Outside Verbena, Free Spirited Shoppe -- 10 July 2024 (Wed.)
    Agnes I.

WOMAN OWNED BUSINESS!! I finally got to try a drink at Verbena Free Spirited Shoppe. I visited on 10 July right at 9am when they opened since I had the day off work. They just celebrated their one year anniversary as they officially opened in July 2023. SERVICE -- Friendly and quick. The lovely Amanda was the employee who greeted me and explained the menu to me FOOD/DRINKS -- I bought the overnight oats ($5) which is rolled oats and chia seeds, tahini, and oatmilk with Ghia crunchy chocolate hazelnut topping. This was really tasty and a healthy option. It did have a little too much hazelnut topping on it though. For drinks , I was deciding between the Lavender Haze (Remix), Earth Day Matcha, and Cin Cin. I decided on the Cin Cin which is made with Seedlip Spice (Non-Alcoholic Spirit), spiced coffee syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and Coca-Cola ($9). This drink was sooooo refreshingly good. I don't drink or like coffee but I could barely taste the coffee flavour in this drink. I tasted mostly cardamon from the Seedlip Spice and I tasted the sweetness of the condensed milk. I will absolutely get this drink again and I recommend it if you like a sweet drink. LOCATION -- They are located where Cleveland Tea Revival (CTR) used to be and they now sell Cleveland Tea Revival's teas plus they still have a few of CTR's menu items including the CTR Signature Rice Bowl and the veggie sandwich. Before I left, Molly the owner entered so it was nice to see her again. I recommend Verbena to everyone. I'll definitely be back and I'll update my review accordingly but for now, a 4/5 stars is fair. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 63/150 total reviews in 2024 - 713 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 10 July 2024

    CTR Signature Rice Bowl

Walking around Hingetown, I encountered Verbena Shoppe, Cafe & Dry Bar, a brick and mortar café, retail shop, and bar -- the first non-alcoholic gathering space in Cleveland. I ordered for takeaway: - Sushi Bowl: Sushi rice with avocado, soft-boiled egg, carrots, cucumber, furikake, pickled ginger and vegan spicy mayo - CTR Signature Rice Bowl: Sushi rice with ginger carrot slaw, spicy kale, soft-boiled egg*, romaine, cabbage slaw, sesame seed & matcha miso dressing - Sea Salt Peanut Butter Cookie - Ube Brownie with Sea Salt As they prepared my bowls I was able to have a seat in this comfy little cafe. The shelves have teas and non-alcoholic beverages. For those who want or need a lifestyle sans alcohol, there are many options here. We enjoyed our bowls with the bright colorful and crunchy vegs and astringent flavors. The only drawback is that there was way too much rice (some might consider that a good thing). The ube brownie was purple but the ube flavor was very subtle. Otherwise it was moist, chewy and sweet.

Incredible. I have been on the hunt in downtown Cleveland and surrounding areas to find some of the best matcha recommendations for my traveling friends and Verbena has taken the top spot. Watching the care and speciality that goes into their matcha latte, blending each ingredient separately and carefully made such a special yet delicious experience. This was the strawberry special on their menu and it certainly did not disappoint. Verbena is a place that has kind service with an atmosphere that welcomes you to relax and enjoy your morning rather than a quick stop on the go. Please give this place a try if you can spare some me-time for a beautiful and delicious matcha or bite! Gluten free avocado toast with a little garlic spread goes incredibly well together for a light bite

My boyfriend and I have gotten takeout from here a few times and the employees we interact with are always so nice! I have a severe food allergy. Not only are they super accomodating- they make it look easy. When I picked up our sandwiches last weekend, they were out of something that normally comes on my boyfriend's sandwich and suggested a substitution that he really appreciated. When I left the restaurant, I walked past a back patio that seemed calm and inviting. Maybe next time we get food from Verbena, we'll try the patio! Of course, there's the delicious food too. Healthy, delicious, and FILLING (without making you feel too stuffed/bloated). Boyfriend and I have both been incredibly satisfied every time we've gotten something from Verbena.

Have been meaning to try this place and was finally able to go recently. It's located near a bunch of other restaurants, and the inside is really cute with a smaller amount of seating. I had the Chai Espresso Martini (with no spirits of course) and found it very tasty. Our group ordered some food as well -- the cheese board and olives -- and enjoyed that as well. They were out of the usual bread, but the staff was very nice in asking us our preference for replacements. The drinks and snacks were great -- looking forward to going back to try more!

I have been anxiously awaiting Verbena to open. We visited on a Friday afternoon, so we were able to try their day menu. The La Verbena was cool and refreshing. I would absolutely order it again, except I am guessing when I go back I will want to try something new. My son had an iced London Fog and said it was delicious as well. It was not as sweet as he is used to. The staff was friendly and service was great. La Verbena has a small food menu small to go with their drink options, as well as a retail area to buy the spirits. This is great for recreating the drinks at home. They have a very comfortable dining area and a cute outdoor patio. The outdoor patio is connected to the establishment next door. It appeared you could enter the building from the front or the back. I loved the location. We visit Hingetown often and will be returning to Verbena.

Great spot in Hingetown to grab a zero-proof cocktails & apps!! Popped in for a tarot night they had and the mocktails were AMAZING! I was eyeing their appetizer menu but figured I would be back soon to try them out. Lots of free off street parking offered! So excited to come back and try more drinks!

I am not a drinker. So when the opportunity came up to visit this place. I was ecstatic. They have everything a non drinker could want. All while feeling like they can be in a social environment. I had time to talk to the owner. Who was very pleasant. Always had a smile. She explained her vision and I was very happy to sit and listen. I for sure will be back. And look forward to it as well.

The cheese board made me feel like I was in the south of France. Spanish goat cheese, reggiano cow's milk cheese, and toasted baguette with cherry amaretto jam. I had a lavenderhaze and kava lemon cello. My mom had a 8 of wands which she described as a spicy autumn's night with a good sweet and bitter balance. Atmosphere is bright and location is filled with young indie folk and fresh flowers. They have an outdoor seating area that's giving French Monastery! You can watch as assortment of dogs pass by through the comfy bench window seating. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a nonalcoholic bar experience.

I had never had Yemeni coffee before so I asked the barista for suggestions. Based on the fact that I wanted to also try one of their beautiful milk cakes (like a tres leches), I opted for the Mufawar coffee since he said it was less sweet and a bestseller. It was served on an adorable bamboo tray, piping hot and very strong! It had a unique flavor and paired well with my saffron milk cake. Yes...I said saffron. I was very hesitant to try this after he described saffron to me, so I actually got both saffron and biscoff milk cakes. Wow, this man knew his stuff! The saffron milk cake was absolutely scrumptious!!! And who doesn't love a biscoff cookie?! I had to take that one to go. I hope to return to Cleveland soon so I can try the pistachio latte (a sweeter coffee) and possibly a different flavor of milk cake. The coffee shop was quite large, bright, and tastefully decorated with lots of gold accents. I loved my experience there!

I'm so glad she did, because it was delicious. It tasted like an actual PB&J sandwich, but still had a coffee-forward overall flavor; very hard to put into words, but definitely a winner. They use real peanut butter as part of the latte, along with two shots of espresso that had me bouncing off the walls later. I tried both the Promised Land Latte (cinnamon and honey) and the seasonal special Cowboy Cold Brew (cold brew with milk and sarsaparilla syrup). The Promised Land Latte was good, not too sweet, a little thin on the mouthfeel but overall good flavor. The Cowboy Cold Brew was such a treat: a combination I have never tried, but it worked surprisingly well. It was like a root beer and a cold brew were mixed together for a refreshing drink with very familiar yet unique flavor. It was also such a treat when I turned the cup around and saw the "yeehaw" written on it :-) I also tried the everything bagel with honey brie walnut cream cheese, and whoever is supplying Cleveland with these specialty cream cheeses knows what they're doing! There wasn't much left in the baked goods container when I was there but I picked up a matcha red bean bun ($2.25) to eat for dinner later. There was still quite a bit of stuff in the desserts case though! There is a minimum $5 purchase for credit cards so I paid in cash.
