I wish I could review the atmosphere, food, drinks, service, etc., but when we went to the bouncer to ask if there was a cover charge, he mentioned something about only allowing in people on the VIP guest list. Venue is one of the last places in Hampton Roads that should have a guest list. It's tiny, overcrowded, and not that great. After saying only VIP is allowed in, he asked our guy friend who he's with, so he goes "there's me, another guy, and two lesbians." Bouncer goes "are they lesbians or are they dykes?" Excuse me? Who the fuck asks that? So, I didn't even get to make it in. Wish I could give zero stars but I'll just have to settle with one. read more

Me and 3 other friends went here on New Years Eve after I made reservations. First of all, they did not mention a dress code. The guy would not let us in because my friend, who had just come back from Iraq by the way, was wearing an American Eagle shirt that didnt have a collar. It is THE WORST PLACE EVER! It's a shame that it's 2015, and you are still being denied entrance to an establishment due to the color of your skin. You turned me away because of an "imaginary" guest list that was, and I quote, "in your head", and before I can get back into my car I see your doorman letting in a group of white people. I can honestly say I haven't been to this place in at least 3 years but it was always just ok to me more so like a place to go if I had nothing else to do. I have heard some stories of them being prejudice to certain races I personally have never felt that here but things could have changed since the last time I've been here. This place is delicious. My friend dragged me out on a Friday after months of raving about their burgers which are half price on Friday's. The ambience is cool and very rock and the bartender definitely lived up to that vibe. It was early -7ish -and I had my infant, who slept peacefully the entire time. That early it's steady w a ton of regulars that seem to know each other and the staff and the crowd was diverse. The burger choices were many and made it hard to choose but I decided on the Smokehouse burger mostly Bc it came on a baguette but the bacon and blue cheese did not dissuade me. Man that burger was good and the fried Mac and cheese bites I chose as a side did not disappoint! Great happy hour Margarita made this place a perfect night out for me. I had a ridiculously awful dining experience yesterday at Venue. Do not go to Venue.. again, DO NOT go to Venue. (Unless you're newly 21 or really craving to dance on a bar.) My friend and I went into the smoking section to enjoy a cigarette and possibly a shot before joining the rest of our group in the 'dining room'.. Three servers walked past us, absolutely no one stopped to ask if we needed anything (a drink?). We tried getting someone's attention, but clearly no one cared about serving us, as well as getting a pretty decent tip for 3 min of their time.. Anyway, we slide on over to our party, order a few drinks from a server (Kelly). The game was on, and we just wanted to hang out and have a few cocktails. I had been drinking all day (Sunday Funday), but because of a food allergy, and not trusting previous pit stops, hadn't eaten at all.. I heard Venue had awesome food so I had a buddy of mine see if they could make a plain gluten free steak, with sides if they they had any available for my condition.. (disclaimer: this is no diet, I get VERY sick -- seizures, muscle pains, etc -- if I eat gluten). My food was very punctual, HOWEVER, the server came over with a steak WRAP. She dropped it off quickly and hurried away. We put the plate at the far opposite corner of the table, no big deal.. she came back and asked why I didn't like it. How do you tell a server the WRAP contains gluten??? She looked offended and upset and blamed my friend who ordered saying he asked for a steak wrap gluten free.. First off, NEVER blame a guest.. I've worked in restaurants for the better part of 10 years as a server.. and you never make someone feel bad who is TIPPING YOU because YOU dropped the ball.. Yikes. Anyway, I told her to take her time, we were in no hurry, and I just really wanted a steak... She proceeded to tell me she only had us and another table and then she could leave, insinuating that no, the food will come out quickly because she needed to leave. Yikes, NEVER tell a guest that. (Who do you think you are?? It's only 5 o'clock at night!) (Disclaimer: I would never EVER make this up. Again, I've worked in the business for years, and exaggeration is never my style.) Well the steak did come out quickly, and without flour, my friends and I shared the steak strips. It was awesome. After we're done sharing my food, a friend orders an appetizer. While he and a few other friends are outside, the server comes over and sits next to me to discuss separate checks. (We were planning on staying for a few more drinks, but whatever, it's the server's job to decide when we should leave, right?) She splits the checks, hands me mine and aggressively asks "Cash or credit". In my head, I'm thinking neither, I'll pay when I'm ready thank you. My friends and I pay while she's standing over us. She brings back my credit card receipt and stays over at the table. Has a brief conversation with my friend and then looks over at me "Can I take this please - oh, you haven't filled it out yet?". I looked at her and told her I hadn't filled it out yet. I was pretty annoyed at this point, so I may or may not have given her attitude.. She give me a few minutes and comes back and scoops up the check. She winds up leaving Venue before the app ever hits the table - wings with no silverware, no napkins, no server - good thing my friend needed to get some exercise in or walking to the bar may have been a hassle. The food tasted good, but the service was god awful. I don't think I'll ever be stepping foot in this place again, it was just that bad and unwelcoming. There's too many decent bars in VB.. Kelly was one the worst servers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Which was too bad for her, since we are all servers and would have tipped generously for decent service, and just an hour more of her time.. She blamed us for her mistake, vocally said she was waiting on us to finish so she could leave, and then left before my friend even got his food. She was friendly, but only the fake-can-I-take-your-money friendly, and almost single-handedly ruined a great day with friends because of her selfishness. Went here last night for ALLYOUCANEAT crab legs, never had to wait for a plate the food came out so fast, the bartenders and servers all treated us like we were their family... The atmosphere was so nice that I ended up staying all night long and it was a blast.... They had a bikini competition with very classy ladies not trashy ones like at some bars... Overall I was very impressed.. The crowd was extremely diverse and everyone was getting along.... Will surely go back a lot!!!!! read more

So last night me and a couple of friends wanted to go out and have a few drinks. We decided that we would go to Venue 112. We arrive and instantly get denied by the bouncers. Allegedly, there was a list you had to be on to get in. I've been there before on a Saturday night with just me and my girl and we got in no problem. We were not asked about any list. It's the fact that four black men wanted to go in is why we get denied. I asked one of the bouncers, where was this so called list. He looked around to try to find it, then looked at me and told me it's in his head. This is not the first time I've gotten denied when going with a group of my black friends. 1st time visit, didn't stay for dinner, won't go back. We were meeting friends for a birthday celebration and dinner. We had quite an experience while waiting for our friends to arrive. When we walked in it felt a little trashy, but we went ahead and sat down. Waitress was friendly. After a few minutes a woman who we first thought was a patron, but was a waitress started smoking (in the non-smoking side), then she began with the foul language. She was loud and crude. She would blast the music so she could sing, then call our waitress a B****. Then she began loudly using the F*** word as much as possible. Within a few minutes I bet she used the word at least 10 times. At that point we walked out and waited for our friends and went somewhere else. This place is dark, trashy, nasty feeling and the wait staff is appropriate for the feel of the place. Don't take your friends or loved ones there! read more

HORRIBLE! Where to begin...did not try the food but it is a bar..sooooo. Drinks...my mix drinks tasted almost full soda...I noticed other reviews said the opposite but I did not experience the strong or cheap drinks. Waitstaff all needs makeovers...skanks! DJ....was the WORST! Went 2 Saturdays ago and he literally got Boo'ed by people. One guy kept booing him and the DJ challenged the guy to "step" to him...the management literally kicked out the patron for booing their horrible, loud mouth DJ....it was insane. I think everyone agreed the DJ was bad...no one was even dancing ....there is no dance floor anyway...but there was one drunk older lady on the bar (yes they dance on the bar here..DJ was promoting it to his Will Smith music) Seperate smoke room-this is actually the room that you enter thru...so you walk thru this crowded, foggy, stinky smoker room to get to the other room that is seperated by a door that is constantly opening...therefore each room smells just as bad as the other. My clothes stunk so bad later that night after leaving..YUCK! Get some air circulating! The place was sticky and dirty and trash was all over the floors...my bathroom experience was not great either but hey it is a nasty bar so what do you expect. I've been here several times with my husband and friends and always had a good time until tonight. Jon the bartender aka "the guy who runs things" according to security kicked my husband out because he didn't tip him on one of the 6 rounds our party had purchased. I was in complete disbelief that this happened considering while my husband was ordering our round there was a belligerent drunk throwing paper napkins in his face. However he felt it necessary to say "What did you leave me earlier?" "Okay then you'll have to wait!" We planned on making it a night there so we planned on leaving more than what we had already left. Between my friends and is the tips were over 25 dollars. So I suppose the moral of this story don't come here if you're drinking on a budget you might get kicked out too. It may also be because my husband is black and he had a problem with it but regardless it was an unnecessary move. We did decide to make it out there one more time but when we got to the door we were told it was a private party. Please take your business somewhere else until they learn to treat their customers with respect. There was napkins all over the floor, so women were walking around with paper stuck to their heels! The dress code is not posted and the bartenders ridicule patrons who are turned away! Policies are understandable and well needed when alcohol is served, but I was offended that a place of business would feel the need to criticize people who are willing to come in and spend money. A polite refusal was all that was needed! After witnessing that ordeal, I have decided to not go back! Please don't go to this club! My family and I just had the worst experience there last night! It was my daughters birthday. We're visiting from nj. My nephew suggested this place Bc it was near his house. Seven of us went including my husband, two daughters, their boyfriends, and my nephew. After a little while my daughters boyfriend went to the bathroom. He took his beer with him. After leaving the bathroom and passing the bar the owner who looked like a bouncer ACCUSED HIM OF STEALING THE BEER.!!! Absolute ridiculousness on so many levels. First we had a running tab with several drinks why would he then go steal one?! Second they had my credit card the tab was in my husbands name the bill was on us so why would he need to steal when his drinks were already free... btw we stupidly paid even after the false accusation and having been asked to leave. Last the bouncer/owner said that the cook said he entered the kitchen and stole the beer. Which is most absurd Bc how would he have any clue that beers were in the kitchen ... I guess he snuck into the kitchen like a homeless person scavenging for food but instead found a $3 dollar beer...idiots ...only someone who worked there would know beers were in the kitchen! So the cook was a liar! (Little did they know that this kid is in med school. And we are all very financially comfortable none of us have a need to steel.) Idk maybe they judged a group of blacks/Hispanics and assumed the worst.... Not sure but it was extremely poor taste and business practice! All they had to do was count the full beer bottles on our table further proving he didn't take it ...or ask the waitress. We're here for a week along with numerous other family members. I decided to take my friends from Raleigh North Carolina out for a good time. We decided to go to 112 Venue on a Saturday night, 2 wks ago. We were all prior Marines and one active Marine. We were dressed up with slacks dress shoes and ties. More for upscale club, but we heard about this Sports Bar and decided to try it out. We showed up about 1030. There was a short line. I'm Puerto Rican and my friends were Latino and African American. We notice the two bouncer with lack of communication skills trying to pick and choose who went in. Obviously the women were no problem, but the African American guys and minority men in front of us were told they can't come in because they were under dressed. We saw nothing wrong with what they wore, so we waited again for more girls to be let in before the jackass that turned to us and said, this party is reserved for someone's birthday and Vip. Are you on the list? We knew this was wrong, and an asswhopping Would have been appropriate response. But since we were held to a high standard as Marines. We told the jackass, okay. We will spend our $$$ elsewhere. They lost some potential loyal customers that night. I'd rather stay home and have a party than to spend my money in this trashy joint. I see no good coming out of this place anytime soon. We did recover from the judgmental racist act and partied it up at a way better establishment. It was epic night afterwards! My friends had a better night knowing no one was racist at the place we went to. I went here the other night for the first time for a few drinks with some friends from work, it was awesome. Not only do they serve a wide variety of drinks, some I never even heard of, but they also have a full service kitchen and the food was delicious. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
