I came to Velasquez mufflers and brakes for a simple oil change. I came up to the desk where one man sat at a computer, another man stood overlooking his shoulder and the female, clearly the unprofessional receptionist, who had her feet in the chair as she played games on her cell phone. Neither of the three acknowledged me for several minutes. Finally, the sole black worker looked at the useless receptionist and then back to me. He asked," May I help you?" I said Id like to get an oil change. He told me it will be a 3 hour wait. I said ok. He looked at the "receptionist and called out her name. She, only then, looked up and asked for my car keys. So here I wait, aggitated already, at being ignored, writing this review. So far, I guess customer service isnt their priority. They told everyone that came after me about the 2 to 4 hour wait. The regular oil change is $20. Is the wait and the treatment of disdain to a paying customer worth it? No. Next time I will go elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately, I decided to take my relatively new chevy Malibu to Velasquez & Sons on south Stony Island Ave near 93rd. Street in Chicago. This is a very disgusting repair shop on the inside and out. As I entered, I was unceremoniously greeted by an apathetic woman who worked behind the counter. I asked the young woman how much it would cost to have brakes put on my car. The young apathetic woman answered, "It will cost one hundred fifty dollars, and we don't accept credit or debit cards." I wasn't prepared to drive to the bank to get cash, but I bit the bullet and drove to the bank anyway to furnish Velasquez & Sons the cash they requested. After I returned with cash, I offered my keys, so the mechanic could start working on my car. Then the apathetic woman said, "Go outside and sit in your car for 2-minutes. The woman provided no logical reason why I should wait outside for the mechanic to take the keys to my car. After waiting in the car on a hot day, I decided to take a seat in the auto shop. Although, there were two customers and three empty chairs, the woman refused to allow me to sit inside the shop. I begged the woman to come up with a logical explanation as to why I wasn't allowed to sit in the shop, but she repeatedly said, "Those chairs are for hypothetical customers who haven't come in yet. What if one of those customers comes in and finds you sitting in a chair? Then what? I thought for a minute. This must be the Twighlight Zone. My three takeaways from all this: 1. Velasquez & Sons on 93rd. street does not appreciate your business and lets you know it with gestures, facial expressions, and body language. 2. They think you're stupid. 3. Although Velasquez & Sons is located in the heart of a ghetto, they charge about 25% more than everyone else who performs the same service. Finally, I said," Hasta la vista baby", and took my business to someone who valued me as a customer. read more

This is the second time I tried this ace, and i'm leaving with more problems than I came in with AGAIN. First time went for front end work, left with fuses blowing for my headlights. Second time I gave them another shot and got my catalytic converter done, made it a mile away and my car start stopping on me. They made me get my own tow and was saying, "Yeah, it's probably that problem we told you about." NEVER is a place supposed to let you go without telling you what could happen or not helping with it less than 30 min after you leave. Came in with running truck, left with one that won't even shift gears. Calling parent company right now. Days later: Turns out they never correctly fixed the problem I paid them for. I would not recommend. also, My boyfriend dropped his car off for a break job.. instead of a call saying " you car is ready" he received a call informing him his car was TOTALED on a test drive. FINALLY!! An auto repair location with great service, fair prices and no liar or cheats! I went to Midas on Clybourn near North Ave for an oil change &had them check my Nissan since I mentioned a problem. This guy tells me I need a new battery, new this and that for a grand total of $1,100+!!! I took the written estimate and went to Velasquez the next day, asked them to check the items on my Midas estimate. Turns out only ONE item was needed, not even my battery needed replacement. I got the work done for less than $300. They are now my go to place. I will be at Velasquez for my brakes and suspension this week. Tip: Get there early, there parking lot is smallish and it is first come, first serve. read more

I've had a good experience w/ Velasquez, they fixed my exhaust leak & pipe that gave my car that annoying sound & at a good price! It's convenient too, literally right around the corner from me. It depends on what mechanic is there as well. read more

Took my car there to get among other things bearings replaced. The first time I went everything was fine. Then I took it back for more work and got my car returned with a sound that was not there. Was told the bearings were bad but when car returned still the same sound. Just took it to another shop and found out they broke the hub. Would have been nice if you would have admitted to what you did and corrected your mistake. Beware of using this place. read more

This is the worst auto shop to take your care to, they do half work if any job on your car, I had a catalytic converter put on my car cause I was getting the engine light on, they told me I would need a tune up also, so they so called suppose to have gave me a tune up, it has'nt been six months yet and a friend of mine check my oil and it was black as tar, and my car is back firing when I take off, and it drags, this auto is ran by mexicans and of course they know how to do quick jobs and know how to cut corners just to get their money and get you out their shop to get to another customer to do a half job, I would'nt recommend this shop to anyone, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS SHOP, they keep you coming back cause they never did the job right in the first place read more

Do Not Ever Go to this place. They are a total rip off and liars. They won't admit fault but trying to cover they ass by saying I need more work which is a lie. Today I went to the tire shop to have my tires rotated. The tire shop told me that my front right tire rod has a loose lug that looks as though the lug was simply put on there but not tighten. They informed me to take it back to whom ever fixed it in the first place. I went back to Velasquez to tell them that the front right tire lug needs to be tighten. The girl at the front says okay we will look at it. After almost an hour of waiting one of the workers from the back comes up front and I can hear them whispering about my situation. Then the girl from the front desk gonna say did we tell you last time you needed more work. I said no. The only issue is the front right tire. Can you tighten up the lug? Her and the guy from the back kept stating that there is nothing wrong with the lug and that it's another issue. And she pulls out a list of things with prices. Bitch bye. I told them to give me my keys and I will go elsewhere. They are dirty liars and I will never darken their door step ever again. Lying dogs. They are so wrong. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB. I went to this place to have work done on my car that had not been driven in 3yrs. I told them to check it out & see what needed to be done to drive it. They did a lousy repair job, charged me almost 2k, & ignored my request to recheck it. After the "repairs" were done, a tire went flat, had to buy a new one, signal lights went out, leaking coolant, the fuses weren't checked, etc. Please stay away from this place! I have had brakes, caliper, rear rotors, brake pads, flex-joint pipe, oil changes over the last 2-3 years. If you get there early they seem to be fast as long as they have the parts on hand. So far, they only fix was needs to be fixed. Quotes are more than fair. Seating it a challenge-about 8 chairs. read more

NEVER take your car to this location. I got my car checked out for a loud noise. I first took it to my dad to get his opinion and he explained that my center pipe had rotted off my muffler and I just needed a connecter. He sent me here. I get there, the receptionist told me 20 minutes for my estimate I waited almost an hour. Someone looks at my car then she calls me to the front desk and tells me I need a new muffler and pipe. I ask the price she says "ummmm 200" so the dude sitting there with her does a little snicker. I explain that I was already told I didn't need a new muffler and I just wanted the pipe. I ask again, how much for just the pipe and she says $200. She's obviously saying shit off the top of her head because once something is eliminated the price usually goes down. They start speaking Spanish and laugh together. So at this point they're being RUDE AND SHADY! Anyway, I left and went to Mufflers For Less on like 98th and Western, I never told them my issue with Velasquez and they told me the same thing my dad did! My muffler was perfectly fine and all I needed was a connecter pipe that they made (costed me $60) and my car is back to normal and I passed my emissions. Moral of the story, Velasquez is a dishonest, greedy, RIP OFF establishment! Take your vehicle ELSEWHERE unless you have money to waste. If so, don't swipe your credit card because they're so greedy and shady I don't know what they'll do. Better safe than sorry. read more
