Excellent shop for maintenance of your bike. During the Covid-19 lockdown, cycling shops are surely essential as more and more people actually want to get outside and be active because they are tired of being cooped inside. I brought my Specialized Tarmac for maintenance and tune up. I received a gift card from my family for my birthday so I decided to use it. There is also a Yelp discount of $20 if you check into this business. It took about a week since I wasn't in any hurry to ride for my bike to be serviced. It was making all kinds of noises and doing some ghost shifting. When I picked up my bike, the man explained to me what was done. I rode it outside the shop to feel the difference. My bike felt a lot smoother and the noise was gone. This shop works on all kinds of bikes and I absolutely recommend coming here. read more

And, I happened to pick up an extra bike for summer visitors and the beach from their used stock, and it's in great rideable shape as well. A tune-up cost $79. The inside had a lot of bikes. It's an adequate shop for your simple bicycle needs. I dropped off my bike for a tune-up on Saturday and they called Monday afternoon to let me know it was ready. I picked it up on Tuesday with no issues. They must have a lot of customers since it took more than 48 hours to do a tune-up. Downfall is that they didn't give me any details about my bike and what they did with it. read more

There is no service after the sale. Once you're out the door you're on your own. Whatever you do don't get an electric bike here. Save yourself some headache and get a good elec bike (not Bintelli) from a bike shop that can diagnose and fix what they sell. Regarding the Bintelli bikes - they break down after the warranty and cannot be repaired. So that $2000 e-bike turned into a worthless pile of junk. read more

This place is pretty packed with business so I felt comfortable dropping off a $1800 bike for a new chain and stuff. At drop off, I was told my bike would be ready in 3-5 days. After a week, I went by to check on my repairs and was told it would be an additional 2+ weeks because they had to order a specific part. Great. I'm not in a rush but would have been nice to get a phone call about the additional services they planned to render. So another 10+ days go by and we get a VM that states it's ready for pickup. Their adjusted hours now Tuesday-Friday 12-5 so pickup is seriously limited. At pickup, they replaced one tire that is a different color than the original (one red tire and now one black tire) and I guess they did some additional work to it... again... without notifying me. At this point, there's no reason to make a stink since everything totaled around $150 and I rode the bike the 8 miles home and it was perfect. In the future though, I'll definitely look at other bike shops near me. I felt lucky I didn't get stuck with a $500 bill at the end. More communication and prior approval requests for services/parts would make this place a 5-star place! read more

I would caution anyone new to cycling from bringing their bike to The Bike Shop. I wanted to support a local business but was left feeling cheated financially and left with a bike that was neither rideable nor safe. I dropped off my used road bike on Tuesday, May 26th. I received a voicemail that it was ready for pick-up a week later on Tuesday, June 2nd. At first, I was surprised by the total cost since in my initial conversation with Jeff, he left me thinking my total charge would be around $100. I don't know much about bikes and asked if it was now in rideable condition. He assured me that it was. I specifically asked about the gears as well. Jeff again assured me it was all in working order. I did not have an opportunity to ride my bike until Tuesday night. I've ridden road bikes before and knew something was clearly wrong. It was neither safe nor ridable. After shelling out $186 to The Bike Shop, I could not stomach going back to an establishment that would cut corners in such an egregious manner. I took my bike to another bike repair specialist in DC today (June 3rd). He was shocked when I explained the situation. He explained that they hadn't adjusted the front or back derailleurs. He showed me where the fastening bolt on the front derailleur was loose and moving while tying to upshift. The rear derailleur hanger was off centered. He said it doesn't look like they checked for any of these issues which is supposed to be standard for any basic tuneup, especially a so-called deluxe tune up ($79.99) that I was charged for. This is a great shop. I'm in from out of town with a broken bike and I called Jeff up on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and he says bring the bike over. I explained that I had to leave town right after the holiday and he said leave it with me and I'll get it today. 90 minutes later he calls me and it was fixed. And it was. Fantastic service. As someone who takes the local bike shop scene serious, I spend a lot of time and money supporting such. However, that will not be the case with this place. I have no idea what planet these guys come from, but what I do know is that the service was flat out crap. I went in as an impulse shopper and was automatically bombarded by some sort of know it all of bikes. When I started asking about bike components, the dude started to refer to an employee who was not there that day and that I should return on such and such date. I looked around and didn't know how to escape , hence I started to ask if they had chain stay protectors....and the guy looked clueless. I proceeded to explain what it was and was told that duct tape would work (damned duct tape). I wanted to extend my pimp hand at that moment....however, I about faced right out the front door. Now lets talk about the service. While I was there I witnessed a mother and son walk in with a mediocre bicycle. The kid had a flat and the mom explained to the DB behind the counter that this was his mode of transportation to and from school. They had a simple flat tire which would have taken any trained tech about 10 minutes or less to swap out and repair. But NO.....the dude told them to drop it off and that it would be ready in about a week. I felt like telling them...buy the tube and ill go outside and fix it for free in about 10 minutes.... I went to this shop to have some components installed on my bike. The Good: The repair costs here are cheap. The Bad: They have absolutely no idea what they are doing. The folks at this shop tried selling me components that I didn't need, because of their lack of knowledge about bike parts. I had to make a trip back to the shop to explain to them what they were installing. Even the minor repairs i asked them to take care of were not done correctly. I took my bike in to have the rear derailleur replaced. The owner (I assume) greatest me and took the bike. He warned me that he was backed up. That's a sign of someone people trust. I've been going here for seven years. Don't listen to the other reviews about the expense. These guys have worked on my bike, my wife's, and the bikes of my twin girls. They always give a fair estimate. They always have it finished on time. And they are very cool about regular tune ups and wisdom as needed. They even removed the pedals off my girls bikes as I taught them how to glide through cones in parking lots (as I didn't want to buy a pedal wrench) and then they put the pedals back on for me when they were ready to hit the trails the first time with me.....all for free. One of many examples of how they care for regular customers. I couldn't recommend them more highly. This shop is an exemplar of why small businesses will never be supplanted by large corporations. You can buy a cheap bike on amazon but you'll still need the guys at the bike shop for maintenance and tips. Took brand new BMX bike to The Bike Shop today to see if they could unlock the pedals and our grandson could ride his Christmas gift. They did not hesitate diagnosing and i did not ask what it would cost to repair. Just had a a good feeling they would do the job And trusted they would not take advantage I didn't ask for an estimate. My instinct was right. They did the job quickly and the charge was minimal. No frills bike assembly service. I had ordered a pricey enduro bike online and needed it to be assembled and tuned. Spokes asked $120. This place asked $80. So it was an obvious choice. This is a locally owned business which is alway a preference for me anyways. Service was very personal and friendly. Received good tips on local trails from the owner. Very flexible terms of service. Walked in and noticed they didn't carry any name brand bikes. They were selling bikes that they bought from Alibaba for super cheap at way over price. I would not trust these bikes on any trail. Let's just say walmart has better bikes at that price range that I trust more. No one could tell me anything about the bikes either other than they had disc brakes, which I could tell by looking at the wheels. If you're ok with an over priced not safe knock off, go for it, if you want something safer and probably cheaper, go to a different bike shop read more

This place is great. I've had nothing but great experiences and awesome attention to detail with customer service. I'm not sure where some of these "one-star" reviews came from - but several of them read like they were written by run-of-the-mill, uptight know-it-alls. Don't pay attention to these "reviews" with an ax to grind. This place is where you want go to to get a bike or have it serviced. They have new and used, entry-level and high-end. You WILL be able to find what you need. I bought two bikes from here and I've had tune-ups done on both. In fact, about two weeks ago, my bike started making a horrible clattering sound which strongly resembled the sound of a busted clutch on a car. I was in the middle of a ride during one of the recent monsoons and I "limped" it into the shop. I told the mechanic what was wrong. He immediately dropped what he was working on and got my bike into the rack. He made a few adjustments and tuned the bike right there. I told him I'd be back in a few minutes to pay him, since my wallet wasn't with me. (I was on a bike... ) He told me, "no charge." I was very pleased with the service I received. They are top-notch. Don't listen to the whiners. Some people are never happy. read more

Took my bike there for service and new tires a couple of years ago. The cost was fair, but not cheap. The bike is still going strong. I just rode it today. About two months ago, I purchased a new pair of bike shoes from the Bike Shop. They fit well, but when I used them, I realized they were wider than my old shoes and rubbed against the crank. I took the shoes back and the owner ordered a different style of bike shoe that fit better. From checking on the internet, I realized that the retail price of the new shoes was higher than the shoes I originally purchased. However, when I picked up the new shoes, I was pleasantly surprised when the owner said "even trade". I will definitely go back there the next time I need service or a new bike. read more

We were looking for a 20" bike WITH gears (these are not cheap) for our child who has outgrown the current bike and is going to outgrow the 20" in the not too distant future. My husband called earlier in the week to ask about specific bikes "The Bike Shop" had in stock. He was told they only had one used one. My child and I stopped by to ask about the bike. At first I didn't believe the bike we saw in the front of the store was a used bike. I asked about the price and it was perfect! I sent my kid back to the front of the store to ask the Owner (John, maybe?) if I could pay for it and if he could hold it for me. He gave me his card and said I could call him later and we could do it over the phone so my kid wouldn't know that about the bike for upcoming birthday. AWESOME! (You don't find that in most retail because they want to make the sale right then, right now! I know, I work retail.) I phoned out of ear shot of my kid to pay for the bike and asked how long they could hold it before I needed to pick it up. The Owner told me he would put a "sold" tag on it and hold it as long as I needed. Great customer service! This is not our first awesome experience with The BIke Shop in Centreville. read more

This is based only on the drop-off so far. I was there 10 minutes before they opened, because I needed to get in and get out before another appointment. They opened 10 minutes late, and only after someone pulled up with a trailer in front of the store. He went right in, and was being helped. No acknowledgment from either of the two guys working there for a few minutes, until I was asked 'whats this bike need'? Told him, and he handed me a service order form and asked me to fill in name and number. Filled it out, asked the prices, when it would be done, and left. Will update after I get my bike back, and see how the rest of the experience was. read more

Took the bike there for a tune up and to have a tube replaced. They lost the ticket in the shop, lost the bike, I called several times to ask about it, was told they would find it, fix it, and give me a discount. Three weeks later I pick it up, no tune up, tube at least replaced, no discount. Won't ever be going back there. read more

Sure it is a small shop but that is the beauty of it. Just got my 27 year-old rear wheel rebuilt on a road bike and they did an excellent job. They delivered the bike earlier than quoted and were very reasonable in price. In-fact I couldn't find anyone cheaper. They were also very honest in helping me asses if I should purchase a new bike or keep mine. Honest is the key here, they could have tried to sell me what they have (which are very nice bikes) instead they showed me the pros and cons and gave me clear direction of the price point I would need to hit to improve my current ride. Almost all the other shops in the Tri-State area bike shops told me to buy new because my bike is older (but not dead) instead of spending the time to figure out what I needed to continue enjoying riding during these tuff economical times. Poor quality service and dangerous! I brought my bike here to replace the rear derailleur mount. Well apparently they ordered the wrong mount and then did a hack job to make it fit AND they did not bolt the mount to my frame. The only thing holding the derailleur mount to my bike was the quick release skewer. Afterwards, I brought the bike to two other shops and they both informed me that this was a poor job and very dangerous to not properly bolt the mount to the frame. The owner at The Bike Shop told me that it was one of his other mechanics that did the work and apologized. read more

It was expensive. I got a new shifter (SRAM mrx comp installed for 60.00. I didn't know it then but the set sells pretty much everywhere including REI for 15.99. I paid 39.99 plus 20.00 labor. The staff was very knowledgeable and the labor wasn't bad but parts are way too much when they are more than double than what you will pay elsewhere. read more
