Blackened walleye with truffle potatoes and sautéed spinach
    Stephanie C.

On a whim, stopping here while driving back home, we decided to stop at Veritas for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised at how fancy this place felt. It had ample seating and a super cute vibe. We were greeted promptly by the host and our server. We decided to order the walleye, chicken and the French onion soup. Everything was wonderful! The complimentary focaccia was so good. Light and fluffy with the whipped butter making it absolutely delicious! My boyfriend ordered the walleye and could have it done different ways (he chose blackened) and got 2 sides to go with it. The chicken was so juicy and well flavored. The polenta was extra cheesy and the mushrooms were perfectly cooked. I would definitely recommend stopping here if you need a great place to eat!

Faroe Island Salmon, Sautéed mushrooms, Truffle purée potatoes

I quite enjoyed walking upon this restaurant. The towering wooden doors made a grand entrance for me possible. Love it! A cooler with cutesy chocolates has it's home next to the host stand up front. I have yet to try one. From first appearance they are lovely. The decor at the bar is warm and welcoming. Almost vintage, slightly boho chic ~ The rest of the decor is a little.. off. I fail to see a cohesive style. I believe their menu cover is perhaps the best piece of design within the building. The bathroom is delightful and heading in the right direction. There could be some improvements to the cleanliness of fixtures and liveliness of decor. A Michigan white wine and a frothy cappuccino started my journey here; They were served in a classic aesthetic, and tasted great. The "bread to start" is on the doughy side. The flavor and consistency make me think I've taken a mouthful of stale cheez-its. Is this what focaccia I ordered the Faroe Island Salmon. It was beautifully flavored. Only problem for me? Too much salt. The side of sautéed mushrooms & truffle potato purée I received were dancing in my mouth. Flavorful, balanced, delicious!! The server was fantastic. Kind, good at his job, and prompt with his service. Service and the cute fish tank residents are the reason why this review is five stars. My rating for everything else? 3/5 Great location and I enjoyed most of my experience ~

Hidden gem in Jackson Michigan! In downtown is this restaurant and they are serving AMAZING food. Starting off with individual fresh herb bread. (See photo). I had the special, skate with capers, fingerling potatoes, and roasted carrots. I can't rave about it enough. It was light, very palletable, and perfectly done. My co-worker had a PERFECTLY done steak. Medium rare. *chef kiss* Creme Brulee for dessert. Disclaimer** MAKE RESERVATIONS** I DID NOT KNOW THIS. The manager was not exactly the most pleasant about this but we got there as soon as the doors opened so there wasn't a rush for tables. ALSO DO LET THEM KNOW IF YOU ARE THERE WITH YOUR RESERVATIONS OR THEY GET CHARGED. Weird flex but hey.

I got the wood grilled prime steak skewers.

Found this gem on Yelp and I am so glad I tired it. The waiter was super friendly and efficient. The wood fire skewers were not bad. I felt that it was a good amount for an appetizer. The sushi was just ok. 3/5. I am pretty picky though. The truffle fries. Now that is where it is at!! Those were so good along with the black truffle mayo. I would come back for those alone!

    Great cocktails.

I must say, this place made my first trip to downtown Jackson very memorable. The aesthetics are amazing. The location is quaint on the main strip downtown and the inside is very modern and eclectic, with unique decor. We took a quick tour while waiting for drinks, I advise you to do the same. We started with the cider mill sour and the citrus blossom cocktails , which were fabulous. Since it was brunch only, we followed with the crabcakes Benedict and bananas foster french toast. Both were outstanding. I hope to be back to try their sushi and other options soon!

    Private party seating upstairs

I recently had an opportunity to visit this establishment with a group of friends for a party. I have to honest up front, this place wouldn't be my first choice for dinner. Not that I'm profiling this place, I'd just normally prefer a more casual dining experience. I'll also add that my experience was part of a private party upstairs. We did go through the downstairs and interact with some staff, but the majority of my time was upstairs away from the traditional dining. The building inside and out is very nice. It is well decorated, neat and clean. The bathroom was spotless. Our dining room felt cozy and comfortable. The waitstaff was very professional. Everyone we spoke with was polite, courteous and helpful. They were on point over everything. The food and menu is really where I started to struggle. Hear me out on this..... have you ever walked into an art gallery store and seen something you liked? If it was a painting, a piece of pottery, or even a photo of your favorite lighthouse. You want it until you realize the price tag says $300, and you walked out empty handed. That doesn't mean it wasn't a great photo, it just wasn't a $300 photo. That's how I felt about my Ahi tuna salad for $30. I don't know what I expected from my $30 salad but, I just didn't feel like I got it. The Surf and Turf on the menu for $75 better be helping me paint my house too. The menu had a good variety of food options, and they all sounded pretty good. I considered a few other options before my salad until I saw some of the review photos. Again, not that they were bad photos, just not what I was willing to pay. Maybe a 3 star seems a little harsh, but we can't do half stars. A 4 star for me means I'm eating there again, if I'm in town. Unfortunately, I can't say that I would unless I was invited. This 3 star is because it was a good experience, with some artsy pottery food, that I would have put back down and walked away. If I'm back in Jackson with a couple hundred extra dollars to spare, that's burning a hole in my pocket, AND I'm hungry, then I'll stop back in. Otherwise, my house doesn't need painted.

Beef tenderloin & Fettuccine Alfredo- delicious but I prefer not to have it paillard style but rather cut all together.

UPDATE: Came here for a drink. A shot 1oz of WELLER IS $15?!? It's a $30 bottle for WELLER.

When the meetings finally ended, we were starving and in desperate need of real food. Surprisingly (and slightly concerning), this was one of the only restaurants around. The area itself is pretty quiet, mostly hotels and a few food spots, so when you find a good one, you commit. From the moment we walked in, the host greeted us warmly, which was already a great start. Since this is a teppanyaki spot, we were seated at a shared table they were working to fill, standard hibachi rules apply. While waiting, we ordered drinks because... obviously. I went with the lychee martini (pronounced Lie-chee, not Lee-chee, gotta respect the fruit LOL), and my colleague ordered the sweet plum. Both were delicious, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. Next came the must-haves: edamame and gyoza. No notes. Just solid, comforting appetizers that did their job while we waited for the main event. With our meals, we were served the consommé soup and the salad with ginger dressing, and let me just say, that ginger dressing deserves its own fan club. So good. Once the table filled up, the show began. Flames, flair, knife skills, and all the hibachi magic you hope for. The chef was super entertaining and clearly knew how to keep the energy up. The staff overall was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel fun and welcoming. Bonus points for the fact that I spoke the language, which led to a mini conversation about why I was randomly in the middle of Michigan, always a fun topic. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. Good food, great service, and a much-needed post-meeting morale boost. If I ever find myself back in that part of Michigan, I'd absolutely come back, hopefully with fewer meetings next time.

This time I brought the family. Everyone loved their meals. Chicken katsu, teriyaki tofu bento box, and hot put with udon. I went with my old reliable a sushi deluxe meal and the Alaska roll. The Alaska roll is weird but delicious. Who would think that baked mozzarella would be good in a sushi roll. Everything was delicious and service was great. I left and went home and didn't realize I got the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll (a wrapper cone with the salmon inside; doesn't have rice). Called thinking they had made a mistake and explained to the owner who then comped me. The owner calls back and then explains that because it was my fault they wouldn't comp me. I called again after reviewing their online menu to confirm and explain how it was confusing and was offered to be comped after I pointed out a price difference. I declined as I probably won't be back. Just felt like the manager/owner could have at least sympathized with having to drive 20 minutes there/back again ‍

I have been meaning to try this restaurant for years. And so today, I did. If you didn't know that…read moreit was there, you would miss it. Directly across from the Post Office, it seems almost hidden by the overgrown brush in the landscaped areas. The positive: 1.) The cream cheese wontons are INSANELY good!! The chili dipping sauce is quite spicy, and I did enjoy it. 2.) The Miso soup had a hearty taste, which I found to be unique. 3.) I chose a Dynamite Roll as I was at a loss as to the choice to make. It was very good. 4.) Overall, the actual food entries were quite enjoyable. The "not-so-positive": 1.) This place is in definite need of a complete makeover. Paint, ceiling tiles, T-bars, lighting, flooring, etc. It felt dingy and a bit dirty. 2.) I did not go into the kitchen, of course, but I did watch the young man at the counter making sushi. Sushi is supposed to be part of a presentation/event. But you can't sit at the counter (there isn't one). You have to go on faith. 3.) The service was INCREDIBLY slow. There was a party of nine, a party of six, and several other tables ahead of me. The waitress was bouncing all over the place. Making bobas, taking orders in person and over the phone, busing a dish or two, probably doing some prep and plating in the kitchen, and who knows what else. She was seemingly stressed. 4.) Oh, they also chose Sunday night (which is typically a quiet night, per the waitress) to train two new employees. Oops. 5.) Oh, I did not visit the restrooms, probably I was better off if I were to guess. But a big "shout out to the young man making bobas, drinks--his 3rd day. As I was waiting, I was watching. Besides the drinks, he managed the till, bussed a dish or two, and had a very polite, pleasant personality--the star of the show in my opinion. Oh, and Grandma (you know who you are - 3 grandchildren), please get your head out of your cell phone and get your grandchildren under control. They were really, really disturbing to everyone there. Will I go back? There's no other choice if I want Japanese again. Adrian is a small town.
