Just got back from VEG. Our puppy had an allergic reaction. They did partial check just to get him in the system. Then sent me a link to complete. They took us back before I did the rest of the check in. They were busy but also had enough staff that my puppy was quickly seen and taken care of. They gave him and shot and we had to wait to make sure it worked. While waiting I observed staff (admin, techs and vets) with people and their pets. Such care and compassion shown. Crazy busy day at this veterinarian clinic. I was worried about my cat. He was acting strangely, and they told me to come in even though they were super busy they would see him. Immediately, upon arrival, one of the technicians took all of his vitals and put me in a room to wait to see the doctor. It was such a relief to hear that he didn't have anything life-threatening going on and since they were so busy, I decided to leave and see my regular vet this week . I wanted to shout out to them for their professionalism and compassion in helping me to establish that my cats vital signs were normal, and he was not in any major danger. I brought my 15yr old, quirky ol man in... cat. He was bleeding from the mouth. Didn't know why. The hardest decision was made to let him go. He's a high anxiety little guy and the stress, sedation and everything could very well have killed him anyway :( The staff, from the front desk person, to the staff in the back were beyond kind, gentle, sympathetic, patient. They never made me feel rushed, or insignificant. It was like we were their only ones in there.... BUT they were very busy!!! I can't express enough how incredible this place is. After searching for a vet's office that wasn't booking weeks out, I was referred here by Canyon Creek. I was able to go in with my Indy right away. He was pretty sick, so they started working with him as soon as they checked him over. Unfortunately, during today's visit, we discovered Indy had cancer which had quickly caused him to deteriorate. Indy was 15, which is very old for a Bengal. I had to let him go, so it's been a really bad day, but I know if I don't write this now, I'll forget. The entire staff here is amazing. I can't remember names, but the minute you walk through the doors you're made to feel as if you and your pet matter. The receptionist was so kind and even brought me tissues to where I sat when tears got the better of me. The ultrasound technician helped me understand what I was seeing in the screen. She answered my questions completely. And she took her time to make sure she knew what was happening with Indy. The nurses clearly love their furry patients. They talked to Indy, gave him scratches and head rubs, and cared about him. And, finally, the veterinarian talked me through every procedure. She was there with me when Indy passed and was so compassionate about the entire event. I was able to be with Indy from the moment I walked through the doors, until I had to say goodbye. For every test and examination, Indy had me by his side, which was comforting for both of us. Despite the outcome of today, I can't say enough good things about the professionalism, expertise, and kindness of everyone here. read more

I cannot recommend this emergency vet enough! My geriatric, arthritic cat took a tumble down the stairs injuring his back left leg. He couldn't stand and could barely walk. Not being able to get into my regular vet I decided to bring my baby here. They were absolutely wonderful from start to finish. From the very kind, caring techs to Dr. Salazar, I felt like they truly cared, kept me informed and went above and beyond to ensure my boy was taken care of. I highly recommend this ER vet! I took my pup Hogan in because he was lethargic and had pale gums. They staff was waiting outside for him and saw him immediately. He ended up getting an emergency splenectomy to remove tumors that were causing internal bleeding. I was able to be with him every step of the way. The staff keeps you involved and informed which was amazing. Dr. Cruz and Dr. Salazar, along with the rest of the amazing team (I remember the names Emma and Elton but there were so many more who helped over his 2 night stay). They never made me feel bad when I asked questions and they were soooo sweet to my dog and all of the other animals. As much as I love the open concept, it was extremely difficult to see one of the dogs that didn't make it along with having to see the owner grieve. This caused a little more anxiety with my situation and was just very, very sad (This is at the fault of nobody but thought I would mention it so you can prepare yourself). Luckily, my boy made it out and is doing amazing thanks to their hard work and care. I am forever grateful for the team. The staff and Doctors here were so kind and it was obvious they really cared about our babygirl and getting her better. We had to take our dog River here last minute on a Sunday night as he had a major episode of throwing up followed by red and droopy eyes. I am beyond thankful we found VEG. Dr Carter and the entire staff were absolutely amazing in caring for our dog. Every person working was so nice and was sure to say Hi to River. You could tell they all genuinely cared about our dog. I really valued how they gave us a whole break down of the quote on the tests we could do but then talked to us about each one. It really helped us as it would have been very hard paying for the entire quote. We were able to narrow down a treatment and it immediately worked for River. We were so impressed with the level of service we received at VEG. It was our first time and our pup wasn't feeling well and we decided to bring him in out of caution. The immediately greeted us and brought us into the center. We loved how we got to stay with our pet the entire time. We got blood work, X-rays & and ultra sound done and it turned out our dogs spleen was enlarged. We were instructed to return the following day so radiology could conduct a more in-depth ultrasound in which they discovered his spleen had twisted. This resulted in immediate emergency surgery. (Splenectomy). They prepped us and walked us through all the steps. We felt like our pup was in great hands the whole time and you also see how they're treating other patients at the same time. We loved how their team was so collaborative with everything going on. We also loved how easily we were able to speak with a doctor. Once my pup was prepped and ready for surgery, they took him in and offered to let me stay if I wanted. I ended up going home so they called with updates. They let us know once the surgery was over and when the night Dr. was taking over. We also got a call early in the morning. Our pup stayed the night for close monitoring and that made us feel comfortable. We were able to pick him up the following evening where the gave us all the updates and his meds. We were so impressed by the entire team and how involved everyone was. Special shout out to Dr. Cruz, Dr. Mortimer, the radiologist, receptionists, surgery team, and all the sweet nurses who helped out. We felt very taken care of the entire time and even though there was a lot going on in the ER, it never felt chaotic. Thank you to VEG for the best care! Extra note: when they quote you for the services needed, if something doesn't end up being necessary, they refund you after the fact. This is not somewhere you want to end up with your pet, but I am so thankful we found VEG and were referred here from VCA when they turned us away. After our experience with both our dogs, we will never go anywhere else during an emergency. VEG is unique in that they have an open floor plan, meaning you can stay with your pet through every step of treatment and testing. They don't just whisk your pet off to the back and leave you scared and worried about what's happening. They literally let us sleep on the floor next to our dog overnight. Unfortunately, our 8 year old pup was anemic and after some tests, we found out he needed emergency surgery to remove a splenic tumor. The doctors saw him right away, kept us in the loop every step of the way, gave us a private room to give us some space to process the diagnosis and had our dog prepped for surgery immediately after we decided to go ahead with it. Oscar was hospitalized for a day and a half, for which we stayed with him the majority of the time. VEG saved his life, and even though we later found out his prognosis was only weeks to months following surgery, we owe all our extra time with him to the doctors and nurses at VEG. Not only do they care for your pet here - they care for you. The nurses were incredibly nice to my husband and I, offering us food and water, feeding Oscar chicken from their lunches to entice him to eat. We are just so grateful. We found ourselves back at VEG a couple months later with our puppy who was having an allergic reaction and we received the same compassion. Yes, emergency vet care is expensive. Yes, you should get pet insurance and yes, the care we received from VEG was worth every penny. read more

My dog Leia started showing signs of labor earlier than we expected in the middle of the night so we called multiple emergency vets that were open and they were all saying they wouldn't be able to perform emergency c section if she required it until we called VEG, they told us to bring her in so we immediately did. We loved the fact that they had an open space and was able to be by her side at all times(except during surgery but they windows for us to observe)! They preformed surgery on her and had a successful outcome thank God. All 9 puppies and Leia made it out healthy and safely! I have been meaning to write this review for the past few months! I need to say how grateful I am for these people for caring for my dog with the sincerest compassion in the most difficult time. We took our dachshund Zeus in after having a traumatizing experience at another emergency veterinary hospital. He was suffering from aspiration pneumonia relating to his megaesophagus. The vet techs and veterinarians alike immediately began administering him care and put him in an oxygen tank and we were able to stay with him the whole time (even watch his x-rays). They met us where we were at and saved his life. I wish I could remember all the vet techs names but every single one of them treated him like their own beloved animal. Dr. Salazar, Dr Benco, and Dr. Hsieh saved his life. He is now doing much better and I have these people to thank for getting him through. read more

The experience at VEG is very dependent on the vet that is on duty when you arrive. We previously had a good experience at this VEG with another Vet; it was not life threatening situation. When we arrived there was only one vet available to see us. I knew our dog was dying but the vet tech dismissed my concerns. The vet, Dr. Cruz, had us wait for a long time with a dying dog while she entered data into a computer for other patients. Our dog ultimately died. Could she have been saved if action had been taken immediately, we will never know. Additionally, Dr. Cruz showed no compassion or sense of urgency. Clearly, someone else should have been entering data into a computer while our dog was dying. This is a serious VEG issue. Our bill was $3000 and they performed three tests (ultrasound, x-ray, and blood work). The lack of compassion or sense of urgency by the vet tech and Dr. Cruz is inexcusable. We will never return to VEG in Encinitas; We will find an alternative. I recommend you do the same. read more

No exam room just bring you their environment and let you be bedside with your fur baby. I like that you have the option to come back with your pet. It was totally transparent and I was able to watch all the work they did for my pet. Sadly, he was at the end of his life and we had to say goodbye to him two days later. Another thing I appreciated was the fact that my Vet had the notes and x-rays the next day. On October 15, I took my 11 year old shih tzu to a pet urgent care in San Diego and she was diagnosed with an allergic reaction to something - possibly to her Nexgard oral flea pill which I had given to her around 30 minutes before she broke out in hives. She was given two shots and we were sent on our way. Unfortunately, a few hours after we got home, the shots wore off and my dog began breaking out in hives again and could not get comfortable in bed. Since the urgent care had already closed, I took my shih tzu to VEG in Encinitas where she was treated for bronchitis almost a year and a half ago. Dr. Cruz (aka "Cruz Control") did agree that my dog definitely had an allergic reaction to something and recommended Benadryl to help stop the itching. I had no idea that you could give a dog Benadryl but I gave her the recommended dosage over the next two days and not only did the hives disappear, my dog returned to her normal self. Thanks Dr. Cruz for helping my dog at 4 AM and for the Benadryl recommendation. My shih tzu Molly thanks you as well! read more

The staff are friendly and clear in their communication, and I loved being able to wait with my pup and stand with him while they treated him. I cannot not say it enough.... These people are INCREDIBLE!!!! I've been meaning to post for a couple months now, since my once-sick baby boy is now recovered and happier than ever! Back in late September, I had the biggest scare of my life when I had to rush my 4 year old Shih Tzu, Koda, to the ER, after he was vomiting blood and overcome with lethargy. Immediately after arriving, the staff was quick to be attentive and compassionate towards a scared mom and her hurting furry baby. After tests were run, Koda was diagnosed with early onset pancreatitis and had excess fluid build up in his intestines. Upon trying to administer an IV to get some blood work, the techs had me join them to try and calm him down since he was a bit squirmy. Of course, I myself struggle with various health issues; vaso-vagal syncope being one of them. So yes, you can guess it... I passed out! Not only did the girls at VEG get me immediate medical attention, they also watched over my baby boy and made him right at home until I returned from the hospital. Not to mention, making regular contact via text and phone calls to update me on his test results/eating/bathroom breaks/over all well being! I am so grateful for all all the help and compassion that they showed the two of us during such a crazy and scary time. Koda is now 2 pounds lighter, and more energetic than ever. I feel like I have my little puppy back again! I really owe the world to them for saving my baby boy! read more

My 14 year old dog was struggling -- not eating and occasionally having trouble standing or walking. After a couple of weeks of taking her into my regular vet (who is a very good vet), one Saturday was finally so bad I took her into VEG. We were immediately helped and taken to the scale to weigh her and then to a table where Dr. Mortimer met us and asked about what was going on. She listened attentively and offered a plan to figure out what the problem was. There were assistants everywhere -- hooking up IV lines, giving her oxygen, and doing I don't even know what else. An ultrasound determined that Dusty had a large mass on her spleen that was occasionally rupturing. Dr. Mortimer offered a treatment possibility, but also gently and kindly let me know that it would be hard on a 14 year old dog. I made the decision to euthanize Dusty. It was a very difficult thing to choose but it was the best for her. They offered us a private room and thoroughly explained the process. I NEVER left her side. From the minute we walked in until Dusty was gone, I was able to be with her, pet her and reassure her that I was there. As devastating as it was to lose Dusty, I can't imagine any scenario that would have been better. I wouldn't go anywhere else for emergency care for an animal than VEG. They were amazing. read more

They made me feel like my Pet was the cutest thing on the planet, albeit there would be right. 2. Doctor is super communicative and was quick to continually touch base with me 3. Got my Pet ready to go home, removing all worries I had. Opps 1. It is expensive, but it's ER so not much else I can say 2. Was a bit slow, but they only had one Doctor on staff that night and she was super caring, so that makes it better 3. Coffee machine doesn't have enough flavors. I waited forever, they need to step up their coffee game. They did have snacks. Overall highly recommend it if you need emergency care. Always tough choice to wait or go. Go if you have any doubts, or you would never forgive yourself. Mine ended up being something minor, but I slept well knowing I took care of my office mate. read more

They do prioritize if a patient is more stable than the other so please be aware you are not being put on a back burner, and they treat your animal where your animal is most comfortable (which is awesome). Anyway, they are so kind and compassionate and want the most comfort for you and your animal. Full transparency here, they give you a price breakdown and don't judge you for choosing. They helped stabilize my cat when she stopped eating and got really dehydrated. She's now back to eating and drinking so I can take her to my primary care on Tuesday for further testing. Our dog woke up with weakness in both hind legs and we were sent home with pain meds and told it was just a minor disc herniation and to follow up with our regular vet in 2 weeks and that 90% of dogs fully recover. No imaging was discussed so we were under the impression they didn't have imaging capability. We were then sent home with paperwork saying to see a neurologist for a repeat examination within 24 hours and that this was likely a "surgical emergency" which was completely contrary to what was discussed in our short visit. Dr. Amanda failed to explain the gravity of the situation which led to a negligent delay in care and exorbitant expenses to put our dog down the following morning after a night of her writhing in pain and losing complete control of both hind legs. Failing to admit the dog for observation and not taking the time to do a careful examination, despite an empty lobby and full staff, lead to our dog spending her last night in agony and us helpless to help her as we were sent home with only minor pain medication and an exorbitant bill. read more
