Several years ago, we hired Mike Walsh and his crew to remodel from top to bottom the kitchen in our 100 year old Beverly home. They tore the place down to the studs, updated the room's plumbing and electricity, installed a hardwood floor and built custom cabinets that match the vintage of our prairie-style house. Mike worked closely with us from start to finish, helping us design the kitchen and select appliances and materials. More recently, we very gladly had Mike and his crew back to remodel our basement, which was last finished back when I was born a half-century ago. Once again, they tore the place down to the studs, updated the plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems, and brought to virtually level the floor, which had an unmistakable 6-inch pitch toward the floor drain. Once again, Mike helped us design what we now refer to as our lower level (it's too nice to be called a basement). With both jobs, Mike worked to save us every inch of floor space and (in the basement) headroom. He approached our house as if it was his own home. He regularly checked on the work personally and kept us up-to-date on progress and next steps. He was very responsive when we spotted problems (which was seldom) or had questions. We'd have Mike and his skilled tradesmen back to do another job, if we had one to be done. We couldn't be more pleased with the work they did for us! Do not use this company. I decided to hire a small local remodeler for my kitchen rather than a large chain and am regretting that decision. They took more than twice as long to "complete" the job. Their estimate was considerably higher than what was originally stated. "No need for a permit" they said...BIG mistake. This job would not have passed an inspection. Small details were not completed and I had to have them come back. The lighting that was installed above and below the cabinets at first flickered constantly and I was popping the circuit breaker. They came back after several calls and fixed that, however, now my light switch is very warm to the touch even when the lights are not on - I am afraid to turn the lights on. I call and call and am promised a call back to schedule another electrician and it does not happen. The remodel began in February and it is now August. I will be calling my own electrician...one who is definitely licensed, bonded, and knows how to do his job. One's work is only as good as one's workers...do not use Vermont Cabinetry in Blue Island. read more

Quality of cabinets is good and service was OK. Unfortunately, we have been trying for one month to get them to come back and put handles on our cabinet doors and drawers. Once we paid, they seemed to lose all interest in providing good customer service and finish the job. If you use them, be sure not to pay until the job is 100% done. read more

After interviewing and getting estimates from 2 other companies, we met with Mike and shared our vision of what we wanted our new kitchen to look like. He worked with our ideas, added a few of his own, and came up with a design far better than either of those the previous remodelers offered, and at a better price. Mike and his team were efficient and very considerate in the process of completing our kitchen remodel. Our home, their work site, was left as neat and clean as possible at the end of each work day.
