We stopped in this little shop in Little Italy today after lunch at our favorite Nona's as it was my birthday. The jewelry in here is lovely from Turkey and Italy and is a must see hard to explain the beauty. My son bought me a lovely Gold Heart and a piece of Swarovski crystals for his wife. What an adorable shop! We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and I walked out with the evil eye earrings of my dreams. While we stopped in on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Verde was a socially conscious retail shop. There was an array of products from around the world made from sustainable practices and materials. Verde was chic and offered some adorable accessories. Prices seemed on point, staff was professional but not overall friendly. Location was key. Check out Verde, my earrings are some of my favorite! From first glance this looks like any ordinary tourist gift shop. I'm so glad I wandered in after eating lunch in Little Italy on my last trip to San Diego, because they really have some special things inside. The concept of the store is upcycled and repurposed gifts. For instance I found an adorable purse made by a local artisan with aluminum soda tabs. I ended up walking away with purchasing a screen printed canvas bag that caught my eye in the store window display. It was made exclusively for Verde and says "LOVE" but the L is the shape of California and there is a heart where San Diego would be located on the map! The best thing is that the bag was only $8.50. I wish I had known that with a Yelp check-in you get 10% off, but maybe I will do that next time if I decide to buy another tote as another gift. read more

I love the store situated right in the middle of Little Italy. I first noticed it in 2013 and I went in and ended up buying a beautiful purse made by women in Cambodia. It was not very high priced and just gorgeous, then 10 days ago I bought another Cambodian purse but a black one this time so that I can use it during the winter. Wth! I'm visiting SD from the East coast and just walked like 4 blocks to check out this shop. As I'm walking up, a lady puts a pitiful looking hand written sign up that they will return shortly. Stores that do that in the middle of the day don't get my business! That's just poor planning. read more

I happened across Verde yesterday evening when I was downtown checking out all the new shops in what was the downtown police headquarters and is now called The Headquarters. The store is tucked away in the NE corner of the complex and you could easily miss it because the signage is not prominent. The assortment was quite a diverse mix of mostly personal accessories. This ardent environmentalist was very surprised to learn that all the merchandise in the store is recycled, upcycled, repurposed and sustainable. They call it eco-chic, but I call it a brilliant, cost effective, chic and practical way to save the planet. The prices are extremely reasonable. I bought a # of Christmas presents, including: two purses made of sustainable grasses by Cambodian women who I'm told make a good living from their enterprise; a beautiful purse made of "vegan leather," which is indistinguishable from real leather and WAY cheaper; and a very cool iPad bag that is made from repurposed Australian waders. I also bought an indestructible dopkit for myself that's made from recycled seat belts. Loren, the manager, was very knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and helpful, without trying to sell anything. The Headquarters complex also has memorabilia from the old police station on display and a jail that you can walk through; what could possibly be better? ;-) I love the unifying green concept of the product assortment and Verde's execution is flawless. A few months ago I bought a long chain om necklace and loved it so much I nearly wear it daily. My mother in law noticed me Wearing it and loved it too, not only how it looked but what it represented. So I took her to the store today so we could pick one up for her as well. I was anxious at first coming to the store because it had been several months since I had purchased the necklace and wasn't sure if they would have another in stock. I was pleasantly surprised to find not only did they have the om necklace but many new jewelry additions. I purchased more long necklaces and a finger bracelet chain and love it so much! This place is my jam! My favorite purses in the whole world are Harvey's seatbelt bags and they have a ton in stock! I wanted them all! I am a big environmentalist and I love this store's concept. I purchased several colorful beaded bracelet one of them broke I was told to bring it back to exchange. Fast forward a few months later I bring the bracelet back new owners will not take it back it's not a product they make. Perhaps "New Owners" should not sell products they can NOT back. Stopped into this cute little store the other night after having dinner. I had walked by it a few times before but never thought of going in. It is small, and not a huge selection of jewelry, but definitely for the ecclectic at heart. There are also bags, candles and other accessories here. The woman who owns it is very helpful. I found a beautiful bracelet that matched a necklace of my own I had but my necklace lost some crystals, so she offered to use her tools to recreate my necklace so I could have a matching set. I bought 2 bracelets that had some sparkles on them for about $27 a piece. I pretty much only gave 4 stars because the prices are a little high. Parking here is of course a pain because it is Little Italy. read more

The salesperson, however, was spouting off to another customer about their personal politics, and it was just a complete turnoff. Just visiting San Diego with my family for a week, and l loved Little ltaly. I saw this little and cute shop. We walked in yesterday, and l was interested one of the necklaces. I guess they are silver, as soon as l walked that part the woman in white tshirt walked towards me with an attitude. I felt like l am stealing something. She was very aggresive, unhappy, and mean. We continued to check, but she was very rude to my friend also so we decided to not get something over there. Please be careful that young lady to give you same experience. Strolled into Verde the first week that they opened. I had been looking for a vintage faux fur purse and I couldn't believe my eyes! There before me, was the sexiest brown faux fur bag with the inside lined in beautiful vintage Pucci. Wow, it is so nice. The faux fur is repurposed from a vintage coat as is the lining from a vintage Pucci garment. So happy with my purchase. Loren, the manager, (very friendly) helped me and also showed me the entire store, although very cozy, they pack quite a punch with all the environmentally friendly and repurposed items that they carry.
