Always happy coming to Veggie House. We have gotten to go orders, but mostly dined in. Always great experiences! The food always comes out hot and fresh with large portions. Our favorite order is to get the vegan beef fried rice, soy beef and broccoli, and the vegan orange chicken (made with mushrooms). The staff is always pleasant as well! We will continue to visit Veggie House! Best vegan Chinese food in all of Chicago by far. We just wish they had some more dessert options, but we are happy regardless. A+

Thank goodness for Veggie House! I wasn't sure what vegan options would be around Chinatown Square. This is located in a cute area filled with various Boba shops, gift shops, restaurants, and herbal places. The Veggie House Dumplings had a tasty mixture of carrots, red cabbage, spinach, and beetroot skin. I was also pleased that it came with a few florets of broccoli for garnish. The dumplings sat in a sauce. I forget what is sprinkled on top, but take a look at this picture and see if you can guess. https://yelp.to/4naUahh6DC Crispy Turmeric Oyster Mushroom was yummy! Came out piping hot, perfect fried texture, and chewy mushroom. The batter was flavorful too. https://yelp.to/jTJ4UBiCYH The restaurant is spacious and clean. Service was pretty fast and I enjoyed my meal. I would likely visit this place again if ever in the Chicaco Chinatown area.

Dude. This place is amazing for vegetarians. We had a meat eater w us and he agreed it was incredible. Highly recommend. Service is fast and friendly. Parking is convenient in the lot across the street. Bathrooms are clean. Prices are reasonable. Love how they're hella on it with the water! Food's delicious and a few dishes we ordered were spicy, so we were thankful for the frequent water filling! Can't wait til my next trip out to Chicago so I can come back.

Overall: Solid vegetarian/vegan chinese food, some of the food you won't be able to tell is plant based! Great option if you have these dietary restrictions or are looking to follow a plant-based diet without compromising flavor. I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but i came here to eat with vegan family. The restaurant was clean. Service was really friendly, fast, and accomodating. Highly recommend the turmeric "chicken" appetizer and the mongolian soy beef. The salt and pepper shrimp was also great, and it tasted and felt a lot like shrimp despite being plant-based. Some of the dishes' flavors and textures won't be exactly like their animal-based counterparts, but I really enjoyed eating here as someone who eats meat. Highly recommend!

I loved every bite! I went for my birthday and got 10% off! But I wanted to try a vegan Chinese restaurant as I've not found any in Chicago. I lucked up on this place. The service was good, and the food...chefs kiss! I had the veggie fried rice, spring rolls, fried cauliflower and fried oyster mushrooms. I even tried some vegan sesame balls. It was an acquired taste but I ended up liking it. I can't wait to go back!

While I don't have dietary restrictions, I'm so glad for this spot and will gladly come back to this casual spot! There was a wide range of options, both centering veggies and centering plant-based "meat" dishes. There wasn't a dish that I didn't enjoy, but I would definitely recommend the braised mushrooms - they were a standout dish! Service was speedy and attentive. Highly recommend!

Stopped in for a quick dinner the other night and sampled the fried dumplings and the Kung Pao "chicken" stir fry. I was surprised to discover that the "chicken" was actually breaded mushroom--a creative twist that turned out to be interesting. Both dishes were delicious, and the service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance is casual - you order on an iPad at the table and then pay at the counter. I'd definitely return to explore more of the menu.

This was my first visit to Veggie House, and I was very pleased with the food! This is a vegetarian restaurant that offers vegan options. We ordered two dishes; Plant-based Orange Chicken made with king oyster mushrooms and the Singapore Noodles. Both dishes were super yummy. I could literally order the same dishes for dinner today. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Can't wait to return!

    Wonton Soup
    Mari M.

We had two dishes at veggie house. One was amazing, one was so bad we couldn't finish it. The wonton soup was very disappointing. It tasted like a mildly seasoned bland broth with frozen dumplings, not wontons. For$8 for a small bowl, it was so disappointing. The kung pao tofu on the other hand was exceptionally good!!! The veggies were crisp, the tofu was crispy and not dried out, and the sauce was sticky and rich. So overall, I would go back. I saw some other dishes at tables around me that looked good. But would be conservative and not order a ton because of the big margin of quality between the two dishes.

The portion sizes were good, and everything came out nicely presented. The service was friendly and quick, and the overall ambiance was welcoming and comfortable. Food too was nice.

Orange Plant-Based Chicken and Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower

My friends and I wanted to visit Chicago's Chinatown again and decided to hit Veggie House, an all-vegan/vegetarian Chinese restaurant! Food: tasty! But admittingly, it is not the most filling, and I am not sure if these portions could be considered "family style." - Orange "Chicken" made with King Oyster Mushrooms: (5/5) For context, I am usually a mushroom hater, but I was pleasantly surprised by this dish and would order it again. It was drenched in sauce, and I thought it was interesting how they added literal orange slices and chunks to enhance the flavor (a bit on the citrus side). It was definitely a nice touch! I wish the portions were bigger; it might be more appropriate for one person rather than sharing with a group of 4. - Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower: (5/5) Looking back, I think I would have preferred if they made it with tofu, but cauliflower is fine too! The sauce they provided was spicy and sweet/sour, and the texture was good and crisp. It also had little rice cracker (?) bits on the bottom too. Service/Ambiance: There was ample seating, and the restaurant was spacious. Maybe it was because we came on a weekday, but it was quiet, and there weren't too many customers. The workers were friendly enough but didn't check up often, but it was not a big deal at all. Maybe it's because Chicago is generally more expensive, but I did find the prices to be on the higher end, especially the strictly veggie dishes. Likewise, I was shocked that they only gave my group a small bowl of rice when most (if not all) Asian restaurants I've been to would have provided a pot of rice.

Place was amazing. Went for Thanksgiving and had never been before. All vegetarian all good and fash service.

    Braised Eggplant
    Maranda W.

This was a cute little spot in Chinatown that's a very solid option that is veggie centric. The braised eggplant was on point and had all the garlic and spice flavor for a soft textured dish. The dumplings were okay, not my favorite, I prefer meat dumplings for sure which means I would order something else the next time I come. The mayo tofu is another classic that was spot on and had just the right about of spicy level. The shitske mushroom was delicious, I've never had a dish like that before either the fried mushrooms. The salt and pepper were just right and not overpowering. The iPad ordering was also very helping to review all the options

I'm no vegetarian or vegan by any means, but I thought I had to give it a try because of those reviews. I read the description and I am a fan of the hen of the woods mushrooms, so I believed it would be good for sure and needless to say, it was great! The crazy thing is I didn't even have it fresh either. I was having so much trouble with transportation and accidentally ordered way too early. I didn't eat it until an hour and a half later when I got back to my hotel because it was getting so late. I don't think I thought it was great because I was hungry - I actually had a full meal before that. Anyway I had it cold and yeah it still blew me away, but I'm sure if I had it fresh out the kitchen it would've blown my mind and I would definitely come back again. The fries did get soggy however so nothing special about that. But they were seasoned well still!

The atmosphere was welcoming, the service excellent, and the food and coffee were delicious. We enjoyed two appetizers: The crackling shrimp was a standout. It had an amazing sauce and texture with the right amount of kick and an unusual combination of flavors -- the edible fried lemon slices added a tart touch to the savory dish. Then we tried the pan de ajo (garlic brioche) with delicate souffled eggs, whipped ricotta, chili oil and chives. The bread was nestled in its own cast iron pan. Yummy! For our mains we had the milanesa chicken and waffles -- I love chicken and waffles so was anxious to try it. It didn't disappoint. The chicken was perfectly crispy and the maple syrup surprised with a subtle spiciness. The portion was generous enough for a second meal. We also tried the crispy branzino and eggs cooked to order and flat top vegetables. It was tasty but not the hit of the meal. Since we were already doing happy hour nearby, it was the perfect restaurant within walking distance to continue the celebration. The moment I saw the menu, I was sold. Before we even arrived, I was impressed by the level of customer service. Because I had booked a larger party, the event coordinator reached out to explain the menu and introduce me to the Ambar Experience--their all-you-can-enjoy tasting menu for just $55 per person. After looking through the selections, I knew this was the right choice because honestly, everything sounded amazing. We had several last-minute cancellations, so our group ended up being much smaller than expected. Even so, the team was incredibly accommodating and gracious, which I really appreciated. The Ambar Experience absolutely lived up to the hype. Every dish we ordered was beautifully prepared, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. I'll definitely be bringing my family back so they can experience it, too. We started with the spicy feta, white bean hummus, roasted pepper spread, marinated olives with pickled vegetables, and beet tzatziki. It was a fantastic way to begin the meal. We had also been looking forward to trying the clotted cream, but it never made it to the table. We assumed it may have been unavailable since it wasn't mentioned. From the vegetable selections, we ordered the Brussels sprouts, baby carrots, crispy corn ribs, and wild mushrooms. Everything was delicious, but the baby carrots completely surprised me--they were easily my favorite vegetable of the evening. The meat, poultry, and seafood selections were where Ambar truly shined. We enjoyed the Balkan kebab, NY strip, lamb medallions, beef goulash, roasted lamb, wood-fired branzino, drunken mussels, grilled shrimp, and the beef tartare from the Chef's Signature menu. While every dish was outstanding, the clear standouts were the lamb medallions, the branzino, and the drunken mussels. They were so good that we kept ordering additional plates long after we were already full! We also added the unlimited beverage package for just $27 per person, which was an incredible value. The house Old Fashioned, white sangria, and strawberry lemonade were all excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. Unfortunately, the service put a significant damper on what was supposed to be a special evening. Throughout dinner, we constantly felt rushed. Every time our server approached the table, we felt like we had to be completely ready with our next order because if we weren't, he would immediately turn and walk away. When bringing drinks, he would place them at the edge of the table and slide them across instead of setting them in front of the person who ordered them. While that may seem like a small detail, it contributed to an overall feeling that the service lacked care and hospitality. His demeanor throughout the evening also wasn't warm or welcoming. To add to that, as our group gathered near the front of the restaurant to take a birthday photo before leaving, another server brushed past my sister, bumping into her without saying "excuse me" or acknowledging what had happened. Had the food not been as exceptional as it was, I'm not sure I would have considered returning based solely on the service we received. That said, the quality of the food easily ranks among the best I've had in Chicago, and it's the reason I'll be back. If the service matched the caliber of the kitchen, this would be an easy five-star experience. Even with the hiccups, I'm looking forward to returning because the Ambar Experience truly is one of the best dining values in the city. #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood #YelpEliteSquad
