Over the years I have worked with many different coaches, therapists, etc to better understand myself and whatever challenges I maybe facing at that time. In the months since I've started working w him, David has pointed out "patterns" and behaviors about myself - using my natal astrology chart - that I feel I have never really had anyone "see" and witness in this way before. I never realized, for example the full impact of having my mars in aries in the 12th house. Whoah.... The 12th house represents the collective unconscious.... Aries is the fiery starter. Now it makes sense why I do such a good job looking after others needs but have had to work really hard to look after my own in certain areas of my life. It is high in price but these are super rare trees that need EXPENSIVE permits and the permitting process got lots worse and more limiting this year. The second wave of silver tips never came this year. I usually wait around on the sidelines to get them - these trees grow only at 6,000 feet and some years they get snowed in. Still, today if you want a 11+ foot tall tree that is silver tip - I think this is your only option. There is one more on Park St Alameda and another on Solano Ave in I think Albany - but they all have lower inventory of the tallest and nicest and most expensive. The best it just good enough for me when it comes to Christmas trees. This year it has become a careful chess game with the low inventory, the blizzard situations in the mountains and the new more limiting and expensive permitting process. Yes, I lurk around these tree farms and kick tires and take mental notes about what's going on. And I can guarantee if you have a hotel lobby or a beautiful home with vaulted ceilings and you want the tree to go all the way to the ceiling - this is your best bet.

We tasted alot more including their honey which was great! The farmer was funny, engaging and so knowledgeable too! They sell plants and dried herbs and honey along with veggies and other things. We bought a few things and some plants and had a great chat with the kind farm owner. She is just amazing and knew everything about everything on the farm! Highly recommend! Their summer fruits (cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums, apriums, plouts, plumcots, etc) are phenomenal and in recent years the farm has expanded to include more fall and winter fruits (persimmons, pomegranates, citrus, etc.) They also dry their fruit so that you can still enjoy a peach or nectarine in the fall and winter (the dried persimmons they have in the winter are fantastic!) Having Verana be part of our birth experience was the single best decision my partner and I made in bringing our baby into the world. From the moment we met with Verana, we knew she was the right doula for us. We met with a few other doulas in the process, and while everyone else seemed pleasant, we were immediately drawn to Verana's calm and loving spirit. Throughout our pregnancy, Verana visited with us, carefully helped to create and revise our birth plan, showed us massage techniques, guided us through using a robozo, and allowed us space to explore all options of birthing with comforting words. Additionally, she was ever ready to answer any random questions a new mommy-to-be had over email, text, or phone call. Even before the birth, she also helped to prepare us for what we need for postpartum recovery. The day of our birth, she came to my apartment in the early hours of the morning (2AM!) to guide me through intense back labor and then went with us to the hospital and remained by my side until I gave birth at 7pm. She was loving throughout the labor, helping me through all the difficult contractions, and supporting my partner through it. She was incredible - and she did it with an ever ready smile, a hug, comforting songs, empowering words, and a squeeze of the hand to let me know everything would be OK and that we would deliver our baby safely. Once our baby was born, Verana was there checking up on us - even bringing us food to nourish the tired new parents! It was also amazing to have her visit a few times in the weeks after birth. She gifted me with lactation tea and came full of wonderful advice and more comforting and empowering words. Thank you, Verana! You are such a blessing to us. We had a great experience with Verana. I wanted unmedicated birth (if possible) and looking back I don't think we would be able to achieve this without her. The prenatal meetings with her were a great way to get to know each other, discuss what might be helpful for us during labor, get links to relevant resources and get all our questions answered. She was checking in with us frequently close to our due date about how things are going and how we were feeling. When labor started, we called with her few times and at some point wanted her to come over to our house for more support. Afterwards we didn't have to worry about timing contractions or thinking about when to head out, she communicated with the midwife and decided when is the right time to head out to the birth center. We also really enjoyed the postpartum appointment, being able to chat about my birth experience and discuss some of our postpartum questions and struggles. Overall we felt extremely supported and cared for. Verana was very present and fully focused on us, she always knew during labor what what might help - whether it was just talking to me, touch, or other exercise to help get things moving. She is a person who clearly enjoy what she does and can connect with the family on a very deep level to provide good support throughout this transformational experience. read more

Verana was a fantastic doula and essential to the success of our birth. She was intuitive, strong, calm, joyful and fully present. Prenatally I new I didn't need a lot of education or help making a birth plan as a midwife myself, but she did an excellent job helping me think about how I like to be supported, my strengths, and how to support my partner. She really helped us to think about particulars for our situation--how to prepare our toddler, how to help me stay out of my head, etc. During my birth she was exceptional. She did an amazing job of managing keeping our midwife very updated on how labor was going to help her come at the right time, while continuously physically supporting me for hours, and helping my partner coordinating childcare in the middle of the night. She balanced this all perfectly. She did an incredible job holding the space for my labor to unfold undisturbed, it was profound. Whether or not it's the placebo effect, it seems like there's a noticeable, positive difference with my overall energy levels, emotional balance, and my milk supply. To test their efficacy I'd stop taking the pills, and would soon notice more challenging emotional waves -- I was so grateful I could pop a few capsules and rapidly notice a stabilization! Working with Brigette for my birth doula and placenta encapsulation was a great experience…read more Brigette, and Vanessa Norton who she teamed up with last summer, were the doulas for the birth of my daughter this past July. During our pre-birth meetings, Brigette was warm, responsive, and gave my partner and me a sense that she would be a competent, caring, and strong advocate. On the week of my daughter's birth, the City of SF experienced a record birth boom. What this meant for us was that Brigette was in back-to-back births. As soon as I told her my water broke, she arranged for a back-up for us in case the birth in which she was participating didn't finish by the time I was in active labor. It didn't and we went with her back up doula. We stayed in contact throughout the day until I went into active labor. The Universe has a way of giving me what and who I need at the right time, and this was no exception. Even though Brigette had been in 20+ hours of labor and deliveries, she came to my hospital room right after I delivered my daughter. Can you imagine? We hugged and cheered and introduced Brigette to our miracle - it felt as if in a way she'd been there for the birth. Brigette also took my placenta home with her and encapsulated it. Seeing my placenta post-delivery was nauseating, so I was grateful that Brigette was encapsulating it rather than me try to DIY prepare it. The encapsulation process was easy. A couple days later, Brigette came by and visited with us. She gave me the encapsulations and directions on how to use them. Everything was straightforward and simple, which as an exhausted, new mom, was a big help. I highly recommend partnering with Brigette for your birth!

My wife Gwen wrote this review but it speaks to how we both felt!…read more I can't imagine not having Brigette at my (first) birth and postpartum - throughout the process she was a breath of fresh air and allowed me to stay calm and even maintain my sense of humor when things got tough. I joke with her that I can't wait to get pregnant again so she can support me for round two - although I'm going to give my body some buffer time ;) haha. I planned a homebirth, but hired Brigette because I knew she'd be an incredible advocate for me whether I gave birth at home or had to transfer to hospital. She was recommended by our midwife Kara Englebrecht, and I was so grateful that Kara pointed us to her. From our first meeting Brigette was down to earth with a warm and openhearted energy. She made me feel calm and confident - helped me feel empowered about the fact that I was the one giving birth and she was there to support and guide as needed. During my labor she was extremely intuitive. She was great at providing counter pressure on my hips during labor sensations and read my body for what I needed. Most of the time what I needed was to bury my head in her neck during contractions so I could breath through them - she felt like a sister to me, which is incredible when I step back and think that we hadn't spent *that* much time together - but it speaks to how quickly I grew to trust her. When I was pushing, I was concentrating on her bangs, blowing air towards them to focus and she read my mind and made sure to stay close so I could continue to focus that way (strange I know, but it helped, and best part was I didn't have to ask/tell her to stay still - she just knew what to do!). She also encapsulated my placenta and supported our family postpartum. She showed me how to be an excellent burper, and helped me spread my momma wings with little tips and tricks to grow my confidence. I'm *so* glad we got to continue working with her as our postpartum doula - she was so helpful and efficient it was almost difficult for me and my husband to think up additional to-do tasks. But mostly, she was a warm familiar face that helped me exhale and feel at ease in those challenging first couple of weeks. I'd recommend her 100x over, can't imagine it any other way. FYI: I was able to use my FSA health savings account to use pre-tax dollars to pay for her birth doula services. It's an eligible expense ("Birth Coach"), I had my OB fill out a short form (Letter of Medical Necessity) that I got from the FSA website, and attached it to the reimbursement request. I think hiring a doula is worth every penny, but helpful tip to get a "discount" by using pre-tax dollars!

She is highly organized and very responsive. I also loved the online mom support groups with different topics covered each week - these were so helpful! For the doula services, Alana was wonderful. She is very laid back and easy to talk to while also being super knowledgable and attentive. I wasn't sure if I was going to try to have a natural birth or get an epidural and I felt like Alana was ready to support me no matter what option I wound up choosing. Also, my husband tends to be very anxious around any medical or hospital setting so we weren't sure if he would be able to be with me for all of labor and delivery. Our meeting before birth was great because Alana was able to listen to his concerns and talk him through what L&D would be like so he wouldn't be so nervous. We only wound up being able to have one pre-birth meeting because my baby decided to show up 6.5 weeks early! Thankfully, Alana was able to meet us at the hospital within an hour of my husband calling her (around 3am??). My labor proceeded very quickly and we were both overwhelmed because we had not anticipated having our baby that early. Alana remained a calm and consistent presence throughout my labor and for a while after delivery after they took my baby to the NICU. She was also able to ask the nurses and doctors questions we had completely forgotten to ask and kept us up to date with everything that was happening. My husband wound up being able to stay for most of L&D and I think a lot of that has to do with Alana being there - we both felt fully supported the entire time. We had three post-partum sessions with Alana and they were also incredibly helpful. I would definitely recommend her to others and would love to work with her again if we wind up having another baby (hopefully closer to my due date next time, hehe)!

She seems to know things well, no concerns there, but we were a bit put off by the very commercial set up, ie, the initial consultation had a charge while all the other doulas were ok to do a free into over video. Then we got cut off because the initial intro appointment was so time limited (I think it was 15 minutes if I recall). Her regular emails are helpful, but we ended up not hiring her just because it seemed so money driven (her prices are on the high end, which looking at the reviews does seem to be somewhat justified).

We loved that she was supportive, non-judgemental, and incredibly knowledgeable. Given my gestational diabetes diagnosis, I was advised to get induced at 39 weeks. That plan wasn't aligned with our desire to have an intervention-free unmedicated vaginal birth but with Caitlyn's guidance, we made step by step choices that aligned with our birth preferences and made us feel empowered. With the new quarantine restrictions, Caitlyn wasn't able to join us at UCSF but that didn't stop her from being involved in our birth. She made herself available on the phone/text and she coached me through Facetime during the active parts of labor and pushing. We were surprised how connected we felt even through her virtual presence. We're so thankful that she was on call every step of the way, getting us to a place where we can look back and feel really proud of the decisions we made. We really cannot recommend Caitlyn enough!

Caitlyn was very responsive when we reached out to GGDG and upon meeting her we loved her medical background and military experience. She fit the "vibe" we were comfortable with. She educated us so much on the process and answered any and every question we had. She has a sweet sense of humor and put us right at ease! While I had grand plans to labor at home before going to the hospital, Baby Boy had no plans to come out on anyone else's schedule, so I was unfortunately induced. It was a slow burn! I became very frustrated and discouraged with how long everything was taking and Caitlyn talked me off the figurative ledge several times. Our main goal was to avoid a C-section and we did! She coached me for (literally) days on pain management and using gravity and movement to our advantage to get baby into place for birth. She was also extremely professional around the hospital staff and never stepped on toes. She took beautiful, tasteful photos of the labor process and of our newborn boy that we will treasure forever. I know without a shadow of a doubt that without Caitlyn, I would have had a long(er), frustrating labor that would have likely ended in an unnecessary c-section. She was a lifesaver! In summary, book a doula! Book through GGDG! Book Caitlyn specifically!

She was always available for questions and has extensive knowledge from her hundreds of clients as well as her own 6 birth experiences. The night I went into labor, she came over and walked my husband and me through exercises to speed up contractions. During delivery she kept me comfortable, worked seamlessly with the L&D nurse, followed the birth plan we made together, and always had the perfect words of encouragement. She was also a wonderful support to my husband and mom. After birth, when we were ready to give my daughter her first bath, Kirsten came over and walked us through the process, offering additional guidance and advice around sleep and breastfeeding. Kirsten really knows her stuff and loves what she does. Seriously, work with her. Kirsten is an amazing doula and very special human!

Each relationship is a combination and this wasn't the right one for me. I should have said something early on as I knew it right after our first meeting. I feared having to deal with contractual bindings and didn't have the energy to. I hoped for the best when it became "showtime" during labor. It didn't change, it actually got worse. I originally liked Kirsten b/c she seemed compelling when she spoke. Quick. Which I thought would be a positive for a couple of reasons: -to be efficient with time given with my career responsibilities, I do not have much to give -I thought the pace would do a good job at keeping my attention How that formed up was: During our call to come up with a birth plan, Kirsten spoke so quickly and consistently we felt as though we couldn't get much of a word in. She also interrupted us multiple times. She seemed impatient. The insight she was sharing with questions we asked seemed boiler plate and lacking much depth. Or avoidant all together. I felt I was finding and receiving much more thorough information elsewhere on my own. I thought she was supposed to create a more personal rapport with me/us. Then help us really hone in to answers that were right for us. It seemed early on like she was just trying to check her deliverables boxes. My pregnancy was uncomplicated, therefore I didn't have much to share with her post pre natal appts etc... However, as the due date got closer, we could have used more attentiveness. As I mentioned, her style felt so impersonal that my motivation to reach out to her waned. It was more of a disapointment than an uplift. It felt like an easy paycheck grab. Our second mtg of her allotted services (the in-person one) she also seemed a little impatient and checked out. She was stopping to text with her kids during. The hour visit seemed to lend us again more of a machine gun style of "help" and pointers. Without great direction or clarity. In the meantime I was working with a prenatal bodyworker and midwife whom was a glaring counterpoint to the different styles of supporting someone during pregnancy. Patient & attuned to the person, not seemingly seeing them as a to-do list without really connecting. Fast forward to the weeks before the due date, the bodyworker/midwife could tell our baby was posterior or sunny side up. She was recommending certain exercises to do. Kirsten sent quick responses to any questions I asked that seemed like copy and paste answers. The lack of personal connection made this feel like a waste of time. My interest was already low, yet I tried to stay the course vs. say we don't need your services at all. (on a side note, there should be something said very clearly up front that if it doesn't feel like the right fit... even after contract signing and deposits paid that the mother and client should feel 100% welcome to say so and stop services without further payment - this would have created a safe environment vs. more stress in a time that can be draining enough). When it got closer to the date, and we went in to the hospital Kirsten sent a substitute b/c she had a personal event to attend. The substitute was, from the onset, seemingly more attuned to me (vs seeing me as a task). I responded much more openly to this and it was a pleasure to work with her. My labor process was just over a cpl of days w/ some stops & starts. Kirsten seemed to be either absent (w/ her replacement there for a portion of) or too late. If she were more connected I think she would have known to work on the posterior likelihood much earlier. I also wanted to ask for her substitute to come back instead, but I feared the bad energy that could bring to an already lack luster exchange...and my partner talked me out of it in the end. I found I lost respect for her and did not want to listen when she did make some effort. Her tone was again lacking personal touch. She sat on her phone and droned from across the room good job, you're so strong on repeat for a while. That sums up how I felt the service was performed for me. It seems she is a great fit for many, I am very happy for those mothers. I believe it is clear, she was not for me. I debated saying anything here for 5 mo. If nothing else, I wanted to advocate for the ability to get out of the contract if you start feeling the fit isn't for you. I think this should be offered up verbally and clearly by Kirsten at the onset of the relationship. I skimmed the contract and believe I saw binding language. I was pregnant, still running my business & drained. I did not however go back in and dissect it to see if I could get out of it. I avoided the confrontation thinking it would bring more bad feelings to our sacred space vs. help. I hoped for the best when it became show time. The best it was not.
