I just visited this location for the first time in hopes to find a perfect plant for indoors. I tell the guy working there that I don't know a whole lot about plants and I'd like some help. He goes, there are 1000's of plants in there, go look. I was really hoping for him to help walk me through this. He had zero other customers and was just busy moving plants around. I have been going to Venice Plants since I became a homeowner and live nearby and I've used them for my clients as gifts and also for decorating their creative spaces. The selection of plants are wonderful, diverse, and not to mention -- the prices are reasonable! Dustin, the owner, has owned this store for 30 years. He's quite the character and helped me buy a variety of plants including a Euphorbia (see photo). I got a rubber plant and another jungle plant. I had a blast picking everything out and he showed me all of his favorite picks. He even threw in a free jasmine when I inquired about it because I bought 4 plants. I've been purchasing plants for my home and garden from Dustin and his family for years. It is a great store with plenty of inventory - you can find anything you want here... Hipster cacti, succulents & fiddles; bossy Arabian Lilacs & Kentias; exotic aloe & agave varieties (and plenty more). Dustin is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to choosing the right plant for the right place with respect to sunlight, shade, water etc. He's not a "yes-man" - he'll tell you if a plant isn't going to work for you, which is great. I've landscaped almost my entire property with VP plants; it looks awesome and all of my plants are thriving because of Dustin's expertise. I also just like stopping by the nursery on the weekends to say whattup because the crowd is always mad chill. read more

I try to support local businesses even if that means spending a bit more, but I just can't justify it if the service is so poor. I've been to Venice Plants twice, the first time I couldn't find anyone to assist me and none of the plants are marked with names or prices so I left. The second time I went to buy one of their wooden plant stands. I asked the younger owner the price and he said "oh it won't fit your pot. We make it for our pots." I had brought a measuring tape to confirm that it actually would fit my pot, so I asked if they sell it separately. He said "we do, do you want to buy it?" He was so hesitant to tell me the price that clearly they have subjective pricing. I told him I did want to buy it depending on the price. At this point it was clear to me that for whatever reason he didn't want to sell me to stand, thought that I couldn't afford it, or only wanted me to buy it if I bought a pot from them too. He just made it seem like it was such a hassle to help me that I left. There are so many other local nurseries, why shop at one where the owners are rude and unhelpful? read more

Just picked up a sweet cactus for outside my front door. I drove up from the South Bay to shop here. They just have great looking cacti and other plants - which are in nice pots. True, they're priced like a plant shop in Venice, but a little flexible on pots, replanting, and decorative rocks. Also, it's a family shop, with 2 generations working together. This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced! I asked the price of a small plant... and the guy who runs it said "I don't know, $12?" Based on his tone, I asked if he could do better on the price. He responded "don't buy it, I don't care." I then asked for the price of the same plant - unpotted. Found Venice plants becuase it is just about the only nursery open a little later. They were extremely nice and the prices were very good. As well as many different types of succulents and plants great for landscaping, they had some very beautiful and unique plants we had never seen before. We really enjoyed exploring this nursery. Here u can pick the succulents and they will plant it for u in a very pretty pot. I took my time to decide which plant I want and they are very patient with that. The result is amazing. I saw a lemon tree that was trained to grow on a lattice so it wouldn't take up too much space so I asked Dustin if he could get one for me. He called me back and had 3 to choose from and dropped it off for me on his way home that evening. Good luck getting that kind of service at Home Depot. Whether it's building my personal plant collection with new trees, succulents, cacti or air plants - or buying a gift for a friend, Venice Plants is my go-to. I've now bought 4 beautiful plants from them, the minimalist style of their planters and stands are a dream. The prices are super reasonable, especially for Venice - and though they are always busy (a good sign) they are patient and kind when it comes to helping you pick out your new babies. Venice plants has a nice selection of plants but also terrible costumer service - you have to beg to have some attention. It's evident that they don't take care of the plants or really care for their work. The selection of pots is next to nonexistent and they charge you to transplant the plant (even if it is super small). Fortunately on the way back home I found La Belle Plant it's only a couple blocks away, they have a better selection and excellent customer service, I highly recommend you to go straight there. read more

beware!!!! owner dustin screamed and swore at me in front of my 12 yr old autistic daughter throwing her into a full autistic meltdown. please, please do not support this man or his business. i grew up in venice, and venice plants has been a long time fixture at fox's swap meet. he is known to think of himself as "og", a gangster without a gang. the way he speaks to customers is outrageous. rude and very impatient, as is his lazy son. i bought a 9 foot indoor plant for my parents 57th anniversary. they felt it was too big, and asked if i could exchange it for something smaller. the moment i came back in with the plant, he roughly grabbed it and absolutely lost his mind. his rant began like this. word for word... "these stupid white designers, i charge them 30 times as much as i charge normal people, and they are so stupid, they don't give a shit"!!!! on one side the outer leaves were shriveled from the sun. it had been in my car maybe 45 minutes, and the day was hot. i had not seen the maybe 10 burned leaves. he just had to trim them down. i didn't even have the chance to respond, and in front of my scared daughter, who is autistic, not that it should matter, he lost total control. screaming that i lost him money, i ruined the plant, etc. he was pacing, swearing and posturing. he said he doesn't want my business, and asked how i payed. i told him credit card, and he refused to refund the card. i was not asking for a refund. i was in shock. as this is going on, my daughter looked terrified and was trying to hold back tears. i said you are scaring my daughter. you are out of control screaming at me. he then turns to my daughter, and screams at her saying,"i'm not screaming at your mom and you know it" and my brave daughter said, your screaming at her right now. he then grabbed his checkbook, very quickly wrote a check for the amount, and told me i lost him money, still screaming and swearing. i was leaving anyway, with or withut the check. i didn't know if it was an honest check, i knew i had to get us out of there. his adult son watched the whle thing, as he was playing on his phone, like this was normal behavior. the son finally said, just give her her money back. he threw the check at me, and we ran to the car. this is a very dangerous and out of control man. he did this in front of a child without the ability to be calm, or rein himself back in. please do not support venice plants or dustin. it took me until the following day to stop shaking. there is another outdoor plant store, exactly the same on lincoln and marine. give that place your business. please read more

To my surprise, the service here was exceptional and their selection was overwhelming large. Dustin was a pleasure to work with and he helped me pick out exactly what I was in search of. Any plant you could possibly want - they have. Plus, they have a big selection of beautifully painted pots and stones to go with your plants.
