When you have are up in the game you deserve a 7up
    Juan V.

People like playing games. Some see life as one big video game as others see it as a board game. San Francisco is full of games and gamification is the name of the game. It doesn't have to be a holiday for people to start playing reindeer games. There is a game for almost anything like corporation games, political games and fantasy games etc. Most games are played solo and some are played with teammates but you always need an opponent to play. Some games are rigged and some are pay for play like buying bots to inflate social media presence. There is a place which is loaded with game at the Sunset Strip of San Francisco on Taraval and it's called Versus. This place has lots of game. Inside it has lots of tables to engage in a game of cards. They have trading card game events and tournaments competitions .This place also sells trading card games such as Final Fantasy and Pokémon. They also sell beer ( root beer) and 7 up to up your game. Some games are played for high stakes and some play stupid games to win stupid prizes in SF. Some games can be "taught "other games can be "bought " some games are rigged for social media presence by buying followers by the "bot "and according to game theory is all about winning and not getting "caught " Some game are easy others are "hard" and some players don't follow the game rules without "regard" and some gaming strategies are going on the attack mode and some players are put on "guard" the games at Versus are usually played as a board game and most games are played with a trading game" card"

    My favorite local game store

Versus Games is my favorite place to play Magic: the Gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area, and it's the only place I know left with a large stock of singles and games multiple days per week. My favorite part about Versus is the friendly and professional staff, who make big prerelease events a blast for beginners to budding pros. I've been playing there around 10 years. When I was learning, the staff and the other players helped me out. Now that I'm a pro (just kidding!), I enjoy taking time to help the newer players. Versus has many other trading card games and events, but my heart's with Magic. Thank you Versus Games!

My husband and I are huge Pokemon fans and we love to open and collect cards. But with the surging popularity of this hobby, many stores such as Target, GameStop, and other collectible places sometimes increase their prices, so it's not worth it to buy them overpriced. Gamescape keeps their prices as MSRP and their staff is very friendly. They keep it simple and easy with their Pokemon trading card items behind the counter and if they have more, they'll tell you and if they're not, they're out. None of that "hiding items from customers" nonsense that you see from other stores because they want to keep it for themselves, and etc. I also appreciate them accepting our donations of Pokemon items and accessories such as playmats, dice, binders, etc. After opening Pokemon cards, my husband and I do not need 10+ playmats, bunch of dice, and countless binders. With all of these in "never used" conditions, we would rather donate them to kids who would appreciate them more and have fun with them. I definitely do not want to sell those to kids or others as well, since they are free items with the Pokemon cards. Gamescape accepted our donations and was very appreciative. Thank you Gamescape for being one of the few places who sells their Pokemon items at MSRP and allowing us to enjoy this hobby without burning our $$$ too much lol

Visiting San Francisco for the first time in 19 years, I made it a mission to find a game store…read more The closest one was about a mile away, so I walked from The Clancy in SoMa with one goal: buy the new 2024 D&D Monster Manual. That's my rule: if I step into a game or comic shop, I have to buy something. It's a hard habit to break at this point. From the outside, the store looks massive -like it might contain the multiverse. But once inside, the retail selection isn't quite as big as it appeared to be. BUT... it's got great stuff. Solid board game options. Plenty of space for RPGs and card games. It's the kind of store that's clearly built around social gatherings and play. Spacious and not cramped. A rare find in a city setting. There's an upstairs and downstairs, but those seemed more dedicated to table games you can meet up and play rather than shopping, so I didn't explore too much. The staffer working was friendly and helpful. She even checked if they had the new Monster Manual. Unfortunately, they didn't. That was a letdown. I mean, it's been out for months. If a game store doesn't carry the NEW core D&D books, especially right after a new edition drops, it stings a bit. They had plenty of the original 5e, but not the new. Still, I wasn't leaving empty-handed. Picked up a slick set of dice and the softcover Pathfinder 2E Monster Core Pocket Edition. Gotta support the cause. Overall? I'm glad I found the place. It's a real hangout spot. Honestly, throw in some coffee and comfy chairs, and I'd post up there for hours. Coffee and dice----- it just works right? Note: The 5-stars is a soft 5 because it really doesn't deserve a 4. I just wasn't floored and wowed by the place in general. 4.5 would be perfect. But a 5 it is DESPITE they didn't have what I came to get.

Needless to mention, unlike almost any other board game cafe in the Bay Area, they don't charge you just to sit and play. On top of that, they have a huge collection of comic books, board games, and comics-related items and artifacts available to purchase, so it's easy to walk out with more than you came in for. I love this place so much that it's always hard for me to leave. They close at 7 PM on weekends, and every single week, I find myself wishing I had just a little more time before heading out. It truly feels like a store with something for all ages and experience levels. As a fan of D&D and other TTRPGs, I was happy to see plenty of resources available. Warhammer fans will also find a massive selection of miniatures one of the largest I've personally seen along with a staff that clearly cares about the hobby. There's also a strong selection of card games, including Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, and Riftbound. Overall, the selection is excellent, and the staff is knowledgeable, kind, and welcoming. I had genuinely great experiences with the team there. They were helpful, open, and willing to guide me through the store and explain events. The only reason I'm rating my experience a bit lower is because one of the events I attended felt less welcoming to newer players. It seemed like about half the group was made up of very experienced players who were playing to win at a pretty intense level, while the other half included younger players who were just excited to participate, along with people like myself who were still learning and trying to navigate the hobby. As a newer player, the environment felt a little intimidating and discouraging at times. That said, I would still recommend Gamescape North to anyone in the area looking to shop, explore the hobby, or connect with a great staff. I'd just advise newer players to ask questions before jumping into an event blindly, so they can better understand the tone and experience level of the group. I hope to try again in the future and have a better experience.
