First let me start with a calibration of I have moved many times in my life including a family of 5 to Europe for a work relocation. So to say I understand the process would be an understatement. The reason I am giving Velocity 2 stars is due to poor customer service. It is unfortunate as the work crews on both ends were very nice and component---the issues are with the main office: 1) They quoted one price, and within 2 hours we were informed the rate went up $500 on the same proposal unless I wanted to wait another week for pick-up. Office staff later said "this is like airline pricing if you don't lock things in immediately"??? 2) We paid extra to have goods picked up by the 30th to ensure they would arrive in California on time to start new job, and when trying to confirm delivery on the other end we were given misinformation and the run-around 3) when speaking with the office trying to lock down when goods would arrive, I let him know that I chose Velocity due to reviews I had read on Yelp. He rudely responded in a threatening manner that "we have lawyers". Really? Is that customer service? The circus actually continued to the very end. Fortunately we got a call from the delivery driver on Wednesday saying our goods would be delivered on Friday morning (which worked out fine). Ironically, Velocity phoned us Friday morning (the delivery day) and said "goods will be delivered in a few days." Since they didn't even know goods were being delivered that day, I can only surmise that Velocity put no effort into knowing the facts on behalf of the customer. This is 2017 between email and phones, it's not hard to track and find out truly where goods are!! Maybe they are OK for same day / local moves where no coordination of storage / out-of-state transportation is required, but I would never use them again. read more

They were the worst movers ever. They took one piece "garbage can, chair, etc." at a time to the truck. Wrap & box pieces I've already had canvas big bags to charge me box & packaging fees to lengthen time. The items that needs to wrap wasn't wrap "chest, sofa, etc.". Most of my dishes were broken, too. So it got dirty or damaged. They made me signed a paper to say plywood furniture is not cover under insurance. They refused to dissemble it my IKEA Wall units. They took out the shelves so there's not support inside the closets. When it arrived to my new apartment it was a complete piece of garbage. They took so long to move, the next building said it was too late to move in. I need to pay them storage fee and another day of minimum moving. Also now I had no place to sleep, too. The moving came out double my budget. I wouldn't move with them again ever if they pay me! Total Damage was over $2500 on top of double moving budget. read more

Yesterday was the second time I've used Velocity for a large scale, full-service pack and un-pack move, and they are really a fantastic company. I worked with a team of eight people yesterday, lead by Scott. Everyone was really hard-working, detail oriented, and amiable, even under the high-pressure circumstances of completing the move in one day. Everyone stuck it out until the end (which was many hours of work!) and the outcome was impeccable, down to the last detail. When they left, everything was in place and my clients were able to come back to a new house that already looked like their home. I really wanted to rate them 2.5 stars. What they lacked in punctuality, they made up for in a surprisingly expedited move. Using these guys for my move was kind of an ordeal at first but the final result was thorough. After calling one of their sales associates to set up a very last minute and unexpected move, they were extremely helpful and accommodating. They said it would be no problem to move me in two weeks. Phew. So then comes the breakdown in communication. About 2 days before my move I received a call from a different rep confirming a pick up between 12-2pm. The original pick up time was between 9-10am. It was not a problem, only off by a few hours and I'd have everything all ready for them. So the morning of the move I called just to check in and they said it was now going to be between 2-3pm. I started to get a little worried. Apparently a previous appointment hadn't packed any of her belongings, so, they stayed to help her pack, thus pushing my appointment all the way to the latest possible time. I called again and they connected me to the driver who explained the problem. If a customer doesn't have anything packed and ready, their company policy should be to decline service and return their deposit. Then proceed to the next customer in line, impatiently waiting 9 hours for the movers to arrive. The movers arrived. The head of the moving crew was a nice guy. He understood my problem and apologized profusely. They arrived by 6pm and were out by 6:50pm. They even got to my new apt faster than I did and quickly moved everything in undamaged. read more

I was told their timeline of 3-21 days is effective not from the time they pack my stuff. I told them my apt would be ready from 10 days they pick up my stuff. So these guys started moving my stuff only after 10 days (CT to CA). And I end up waiting for 7 more days than originally expected. I informed them about my readiness in good faith but they did not reciprocate the same! The owner Oliver explained his policy and was adamant when the policies in 1st place are his company friendly and customer friendly. I'll stay away from them definitely! read more

I wanted to write this review in the spring, as that is when most people move. I cannot stress enough to NOT use this company. They are thieves and there is no way the glowing reviews are legitimate. They overcharged me (e.g. extra boxes and additional travel time) and charged my card additional amounts, without authorization. And because I stored my things in their warehouse, they tried to intimidate me into paying them $200 more before they would turn my belongings over. I had to call the police, TWICE. One of their former movers told me I was not the only person to experience this, that it is a common practice. read more

They provided moving supplies, showed up right on time, took care with all my boxes and furniture, and didn't complain once. I moved from Bronx NY to the state of Washington and had a 3 man crew help out with my move. They were professional, funny and reliable. I felt confident that my furniture would make it intact and it did. It arrive about 2 weeks later; which is expected given the distance- and everything was the same as when it left the Bronx. Booked a NYC to Seattle move with international van lines that was subcontracted to Velocity. On moving day we were up charged $3000 despite having a thorough estimate from international van lines. Initially our moving consultant told us our belongings should arrive close to our first available date given that we were giving them over a month for transit. When our first available delivery date came we called and were told they had no timeframe for delivery. Ultimately our stuff arrived close to the end of our 21 day window. In fact we found out it hadn't left New York until well over a month after it was packed. Where was it all this time? We were told storage was not required for our move. The delivery company insisted on coming on a Saturday despite the fact that we informed them many times we had a wedding to attend (our only out of town obligation this month). My wife was forced to miss the wedding to accept delivery. They were unable to work with us on this and then charged us another $850 for a shuttle. Ultimately when our stuff arrived over 20 boxes were missing as was a mattress, portions of our bed frame, and our peloton bike. This is a huge fraction of our items! How do these go missing? We still have nothing to sit on and no bed to sleep on. Because things were delivered on a Saturday they told us there was nothing we can do but wait till Monday to call. They also insisted on full payment in all cash. So now we've payed almost double our initial estimate for delivery of roughly half our belongings close to 3 weeks after we expected. My only hope is that we can recoup the cost of these items plus damages. I will be contacting a lawyer. Do not use this company. read more

Nothing short of a nightmare. Zero stars! 1. Despite having my printed contract on hand which outlined boxes and tape were included, they showed up without boxes or tape and said I should provide it. I showed them my contract and was told that the contract didn't apply to the move (!!!!!). I did not relent and finally one of the guys goes to the truck and brings up, literally pieces of cardboard to use for the move. It was raining and they literally patched pieces of cardboard like a puzzle around my television. 2. When they were taking my armoir out (which i gave them dimensions for and forewarned was my largest piece), one guy says "It's too heavy!" let's it go, and I watch it fly down a flight of stairs. They then claimed that that damage to the armoir had nothing to do with them. The armoir was badly dented from each hit to the stairs, and the top half was no longer aligned with the bottom half. 3. Every single item they moved was damaged to complete lack of care or lack of proper protection. 4. They either ignored me or lied to me the entire time they were packing, so I called a buddy who lived nearby who used to be a mover. He shows up and asked what their procedures for moving are, and one of the movers starts getting defensive and PROCEEDED TO TAKE HIS JACKET OFF TO FIGHT MY FRIEND IN MY HOME! 5. I make a call to their office to complain and I am told that it's all my fault, that I am threatening their staff (I am female, 5'6" and 120lbs and live alone), and that they were going to lock my stuff in their truck and I'd never see my stuff again. When I tell you everything was damaged, I mean everything (my bed, armoir, dresser, couch, you name it)! They treated me like sh*t, were complete liars, and behaved like thugs. I had a great experience with Velocity Movers. Communication with the company was clear and available - they contacted me several times to make sure everything was clear for the move. The 3 movers who came to load up my things were professional, courteous, and efficient. Even though they said that it could take between 1 and 2 weeks for the furniture to arrive at my new home a few states away, I was pleasantly surprised when they called me after 3 days to say they would be there the following day. The movers kept excellent communication with me to let me know when my things would arrive. Then unloaded the truck quickly and skillfully, and were transparent and helpful with documenting and billing. read more

I would be able to review them better if they had actually shown up to our appointment to move. We had a time slot set up weeks in advance but when when we were supposed to move they didn't show up! Every time we called we were told something different (when they actually answered the phone) and the time of the move kept getting pushed back. After 7 hours of the back and forth we had to cancel them as movers. Not only that but they didn't care that we didn't have movers or needed to cancel with them. The sales staff was very convincing but DO NOT LISTEN. All the positive reviews online led us to chose them but far and away the worst customer service. If you really want a good moving company use TLC Moving Company who could not have been nicer when they saved us from Velocity. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE IN PIANOS IN 50 YEARS!!! In all my years of being in the piano business, the worst experience I had was with this company, DON'T GO NEAR THEM!!! Because of a little light rain, they arrived 4 HOURS LATE to a job and totally messed up 3 people's schedules. 2 of those hours we were left hanging without as much as a PHONE CALL to inform us as to whether they would arrive *or* not. Then 3 guys get there, and presently announce that the PIANO WAS TOO HEAVY and that they would have to come back another time with more men.! Unbelievable! I told them expressly that the piano was a C3 6 foot Yamaha and the boss told me that he thought it was an upright! He couldn't remember the type of piano that is the most common in the world! Then they informed me that the next day they would come but would have to "update me on ETA". I got the there of there FAST, I'm only glad that they didn't TOUCH my fine new instrument, the original piano owner said that even when the men were there (3 is easily enough to move a 6'), they were asking how they were going to get the piano out of the room, not seeming to know that the legs would need to be taken off!! On September 5th 2014 I received a call from Velocity Moving and Storage (from here referred to as Velocity). Stacy took my inventory of 2 dressers, 2 night stands, 1 queen bed, a small bookshelf, a 43" plasma tv, and 20 boxes and gave me a quote of $432 for everything. I asked how hard of a number was the 20 boxes? His reply was its flexible just don't say 20 and have 120. Understood and very reasonable.The check was mailed to them for the $432 and my date was set for 10/2/2014 between 9am-10am. The morning of the move i get a call from one of the movers saying they would be there at 10. 10am arrives and the phone rings, and the door bell buzzes. I answer and go to the door the mover comes in and takes inventory. I tell him to ignore the futon, kitchen table and chairs, desk, he shows me a list that showed me only moving 20 boxes and a bed and for the additional items missing on his list would be a charge BUT because he was only expecting 20 boxes and a bed, he had items on the truck for a delivery also scheduled today in Brooklyn. He called Velocity to get it straightened out and see if they wanted to send another truck or for him to come back later. The driver said to give him 10 minutes and he would be back. 10 Minutes goes by and nothing. The driver has left with out telling me whats going to happen. I call Velocity to speak with Stacy. I Inform Stacy of the situation and he says that's not what should be happening let me get you to the manager. The dispatch manager Oliver is now on the phone going over my inventory, never mind the fact your driver/delivery crew left. I give him the list above and he says he shows a list of "20 boxes and a bed and night stand for $432". He could send his driver back between 2pm and 4pm but "all they would take is 18 boxes and a bed and night stand." Where did the other two boxes go from the previous sentence? I asked for his email so i could send him the list i have that includes my items with a total of 31 boxes. he says "do you think I'm an idiot? I'm reading you the invoice for what we quoted you. we've been doing this for years so its no way we would quote you for all of those items at that price." I remind him that I'm speaking to a business and not on his personal cell phone so to keep it professional. He starts yelling saying not to tell him how to do his job. At this time i ask for the manager he says that no one else was available to speak to me and hung up the phone. I call back ask for the owner. The person who answered said he was gone but should be back in 20 mins. He took my number. No one called back. After dealing with this and the frustration that came with it. My mom offered to handle communicating with the movers on my behalf to speak to someone and find out what's the status of the movers and when they would return to move my things. She also spoke with Oliver and he informed her that if I wanted all of my things moved they needed me to pay them in cash AN ADDITIONAL $110 per hour with 2 additional hours estimated. She brings up the quote and the items on it he says it wasn't what he had and they would do it when I provided the extra cash and to call back when we were ready to schedule the move. On Sunday 10/5, at 10am I get a phone call from a guy who says he's with "the moving company" but didn't give the company name or his said that he was on his way to move my things. I didn't reschedule and no one confirmed that date with me. Velocity did not move my furniture even after being paid $432 prior to the move for the binding quote. They requested more money to do the job completely or to move one bed and 18 boxes for what was already paid. read more

My wife and I had a TERRIBLE experience with Velocity when we hired them to move our belongings from NYC to Miami while I was deployed to Iraq (I still am). An appraiser came to our apartment, took an inventory and gave my wife a low-ball "binding quote." Then, after the movers packed all our things, they pressured my wife into signing a complete liability waiver and an invoice for an amount nearly double the "binding quote." It was a battle with the manager, "Oliver," to get the rate reduced to the "binding" original quote. They then told my wife they would be able to deliver everything on one week's notice, but when my wife called in mid-July to request an August 1 delivery, they told her they couldn't deliver until the second week of August (3 weeks later). When the second week of August rolled around, my wife called and was told they now couldn't deliver for ANOTHER week. I returned to the US for two weeks of R&R on the 7th and was greeted by an empty apartment. Nothing like coming home after six months in a warzone to sleep on an air mattress in a room with no curtains. I called and spoke to "Oliver," who was very rude and nonresponsive until I explained that I am an attorney on the civilian side and it costs me nothing to file a lawsuit. Our things were delivered on the 15th, after we'd paid for half a month's rent on an empty apartment. The movers were sloppy and almost every piece of furniture was broken or badly scratched. They also damaged the hallway ceiling. When the boxes were first packed, each was given a number and a brief description on a bill of lading. Upon delivery, the movers checked off each box as they delivered it. One box was missing though. It was described as "MED." At the time, we couldn't figure out what "MED" meant. The movers assured us that, whatever it was, the box must still be in Velocity's NYC warehouse and would be delivered on their next run to Miami. I spent the last few days of R&R unpacking. A few weeks later (when I was back in Iraq), we realized that I was missing my collection of ~500 hard-to-find, mostly import CDs worth roughly $7000 (so "MED" was apparently short for "media"). Funny how, out of all the boxes that could have gone missing, the one box they can't find is the one worth the most, pound-for-pound. Coincidence? Oliver, if you're reading this: my music collection had better magically turn up in your warehouse, or I'll absolutely be filing a lawsuit when I am back in the US! I used Velocity Moving to haul my stuff from the UES to East Harlem. I was impressed. Pre-move: From the time I saw a Velocity truck in the neighborhood to confirming the date to move was less than 25 minutes. Read all the contract details. Since they're I'm guessing a smaller moving company, there are many things that which you may be charged that you may not be for a larger company (i.e. Fee for credit card use). It wasn't a flat rate contract. Moving day: The head mover called ahead to confirm they would be arriving 5 minutes earlier than expected (okay with me!). I paid for 3 movers for 3 hours of labor and had everything ready to go. They consolidated everything and moved very quickly and carefully. They "gift-wrapped" everything they thought would break or get damaged - even the 3 seater couch. Yes, I did pay extra for renting some boxes for consolidation, but my stuff would have definitely spilled out from my "wonderful" packing. Cheesy as it sounds - the team worked well together. Not once did I feel like they were trying to do things slowly to charge me another hour. My studio was packed, moved and bed reassembled in about 3 hours. My main concern was about moving my big 3 seater couch. It has given movers problems every time with getting it through a standard door, and the elevator in my new apt was about the same size of the couch. If they couldn't move it into my new apt, I would have to buy another one (holds breath). The Velocity team managed to move it - even having to be innovative about adjusting a wall lamp in the new apt doorway for the process. $350 saved. I gave them a nice tip. I would definitely use them again of needed. read more

I did a long-distance move from New York to Miami. This experience turned into a money pit. They charge you for absolutely everything. How can you charge the same price for a plastic toy basketball hoop as a queen size bed? This doesn't make sense. I spoke to Maria about picking up a toddler bed, if Velocity had good customer service - the representative should have asked "Do you also have other toys to accompany that?" Instead, she took the order and the day of the move in they charged us an absurd amount of money for extra items. Not all moving companies charge per item, rather they charge per room because it can become pretty pricey charging per item. The day of shipment, Velocity brought a tractor size moving van to my residence which was too large for the residential streets. We then had to pay an additional $250 to have a UHUAL shuttle van deliver the items. Why not do research or verify with us before choosing such a large truck to make deliveries? Velocity needs to communicate better about how they charge and explain clearly to customers what needs to be included in an inventory, because when you're moving the last thing you want is to dish out so much money! read more

The sales person estimated that my move would take 3 hours and cost $325. The movers showed up 45 minutes late and said that based on the stuff listed in the contract (what I had told the salesperson I had), there was no way they could do the move in 3 hours. It ended up taking 6.5 hours and costing $715. It appears the sales person gave me a defective quote to induce me to use their company. Several times all three movers would just be gone from the apartment for 15 minutes, supposedly packing the truck. We would have done the move faster and at a fraction of the price with our own truck and a couple of guys off the street. The salesperson also promised me plastic sheeting for mattress and box spring. When those items arrived at my new place totally soiled, the movers shrugged their shoulders and said they didn't have any plastic. They also stained my couch by grabbing it with dirty hands. No apologies were offered. I called customer service, they offered me $100 off. I said that wasn't enough, that I needed to speak to a manager. Nobody called me back. The second time I called the customer service representative hung up on me. I decided to let me credit card company deal with it. Velocity moving is not a professional moving company. APALLING HIDEOUS MOVING COMPANY. Why oh why did I not read the reviews below before enlisting velocity to do my move. They were a nightmare. Stacy in sales and the dispatcher are liars and I hope they go out of business. After arriving 1 hour late, a miscommunication when Stacy said the move was set for 8am but according to them that never happened and was always 9. - 10. 3 men were supposed to come , only 2 arrived they thought the 3rd was sleeping somewhere. Then a fourth turned up and I had to pay his cab fare. Even the mover himself said velocity moving sucks. The only upside was that the movers themselves were quick and efficient. Have now used these guys on two moves within Brooklyn. Both times, I simply went on their site, filled out the form and requested an estimate. Very simple process. The form is fairly detailed about what exactly has to be moved, and seems to be effective in eliminating confusion and disputes. They were able to schedule me with only a few days advance notice both times. They stuck to the cost estimate and schedule both times. There were no additional costs, other than a small charge for supplies (boxes) packing some stuff that we hadn't had a chance to pack. They move fast, really bust it out, no malingering or delays. No damage, no issues. I got no impression that they were trying to hustle or charge me extras in any way. The movers actually seemed fairly eager to please (by NY standards), no doubt hoping for a decent tip, which they deserved and I gave them. We didn't have an especially difficult or complicated move, but I've now used them twice and wouldn't hesitate them to recommend them for a very price competitive and expedited move. read more

We used Velocity for our move last week and we were so pleased with they work and their level of professionalism. First they called us for an inventory list of everything we have in the apartment that doesn't fit in a box, in order for them to plan accordingly, and estimate how many boxes we need. They told us not to worry about getting any boxes, and they dropped off boxes, packing paper and tape a week before the move so we could start packing. We scheduled them to come between 8 - 10AM and asked them call us before they arrive to give us the heads up. They called us on the morning of the move and arrived 30 minutes after the call. Three guys showed up (Carlos, Stefan and Pier) to move our 1BR apartment. They packed and wrapped everything thoroughly and carefully with blankets and tape. They dismantled our bed and dining table and wrapped the pieces very carefully, and took great care of our LCD TV and big standing mirror. We were so impressed with how fast they worked, considering this was a walk up, four floors. We kept asking if they need any help and they told us to sit back and not to worry about a thing. We met them at the new apartment where they reassembled our furniture (to a better state then it was before, actually). We started unpacking while they were bringing the boxes from the truck, so we ended up with lots of empty boxes, and they cleared whatever was already empty for us. Overall they made this whole experience so easy and smooth. They were efficient, punctual, careful, polite, and very very nice. I would highly recommend them to any of my friends. I hope we don't have to move again soon, but if we do, we know who to call! read more

I had a great move and storage experience with Velocity. Moved Saturday, stored all of my stuff, and delivered on Monday with no complaints about the 6th and 4th floor walk ups. They arrived on time and were very flexible about pushing back the time. I also really appreciate that they called before to confirm and let me know both days exactly when they would arrive in the 2 hour window I had booked. All on my boxes and furniture came through in perfect condition. I highly recommend for a stress free experience! read more
