Wonderful soft huge cookies like I had before the chocolate dipped peanut butter was delicious on the dipped end and really only had a faint taste of pb but was still a great soft yet chewy texture. A Parma staple that's been here for years. I went on RSD and they had themed pierogis and strudel for the occasion. We tried the Taylor Swift pierogi (cheeseburger), a dessert pierogi and another potato and sage filled. They were all to die for. Very fun and festive environment on Paczki day! I arrived around 9:40 PM and the line was two hours.....but don't fret- there is plenty of entertainment and the staff brings you beer and pastries and kielbasa to enjoy while you are waiting. Lots of polka music, dancing, and a very festive environment. I've been to Mobile for Fat Tuesday celebrations and what we do in northeast Ohio is so very different and unique in its own right.....I'm not sure that one is better than the other. Just different. And frankly I like paczikis better than king cakes. (Don't tell my New Orleans friends that!) I hadn't planned on being at Rudy's that long and I don't know if I would do it again on this particular day, but I would go back on a regular day to purchase their baked goods. 100%. The "pounch-Kees" were delicious and I brought some to my parents too. They especially loved the savory one with the sauerkraut and sausage. The sweet ones were all good and I especially loved the Porco hurricane flavor. The Malley's one was good, but it was very rich. I could only eat small bites at a time. Rudy's is an excellent find! I just moved here from Chicago and I've actuallly heard of Rudy's before I moved! Ridge Road in Parma is a tough place to drive through, you've got a string of really great pastry shops/bakeries. Rudy's certainly sets the standard along with Colozza's. But they both have their specialties. Here's why: Their signature strudel pastry is light and flaky but still very tastey. It's rolled thin and the filling is good. I had the cherry strudel and it was tart, but not too tart. They choose to top it with a dusting of powdered sugar. The flavors of the pastry and filling are beautifully balanced. On a whim, I puchased the last piece of their coffee cake. I ate it as I was driving home, and it was so good, I turned around before I got to 480 and bought another one! Granted, they were out so I purchased a rasberry danish instead. They don't skimp on the toppings of nuts, fruit, cheese, or sugar drizzle. Both were extremely moist and every bite provided the full experience of flavor of each of the ingredients. They weren't crowded at the center or poorly distributed. This is an old world bakery that deserves to thrive for generations to come to be sure! read more

Recently moved to the area and I saw the collaboration with Malley's chocolates that made my wife and I really want to try Rudy's out. I first stopped over on Tuesday of last week and waited in line about 20mins to submit a pre-order form for Friday. I would have submitted online but they didn't have an electronic form to submit or even over the phone but I couldn't get through. I work about 20mins away, so I drove over during my lunch. Friday came along, which seems like the day everyone wanted to pick up or had placed pre-orders for. Factoring in the 40min round trip and 1.5 hour wait, it was very late to return to work as I only get an hour lunch. Unfortunately, after work was not an option. I marked down a star for service because the amount of people wasn't better managed with a different system than 2 registers and packing as people placed new orders in. Pre-orders I expected to be able to grab, pay, and go. But service outside of the wait was extremely polite and friendly. When it comes to the food, they absolutely nailed it! The paczkis were extremely fresh and soft. The fillings were also super fresh. My wife's favorite was the Boston Crème. I loved the Malley's chocolate toffee. We also got one filled with sausage and peppers. And I lastly got a strawberry bar. Very fresh and excellent tasting baked goods. Would I go back? Yes! First let me say that I have been a fan of Rudy's for many years now. I have especially enjoyed their paczki. I noticed that they were beginning to sell them before Lent this year, so I went about 2 weeks before Fat Tuesday and ordered half a dozen. When I got home, I was very disappointed. The outsides were hard. On the inside, the dough was dry and there was only a small amount of filling in each. Also, I always get a custard filled paczki, as I did this time. Unfortunately, the custard had an on off sour taste, so it was going bad. Obviously, all of these were not made that day but still sold as fresh. After this experience I did not go to Rudy's for my paczki this year but tried 2 other bakeries. Both bakeries had absolutely wonderful fresh paczki filled with fresh and tasty fillings. Yummy & delicious paczki! This popular bakery in the Cleveland area offers unique paczki flavors that I hadn't seen before. Tried a coconut one and it was really good. The shell was fresh, had a good taste and a fantastic filling! Can't review the other flavors I purchased cause the family found these delicacies as soon as I got home. Let's just say the box of paczki is empty, and there are happy bellies in my home. Really strudel is truly a hidden gem in Parma. Although the shop looks unassuming, they make some of the best baked goods I've eaten. The were also very friendly, and patient when I didn't know exactly what I wanted. I ended up landing on a pastry and a poppyseed roll, both of which were phenomenal. The pastry (similar to a danish) I ordered was delicious; I think they used cinnamon in their bread, which gave it that perfect extra something. And the poppyseed roll was sweet, filling, and had the perfect amount of moisture--it didn't dry out in five days, and it and made me look forward to breakfast every day. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more! I would absolutely recommend stopping by or making a trip if you like bakeries! read more

I got banned from the store for not complimenting the owner on a cake. I went to Rudy's strudel and the owner was walking out with a cake and stood in the doorway and said compliment my cake, I said I really don't care about the cake I just want to go in. She said not until you compliment my cake. It was raining so I said I want to come in so I walked around her to get out of the rain. I picked up my pastries and paid for them, then the owner came over and told me she appreciate if I didn't come back to her store anymore. It's pretty sad that she has to be praised on everything, she must have very low self-esteem. She was very rude and I feel sorry for the employees that have to work for her. It's sad these people get so high on themselves and have to put down their customers. It's her loss. I would recommend going to Colozza's bakery instead, their personnel are much nicer. The landing on their homepage reads "the destination for paczki, pierogi and Polka Power". And that's super accurate. They have 3 strudel's: apple, cherry and cheese. (Which is not a lot of flavors compared to other local purveyors) BUT, they also have 6 flavors of pierogi, and an assortment of amazing breads, crispy cookies and poppyseed roll. The pierogis cook up great and don't break in the pan. So flavorful. The cookies are crisp and buttery. The breads are light and fluffy. If they were called "Rudy's Slavic Bakery" or "Rudy's Slavic Foods", I'd give them 5 stars all day every day, but Strudel is not the star here. Don't misunderstand me, you need to go! The breads and pastries and pierogi are soooo good. Can't wait to return. read more

Perhaps Parma People Prefer Pierogies?! That's five Ps I learned by growing up in Cleveland with an Eastern European background. I'm sure there's no less than 20 to 30 places to get pierogies around Cleveland, but some of the best can be found at Rudy's. I was happy that I was able to bring back a few packages when I visited a few months ago! When I arrived back after the flight, my plan was to eat them as soon as possible. They held up very well so I sautéed them with garlic, cracked pepper, onion, salt, and of course butter. I may be a simple man as my favorite are the cheese and potato. However, I know Rudy's has more varieties to carry out and take home. A friend of ours grew up ion Cleveland and asked his mother where we should buy pierogies to bring back to SF. She said to go here, and I am all about a little Polish lady recommending her favorite. We took the 20 min drive to Parma to get them. I wasn't sure it was open b/c the parking lot was empty. We got a very enthusiastic counter guy. He let us buy a few single Kolaski's (normally but the pound), and we got a cheese strudel (YUM, but really best on the 1st day). The nut strudel look tremendous , but it was our last day and there was no way we could polish it off, and it would have been troublesome to carry back. -- Next time! Then we got 2 kinds of pierogies to go, the cheese and onion (classic) and Lebron James favorite (broccoli, chicken, cheese). This place is very friendly, and once again like many places in the area please don't expect the paczkis like you see in many photos for this place unless they're in season. They don't do doughnuts otherwise (at least not that I've seen). While their display case is about a fourth the size of local bakeries, they have so so many different types of brownies, cookies, and pastries -- probably more than some in the area. However, the downside is that unlike other bakeries they don't label any of their items, so the five different types of brownies look the same and you have to constantly ask what everything is. So while the treats are good it takes awhile to figure out what you want unless you have a go-to. I would say the cookies were okay but were closer to being average but try some of the cakes or brownies. And their paczkis when in season. read more

Excellent bakery! The people who work here are always super friendly even during lent when it is really busy. They have really good sandwiches also. I highly recommend " The Polish Village ". The will even heat it up for you if you ask. Original shop was on 44th and Woodbridge because I grew up on 44th and 41st on Woodbridge and would steal change from the bottom of my moms purse to sneak to go there. It was at the end of our street. It may have moved to 48th and storer I have no idea but original store was 44th. When I was around 9 or 10. I am now 66. That being said the new shop in Parma has kept the traditions of Rudy's strudels, nut rolls and bakery to perfection. Kudos. read more
