I took a 6am class here via ClassPass, and it was such a great workout! I was still sore two days later. There's street parking available as well as a private lot. You'll enter the building where you see the Gate 14 signage and you'll head towards the back left to get to class. There are cubbies as well as a water filling station in the back. Everyone in the class was really encouraging and there's a big emphasis on form, which I appreciated. The instructor Al made sure to go around and give feedback while also pushing everyone to do their best. As it was a HIIT class, you get a great mix of strength and cardio. We did go outside for short runs, so note that for your choice of footwear. Overall it was a really fun class that definitely burned some serious calories. read more

Best (and hardest) workout and community ever. I have been coming for over a year now and impressed with the results from consistent 2-3 sessions a week. My body composition has changed, but Gate 14 sessions also helped my overall endurance as I was able to run a trail marathon in Moab at 46 without injury, and by just doing one long run a week with 2-3 G14 sessions. If you've gotten this far in looking at reviews, just try it. Seriously. As many have said, I've tried countless other gyms over the years, from traditional weightlifting splits with trainers to a number of CrossFits to equinox to F45 and Orange Theory based on personal moves, work schedules and injuries. I can tell you unequivocally Gate 14 takes the best elements of all of them in one package in the most difficult and fulfilling workouts you will ever do. The biggest benefit to me is the variety of full body strength and cardio workouts that to date (knock on wood) has mitigated repetitive use injuries that have plagued me in the above former workouts. At 50+ that matters to me... a lot. The trainers are legit and care deeply about you as a person and progressing. Last, it's a community. I've developed deep friendships, so much so we've hosted parties at my house for the gym. As I started, if you've read this far, just try it. I joined this gym over a year ago and never left. It is unlike any workout I've ever experienced. The staff is very knowledgeable about fitness and the science behind physical health and mental ability. The team will help guide individuals in finding their limit. If you're like me, it can be difficult to gauge one's own ability, but these guys monitor and assess what you should and should not do. This gym is hidden and tucked away in a corner of a little plaza. At first glance it doesn't seem attention calling, but don't be fooled. Once you walk in there and meet the people, hear the best music pairing to a workout, and then get through the hour workout, you will leave feeling the sense of utmost accomplishment. That sense of accomplishment has indubitably spilled over to other areas of my life as a mother, and a career woman. I think to myself - 'if I can get through this workout, I can accomplish absolutely anything that presents itself today'. It is an irreplicable feeling. Thank you to Al, Ediz, Derek, and Maggie. I have been working out at Gate14 since I was a sophomore, to help me train for my soccer career. And looking back I have gained so much more than just physical training. Gate14 has transformed my overall mentality and has helped my apply my learnings to my real life. It was the first time lifting weights when I attended Gate 14...and I'm in my fifties, so a late starter. Hands down the best gym membership I've ever purchased, and probably the one of my best purchases in self-care in general. The founders (Ediz and Al) are genuinely invested in your success and the pursuit of your fitness goals. I've been a member for about 8 months and I cannot recall doing the same workout twice. This gym is great if you're looking for high-intensity conditioning. They were nice enough to let me try them out for three whole sessions (I went on a Mon, Wed, Fri during "benchmark week). The coaches -- Rachel, Deena, and Al -- were all very encouraging and patient. The workouts were REALLY taxing from start to finish. In the end, it was just a little too much running for my taste. Lots of laps around the block and on the self-powered treads. Also, I'm absolutely terrible at math. Like . . . the worst. So when I go to a coach-led workout, my expectation is that they'll program something that I can do without having to overthink it. This is probably on me, not Gate 14. But I felt that the workouts I did required way too much thinking. "Start on Track A, do this for one minute. Next round go to Track B and count this many calories on the bike. Now back to A and add another minute. Make sure to count one point for every set of eight pull-ups and eight push-ups. Only did five? How many points is that? Do I start the next round with that exercise? Do I skip it? Do something else? Oh, it's time for another lap?" Like I said, I'm sure the problem wase and my non-existent math skills. But that's the main reason I decided not to join up. The community is great, though. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, I say get it! read more

I have been coming here for a few months now and have been more than happy with how confident and strong I feel because of the great guidance and environment that G14 provides. Here, there is comraderie right when you step in, and you quickly become part of the family. I love coming here before or after my workday, I always feel like I accomplish more than I think and feel stronger for it. The trainers here keep proper form a priority, and are relentless at pushing you to go harder. The classes are never too crowded, and everyone is always doing their best which is always the best motivation. Everyday the workout is different, and once every four weeks we do Benchmark week which helps assess how far youve come. I've never been a "gym person" but I'm hooked! It is definitely a hard work out every single time but you will never feel stronger or more encouraged. No two workouts are the same so you're always working your muscles in a new way, and challenging yourself, it also helps keep things interesting. I love how diverse the age range of clientele is (from high school athletes to retirees ) and the range of ability among them. Gate 14 opens officially just weeks before Lebron commits to LA -- coincidence???? But seriously, Gate 14 is the best. The gym photos look badass but are a little misleading in that Al and Ediz have created a super warm, inclusive community in their (very well-lit) gym. I've been spending my monthly day off during the last year+ of residency training with the crew at Gate 14 and always leave exhausted, inspired and excited to get back. The real live gym that they've built now in El Segundo is clearly a labor of love assembled with meticulous attention to detail. There are new toys and luxurious amounts of space to push yourself but still, thankfully, the same excellent people. Most important for anyone getting started, probably, the workouts are all fun (some days are structured as games, sometimes as collective group goals, others are kind of zany individual gauntlets to conquer) and they all have a clear purpose which is laid out for you up front. You get why you are doing what you're doing each day. But you also quickly see how they fit into the larger whole of the program which is like a beautiful fitness engine churning through complex variations from week-to-week and month-to-month as people scale through personal breakthrough after personal breakthrough. Plus Al and Ediz design each workout to be adaptable to a wide range of ages, fitness levels and experience (full disclosure: I have only a modest coordination and minimal athletic skill and have gotten through most everything working alongside some phenomenal athletes). And even on days when you start out feeling tired or lazy or whatever, the coaches and other trainees pick you up quick--morale is sky-high in the room with everybody high-fiving, supporting each other and ending up in the same satisfied puddle of sweat. And honestly, having seen the long-term results, it's crazy--people really are changing their bodies and their lives here. Now that I'm working a bit less I'm stoked to get down here more. I'm driving 30 minutes past 20+ other gyms with lots of yelp love just to work out here. What more can a guy say? There's just not a better place to get right with yourself. read more

I could put anything here really but I think a good selling point is that I've been attending 3-5 times a week, and I live in Orange County. Worth the traffic, 100%. Al, Ediz, Nicole and Maggie are great people spearheading a gym that's more than a place to sweat. The challenges are more than physical. Mental strength and well being are also on the menu here. Each trainer knows each attendees personal strengths and weaknesses and will adjust your workout accordingly.
