Read the menu carefully I ordered the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll thinking it was the Spicy Salmon Roll (which is in the Hand Roll section) - same price. I left and went home and didn't realize I got the Spicy Salmon Hand Roll (a wrapper cone with the salmon inside; doesn't have rice). Called thinking they had made a mistake and explained to the owner who then comped me. The owner calls back and then explains that because it was my fault they wouldn't comp me. I called again after reviewing their online menu to confirm and explain how it was confusing and was offered to be comped after I pointed out a price difference. We had such a good experience here! We are from out of town and just searched for hibachi near our hotel. Our son had the steak hibachi, I had the steak bento box and the both of our steaks were cooked perfectly. My husband had the Mexican sushi roll at the suggestion of the server and it was also yummy. Most of the time great but hit or miss really. Reservations all the time is somewhat annoying as they should be able to accommodate walk in's they did pre COVID. Michigan isn't a land-locked state but it's not exactly known for its sushi. But sushi was what I wanted for dinner and Sakura in Battle Creek did a very good job. Nicely greeted and a comfortable table. I was able to find the right page on the menu and ordered a plate of sashimi and let the young lady know that the chef's choice was fine. After I enjoyed their salad and miso soup, my platter of fresh fish arrived. Nicely plated, a good portion and a nice variety that tasted great. The hardest part is ordering the correct amount of food. We order a meal for each of us and end up with three times as much as we need. I have yet to get this right, even after 20 plus times of ordering take out. Then they throw in an order of their Japanese donuts on top of it and we are stuffed. Order the WMU Bronco roll. THIS FOOD IS THE BOMB DOT COM!! My boyfriend and I crave the sushi from this place and have to come back every time we choose to eat out! We usually get the tempura California roll with cream cheese!! However, it's sometimes hard to speak with our waitresses when they are constantly being yelled at by other staff (IN FRONT OF US). Our sweet waitress greeted us and sat us down immediately but then was interrupted by another waitress named Shawn. Shawn chased our waitress over here like a goose chasing someone out of their territory just to confront our waitress in front of us that this was not a table and that we weren't supposed to be seated here. All I could think was do I ask her if we need to move and that I felt horrible for our waitress as I saw the embarrassment in our waitresses eyes as she seemed to be new. I wish the staff treated each other better in front of their customers. Everyone look out for the goose, when you sit down to eat here, she might chase you too! The food was really good, the server was rather rude, the music playing in the background was inappropriate. But we will probably not be back. My Japanese wife, enjoyed the food but noted that some of the menu items were mislabeled. Our sever may have been having a bad night, because she was rude to us from start to finish. Stopped here on the way back from Chicago. We weren't really sure what to expect and we're kind of picky about our sushi spots. After reading some good reviews while we were outside, we decided to just head in thinking they were going to close in a few minutes. Stopped in for diner while in town for business and decided to walk from the hotel here. SO GLAD I DID! I ordered the Buffalo roll and the TNT roll. Just the right amount for spice for me. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was phenomenal. I poured myself a little soy sauce, but only dipped twice. The rolls had plenty of flavor without adding to them. Price was nice for the quality of the rolls. I've paid $3-$4 more per roll at other places and was not as satisfied with the flavor. Apparently the online ordering is through a 3rd party and they can't cancel my order? A 15 minute drive, 30 minute wait plus an additional 30 minutes to wait for them to make the food. This is based on the last two visits to Sakura. I was in a few weeks ago to have dinner with a friend. The server was rude from the start.Our meal was rushed and she kept asking if we were finished. The GM, Dave Mayfield came by and told us to have a good night WHILE we were still eating. This was 2 hours before close, so I know it wasn't them wanting to close for the night. I felt like our patronage was not wanted, so we paid and left quickly. Tonight, my husband suggested sushi so I decided to give it another chance. We were seated by the hostess, and our server told her the section we were sitting in was reserved. I asked if she would like us to move and she said it was fine but seemed like she wasn't too happy about it. She asked what we wanted to drink, and I asked for water and a glass of plum wine. There are 2 kinds on the menu, and she walked away before I could say I wanted the Kikoman. I hd to flag her down again and tell her which one I wanted. After she came back and took our order, she asked if we wanted an appetizer. We said no thank you, and she proceeded to list off the appetizers we could get. I insisted that we didn't want any appetizers, just the sushi. When my sushi arrived, I immediately noticed a white hair sitting on top of one of the pieces. I called her over and showed her the hair. She said it was part of the fish or maybe from my chopsticks. I said it was most definitely a hair. She took the hair over to the GM, who came over and didn't deny that it was a hair, just told me that it looked light in color (I have dark hair so was he trying to clear up that I did or did not put the hair in the food?) I'm not sure what he wanted to tell me by describing it to me. He offered to remake my food and I said that would be acceptable. The server continued to act strangely throughout our meal, coming over to check on us whenever we were clearly having a conversation and again when my husband reached to take some sushi off my plate. It felt very intrusive and I was not able to enjoy my food because I was so annoyed by the whole experience. I think from now on, I will go to the Kalamazoo location or to Kumo if I want sushi. This place isn't worth the money for such a poor dining experience. My husband and I rarely get to go out anymore, so it makes it all the more disappointing when an evening is ruined. read more

First time here; last time here. Our waitress, as nice as she could possibly be, was not into the timing part of a meal, not only for my table, but others around us as well. We ordered an appetizer and then sushi. Our appetizer did not come out until well after our sushi was already served and eaten. The table next to us had the same surprise. I thought it was odd when I saw her deliver sushi, then salads and soup...then soon after more sushi and ask the gentlemen if they were done with their soups and salads (repeatedly, more than 2 times as if she was forcing them to clear the table) because she had more sushi and entree to deliver to them. She did the same thing to us! My husband asked her, after the sushi began to arrive, if the appetizer was coming and she fumbled through her tickets and never apologized but said it was on its way. It came as the very and absolute last plate. I also found a bone in my sushi. I have never, in my many and numerous times of dinning out at sushi places across the country, had a bone in my sushi. I told the waitress and she seemed like she cared...for a millisecond and then nothing. I also had to remind her of my drink refill. The salmon was the mushiest and fishiest I have ever had. I eat sushi a lot and from many different places. This was the worst. And to top it off, it was our anniversary dinner. Ef! It upset me on so many levels. This place was horrible. I don't care that the tables were full. Either they had it out for us when we walked in the door or BC is totally ignorant or desperate for sushi. I think most people really like this place but I'm giving it 3 stars because I don't eat sushi and it's not a place that I desire to eat at, but I went out to lunch with a group of 18 coworkers. We had 2 servers work our table, and they got us in and out within an hour, with separate checks for all! I ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box which consists of sliced chicken on a bed of bean sprouts, 4 pieces of california roll (I picked out the imitation crab), 1 spring roll, 1 piece of tempura (I substituted chicken for shrimp), a side of fruit, and a choice of soup or salad. It was good and I ate everything from the plate but this is not a place that I will frequently visit. From what I can tell about the rest of the meals served at my table, the sushi portions were fairly large and everyone seemed pleased with their selections. read more

This is the go to dinner place for my husband and I. Excellent sushi and very nice specialty rolls. One of our favorites is the Drunken Tiger.
