The food was well balanced, flavorful, and perfectly portioned to last the full eight courses. Cocktails (negroni and old fashioned) were delicious and high quality. IMHO it is much better than the other prix fix place in leavenworth (won't name drop). Wow! We had dinner with wine pairings at velveteen. This was honestly one of the best meals and dining experiences I have ever had - and I would put this on par or better than the top tier Seattle restaurants. Every course, from the smoked trout amuse to the goat cheese with cheesecake with spicy Dulce de leche was amazing - perfectly balanced, interesting, and amazing flavors both in parts and total. Our servers were perfection and the wine paring was both tasty and fitting as well as interesting as he tied geopolitics in Argentina to the wine and food! Ambiance was top notch too. I want to start out saying my husband and I are normal cheap ass people who go out of our way to eat places we only have coupons for. Subway is expensive for us. But we decided after so much sadness that has happened over the passed two years that we were going to give ourselves a weekend away, call it a honeymoon, and do something we had never considered in a million years. Spending this much money for food seemed like such an insanely bad idea but we said SCREW IT. I want to eat somewhere with white tablecloths like the fancy folk. We made this reservation and drove over 4 hours to get to this city. And, believe me, IT WAS WORTH IT. 7 courses (plus coffee), 3.5 hours, $400ish and every single bit of it was an unforgettable experience. The ambiance (not a word I use often but I totally get now) was dim and intimate - the perfect setting for our anniversary. The food was well thought out, delicious, and beautiful. My favorite part though (other than gossiping with my husband about how funny the tiny food was) was the service. I desperately wish I caught the waiters name, and I do hope he reads this, he literally topped off the night with perfect service. Not once have I had a waiter make me regret that I didn't catch their name. When you make your reservation you have to put comments about any food aversions or issues you need them to work around (in my case pregnancy-so nothing raw ) and he walked up to us like he had been following us on Facebook for ten years. He "read my chart" better than doctors do and he incorporated what he knew into the experience. The jokes he told made me feel like we weren't crazy cooks out of our element but welcomed friends. We walked into this thinking we'd leave thinking, "what a stupid thing to spend money on" but I understand now. You're not paying for small food portions, you're paying for a memory that will last a lifetime. read more

What magic was this... A special occasion made beyond memorable by the wizardry of Velveteen. We made the trip out to Wenatchee because our friends wanted to try this place and I have a feeling it may become a quarterly pilgrimage. Chef Kim has a touch that magnified not only the taste of her quality ingredients but the beauty within them. Each dish was a balanced work of art and the timing created for a show stopping meal that left us full but not stuff. The attention to detail in the space allows for a vibe of comfort but elevated style, finding "The Rabbit" in so many delightful places. Jacob, our server, was a king. From the balanced cocktails, perfected wine paring and attentive care to our table we were honored to have him guide us through our evening. Same here for their masquerade grand opening. The inside of the restaurant is stunning and very calm and peaceful. The food was amazing and I'm excited to go back for a dinner with my wife. Service was 100% the best I've had in Wenatchee. Drinks stayed full. Food continued to come, and the servers were super friendly and very knowledgeable on the food items. The food at Velveteen was so original, creative and delicious. We chose not to study the menu prior to dining...rather we chose to just go and experience the the dining as it was presented. And we were surprised and amazed at the food we were served. The chef presented the food in such a beautiful way and she married flavors that were unique and original. The service by Jacob was timely and knowledgeable. We were never rushed and never had to ask for anything. Would I recommend this restaurant? With a resounding yes! I had never previously dined at a restaurant that presented courses as does the Velveteen Rabbit - so I didn't really know what to expect. But wanting to rise to the occasion, I wore my black suit and bowtie, just to be fancy. Dinner started at 6:30, with an "Amuse Bouche" of Prime Beef Tartare. Being uncultured, I had to look up the term to discover it meant hors d'oeuvres. According to Google, it was defined as bite-sized. I'm pleased to tell you, one would look really uncouth sticking what I was served into my mouth in one fell swoop. At any rate, it was devine! Next came "Roasted Prawn & Fresh Crabcake." I love crabcake, but the last time I visited the Oregon Coast, crab was over $50/pound, so I settled for shrimp. The Velveteen Rabbit made up for the Oregon disappointment, as this serving came in cognac lobster sauce, tarragon oil, and micro greens. At this point, I didn't know how many courses were served, but I was definitely hoping for more! That plate disappeared and was replaced with "Manchego Croquette Serrano ham" and a Spanish anchovy. Okay, again, I'm not all that cultured, much less fluent in "Europeanese." So I wasn't sure what on my plate, except the small fish (which was surprisingly tasty). The croquette kinda' looked like a deep-fried cheese ball. No matter... how does one go wrong with Manchego cheese and cured ham. Again - home run. When the "Truffle Cauliflower Bisque" arrived, and we partook, I thought my wife was going to swoon. I have absolutely no idea how the chef could turn cauliflower into something so delicious. The event took three hours, and continued with "fresh shaved truffle Velveteen's Wicked Cousin braised rabbit," "Blackberry lemon ice," "Lamb cherry chutney, veal demi glace, black pepper mint whipped feta," "lemon baby gold potato," before concluding with "Grand Marnier Souffle." In all honesty, each course was a work of art - every bit as delicious as they were attractive. How I could consume so much culinary pleasure at one sitting, with every dish complimenting the previous, I cannot explain. Was this expensive? By my budgetary standards, yes, at $140. HOWEVER, would I do it again in lieu of 7 visits to MacDonald's? ABSOLUTELY! This was an experience - one I doubt I'll ever forget. The venue and its décor, the service, the comfort, the appropriate separation between diners, the overall elegance of the place, and of course, the food - all provided a very special occasion! My husband and I got to enjoy the opening months menu at Velveteen. When you step behind the curtain in to the restaurant the decor is beautiful. The plush velvet banquette was very comfortable, the tables were perfectly set, the lighting was perfect for date night, and our server was friendly but not intrusive. We started out with superb cocktails and the food was delicious with fantastic wine pairings. I love when I get to find a new wine I enjoy and managed to do just that with the Tavel that they had paired with the cauliflower bisque. I can't recommend this restaurant enough and hope to return later this year! read more
