The owner is smug and condescending. Be ready for a barrage of upselling and do not expect refunds from unused purchases.

High end bike shop that doesn't replace basic bike tires. No place in town for basic bike items like the bike stop used to be

I've lost trust in this shop as a reliable bike shop in more ways than one--their billing practice,…read moreworkmanship, and basic trustworthiness, all of which are questionable at best based on my most recent experience at the shop. My experience there had been relatively positive over the past 7-8 years, but at this point I wouldn't trust them even with a basic service. I initially had a minor back-and-forth with their staff regarding incorrect charges on my receipt. While they did eventually issue a refund, I had to return shortly after for a follow-up service because the tubeless setup wasn't done correctly the first time. To make matters worse, I am reasonably certain my bike was intentionally damaged while in their care during that second visit, likely by a staff member in retaliation. Unsurprisingly, the owner has denied any wrongdoing and refused to accept any responsibility or accountability for the damage. I have been going to Haymarket Bicycles purely for convenience as they are located right down the street from me, but proximity is no longer a factor. For riders looking for trustworthy alternatives, I highly recommend Danny at Bull Run Bicycles or Chris at Blue Ridge Cyclery, both of whom have provided excellent, reliable service in the past.

The owner is awesome. I took my old beat up mountain bike that I had given to my nephew years ago…read morehere. My nephew was just a kid and like me, loved having the freedom of a bicycle so I decided to give him my old classic Stumpjumper. Well, my nephew grew up and got a car and one day asked me if I wanted my bike back which I very happily took back. But it had been sitting in the garage for years. I originally took it to two shops in SoCal and they both said around $400. Didn't have time to fix it before moving to Arlington so took my bike with me and took it to another shop in the area and they said $800! I wasn't crazy about that so came here to Big Wheel. The owner looked at my bike and was like, $150-200. I was like, naw my bike needs a lot of work. Why don't you hold on to it and let me know? Well, he fixed it up and charged me $200! All those other shops were going to buy me new wheels. He was like, I took a good look at your wheels and they're old, but you don't need new ones. You can ride those out until they blow. Agreed. He also said he could restore it (my bike was filthy) but what was the point? It's a mountain bike. Agreed. So replaced some cables, a spoke, tightened up all the loose joints, oiled and ready to ride. I rode it to my car from the shop and it rides great! Yep, this is the place.

I really appreciated that they didn't just fix it--they made sure I understood what happened. And the little details made such a difference: they even asked me what kind of music I wanted them to play in the store while they were working on my bike. Such friendly, knowledgeable, and thoughtful customer service. I felt really taken care of and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend Big Wheel!

Immediate Attention Required - Customer Treatment at Fairfax Location…read more I'm reaching out to bring a serious issue to your attention regarding your Fairfax location. I recently visited the store at the start of the spring season--typically a great time for cycling and community engagement. My intent was simple: get air in my bike tires. My initial interaction with a staff member was excellent--welcoming, helpful, and exactly what you'd expect from a community-focused business. That experience changed completely when your service manager became involved. The interaction quickly escalated into behavior that was demeaning, hostile, and completely unprofessional. I was spoken to in a way that was both disrespectful and humiliating--something I can honestly say I have never experienced in my 64 years. More concerning, I was told I was not welcome in the store. Let me be direct: that is not a customer service issue--that is a leadership issue. This individual represents your brand in the local community, and based on this interaction, does so in the worst possible way. Behavior like this doesn't just impact one customer--it erodes trust, damages your reputation, and pushes business away from what should be a community anchor. I also want to highlight the contrast: your frontline employee created a positive, welcoming experience. That tells me the culture at the ground level has potential--but it is being undermined by management behavior that is completely out of alignment. I am asking for two things: A review of this incident and the conduct of the service manager Clear confirmation of how you intend to address this moving forward I would strongly encourage you to take this seriously. Experiences like this don't stay isolated--they get shared, and they influence where people choose to spend their money. I look forward to your response. --Mark E

Highly recommend, Trek Bicycle Stafford!…read more Called and stopped in to have several of my family's bikes checked out, issues addressed, and some equipment installed. I had a great experience! First, I have to give a shoutout to Latzi B. for his outstanding service and professionalism. He was friendly, quick to look over the bikes, identify and address any issues, explain what was taken care of, and went above and beyond my expectations. I had three bikes, two had gear issues, one needed several adjustments, one needed a kickstand. Latzi was able to quickly get through all three bikes within an hour. Also, I expected it to be expensive but was very pleased by how much it came out to. While I did not purchase a bike here, they have a very wide selection of bikes to fit your needs. (Mountain, racing, electrics, and kids bikes) They do have some gear and clothing, but it's somewhat more limited. Overall, if you have any bike-related questions, issues, or repairs, I HIGHLY recommend Trek Bicycles and will definitely be bringing all my bikes to this shop!
