I would like to commend Deviny Ho, the operations director, on how she handled a situation..... I witnessed a child that was finished with his session and waiting for his mother to pick him up. He was a quite restless. He played with equipment in an unsupervised area. When asked to wait at the lobby, he brought a heavy medicine ball to toss in the lobby. When asked to put it away, he played with merchandise in the front. Deviny kept her cool the entire time, speaking to him in a friendly manner, suggesting things for him to do in the lobby, while he complained how bored he was waiting for his ride. Note to parents: if you know your child can be a handful, please make it an effort to be there early, waiting for your child to finish. This is a business... a sports training facility, not a day care center! The busy staff does not have time to supervise on a 1on 1 basis. read more

Terrible business practices! My close friends booked this space well in advance for their ten-year old son's birthday party. They put down a security deposit and sent out invitations. Out of the blue, Velocity Sports decided to cancel their booking in favor of another event that came up after the birthday party was already scheduled. What kind of people do that?!? Needless to say, their greedy behavior has resulted in a very disappointed ten year old boy. Don't trust these people for your events! read more

Misao, worked out the kinks in my shoulders using the Graston technique. She really knows what she's doing as I've been to another place which did not have nearly as good a result as I did here at Velocity with Misao. I'm a return client as Misao worked on me a while back a day before I participated in a Crossfit competition in which mecand my partner placed second, I'm not sure if We would've placed at all if I hadn't visited Velocity and Misao hadn't resolved my shoulder issues. This place has a lot to offer. I brought my 5 yr old here for soccer camp in association with SoccerTotsLA.com. This is a very large facitlity with high ceiling. This is important as small dank gyms would stink from all the sweat. A group of toddlers may not get smelly when they get sweaty, but this facility is also used by rather large adults. Further they have lots of large doors which provide lots of circulation. Anyway back to Soccer Tots. I highly recommend the program to any parent looking to introduce their child to soccer. They teach a lot of fundamentals with age appropriate games. This included ball control and a little ball handling. Hubby is coaching our daughter's AYSO team this season and will be using these drills and exercises to help the girls have fun and learn to play. read more

I was tired of the same 'ol generic gym workout...some stairmaster, lift some weights, bail out early because gym was packed. Occasionally try some class that was extremely repetitive and too packed to be effective. Velocity is a totally different experience where you get full body conditioning through a variety of different exercises. I've been doing the morning adult fitness classes for about 5 months and am definitely in best shape I've ever been. Class size is perfect so you basically get personally customized workouts. I haven't gotten bored with the classes because they're a little different each time. The facilities and equipment are great as well. On the walls are pictures of the various athletes including some very famous football players who've trained at Velocity. This reinforces that you're getting top-notch advice/training from the coaches that work there. If you're tired of the same 'ol workouts and have trouble motivating to get in shape...this is the perfect place for a change. read more

This place is SICK! I had never stuck with a workout program for more than a few weeks before deciding to train at Velocity in Redondo Beach. I just got bored with the same old gym scene -- having to wait for equipment, not having any room to do circuit training, etc. But I've been working out at Velocity for almost three years now, and I can honestly say I haven't gotten bored once. Not only is there great variety in the training from one day to the next, but the coaches who train you are the best in the business. So they know just what to target in each athlete in order to maximize results and help you reach your goals. I've gotten stronger, faster, and much more confident in my own abilities thanks to the stuff these coaches have taught me. The other awesome thing about working out here is the camaraderie you develop with all the other athletes. It really helps to keep you motivated when you have other people working toward common goals and pushing you to do more. A lot of us have ended up doing road trips together for mud runs and lifting competitions. And I would have never even considered doing any of that stuff had I not trained at Velocity with such cool people. If you want to avoid the boredom or over-crowding of a gym, maximize the variety of your workouts, and see solid results in a short period of time, then Velocity is the place to be. I've been a member at other South Bay gyms so I can compare the experiences & facilities offered. At Velocity, you get semi-private sessions with experienced trainers for an unbeatable cost. The staff & trainers are all very personable and know most people on a first name basis. Some trainers at other area gyms charge $120+ an hour. Just had my first cryochamber session in Velocity Sports Performance. I have gotten recently into intense working out and been feeling beat up. I heard from a friend that cryo is a good way to help with recovery and muscle soreness and decided to try it. Awesome experience!!! They explain to you everything in details so you feel safe and ready to go. Extra bonus - choose any song you like to help you through 3 blissful minutes of cold therapy. After you feel your blood flowing and xtra refreshed, muscle tension is starting to go away. There are so much more therapeutic services you can use: localized cold treatment, massager that works through your soreness and inflating boots that help flush the lactic acid. The gym is nice and recently redone. Trainers are adequately trained and seem to know what they are doing. My 9 year old son wanted to do the program, so I signed up for 3 months (it's discounted from the monthly rate) but still over $600. After 2 weeks my son started complaining he didn't want to go anymore and said that other kids made fun of him because he couldn't do pull ups. I continued to make him go for 2 weeks and then had him go to the spring break camp. He was fighting me the whole time. I finally gave up and called the gym to explain the situation. I asked if I could get a partial refund or transfer the membership to my other son. They said they would call me back but needed some time. A week went by and no one returned my call. I again called and spoke with two different people, they said I could probably have my other son come but they wanted my 9 year old to try again. I brought the 9 year old back, he did one session, the trainer apologized for the other kids and said he would watch them more closely. Unfortunately I could not convince my son to continue, he was crying and refused to go when other kids are there. I again spoke with the center and they now say I can't transfer the membership and no refunds. Long story short, don't sign up for the programs more than a month because your kid will likely want to quit after 2 weeks and you will have lost out on several hundred dollars. Plus you are setup on auto renew and if you don't change the status before the next cycle you will be charged for another 3 months. I found them to have a hard sale approach and then they are inflexible when the service doesn't work for you. Although I find the gym nice, I wouldn't recommend because the service was disappointing and the no-refund when you are unable to continue the membership is not a fair practice in my opinion. read more

My son did a one week football camp last summer. Paid 200 and they pretty much spent 1/3 of the time playing flag football. The rest of the time was spent on wide receiver drills. I felt it was a waste of money. A week later I found another place that had amazing customer service, where the coaches come out personally to meet you, and coffee for parents in the waiting room...and the cost of camp was at least 30 bucks cheaper. @Velocity I didn't know who was who, coaches switched midway some days. I may have been just a one week customer, and my first impression might be off the mark, but I don't think a chance for a second impression is anywhere in the future. read more

2013 Update: I'm dropping two stars from my earlier review. The place is still good and the coaches are great but they discontinued the evening boot camp class and replaced it with Cross Fit. That change came with a 30% increase in class fees and IMHO the Cross Fit classes aren't keeping me as fit as I was in Boot Camp. It's time for me to find another club. Cross Fit is great if you want to do Olympic-style weight lifting and a lot of pull ups and like having down time between each activity. Boot Camp was a great combo of strength and endurance training with no down time -- it was constant activity for 60 minutes and while we used weights frequently the class was not focused on heavy weight lifting. I guess it all depends what you are looking for. I'm not the only one who missing the previous style of class. The 9am women's fitness class was also converted to Cross Fit and after a couple of months the women threatened to leave en masse for another club. Velocity managers listened to them, and re-instituted the previous boot camp-style workouts for them. I notice most of the reviews here were written before Cross Fit started at Velocity in early 2013. Previous review from Sept. 2011: I've been going to Velocity for about a year for their evening adult boot camp. This is a great workout at an excellent facility. Velocity has a weight room but it also has a 30-yard "football" field and a track, all indoors. The hour-long workouts incorporate weight lifting, every kind of fitness exercise and a LOT of cardio. Boot camp meets two nights per week for 8 weeks. It costs less than what I used to pay a personal trainer, and the workout and experience has been far better. Class size is good. We start each 8-week session with about 20 people but only the truly dedicated continue to show up for each class. Ages range from 20's to 50's. Class instructor Jonathan is fantastic--he'll push you to achieve a fitness level you didn't think was possible. Velocity runs a lot of youth fitness programs too. Some boot campers train while their kids are in other classes. read more

I have never been in a more professional motocycle business than Velosity Sports. Paul knew his inventory, and was very professional. Has a great personality. You had better keep him or the competition will get him. Kent also did a good job with my paperwork. I came two hours away to buy my Can Am, and Paul found the bike I wanted. The dealership in Myrtle Beach is a disater compared to Velosity Sports. If the owner of Velositry Sports were smart they would buy the dealership in Myrtle Beach, and make Millions. Good facility, good instructors...if you want to take your game....whatever that might be to another level...this is the place. This isn't your typical cross-fit outfit...most of the people, if not all, have degrees in Kinesiology, etc and more than likely were athletes themselves. I did find out about this place in May when I volunteered at Tour De Pier 2017 in Manhattan Beach where Velocity Sports Performance had a booth. I signed up for one of their promotions, unlimited Cyrotherapy for one month. Love this place. It's a state-of-the art fitness environment - modern, cool, spacious, clean and the team is very nice. I can only recommend it!! Cyrotherapy is also something I really enjoy as it makes me feel great. My overall well-being has significantly improved since I am doing this form of energizing my body. read more

I have spent the last 2 months in the new women's fitness class at Velocity. It is fantastic! Every class is different so you never get bored doing the same things over and over again. Each instructor is excellent. They help you with your form and really push you to achieve whatever goal you have set for yourself. Velocity Sports Performance has helped change my life for the better. They have great instructors and great workouts...which are different every day. You never get bored as the instructors change daily along with the routines. They will also setup workouts if you are training for a certain event. Also, the majority of our group signed up for the June Camp Pendleton Mud Run...therefore our trainers are giving us workouts to prepare for that race. I lost 19 lbs in my first two months of working out there and overall have more energy during the day. I am part of the 6am workout group, so I am home by 7:15am ready to tackle the day. 2010 was my best career year yet as I received Salesperson of the Year for a company that has 23,000 employees worldwide. Velocity is AMAZING. My boss talked me into trying it out for a trial session and I have been hooked ever since. It's a top notch facility where you know you're being pushed to the best you can be. I am not the kind of person who likes to workout. Usually I go to the gym and do the treadmill or elliptical for 30 minutes and then I call it a workout. Mostly I'm pretty sedentary and get to the gym only on weekends. I wasn't really doing myself any good at my regular gym. Started working out at Velocity and wanted to start slow. The trainers train professional athletes so I was a little intimated at first. My husband has been going here for over 2 years and can't stop talking about it, so I decided to try it myself. They break up the workout into 3 separate sections. First there is a dynamic warmup with cardio and stretches for 25 minutes. Second there are a series of activities from weight lifting to stretching to some cardio to obstacle course depending on what the trainers have in store that day. Third is another series of exercises to spike the heart rate. At first I only did the dynamic warmup, the the next session, I did the first 2 sections, then the next session I did the entire hour of workout. The workouts even with just the dynamic warmup was intensive enough to get me to feel the burn. The workouts are more fun and you don't feel your ass was kicked while you're doing it so it was not difficult to get through the entire hour. However, your body feels it the next day so you know you did some good. The classes are fun and every day is a new routine so you are never bored. They rotate trainers around so in addition to a different workout, you get different training styles. All of the trainers are very nice and they help you with your form as you go along. The energy of the class is truly amazing. You get a great workout and its fun as well. I never knew how fun workouts could be. read more

I started the women's fitness class three months ago to help to get in shape for the Camp Pendleton Mud Run and now I am addicted to it. It is the most unique workout I have ever tried and as the last reviewer stated, it is never the same twice. I was able to change my body fat composition from 29.8 to 23.1 in the first eight weeks. I feel stronger than I have in many years. It has been very rewarding to see what a 44 year old, non-athlete can achieve. I highly recommend the class. read more

I started working out in the Woman's 9:30 Fitness class 4 months ago. I was just going to do the 8 week trial and go back to The Spectrum after the trial, but I couldn't stop going to Velocity! Their trainers are top notch - they coordinate our workouts, so throughout the week we are getting balanced cardio and fitness workouts. Each session is led by a trainer with a group that is usually 8 -10 women. We start with a 10-15 minute warm up, which usually involves jump ropes, squats, running and light stretching. Then we move on to stations of weight lifting, core training, medicine balls, cow bells, cardio... We end with more cardio and a cool down. Whatever the training team comes up with, the class is challenging, but always fun! Velocity is no ordinary gym, Velocity is a facility to change your body! Velocity sports is "THE" place to workout in the South Bay of LA. I dont care if you are a soccer mom, young athlete, weeekend warrior, high school athlete, college athlete on summer or winter break, weekend warrior recreational athlete, or just looking to get your beach body for the summer. I cannot understand why folks train at other gyms, do the beach boot camps, group fitness at the garage gyms they yell at you with their board shorts on and shirts off making you do cookie cutter programs with a timer that everyone else is doing (mind you regardless of your age, health history, past injuries, or training experience, one size fits all at those places), or paying personal trainers at commerical gyms...its insane...I walk the strand and see horrific examples of "exercise programs" going on, and group classes with what appears to be "trainers" who have no clue...as well Ive visited the commercial gyms and cringe at the personal trainers doing things that would make physical therapists and sports ortho doctors vomit the form is so bad...for the price you pay for a personal trainer a few times a week, or for beach boot camp classes, or for the garage gyms with "coaches" who only have 3 days worth of training to get their "coaching certification", you can train at Velocity unlimited times each month.... The facility itself is just as good as going to any Division One school like USC, you get to train in a facility just like a big time college or pro athlete...and often, you are training next to NFL combine guys, UFC fighters, or other pro athletes who do their training at Velocity...all for the same price you pay some starving actor personal trainer or washed up ex athlete trainer/coach to put you through programs you could pull up yourself from online or a muscle magazine...which I would suggest NOT doing. Your kids can get training just like the full scholarship athletes do, which long term will prevent injuries, prevent overtraining, and increase their potential to excel in middle and high school, which if they are meant to be a college athlete this will make sure they get there.... You will not get coddled and have someone holding your hand telling you how great you are, nor will you have someone being a cheerleader yelling at you to push yourself until you puke....its a professional environment where you have "real" coaches that make sure you learn exercise form properly, and do workout routines that will help you achieve your personal goals. Most of the coaches have 4 year college degrees in exercise science (real degrees, not online), and many of them also have masters degrees in exercise science related fields. Many have also interned for many hours with college and professional sports teams, and have certifications that take a lot of studying time and other requirements other than just paying big bucks and making it through a weekend of workouts or some simple tests....I challenge you to ask your personal trainer or "coach" for their resume...see what their background is, and how much training they really have to be able to coach. Learning to do olympic lifts, speed training, prehab work, even a dynamic warmup properly, takes time....learning to coach it, takes even more time...if your coach or trainer is a paper tiger with certifications that a 12 year old could pass, or is a "coach" or trainer just because they did some hard workouts themselves, Id take a look at your hard earned money and then come look at the resumes of the coaches at Velocity. I played college football at a D-IA WAC school and then a Patriot Leauge I-AA school..both were top 20 when I played there. I also was a strength and conditioning coach for many years at an Ivy League school under a well known strength coach, and then at a Big East school thats known for its basketball studs...I ran the fitness programs for a large "brand name" police department on the east coast....training is part of my life...and Ive been an athlete, and a coach. I only wish I had the chance to go to a Velocity when I was in elementary, middle, and high school..would have saved a lot of wear and tear on my body, and I would have been a better athlete. I go there now, for both adult fitness and strength classes, and despite having tons of old injuries from sports, and more recent surgeries in the past years, I get quality training that helps improve my fitness and quality of life. I consider myself a wise consumer in the field of fitness, and this is where I train. If I had kids, this is where I would send them...this is where Id send my wife if I were married...its a great atmosphere and through the training I have made many friends, both the others in class from every age range and background of athletes to corporate America desk jockies, as well as the coaches themselves. Great place for adults and kids to train. It's not just a workout--it's an education about the proper mechanics and efficient technique necessary to perform at your best. We notified Velocity two weeks before my son's 3 month session was to expire that he would be training with his baseball team and we would not be continuing. They still charged us $762 and despite two calls over the last month have not returned a single call. read more
