The food here is so good! I haven't been back here for a few years but we got it yesterday and it was great. Got the pick two deal with Beans/quinoa & the kale caesar! While I still am not a fan of kale...it didn't ruin the salad this time. (But I probably will ask for lettuce only next time) The employees there were all very friendly and it was quick service. Obviously everything here is vegetarian. They have "chicken" sandwiches and you wouldn't know you're not actually eating chicken. It doesn't feel like a compromise eating here if you're not a vegetarian. That's what's amazing. My favorites are Santa Fe Crispy Chicken sandwich, the Buffalo Wings, the Quinoa Power Salad, and the sweet potato fries. They also have fresh lemonade in different flavors with free refills. They have some outside seating with heaters. They have a lot of seating inside. You order at the cashier and then they bring it out to you. read more

We always look for somewhere new for date night. My partner and I both like meat but I sometimes like to go for veggie-only meals and tonight felt like a good night to do that so we went for it, but no. Just no. I ordered a tofu bowl for my partner and they put fake chicken in it. The texture was so disgusting, we both almost threw up just by putting our tongues on it. I got the BLTA (fake bacon) and ended up scraping everything off except the avocado on a piece of bread. Basically, if you're trying to be healthy or actually like meat, don't go here. There are plenty of vegetarian or vegan options elsewhere. And, don't let the menu pictures on the website fool you. It does not taste like it looks. read more

My family and I stopped in for dinner last night. We were all very excited since we've heard so much positive feedback. The menu is easy to navigate, the place is beautiful... I feel like I'm in something between an IKEA store and the movie set from A Clockwork Orange. For my son, we ordered the Chickin' Nuggets off of the kids menu. He really like the chicken, however he wasn't a big fan of the sweet potato fries, he definitely liked the cookies!!! We had the Buffalo Bomber and the VG Cheeseburger. For sides we had the Steamnin' Kale and the Cauli-Mashed potatoes. Really enjoyed it all, wasn't a big fan of the dressing/sauce on the kale, there was a conflicting flavor with everything else on our plates. I want to note that the kale was cooked perfectly! We all just drink water, however I noticed a lot of options for teas and juices as well as alcoholic beverages too. We didn't eat for hours after our meal, we were all so satisfied without that greasy, crappy feeling. We will definitely be returning, you could be eating at Red Robin for the same price... but for junky food. read more

My wife recommended this place a few times so I stopped off with our kids last weekend and really enjoyed it. I had the Santa Fe "Chick'n" sandwich (I'm guessing it's TVP) which includes a nice soft bun and guacamole in addition to the veggies. Had cabbage coleslaw on the side which was pretty good too. My 6 year old had the mac-n-cheese and I appreciated that even though there was a little dessert with it (Oreos) it also had healthy "side" choices (oranges or kale). Food came out super fast, which was a surprise to me - I expected it to take another 5-10 minutes. Seems like lots of choices in both the vegan/gluten-free range, vegetarian that's obviously so, and the "let's imitate a meat dish" - something to please everyone but the ardent carnivore (scurvy much?). Only complaint is it's a little weird they bring the food, but not the silverware/napkins (you get those yourself) - a little extra signage up-front (Order here, go over here get this stuff, wait at your table your food comes, etc) would be helpful. read more

It may have been the dumbest question the cashier at Veggie Grill had heard all day. My sister-in-law arrived in Seattle earlier that morning and looking for a restaurant to accommodate her vegan diet, we had decided to check out the new (at the time) Veggie Grill at University Village to see if it might have some options that met her needs. So, when I asked, "Is anything on your menu vegan?" it was a question mixed with good intentions and simple ignorance. And who can blame me? Sure the name Veggie Grill implied a healthy menu, but whether the menu might be totally vegan never actually crossed my mind. As we walked in and scanned the menu framed on the wall, my uncertainty rose. After all, with menu items that include crab cakes, cheeseburgers and hot "chickin'" sandwiches it seems perfectly reasonable to feel an element of confusion. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Including that meal I've now eaten at Veggie Grill three times and it has not only become our favorite restaurant at the Village, but one of our favorite restaurants in all of Seattle. So far I've tried the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin' Sandwich ($8.95), the Thai Chickin' Salad ($9.95) and the Buffalo Bomber ($8.95) and in each case the food has been nothing short of scrumptious with tastes true to the food items they are trying to replicate. If all vegan food tasted this good I could possibly be convinced to give up my carnivorous ways. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. Sure, it's more of a fast food (or even cafeteria) setting than full service restaurant (you place your order at a counter and they give you a number to take to your table), but it doesn't have that gross fast-food restaurant feel to it. There is also a modest outside area that we were able to sit at during our last visit. The employees are very friendly, always greeting you with a smile and ready to assist in any way that will enhance your dining experience. Of course all of this upscale-ness comes at a price and Veggie Grill comes in on the expensive side of the fast food spectrum. Add a side upgrade, a few drinks or even dessert and a meal for four can easily top $60. Still, Veggie Grill clearly has hit upon a winning formula - a fact validated by their rapid expansion across the left coast. Surely a full national expansion can't be far off. Beyond that, one wonders (and hopes) that the company has plans to package and sell their winning products at grocery stores. I for one would have it in my shopping cart nearly every trip. read more

What is not to like about a restaurant that you can eat healthy and it's extremely tasty!?!? I've been twice since they opened last week and I am hooked! It's going to be my new go to lunch spot in the Village! The chickin' as it's called ... you can't tell it's not the real thing! The Santa Fe Crispy Chickin' is what I first tired and LOVED ... as I said, you can't tell you're not eating meat ... therefore, you are being healthy and still get your comfort food fix. YES I think I will ... next up I tried the All Hail Kale salad and added the chickin' .... let's just start with, I am a big salad snob ... it's truly one of my favorite meals as you can do a lot with a salad. Some places try to do too much and mess up, and some do too little .... Veggie Grill got it just right! Crspy, flavorful and filling! Their customer service is top notch, yes they are still new and the big bosses have been around, but something tells me that the attitudes will stay up beat and helpful with menu choices. I work in the Village and after popping in for a salad the other day, I wanted a refill on my tea (super tasty if you mix the unsweetened and I think it was the pomegranate) I tried to pay for a refill, but they wouldn't let me ... yet another reason to love these guys!!! My first experience trying an all veggie menu and wasn't disappointed at all by the choice of food I ordered. I had gotten the Thai Chicken wrap which tasted very much like chicken if you didn't know it contained no meat at all. The wrap itself was very tasty with it being packed with different veggies and a nice sweet and sour sauce to accompany it. I was very full by eating just half of it and was glad that it had been cut in half without even requesting. It is very interesting that even though they describe meat on the menu, but in actuality it is all vegan!! The restaurant is very contemporary looking inside with nice lighting fixtures and I enjoyed the modern layout of the place very much with table seating in the middle and booth seating on the sides. Ok, so this place is happening. It is at the University Village, has nice ambience and a bit of a modern edgy decor. The experience is like going to a Chipotle but with people who bring your order to your table. The service is not much past this - I think they also bring water to your table now and then. The problem I have is with the food. Most of the food is highly processed to make it look and taste similar to meat. There are few veggie options for a vegetarian who doesn't like the taste of meat. If you are someone who loves meat and are now a vegetarian then this place would be highly recommended! Otherwise if you are a vegetarian looking for good wholesome and comforting vegetarian food then this is not the place. I also found my portion of food to be small for almost $10 and a semi fast food experience. Overall, I would only recommend people to try this place once to see if it fits your needs. With a name like Veggie Grill, you'd think this place would be totally healthy. The concept is nice - veggie based proteins, but it's really a fancy fast-food restaurant in disguise. Yes, the food was tasty, but much of it is processed or pre-prepared. A check of the nutritional menu (http://www.veggiegrill.com/docs/VG_Calorie_Summary.pdf) might yield some surprises. Those sweetheart fries? Yikes, carb-attack. And that's not including that dip that comes with it. At least the protein content of most of the items was decent. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was tasty and should satisfy even the most fervent carnivore. Yum! I've visited twice, and both times the food was delicious (I'm not a vegetarian). Tried the all hail kale salad (really tasty), the papa's portobello burger (delicious), corn chowder (good, not too salty), and chili (the only thing i haven't enjoyed, because it was way too salty). Will definitely return, and have already recommended it to many other friends! Great drink options too (different teas and lemonades - note they don't sell soda!) Veggie Grill is a great place to grab food to eat, whether to fight off the shopping munchies or to get a full meal. They have two huge, enlarged menus on the wall for you to look at before you get to the counter and the staff there is good about greeting you and seeing if you need assistance ordering. They also offer samples of their food so you can get a taste before committing to a full order of it, which I think is both generous and smart on their part. Of the appetizers I've had, I would recommend the sweet potato fries (great texture and taste) and buffalo wings (faux meat that's got the consistency of chicken, celery sticks, and a ranch dip). Of the sides, the chili is loaded with beans, sprinkled with green onions, and comes with two sesamed tortilla chips. Beware it's got a nice spicy kick to it. And that half of the sesame seeds will slide off your chip. (We learned the hard way.) I have had many entrees now and I think they really do the faux chicken well. So, you can't go wrong with the Crispy Santa Fe Chickin' Sandwich, Blackened Chickin' Plate, or the Crispy Chickin' Plate. And fyi, the kale is good. It's fresh, steams to a beautiful saturated green color, and is drizzled with a miso ginger dressing. So simple yet so good--how things should be. Dessert is divine. For a vegan joint, you really couldn't tell that any of their items are made without dairy. The chocolate pudding is creamy as all get out. And comes with fun crunchy bits to make the pudding interesting. The carrot cake is one of the best I've ever had: moist, not overpowering in taste, and approved by Mom. (And you know Moms know their stuff.) And their cookies are an all-around good tasting cookie. Oh and their plethora of iced teas are tasty. They come in different fruity flavors, some sweetened, some not. All in all, I really enjoy Veggie Grill. The only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is because the customer service is so stellar at the South Lake Union location. For example, there were quinoa bits on the table we grabbed here and I don't think you'd find that at the SLU location. The UVillage staff seems younger and maybe needs a little more training/experience to be completely on top of things. They were friendly and professional enough but still a little "ripe" if you know what I mean. But that's just being nit-picky. I'm still a fan and would totally recommend this place to others. I never thought I would enjoy a vegetarian place this much but Veggie Grill has the veggie thing down! Very flavorful. Their menu and items remind me of Chaco Canyon. The offerings are very similar but the atmosphere and overall experience is not as crunchy. I love meat and go for roast beef, brisket, beef au jus, etc. when available. But, I tried Veggie Grill and really enjoyed it. The people working there are very friendly. Their salads are huge but for $10, I think the kale salad could have used some more protein to make it more substantial. There could have been some beans or something like that to make it more satiating. Just kale with some other veggies mixed in does not make a $10 salad a good purchase. The sweet potato fries were excellent and very tasty dipping sauce. I loved my BLT with tempeh bacon. It was very tasty. Being a person who generally enjoys dining upon things that have had parents (h/t Katy H), when I first heard of the all-vegan, all-the-time Veggie Grill I thought "Yeah, make me a reservation for Never:30." However, I am an ENORMOUS sucker for trying every new restaurant within a five mile radius (and the pre-opening party invite helped) so in I strolled. Flash-forward a few months and I have become a repeat customer thanks to two menu items: The B-Wing Salad and the Sweetheart Fries. The salad is a kaleidoscope of yes - spicy buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, corn, pico de gallo, avocado, carrot and some sort of faux poultry made out of what? Bark? File it under who cares because it makes my tastes buds feel like they're dropping Molly at a rave. And the Sweetheart Fries? WUT?! Sweet potato fries are great, but the magic sauce they serve them with is an intoxicating mixture of spices, unicorn milk and I assume heroin because it's highly addictive. Though I commonly practice avoidance of foods that blatantly drop letters and insert apostrophes, (Kickin', P'Zone, etc.) I tried the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin' and it was pretty good, but not great. I'd stay away from all the desserts except the Carrot Cake because it tastes like any non-vegan carrot cake leading me to believe they've hired witches to develop the menu. Definitely don't get the pudding because it's a scoopful of sad -- that will especially hit you when they are playing Adele, an artist in heavy rotation on the Muzak track there for reasons unknown. If I'm going to listen to Adele and eat my feelings, I am not going to choose vegetables. Overall, meat fans will be surprised by this place. People trying to stick to resolutions will feel like they've gamed the system. I came here today with my friend and we were told we had to wait 30 min for our food which was fine with us. My Santa Fe crispy chickin came out right at 30 min and it was very tasty. However, my friend's food did not come out until an hour later!! Unbelievable. Her food was cold! However, they were very kind about it and offered us a free cookie. Who needs meat when you've got Veggie Grill! My workplace had an event catered by VG last Friday and they did a fantastic job! I considered myself a die-hard carnivore and I was shocked that halfway through my "chicken" sandwich a coworker of mine mentioned that all the food was vegan and the sandwich in my hand was in fact meatless. Right now, the parking situation at U Village is a bit nightmarish. However, if you can find a parking spot and are hungry, you should definitely try Veggie Grill. It is clean, bright, and super inviting with nice staff and clean bathrooms to boot. We had Carne Asada, which was not bad but not great. The V-Burger tasted just like a regular burger with a delicious charbroiled flavour. You get to choose either red cabbage slaw or chili for a side. The cabbage was chopped not sliced, so the slaw had a different texture. It was not too seasoned, but I liked it better than the "chili' that tasted a lot more like baked beans (with less spices and flavour). Of all the things we ordered, the V-Burger was absolutely the tastiest thing. Their yam fries looked pretty fantastic as well. I can't wait to go back and try something different! read more

First, my complaint: Funny tasting kids mac and cheese. My daughter found it distasteful, and I understand why. It had an odd sweetness, and it lacked the 'bite' one expects from cheddar cheese. Good thing that we got that out of the way, because I've got nothing but praises otherwise. This is not cuisine, this is vegetarian comfort food, and its GOOD comfort food. I am not a vegetarian by a long shot, and my Santa Fe faux 'chicken' sandwich was really good. I got the mashed potatoes in cauliflower gravy as a side, and my child inhaled it before I could get 3 bites. Understandable, because it was crazy good. Food was fresh and well prepared. Staff was friendly and helpful. Decor is a bit garish, but hip to be sure. Like I said above, I am not a vegetarian, but I would not hesitate to wander in here and get lunch. Coincidentally, Veggie Grill replaced the only other store worth the trip to University Village. The food is decent gut-bomb comfort- food vegetarian style. Mostly sandwiches, soups, salads and the like. I've been there four times now and the food has been good each time. I like the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin', the Buffalo Bomber, and the V Burger. The only things so far that I didn't like were the slaw (bland, go with the chili) and the sweet-potato fries (funky smell, go for the mac & cheeze). The service is excellent. Many other places could take a page from Veggie Grill's customer service training. The ambiance is sort of retro cafe style. I wouldn't go so far as to call it healthy. It takes a lot of processing to make wheat into chickin'. But, for what it is, it's pretty good. read more

Updating because this place is so hit or miss. The last time we went the zucchini soup tasted burnt, we got a very sad portion of fries, and our roasted veggies were wilted, mushy, and brown. I bravely took a bite of broccoli and immediately spit it out because it tasted extremely sour and rancid. I alerted the manager and he offered to refund me for the veggies, but denied that the veggies were bad and just said that he was sorry I didn't like them. I feel like if you get an inedible batch of food, they should offer to either refund the whole meal or give a coupon or something. My inner hipster rebels against the fact that I'm giving a chain restaurant five stars...but that's just a sign of how good my lunch was last weekend at Veggie Grill. Despite the fact that it's a chain restaurant located in a shopping center, the food was as good as anything I'd expect from an upscale vegetarian restaurant. I also love restaurants where you can order your food at the counter and then sit down - especially when you're with friends or a big group of people, because it removes the annoying split-the-check hassle that inevitably results ("I only have a 20!" "I only have a card!" "Can we use Venmo?" "I don't have Venmo!") I digress. We split two entrees: the Bombay Bowl, and the Banh Mi Salad. The Bombay Bowl has roasted veggies, grains, kale, cannellini beans, almonds and a cilantro-green curry. It was really excellent - struck a nice balance between the freshness of the veggies and the creaminess of the coconut curry. The Banh Mi Salad was similarly excellent: lightly fried tofu, kale, pickled carrots and cabbage, jalapeños, grilled eggplant, cilantro, mint, and basil. It was very lightly dressed with a vaguely Vietnamese-inspired dressing. My friend had some ginger hibiscus iced tea, which was really refreshing and not overly sweet. Me and my lady tried this place out the other night because she gave up eating meat for Lent and, well to quote Jules from Pulp Fiction: "...because my girlfriend's a vegetarian which pretty much makes me a vegetarian." I ordered the "Crab" Cake burger. It actually did taste exactly like a crab cake, and actually really good so I was happy with it. Got a side of sweet potato fries and a Rootbeer (which was reallly good) She ordered the Crispy Chikin plate...I guess she liked it but I couldn't really get over the fake chicken, I don't know what it is w/ fake meat but I can't get used to it...it's like they overcompensate w/ herbs and it just tastes funny to me. I came here as a guest for their grand opening. They were offering free food, so what the heck, off I went! The food was awesome! I ordered the Buffalo Bomber in a wrap wrap with Mac and cheese. I asked if I could buy the kale salad and they have it to me for free! I had some kind of flavored lemonade that I forget the name off. I am sick so I was surprised to find out they do not serve hot drinks. The guy I asked for hot water gave me free tortilla soup saying it was good for colds. So much food I ate myself silly! The fake chicken was decent and the gluten free Mac and cheese was tasty. The soup I did not care for, but I am not a fan if that kind of thing in the first place. The salad was good, but I was so full I could not finish it all. I was just finishing when I was given a sample platter of their three dessert choices; chocolate chip cookie (yum!), carrot cake (sugar overload!), and chocolate pudding (eh, not a personal favorite but good if you like that kind of thing). The staff was really nice and seemed to be doing well with every single one of them there at the same time. The pace of checking on me was great minus having to ask if they pick up dishes or if there's a place I take them (no harm there; they were packed!). The marketing team that greets you are the door are nice and helpful as well as the hostess inside to answer questions and give recommendations. Overall I was happy with the place and would eat there if I was with someone who was also interested in that kind of food. Decided to try this place after our favorite Thai place was closed :( It was a pretty good experience. Kinda pricy but definitely fresh. I got the kale caesar which was plentiful. It has lots of avocado and these interesting flat croutons. My friend got the harvest bowl which was pretty filling and good, except for some of the raw veggies. Rather have them grilled more. I also like that you can try a bunch of drinks to find the one you like. I tried the ginger hibiscus but the strawberry lemonade was even better! Would def come back again. read more

My good friend is leaving for Taiwan this weekend, and we met up for a lunch date here before she embarks on many (yummy) adventures! She got the Santa Fe "chicken" sandwich with onion rings (THEY WERE SO GOOD) and I got the pick a pair with chili and kale caesar. The chili wasn't too heavy, and I loved the texture the red and white beans gave it. I also liked how it was packed with flavor, but not too salty. The soy cream was a nice touch. The kale caesar had avocado, which was a great addition. I found the tempeh bacon really interesting in both flavor and texture, but it was good! I have only dined here a couple of times, and I was impressed all times! I actually really love the food here, but the service sucks. It's great to have a ton of options for those of us who are vegan/vegetarian, and the menu is great. However, their service is at best mediocre and at worst rude. One glaring example is when I ordered a meal and specifically asked for a side of the mashed potatoes. I was given a side of fries instead, which I am unable to eat because fried foods cause heartburn. When I asked one of the staff members about it, she just shrugged and said "sorry", not offering to rectify the mistake even after I told her I wouldn't be able to eat it. Veggies!? Aww mom come on! Haha that was me for most of my life. No joke! (no good ones anyway) Well! That has changed. In general I love vegetables and I happen to really like Veggie Grill. If you're reading this though and thinking, "Dude what a chump. Who is this guy paying all that money just for vegetables."... You're in good company. For a long time I walked by this place thinking, "Who the hell would pay for this!?" Oh how I was wrong. Veggie grill has some good stuff and honestly with this new superfood non-sense and healthy organic food eating, the price isn't all that bad. More importantly it tastes pretty solid. Yum. SO... lets break it down eh?! I'm going to get right down to here. Here is my Top 5 things to get a Veggie Grill #1. All Hail Kale Who doesn't like Kale. That shizz is the bomb and the dressing that they put on this salad is awesome. Nothing more to it. Get it. Try it. I guarantee you'll love it. #2. Chili Who knew! Vegetarian chili? Sounds weird but the chili is the best side dish on the menu for SURE. A little cream cheese and some green onions on the top, along with that crispy pita something that's on the side and youre set. Yum Word to the wise: Get both of the above with the "Pick-A-Pair". THAT is a real deal and its SO worth it. $7.98? I'm there #3. Mac and Cheese SO being that the mac is made of quinoa the consistency ... is a little weird BUT not necessarily in a bad way. It has a sort of heartiness to it and I came to like it! The cheese is also tasty and there's a little crispiness to the top. All in all a solid alternative to the chili... especially if you're a little more hungry. #4 Thai Chicken Only 4 because chikin' aint chicken no matter how you serve that up. nuh uh. Nevertheless the salad itself is fresh, tasty and a little tangy. Its honestly good and the chikin isn't too bad either. (I'm just not a fan of blatant meat substitute) Bleh. #5 Sweetheart Fries Yes. The sweet potato fries.... how.... delicious they are. How can you go wrong right? All veggie place making some sweet potato fries? CLUTCH! ;) Anyway there it is. Megh I feel the food has gone downhill. I haven't had Veggie grill in a year but had a craving today. I ordered the "chicken" patty protein style. It used to have more flavor and there was just a tiny teaspoon of avocado on it. Also the Mac and cheese sauce is still yummy like I remember but ew the lemon zest on it is pretty gross. Wasn't an option for the side dish to remove it. I will still try more options I just wish the quality was as good as I remember it to be. read more

The staff here is always super friendly and does an awesome job at keeping the tables clean even when they're slammed. I love the kale caesar salad and their tasty sweet potato fries that come with a delicious spicy dipping sauce. If you're craving some healthier convenience food this is a great place to go! UPDATE Still like the food here but I've now heard a manager chewing out an employee in one of the booths about scheduling. This is incredibly unprofessional and frankly cruel to do in such a public venue. He was raising his voice to the point all the patrons could hear exactly what the conversation was about and doing nothing to remain even slightly discrete. This seriously makes me uncomfortable to dine in a place where the staff is treated so poorly by management. This just got worse, I now know exactly how much money this employee makes and that he's been threatened with being reported to regional management. As a customer I don't care if this guy is the worst employee at this location, that public shaming was completely uncalled for. I really have to question coming here anymore if this manager is working. He clearly has no respect for his employees or the customers. read more

Yummy. I love this place. My new go to healthy joint! No junk here! My son enjoyed his mac n cheese. I have to mention though, it had a slight smoky chipotle taste to it. So if your kids are really picky they might not like it. I'm surprised my son enjoyed it. I ordered the power salad. They forgot to put the almonds and avocado in mine so I asked for them to bring it on the side. The avocados looked like they put water in it, it was a little mushy and weird.....other than that the ginger um....something tea is really good. I forgot the other flavor that was in there.
