We went today for lunch and it did not disappoint. Surprisingly not too busy for the 3rd of July. He had the always yummy Italian sub warmed in their oven and I had the grilled chicken warm tortilla wrap which was good.. not as good as his but still good! We both took half home they were so big. Their french fries are so tasty and always nice and hot! We sat at the bar this time and Janelle was working and she was spot on.. we certainly could tell she was a seasoned bartender! Friday Night is Pizza Night: we ended up at Venus II in Marshfield, heard good things about it, we started with a Homemade Greek Salad and Homemade Greek Vinegarette Dressing, it was one of the best ones I've had, then I had some Onion Soup it was good, very Flavorful and perfect amount of Onions in it, then Pizzas came out: I got the "Special Pizza" with Green Peppers, White Onions, and Mushrooms, it was really good, she got by accident Half Pepperoni and Half Cheese, so instead she had Half Pineapple and Half Cheese, our Pizzas were good...but I wish the Crust was a little bit Crunchy, overall it was good tho, packed for a Friday Night, we got Seated right away, I give this Pizza a 7.8 out of 10, great Service too...our Server Emma did a great job, had so many Tables and such a Hard Worker, definitely going back too, it's a great Local Place to watch all the Sports on T.V. read more

We stopped by Venus while our comforter was being laundered next door and it happened to be a Monday which apparently is 1/2 price pizza day. As a low carb eater that is not something I would usually order but you can't pass up a 1/2 price pizza so the bartender recommended the buffalo chicken pizza and he did not steer us wrong, it was very good. The bartender whos name was Michael went above and beyond to guide us with a recommendation on the pizza and more importantly, when we walked in he wiped down the bar for Covid protocol and I appreciate that extra step. The bar has the plastic dividers up which is another bonus too. I asked for a spicy margarita and Michael made me a very good one. That along with the pizza was perfect. I asked the bartender his name because he was so attentive, again, he could have just been a "regular" bartender who really doesn't care but he did. If you read my other review I just did about the Marshfield laundromat next door, there must be something in the water in Marshfield because Karen from the laundromat and Michael from Venus were the two most helpful people I've met in a long time! And No, I dont know either of them prior to meeting them at their place of work. It was clearly just a good day and I was put in the right place at the right time to meet these people. Ordered GRILLED Buffalo chicken. Received microwaved or boiled chicken with buffalo sauce on it. First time I didn't say anything.. the second time .. I asked if it was in fact grilled because there are no grill marks. They took it back and threw the microwaved/boiled chicken on the grill and then served dry as a bone as all the sauce was gone. The food and prices were good. They advertise the business as on the water and a double outside deck. We went for lunch and were told the top deck was closed so we sat on the lower deck. There is barely an ocean view. The restaurant is across the street from the ocean (Not on the ocean) the view you get is traffic and as I said the ocean is barely visible from the lower deck. The waitress really seemed like this was the last place she wanted to be. Not very quick and not very attentive. Probably wont be back. Hull and Scituate both have great restaurants where you actually have a water view (even Bay Point Inn in Quincy is a much better choice if you want to have a real ocean view. read more

Totally disappointed in my visit. We were there at 4pm. They served us rotten vegies of zucchini and squash. I brought it to the waitress attention and she agreed. The siganature dish of crab stuffed haddock was sour and over cooked, tasted old and smothered in cheese that was slightly melted at best.. The baked potatoes was cold and old . The waitress was slow and our food took forever given the fact there were only a few people there. The window sill were covered in Stickey stuff..like they haven't been cleaned in 5 years. The table were stickey and floors. The napkin holders were covered in dried food. The popcorn bowl was broken and sticky and had hair stuck in the broken cracks. I got some onion pizza here. I think the red onion pizza is better than the white onion pizza. I think they do a better job cutting the red onions. Service was better than expected. Some very helpful servers here. If you're ever in Boston, check out the onion pizza at Haymarket Pizza. It's great, but you have to eat it hot. And never shoplift from the actual Haymarket. Went there on a wednesday and was very happy, came back that friday and was disappointed. I was a server for several years so Im usually understanding, but I have no sympathy if you don't bother to write down my order and then it gets messed up because you forget what I asked for. Didnt get me my water. My side was not what i ordered and steak 99% raw. So i asked for it to be put back on. Now i have to wait even longer. The server brings me a teeny tiny plate of fries to pick at while i wait, the side i originally ordered. The whole thing was frustrating on top of not being listened to. First, let's get the nostalgia out of the way. I started going to Venus 2 back in '73 at the old location where the astronomical tides used to make frequent visits and flood the joint. This severely weakened the floor and there was a pretty massive dip. I used to like sitting in one of the tables next to the dip that were so tilted that the bottles of red pepper and cheese used to slide off. But the beer was cheap and the pizza was spectacular. Now they're at the new location that doesn't have any of the character of the old, but the pizza seems to be exactly the same. They're a typical sports bar with what you'd expect on the menu. Pizza, burgers, sandwiches, and being located a few feet from the ocean, a selection of fried seafood that isn't too bad. There is outdoor seating during the warmer months, and the staff is pretty friendly. But now let's talk about the TVs. I'm deducting a full star for this, and I'd deduct 1.5 if I could. The TVs are the same ones that were installed when the place was built, at least 20 years ago. At that time, a 42" TV was pretty high end, but today, that's what you put in your child's bedroom. Also, the main bar area is a large room surrounded with booths, and the bar in the center. If you're sitting at the bar, the only TVs are on the far wall, which is approximately 35 feet away. Watching a 42" TV that is 35' away is the same as looking at your cell phone at arm's length, if your arms were six feet long. I'm not joking about this. This is NOT the way serious sports fans want to watch TV. So we typically go there for a meal and a couple beers and then go elsewhere if we actually want to watch sports on TV. Fixing the locations and sizes of the TVs would probably be a serious construction undertaking. But there's one thing that they could easily change. All of the TVs are showing some sort of sport tv channel. When there's a local team playing live, that's what you're watching, which is fine. But otherwise, they really should try harder to ensure that actual sports are on the TVs. It seems that every time I go in there, we're watching sports interviews with the sound turned off. Golf on the radio is more exciting than that. High school lacrosse would be more interesting. Find some actual sports and get it on the screens! However, if your intent is NOT to watch a sporting event on TV and just to socialize with the person on the next bar stool, you probably can't beat this place. read more

Went last night for some drinks. I grew up on the South Shore but I've lived more or less in Boston for the last five years, so I know next to nothing about the nightlife in the area. Venus is located right next to the beach, and you can hear the waves from the awesome outside deck they have. It must be beautiful mid-summer. The downstairs level has a huge central bar with great bartenders. They were attentive, friendly, and remembered my name and that I had a tab open after only speaking to me twice. When I opened my tab, they gave my credit card back to me, which I thought was strange. Maybe it's a South Shore thing? I had two Tequila Sunrises for $11 which is fantastic, and the DJ played some amazing reggaeton (I'm a redheaded Latina, we're a rare bread). But UPSTAIRS was a Jimmy Buffet cover band...that's when I had to deduct a star, or two, or three. At least I got a lei out of the deal. Overall I had a good enough time, the people in the bar were fun and I got to dance around and drink the drinks. But I gave Venus two stars because it was a $10 cover. In Marshfield. That's outrageous, I don't even pay that in Boston! So if they lower the price and it's a gorgeous summer day, I would think about stopping by again. read more

Growing up, Venus was one of the best places to get pizza. My mother would take us to Venus II, we would grab a couple pizzas to-go, and then make our way over to the beach. Eating dinner on the beach, and hanging out by the water on a beautiful summer evening was sooo much fun, and made us feel like superstars! My last visit was much different than my childhood memories. My aunt and I came here for the evening, and the pizza was so bad we didn't even eat it. None of the food we had was good, and even the soda was flat. Service even sucked. The staff was run by a bunch of teenagers that wanted to do anything but tend to the customers. I've eaten here many times through the years. In the past, the food and service were just OK. But more recently my husband and I have been back and the food and service have been good! My husband likes the bar pizza (I do too) as well as the fish and chips. I enjoy the buffalo chicken wrap and the fries are really good! I've tried the meatball grinder a couple times but it needs more sauce. We've also had the mozzarella cheese sticks and onion rings. Both were tasty. The menu is pretty big, so sometimes I'm hesitant to try something new because I don't know how they keep so many ingredients fresh? Service has been very good, including being greeted upon entry and the table service itself. Orders come out in a timely fashion and are accurate. The amount of TVs can be a bit distracting. Spent a Saturday at the beach, and walked over to the Venus II afterwards for some grub. Sat outside on the second desk, and caught the some of the sox game. I had a cup a chowder, and it was great. Nice, thick and creamy , with lots of potatoes and diced clams. Had a nice bacon flavor as well, and came with garlic bread! Very similar to the Cabbyshack in plymouth. My tuna sandwich was alright, but the real star was the boyfriend's fired clam plate. Numerous plump bellies, and batter was nice and not too crumbly.
