This review is only for one taco order experience though is be willing to try other things in the menu SERVICE 5/5 When you walk in there are plenty of takeout menus to the right on a table, so I grabbed a menu to take a look at since I wanted to know what to order before waking up to the counter. The owner was very nice and came up to me while I looked at the menu and asked if I needed help or had any questions. I asked if he had any recommendations in terms of tacos and he recommended the shrimp taco. I did note that they had a lot of fish and shrimp options on the menu but I'm allergic to shrimp so I asked him what else he would recommend. He asked what I liked and then recommended the al pastor and said that if I like grilled chicken he could also have it cooked with onion and tomato to add some more moisture and flavor to it so it's not just plain grilled chicken. I asked about the bistec which he also said they offer cooking with onion so it's mixed with grilled onion. He took my order from there and said it would be about 5 minutes. SEATING There were a good number of tables inside that could sit several groups of 4 for families inside and it looked like there was some outdoor seating as well. I took a seat near the counter while waiting for my food. It was 3pm so it was an awkward kind is quiet time to come in. FOOD ~3.6/5 So for the tacos I feel like I could rate individual elements on their own. First, I appreciate that on the side they come with lime, radish slices, and some shredded lettuce. I had guac added to each for an additional 50¢ * GUAC, 4/5 - Solid guac! Had enough salt, was not watery, and had some chunky pieces just how I like it. Could only only be better if it was freshly made but that only really happens when restaurants make it tableside * CORN TORTILLA 3/5 - So I know it's weird to rate the taco tortilla, but I noted that the corn tortillas seemed a little thicker than I'm used to and it might be that maybe they weren't toasted on the griddle like other places, but that felt like it impacted the overall feel of the taco itself ((this seems like an easy fix though!)) * POLLO (grilled chicken) Taco, 3.5/5 - I think you need to take grilled chicken for what it is, just grilled chicken. I usually don't just get a chicken taco unless I'm trying to be healthier (which I am at the moment). I did appreciate that it had the extra onion and little bit of tomato cooked with it though but the guac on top really helped carry it as well as adding lime and the verde sauce they give on the side with it. * AL PASTOR (pork w/ pineapple chunks) 4/5 - definitely more flavorful than the pollo, which is too be expected. I'm glad I saved it for last. The pork was tender versus some places the cook really dry. OVERALL it like other reviews really enjoyed this place for other foods besides their tacos and not for just grilled chicken so I'd definitely be interested in trying other things of the menu! Unfortunately I'm allergic to shrimp and not a big fish person and that seems to be their specialty but I'm come back for some pork dishes!

What got me in the door? They have sopes on their menu!! I opted instead for a huarache and was not disappointed. Great service. They even made husband a version of some gringo tacos that don't exist on their menu. Food was delicious. Sauces were not blow your taste buds off spicy but added good flavor to the dish. There might be 7 tables in the whole place. Not a great spot for large groups but still worth the trip.

    Veracruzana Enchilada

Spicy tomatillo, well-cooked shrimp and great service. Tortilla chips can taste a bit stale at times but wonderful meals.

This place is very nice and clean. The food is excellent and the price is very fair. Definitely a hidden gem in Astoria area.

a menu for a mexican restaurant

Veracruzano is the latest Mexican rendition to inhabit that address. When I went there in November, they offered a standard Mexican menu full of beans, rice, and platters of the usual wrapped flavors. eg, burritos, tortillas and quesadilla. I ended up ordering the chicken quesadilla. The quality is not outstanding, but it is satisfying with reasonably good service. Overall, it was filling but not worth a 2nd visit.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

The birria tacos were really good (or so my son said) but sadly the taquitos were terrible. They literally just had unseasoned shredded chicken (but serves me right for ordering something so basic). The energy was flat, and that lack of enthusiasm carried right into the food. The menu needs a complete overhaul. I'm not sure if it's trying to be "different," but the taco options were unappealing just from reading the descriptions. I managed to choose the two best-sounding items I could find, and honestly, they were so bland I don't even remember what they were. The setup and decor were basic. This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. It feels like just another restaurant that's lost sight of creating an actual experience for guests. The lack of vibe is obvious--if you don't want customers, just say so. I'm giving 2 stars out of respect for the fact that people have to work for a living.

Although I had a reservation, I was instructed to go to the bar. Literally no home at the bar whatsoever. Granted I know Mexican restaurants tend to be super crowded for Cinco de Mayo but I was a party of one. I should have been seated outside at the very least. I had to drink my frozen Patron Margarita standing up until a space at the bar open up after 20-25 minutes. Once seated, my area wasn't properly cleaned. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I reluctantly ordered fish tacos with mild guacamole but was given spicy guacamole. The fish tacos were a little cold. The service was rushed. I left without ordering another drink or more food. I was over it. This place isn't far from my employer so maybe I'll give it another chance on a random weekday.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.
