this clinic has all my praise because it's been the only one to stand out and really be what I'm used to a good vet and a good vet clinic being. I brought my ten year old pit Jackson to this facility when he was starting to go downhill in health. I was a mess emotionally every time we came in for his comfort. The staff was extremely kind in giving my Jackson the gentlest attention. Dr. Pruitt was very sweet and gave me the low down on various options in his care and the possible outcomes. The staff was very accomodating in our last minute appointments when things were getting worse. I would give a no star review if i was able. PLEASE READ!!We came from Austin to bring our animal Marley here. It was recommended to us because they were friendly and low cost. Let me tell you, neither of these things is true. I have never in my life dealt with such horrible people. They DO NOT care about animals. They are constantly irritated, they do not communicate whatsoever with the owner or even each other and this is evident when you talk to a different person in the office/or a doctor and they have no clue what you're talking about. I tried calling to ask about my Marley and they were rude and dismissive. They didn't even pretend to seem like they cared about my animals well being. The vet made it clear she cared more about her reputation than she did the well-being of my dog. She refused to give my dog antibiotics before her eye removal surgery because she didn't want to have liability. This was after they had taken a blood panel on my Marley. The nurses were even surprised that she was not given antibiotics. We were scheduled to bring Marley in at 8, which we did. She did not go into surgery until 2pm. While I understand things happen and it gets busy, Marley hadn't had food or water in over 15 hours since she was supposed to have surgery in the morning. When I called to ask about how she was doing and if she had been in surgery yet they just told me that "in a perfect world it would've worked out like that". Can you imagine not hearing anything about your animal who was supposed to go into surgery and calling thinking she's already done and she hasn't even started the process of anesthesia? And then being told that? Simple communication goes very far, understanding goes very far. They were incapable of doing either. My dog is my baby, I care about her more than anything and I brought her to the vet thinking they would care for her and treat her well. This was not the case. My poor baby, my Marley, was terrified absolutely terrified the whole time and I can say with absolute certainty they did not to anything to assuage these fears in my dog. I was overcharged on things I told them multiple times days before to take off. All of the unnecessary things like micro chipping and a cone. They did not even scan Marley for a microchip, if they had they would have seen that she has one and has had it for many years now. They charged me for all of these things anyways and even charged me again for medicine I had already paid for at the first visit. They only care about the cost and not the pet. The parking was terrible and the service was worse. I have never been more infuriated by the simple disregard of respect for my animal. My Marley did not deserve to be treated bad. On top of everything else they refused to give her any actual pain regulation meds for after surgery. Only giving her the equivalent of low pain Tylenol. It took many MANY attempts of calling and explaining symptoms for them to even consider giving her medication. Again after having her eye removed! Tylenol! She was up all night crying. If you care about your animal AT ALL then you understand how gut wrenching and heart breaking it is to hear your animal crying and not being able to do anything about it. If you care for your animal please take them somewhere else. There were so many problems with this place I can't even begin to list them all. I can't even explain how mad I am at this place and how sorry I feel for my dog because of what she has had to go through because of this place. Please take your animals anywhere else. We scheduled an appointment for Pre-surgical and ear crop for several pups in our litter. We made this appointment weeks ago, and were told that the pups would have a Pre-surgical exam and then stay for surgery. We drove an hour to get to the clinic, and one of our puppy clients drove two hours to meet us there. We took the day off work for this, and so did our client. When we arrived, Dr. Pruitt told us he couldn't do the ears, as he had too many surgeries scheduled today. So, basically, we planned ahead and scheduled ahead. We took off work and travelled to the clinic for the ear crops we had scheduled weeks ago. We arrived early, and were told we basically wasted our time, gas and a day off work. They could have called us to let us know. That didn't happen. We will never come back, and we definitely don't recommend business here. Very poor and disrespectful business practice, and it's very clear that the patient/client is unimportant to these folks. read more
