The barista here is truly the champion. It's been so busy all afternoon and he's alone but KILLING it. Efficient and kind and getting everything done - very impressive. The pumpkin spice was decent - not too sweet or super unique but I enjoyed it. This pumpkin chocolate chip muffin was calling my name and I have no regrets. Decided to check out this coffee shop because I had zero energy today and I needed some caffeine in my body. Ordered their iced soy matcha latte with a splash of vanilla (less ice). It is really good because it really boosted my energy. But it also left me with a bad stomachache. I'm not sure what it is... I cane here on a coffee date with my friend. She recommended this place to me and I was very excited to try it. It's a very small coffee shop with a nice seating area. They have the normal coffee options but they also had a seasonal menu. I saw a Nutella latte among other holiday drinks. I wanted to try it, but I just went with a matcha latte instead. Ran out of fresh roasted coffee at home and my next bag was delayed due to the holidays so I needed more coffee. Found this place close by. They roast their coffee fresh in house. You buy a bag and they'll even grind it for you! Plus you get a free drink. It's 14 bucks which actually really good for fresh roasted coffee. You'll taste the difference right always. The coffee? It's really good and you'll never want Starbucks let alone any coffee you buy in a store! read more

I really wanted to like this place.. but the coffee itself was terrible. I thought the barista mistakenly made my caramel macchiato wrong, they re-made it, and it still had this strange taste to it.. Not to mention 3 other to-go customers came back to have their drinks re made in a short period of time. I like the natural lighting and ambiance but.... You know that feeling when you finally found a coffee shop that's less than 5 minutes from your home and makes great coffee plus it's independently owned? That is how I felt when I first entered Verbena Coffee while still in the soft opening mode a few months back. Initially their hours were only 7AM to 3PM but that's not the case anymore and that's great because sometimes I need that pick-me-up after 3PM. Verbena Coffee is a great cozy coffee shop in that strip mall at the corner of Kirkwood and Memorial. The interior decor gives that rustic wooden feel as one side of the wall is just planks of wood put together and the lights are standard Edison bulbs with wooden geometric shapes. There's plenty of outlets for people to use and of course there's free WiFi there as well. But even with all that, it's all about the coffee. First, the price is unbelievably great for a small coffee shop. Second, Verbena Coffee does make great coffee there. I know I'm not the only one but I would get my breakfast at the donut shop next door and then get my coffee from Verbena Coffee to-go as let's face it, the donut shop's coffee can not be compared to here. Speaking of their coffee, their selection has all the basics and that's pretty much it. They keep it simple so they are ensured to make some of the best they can every day for a consistent quality. From all the times I have been there, I can see the business is picking up with people staying there to study, to discuss business, or simply just neighbors and friends catching up with each other over a cup of Joe. I am happy to have another great coffee shop in this west Houston. I will certainly be coming here as this has now deem as my favorite local coffee place in my heart. read more

This place is super cute. They have great selections for food and drinks and I love that they provide a menu for fun drinks because I have no idea how to order good coffee outside of drip/pain. The coffee and snacks are also very tasty. I've been here twice and each time had rude baristas. Not just to me. I stayed for a bit and they were sour to everyone that came in. The last time I went they filled my cup just over half way (exactly as pictured). I kept waiting for my coffee. I love Verbena Coffee! We got an iced oat milk vanilla latte and a hot chai tea latte with oat milk. It's great that they have so many options for milk to accommodate us non-dairy people. Not only are the drinks amazing, the inside is super chic and comfy. They had couches, tables and high top bar seating so perfect to hang with friends or be productive on your laptop. I've been on a search for a coffee place in Houston that actually has a strong, rich coffee taste (imagine just drip coffee and a little bit of condense milk) and was hoping this will put an end to the search. The barrista suggested a flat white when I told her what I like and I went with it. I do want to say that this drink actually tastes like coffee instead of one of those trendy flavors some places offer. However, it's still not rich enough for my taste. My mom got a cappuccino. This place has been on my list to try for months now but I'm never in this neighborhood! So happy I was finally able to stop by! It happened to be their one year anniversary; so exciting! The interior is super cute with geometric patterns, plants, and modern decor. I decided to try a new coffee spot and this place is definitely worth returning to! I walked in and they had a very cute set up with a couch and some cozy chairs. They have a full drink menu and some sides snacks and sweets and they have multiple flavors to choose from for your coffee and tea needs. Verbena Coffee was amazing and I loved that they were taking the precautions to ensure that their customers were being kept safe during these times, and had limited seating and hand sanitizer out AND their employees had masks! Great coffee with a lot of variety without being overwhelming to someone who is always indecisive. They also have a lot of different type of seating options: Small tables, counters, couch, or a single ergonomic chair. Nice quiet place to get some work, meet friends, or have a casual business meeting. I had a flat white with oat milk and winter spice house made syrup. The winter spice house made syrup is made from one of their spiced roobios tea. It gave my flat white a subtle spiced complexity. I enjoyed it a lot. They have a lot of different milk alternatives. The seasonal syrups they have are house made. They have a variety of tea and coffee drinks. The barista were friendly and remembers all of theirs regulars. They are interactive with their customers from the moment they walked in to the moment they left. I also overheard one of the barista mention a discount for people who work nearby. Although they were super sweet to everyone else and they were never rude to me, I didn't feel like I experienced the same hospitality as the other customers which is off putting. I wasn't greeted the same, no one asked me how my drink was, no one said bye, and no one asked me if I worked nearby to get a discount (which I did). This was my first time here and this review is based on one experience. My flat white was amazing and it is very close to my work place. I love the aesthetic and vibes. I ordered an iced oat milk latte with lavender syrup and it was very lackluster. I wanted more coffee flavor but the flavors seemed off and it didn't taste good. It tasted like watered down, slightly on the edge of burnt coffee grounds. The lavender flavor was prominent but I've had much better elsewhere. I don't really see myself coming back since I've expected much better. However, the aesthetic and shop is very clean!
