This shop has been here a long time and they matched my leather sofa cushion perfectly yet in my experience the communication is poor and the prices get switched, quality questionable. Had one sofa cushion reupholstered and had to bring it back twice- once when the cushion inside was pathetic and my new sofa cushion sank down below my older cushions. I cannot rave enough about this hidden gem!!!!! The prices, customer service, expertise to say the least were absolutely amazing. I felt like I stepped back in time when customers mattered and quality workmanship meant for something! The honesty and prices were jaw dropping for the quality I received MORE than reasonable prices! In fact I was quoted $2,400. from Riviera and given a line of bs, but not at the Velvet Touch! Good down home work and timely too. I WILL be back and I highly recommend this place. I fact all you in downtown Los Angeles it would be worth the trip to the business even with the price of gas. If your curious what I had reupholstered... a chair and ottoman they threw in an antique stool and covers for the arms and back. Not a good experience with this shop. I had a loveseat with an ottoman and an oversized couch reupholstered. When I got the couch back it was like sitting on a hard board. I asked Gary to put softer foam on the inside and he became very aggressive and loud, telling me all the reasons I was wrong for wanting it softer and how only 1 other person had ever asked for softer foam. He redid the foam but the couch is still hard and uncomfortable. The workers also added an extra inch in height to the cushions so now the loveseat and ottoman do not match. I took pictures with a ruler showing the height difference and Gary denied it. I could have bought new furniture for what I paid him and I would have been able to choose the comfort level. I will not use this shop again and would not recommend it. read more

Tried to call to get a quote twice. The first call's reception was so bad that it was dropped, with full bars on my end. The second call was answered with what sounded like aggression and again, bad signal. Hours and days open aren't posted on the website which would be helpful so I'm not driving out there just to find out that they're closed. This was my first call today trying to get an idea what it would cost to repair/restore the inside of my 1987 4Runner. So I called the place that I have seen for decades right next to the old DMV. He immediately answered the phone and said that he would have to see it and bring it in. Having no idea what this kind of thing cost I asked if he had ever done a 4 Runner and he yells "I'm getting sick of people trying to get quotes over the phone! It's an upholstery shop and I been doing this for 40 years! We have done it all. People don't think we know what we are doing!" I then told him that this was my first call because I had never done this before. I told him that the questions were not for him the questions were for us. If he had "done it all" then he could have given me a range. He should probably let someone else answer that phone. read more

Owner was not a pleasant person . The workers there were very helpful. When I got the price for the alterations to a shade cloth. I told him I would just reorder them from the company in the correct size. He said I bought Chinese product. The product was tagged made in USA. From a nice state called Indiana. Not very happy, owner seems pissed off all the time, he lost one of my boat seats, and tried to say I didn't bring it in even though work order showed it. I asked him to do one more piece for me. He quoted me a price which was about half the price as the 4 other pieces I gave him. I felt he was trying to rip me off, and when I told him that price was half as much as he did the other 4 parts. He got mad at me, and I knew. I do not ever want to have him touch any upholstry work for me again. Very bad experience. read more

Stopped in to get an estimate today for a motorcycle backrest. Unfortunately the guy in the office I talked to was the most rude, nasty and unprofessional person I've met in a long time. Explained what I had in mind and hios comment was "I'm not stopping some well paying jobs for something like that. It will take a long time and cost $295 dollars" Um, well, the entire luggage rack and back rest was less than that. All he had to say was I'm sorry but we just don't have time at the moment. Apparently this person doesn't understand anything at all about running a business and dealing with customers. How did he know I would not return for future work being a happy customer? The way I feel now, I would not take a bicycle seat there and would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

The owner Gary is rude and is ripping people off. I went in there for a quote on a motorcycle seat to get reupholstered and he quoted me 500.00. So I asked him why so high of a price, he said this is not Tijuana. Mind you I went right down the street and got my seat reupholstered for 150.00. I do not recommend this business to anyone. I have used this shop more than once and will use them again. I have found the shop personnel to be skilled, knowledgeable and helpful. On one occasion they even turned down a repair as unnecessary. The services aren't cheap but then neither is the furniture I am asking them to repair. read more
