I wanted BBH for lunch but the lineup was ridiculous at Cafe Xu Hue. We ventured two doors down to Veggiebowl where there was plenty of room. They specialize in Vietnamese vegetarian food. We dropped in on a Sunday for a late lunch (around 1:00pm). There's 8 tables (3 booths) and room for about 32 people. Service is standard (the front is run by the kids). At least our teas were refilled several times. Menu is short and sweet with only 15 items; appetizers, rice & noodles and beverages. They had a few desserts (only available on the weekends) on the counter and in the fridge che). - Hu tieu nam vang (B5) ($10.50) - tapioca noodles, broth, fried vegan ham cube, assorted tofu, enoki mushrooms, cauliflower and carrots. Never seen this offered before so had to try it. The tapioca glass noodles were enjoyable. Broth was clean, slightly peppery. Fried vegan ham cube was a solid meat replacement. Good variety of vegetables; seems like they change it up depending on availability. - Hu tieu satay (B7) ($10.50) - flat rice noodles, peanut satay sauce, shallots, fried tofu, beansprouts, mushrooms, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, basil and roasted peanuts. Didn't realize this was a dry noodle dish when we ordered it. Sauce had some good heat to it but it was thin, almost too watery. Decent but nothing spectacular. Decent vegetarian food but nothing I'm craving.

Got the vegetarian pho and it was delicious !! Broth was super flavorful included lots of veggies and some tofu and mock meat. It was very filling ! Service was also amazing and the tea served with the meal was also very good.

Unpretentious son of a gun, this place is. Don't expect to see hipsters or westsiders clad in yoga outfits here. Do expect good food for those who are vegetarians (or vegans, as many of the dishes are available dairy-free), and especially for those, who like me, generally eschew red meats, but who from time to time need to sink their teeth into something with some modicum of protein-y texture. When that urge strikes, the go-to dish is the Lemongrass Tofu. The deep-fried component can be somewhat dry, even with the fish sauce. See my picture. Otherwise, it's pretty damn good. My daughter likes the Vegetarian Curry (with brown rice). Very tasty and rich broth. My son likes the Spring Rolls. The skin has a solid crunch to it. It's no small feat to create these flavors without dipping deeply (or at all) into the animal kingdom. ----- I've dined here maybe seven times. Seating has not been a problem. You can usually find parking on Kingsway if you get here at around 6:00pm. Décor is functional. See p

Amazing vegetarian Vietnamese food without the pretentiousness of that OTHER veggie Vietnamese place. I'm almost afraid of giving this place 5 stars because consistently high ratings will eventually make this place too popular. And over-popularity can be detrimental. But, the food here was amazing. The Papaya Salad was crisp and vibrantly flavoured. It was classified as an "appetizer", but for some people, it could have served as a meal. The Vermicelli Special was done as well as any traditional Vietnamese restaurant. But, the kicker was the "tofu meat" actually tasted as good as the real thing! It tasted just like real BBQ pork sausage! I don't know how they do it, but it must be sorcery. The deep-fried spring rolls were also so good that I didn't feel like I was being penalized for eating vegetarian. Again, portion size was generous. The tofu salad rolls were okay. I'll have to admit that I much prefer prawns or pork in my salad rolls. But, for what it was, it was a nice change of pace. Overall, a terrific place to indulge in Vietnamese vegetarian food without having to fight for a seat with annoying hipsters at that OTHER, crowded, overrated Veggie place.

Taken from my IG these are the rolls!

Oh. My. God. Be still my heart, this place is bloody delicious. Service is a bit hit and miss to be honest...but the fresh flavors and generous portion make up for it. The fresh tofu rolls with peanut sauce are a must try! I ordered the satay for lunch and it was a medium heat which was perfect. It was so tasty and fresh with tons of tofu! My mom ordered the lemongrass tofu and while tasty it was on the very dry side. Portions are generous. Prices reasonable. Atmosphere is quiet despite being on Kingsway. It's a gem. I'm going back tomorrow.

Can I just tell you how much I'm in love with this place? Best vegetarian Vietnamese I've ever had in Van- it beats Chau by leaps and bounds, pricewise and flavorwise. Veggiebowl is just an undiscovered gem by most, and I guarantee if you find it, you won't be able to stay away! My favourite dish has to be their take on Bun Bo Hue. Usually it's made with beef and pig feet, but Veggiebowl's is loaded with juicy oyster mushrooms and fried tofu. The broth is the perfect amount of spicy, accompanied by a strong lemongrass aroma. Just perfection. I know I'm literally waxing on and on about it like some kind of bad poet, but it really is the shit. Don't miss it. Go there.

I'm not a vegetarian by any means, but I left super stuffed and satisfied! I have never had vegetarian pho and I'm a #phonatic Super good and filled with flavours. I believe they boil ginger and fruits to give that flavourful taste! I am def going to try to make this at home! The spring rolls was pretty impressive and still gave that feel that you would have been eating the original spring roll with the meat! Lotus salad was nice and refreshing! Betel leaf was wicked and filling! You gotta try it here!

Great restaurant! Loved the food even though I'm not an avid vegetarian. Very filling as well. It's a small place so large groups more than 8 may be hard to fit but it's good for everyone otherwise! The location is good as well and very easy to get to even by transit. The prices are average, around $10 per person and like I mentioned very filling.

    Sweet and sour soup!!!

This is hands down the best vegetarian Vietnamese food in the hood. Sure, Chau Veggie Express nearby is pretty decent, too - but if you want some really bold flavours, extremely (and consistently) fresh ingredients... Veggiebowl takes the cake. The soup flavours are so rich (e.g. Pineapple to add sweet and sourness to their sweet and sour soup - that's genius); more variety in veggies: okra, taro, lotus stem, celery, snap peas, cauliflower, etc. I've had almost everything on their menu and nothing disappoints me; not to mention it's just way more relaxed in here, despite being tucked right beside a huge construction site at the moment. If you wanna talk ca$h moneh, it's also way cheaper than Chau Veggie Express, great portioning, you're getting noticeably fresh ingredients, as well as avoiding the noisy and poor layout of Chau Veggie (especially when they get busy). If you're a fan of family-owned biz, support these guys! Also, fresh-pressed orange and grapefruit juice made to order, hell yeah. 10/10 love this place!

    Steamed Rice Wraps Special

We didn't miss the meat. For a couple of omnivores, Veggiebowl's offerings certainly satisfies our stomachs with uniquely delicious flavours and textures. This is our second visit and wanted to try a dish off their specials menu (posted nondescriptly under the register). We chose the steamed rice wraps, usually filled with minced pork, and were surprised by the taste of the veggie substitute they used. Topped with fried garlic and paired with a flavourful nuoc cham, it tasted great! Also ordered was the Satay Noodles. Packed with flavour and a spicy kick, the tofu substituted in for the uaual chicken was a winner. Nice bite to the noodles as well. Of course no Vietnamese meal is complete without spring rolls, and these did not dispppoint at all. Crispy, not oily and filled with veggie delights. If ever wanting a break from the meat, give this place a try! your meatless meal will be accompanied by wonderful service as well. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable.

This place is amazing! Food is amazingly fresh and their dishes are unique. We were simply looking for a vegetarian place to eat and veggie bowl came up so we decided to call to see if we can get a table for 6, when I called they said no seats, but I said if I'm coming now how long is the wait - they said got 6? Your coming now?, I said yes - then was told if I'm not there in 15 mins the table would be given away. I am so glad I called in advance - they had our table set up, and ready for us when arrived!. They were pact!- after we sat down the line up just grew. We saw why they are so popular, the food was amazing, fresh, unique, and tasty. Servers were friendly, our food didn't come out the fastest but still in a timely fashion for all of us. I am definitely looking forward to trying their other dishes they have to offer! Their rice bowl was really good !- worth trying!

    Vegetarian pho

I've tried so many different Pho noodles in North America, both regular beef and vegetarian. Over all, their vegetarian noodle soup is the best! The soup is with full of flavour, not too salty or too msg taste. Veggies are nicely cut, perfectly boiled. They are not too busy/noisy so you can relax and enjoy a bowl of soup. Their customer service is always excellent, very polite, servers are always smiling and nice. (Which is kind of rare in Vietnamese restaurants. I guess it's culture thing.) Inside of restaurant is well organized, very clean, even their washroom is well taken care of. Oh and their tea is my favourite! I don't know what kind of tea it is but very good!

    Veggie Bowl Veggie Pho *Recommended

If you don't need the trendy cachet of places like Do Chay, Veggie Bowl is infinitely better with deeply flavourful broths, good value, timely accurate service, and wide selection. Have not been disappointed with anything I've tried and only want to try everything.

New dish, not on menu, would highly recommend!

The space is much nicer, with high ceilings and lots of light - great looking bistro. I ended up trying the following: - Mussels: Very good. Classic dish, but I really like the use of cream in the broth. - Bánh Mì Cay Hải Phòng (Spicy Baguette Sticks): Good. A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. Only downside is that is it expensive for what you get.

Ordered Green Papaya Salad ($12), Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli with one spring roll ($17), one lime soda ($6.50) and one pop ($3). Food arrived within minutes of ordering. Portions were very generous. The salad was perfect with everything very fresh, as it should be but often isn't in some places. Plump prawns and the scent and taste of basil was prominent. Delicious! The lemongrass chicken (we ordered extra chicken) with a spring roll was also very generous. We did not finish it between the two of us. Again, all was fresh, tasty and hot. This is one of our standard orders and Pho Goodness did not disappoint. We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth. You get a generous portion of noodles, fried tofu, and vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, carrot). Unfortunately the veggies were quite overcooked -- the broccoli was almost soggy, so were the carrots and bok choy. 3/5 All in all, middle-of-the-road veggie pho. The broth is pleasant.
