A pleasant trip every time! They're a fantastic local farm that offers great grocery options as well as fresh baked goods, deli, and signature events like strawberry picking, sunflower picking, and a great fall fest with pumpkins. If you're passing by, the baked goods are worth the stop with so many options including pies that are out of this world. We go to Verril Farm weekly. It's a very pretty spot & a nice store. I like how they have home goods and specialty items for sale such as aprons, napkins, teas, and toiletries. That said, it is a pretty upscale market. I feel that their soups, entrees, and appetizers sold in the refrigerated section can be hit or miss. Their meatloaf and soups are usually very, very good. I like the spaghetti and meatball offerings and the dumplings with sauteed vegetables and a soy based sauce are really pretty good. A few times I ordered the flank steak and found it a little disappointing as a large vein of fat and gristle ran through the slices I bought, and weren't seasoned enough. Also, seemed like choice beef, not prime. I bought a chicken coconut curry entree with vegetables and rice. The vegetables and rice were overcooked, the chicken pieces not very good and the curry was underseasoned. So - hit or miss at times. The made to order sandwiches arrive quickly but I found only the turkey BLT wrap appeals to me. There are so many other types of sandwiches to offer - just kind of underwhelming. Foccacia or pita instead of the ubiquitous tortilla wrap. Rye bread. Scalia bread. Bagels ? I often peruse their prepared foods case out of curiosity but the prices for me are prohibitive. A glazed salmon filet for 19.99 a pound ?! A pound is 16 oz. That's a small filet piece really. Their cheeses, breads, and produce is impressive, again, somewhat prohibitive cost. I usually end up purchasing cheddar, chevre, gruyere, or a cheese spread. I often get the Italian pre made sandwiches but lately have found the lettuce with the pesto mayo pretty limp and the bread tasting like cardboard, so I stopped buying it. I had a mushroom bisque there that was completely outstanding. Whoever made that - Wow. An artist. I complained to the management once that their male sandwhich counter staff were making loud obscene comments about me as I shopped. Not much a life, I'm afraid. I grew up 9 miles from Verrill farm, and I remember when it was still a dairy farm. My first or second grade class had a field trip there, and we saw cows. Years later, as a high school student, I used to stop by when Verrill farm was but a small 'pick-your-own' stand, and crouched amongst the rows of vegetables, knees in the dirt, to pick the best zucchini or summer squash or pepper or whatever it was that I could find. I remember the warm wind, the blue sky, the endless horizon. One spring morning during my first internship as a cook in 1996, I remember biking to Verrill Farm with a few friends from my house in Cambridge. We were going there to pick Asparagus. The field was right along the same road that I drove along every morning and afternoon to get back and forth from highschool, and I had never noticed it. It was wild, stocky and mostly grown out, but there were a few spears that would make it to our restaurant that night. I learned then that of the varieties they were selling to restaurants (at that time), only a small percentage were being sold to customers via the farm store. As the store expanded, they've added many more varieties to the selection there. Whenever I go home now to visit my mother we stop at Verrill to pick local, fresh, just picked ingredients for dinner. Sometimes it is just a few ears of corn and fresh tomatoes for dinner. Other times it is a larger production. They bake wonderful scones, pies, and other sweets and have a small selection of New England-made cheeses. They have a great sandwich case along with well-made prepared foods. Verrill Farm is a farm stand in the truest sense -- most of the farm fresh products are their own, although they fill in the gaps (like fruit -except strawberries) with other local products during the summer and products from other parts of the country during the winter. Aside from having emailed and called more than four times to book a group outing/event with no response, the woman in charge of organizing events was rude and unwelcoming. I am still a big fan of their catering and now their bakery. Ordered their green bean dish, root vegetable gratin, and kale salad for Thanksgivjng- all were fantastic. Also got their Kentucky bourbon pecan pie which was the best pecan pie I've ever had! Recently also had their chicken pasta primavera, arugula salad, and fresh cream fruit sponge cake for another function - amazing as will. When you order their pans, you pick it up already cold and then you reheat in oven for 30-40 min or so depending on what it is. I find the prices excellent and very competitive. We like to stop by Verrill Farm for a quick lunch on trips through the area. Their sandwiches and salads are nice and they have a large selection of take-out food in their slightly pricey farm store. What attracted us to Verrill Farm for the first time a couple weeks ago was the huge pumpkin patch along Route 117. I don't think I've ever seen one, and neither has Venkman. It was so cool. We stopped by and were blown away by not only the pumpkins, but all the great, fresh, and locally grown produce. We're trying like heck, like so many others, to shop local, and I think Verrill Farm is a good place for us to do just that. So many different types of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, apples, oh my! Not to mention the yummy desserts! We picked up a pecan pie, and loved it! It was gobbled up in like a day. We also liked the Massachusetts-made goat cheese, too. And back to the pumpkins, we bought two weird-looking ones. There were so many to choose from, but leave it to us to go for the oddballs. Fantastic bakery - and decent frozen chicken pot pies. Not the BEST pot pies I've ever had, but the crust was great. The filling could have used more flavor, I added a bunch of pepper and made 'em my own. I was really impressed by the produce and especially the bakery - they had the best cookies I've gotten from a local bakery. The pumpkin bars were super delicious as were the whoopie pies. And I know a good whoopie pie, believe you me. They're not easy to find in these parts... Nice little place with various thing to do. We went for the pick your pumpkin (10-3 on weekends). They have many more on the stands as well. Inside there are lots of grocery with grass fed beef, cheese and baked goods. The bakery has very good selection. Besides the usual goods like cookies, brownies, pies, they have canale, biscotti, mousse, etc. the deli is right next to it and they serve good sandwiches and well as simple premade meals. I came this past Saturday to pick strawberries. Called in advance, and they said that it was the second to last day. The strawberries weren't very sweet, and the ones left were mostly either overripe or underripe. They were $3.75/pound. I might come back in a different season; hopefully the fruit will taste better! read more

Simply substandard customer service. I could go on and on about my terrible experience there today but I doubt anything will change. I talked to someone who might have been a manager but again, I'm not sure the service will change given the attitude and response given to my grievances. They really could do so much better. Corn and Tomato Festival!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This past fall, I went to the corn and tomato festival here and it was a pretty serious event. It was such a nice day and the band was playing in the background and there were so many cute families. I took significant other on a date and it was awesome. They had like over 40 varieties of tomato to try and like a 20 types of corn. For 6 bucks, you can try everything, they even had all these homemade dishes made with their corn and tomatoes. They had things like corn chowder, chickpea salad, black bean salad, gazpacho, and even a green tomato tart. Boy, were we full after that! Vegan and vegetarian friendly. The shop was cute too, we bought some fresh fruits and veggies. I really want to go to the strawberry festival too and I will certainly return to next year's corn and tomato fest. read more

My Husband, my son and I went to Verill Farm on Wednesday, September first, when I picked up 2 cantaloupes, 2 bunches of grapes, and 5 ears of corn, took them to the register and was told that the grand total for the items was 35.00! When I asked how that was possible, the cashier responded "that's just how much it is". I asked her to recheck and again the response was "this is how much it is". I didn't pay for the items and just told the cashier that I would leave the items and go. We are extremely disappointed with the service and our experience with Verill farm. We visit Wilson farm in Lexington and have had awesome experiences and the prices charged for the items listed above were under $12.00. This could just be a service issue, but with a number of farms and stores like Whole Foods competing for this kind of business, it's not worth the effort or the drive to be treated so poorly. read more

Verrill Farm is a beautiful place. I went there today for my annual tradition of strawberry-picking and the fruits of my labor (literally!) did not disappoint this year. There were plenty of beautifully ripe strawberries to pick in the fields, and many still remain so if you do get a chance to go soon, I recommend it! I believe the cost is about $3.00/lb.; I walked out with $30 worth and do not wish I spent even one cent less, for the experience and the product I returned home with have both been worth it. (My only regret is that I did not wear sunscreen, and it was a very sunny day, but it was perfect strawberry-picking weather!) Plus, it's an all-you-can-eat berry buffet! The interior of the farm store is very nice and there is always fresh produce there, as well as a variety of pre-made food, natural cosmetic merchandise, and a fresh bakery where you can get baked goods and, if I remember correctly, freshly-made sandwiches and smoothies. The pricing of the items in the store are a bit on the pricy side, but you certainly do get what you pay for. The people working there have always been a friendly and pleasant bunch from the times I have been there over the year, which is always nice. There is a lot going on at the farm in terms of festivals and events for both adults and kids alike throughout the whole summer, and a schedule can always be found on the website! All in all, Verrill Farm is always a place I walk away from with a smile on my face. What more could you ask for? read more

We came here with high hopes but this place, although cute, is overpriced and the selection is not that great. The produce is local, so that is a plus, but not as high quality as the produce at Russo's, and the selection is not great. In terms of selection, they didn't stock a lot of the high quality products from local farms that we expected. For example, they do stock milk from Shaw Farms, which is a plus, but do not stock milk from Crescent Ridge, which we love (Crescent Ridge ice cream btw is amazing). Caveat - it is possible that because we went pretty early in the growing season, selection was more sparse. Their prepared foods section had a pretty wide range of stuff, but didn't look any more appetizing than the selection at Whole Foods. read more
