My experience at VEG Carle Place NY exceeded expectations. VEG was highly recommended by my cats primary doctor to continue receiving round the clock emergency care when they could not provide it. I am very happy I went with their suggestion and will be back if the need arises. I have already put in a good word and would 10/10 recommend to pet parents. One hour after my airplane landed from 2 week trip, I got a distressed call from my parents that my elderly pet cat I have had for over 12 years had suddenly thrown up and looked on the verge of death. I met with my parents here at this 24hr emergency animal hospital and learned that my cat was suffering heart failure and his lungs were full of fluid. The staff here from the receptionists to the veterinary assistants to the veterinarian herself showed exceptional kindness and patience to me and my family. They were extremely attentive to my cat, doing everything they could to ensure he wasn't suffering or failing while expertly balancing the needs of the other animals in their care. They explained all of my options, carefully and in detail. When I had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize my pet after 12AM, they explained all my aftercare options and provided my family and I with all the time we needed to say goodbye. We were also offered clay casts of my cat's pawprints and two glass bottles of fur clippings to remember him by while we wait for his ashes, which was extremely appreciated. I had felt haunted by the emptiness that came with coming back home with no cat, and at least having his paw prints and his fur clippings helped ease that grief even a little. I had been traveling all day, excited to return home to see my cat after 2 long weeks separated from him. For it all to end the way it did was devestating in a way I cannot describe, but I will always be grateful to Veterinary Emergency Group and all the staff for everything they did for my family during a difficult time. We called as our baby boy was suffering and we didn't know why. After a regular check up at our vet a week ago with no alarming outcome. We noticed something very wrong with him. VEG was excellent from start to finish. My husband brought our dog in right away. As soon as he set foot in the place a bunch gathered to start to look into our Enzo. They ran blood work to see what was going on. Informed us of everything along the way. Including pricing on everything they did. They gave our boy and IV and some pain management meds. Didn't rush us at all. I arrived about 20 mins later they went over everything with me again. We decided on all the options of X-ray, ultrasounds and blood work. To see he if could be helped or saved. Unfortunately the prognosis wasn't good for our boy. Had cancer that has spread on liver and spline with some internal bleeding. Would of only seen it on an ultrasound. Surgery wasn't an option because he was too far gone. Sadly he didn't show it until the day we brought him in because he was a trooper. We knew he was in pain. They gave us as much time as we needed to discuss options and spend time with him before we had to make the hardest decision of our lives and put him to rest. It was privately done and we were able to spend as much time as needed. Everyone there handle us with such grace and compassion. Especially for not knowing us or our pitbull Enzo. Kristen, Chris, Zee and sorry I didn't catch the other lovely women who helped us with meds and pricing were all so compassionate. They gifted us with a paw print to remember our boy. What I loved the most is we all know pit bulls have a stereotype... this was not seen at VEG at all. They weren't scared or Intimated or tried to mussel him like other places we have been to have. My French bulldog was having shortness of breath. It was an emergency we took hem to the clinic. First thing the day was to to sleep, put an air his throat. I never did anything after that. They never test for toxin they never test. Why is he having the shortness of breath they just said oh he had a ear infection. He must have a tumor with test for cancer. Never got the test back at three in the morning and every five minutes on the app they're telling you or the bill went up now now it's $5000. Dollars. 6000 so when there wasn't treating him, we asked to remove the tube from his throat so he couldn't breathe. They said we had to put him to sleep after research on this. It says that if your dog have shortness of breath, diarrhea, and vomiting that mean their body has toxin from some sort of cleaner when that happened. Give your dog a shower wash his skin out and feed him then take him to the doctor. We took him to the doctor directly, but they did not know what they were doing. These are doctors shouldn't have known that. That's like me going to the ER with food poisoning and they tell me I have I'm suffering from brain. Tumor but the put the sleep and then send him to their own criterium where they charge you more money so it's they are in the business of making money not of saving animals I think they need to be investigated because I could've just gone on Google if it didn't happen so suddenly and get the answer if I had kept my dog at home, I think he would've been fine all now and we would still have him in our house be very careful people when you go to these places cause they're all about making money not about the care of the animal. My sister was panicking at 11 pm because her new puppy wasn't feeling well. I searched through Google and came across this establishment and sent her there. She had nothing bad to say about the place. They took care of her baby, eased her fear and answered all her questions. I'm happy i found that place for her. She did say it was busy and they only had one vet on staff at that time but that vet was really nice to her and her pup and that was all that mattered. Brought my cat to them they were packed very unorganized and had too much going on at once. Misdiagnosed my cat and totally missed that she was having congestive heart failure. I feel like the place is understaffed and has too many kids running around and not enough doctors with experience. I feel like they were more worried about their estimate and their bill then actually properly diagnosing my cat as she deserved. But now I won't even get that chance because my poor cat of only 10 years old is now passed away not even three days later thanks to their misdiagnosis. Absolutely love this animal hospital and the location in Carle place. If I ever have to take one of my pets to an animal hospital there will be no hesitation in going here. All the doctors and staff members are amazing and I could not thank them enough for saving my 8 year old cat Lacey's life. Lacey was hospitalized on 3/14 in critical condition and released on 3/17 like a new cat. She had a rough 4 days after a severe UTI infection and bladder stones obstructing her urethra. The staff was always attentive with our phone calls and sending us photos/videos of Lacey daily. Lacey still has a long recovery with her infection and another stone but I am so happy to have her home with us. She's happy; playing, eating, purring and cuddling, just how she use to be. We are so grateful for the compassionate care we received at VEG in Carle Place NY. My dog Isabella had been vomiting for 3 days and wouldn't eat anything and wouldn't even drink any water. My own vet suggested I take her to an emergency vet, since they couldn't give me a quick appointment. After doing a Google search, I found that Veterinary Emergency Group not only had amazing reviews, but had a facility right near me in Carle Place NY. The front desk staff had taken our information over the phone so we went right in. Dr. Heather Magnuson was kind and compassionate. Isabella was running a fever and, after ruling out a blockage, was diagnosed with a UTI and dehydration. She was admitted to the facility and spent 2 days in their wonderful care. The facility has an open concept, with plenty of caring staff. All tests were performed onsite and she was given an IV with antibiotics. We were kept up to the minute on her care and progress by Dr. Pugh the second day and Dr. Furasawa on the third for discharge. Isabella still wouldn't eat, and the staff tried all sorts of foods to entice her, even their own chicken dinners! We were able to visit and spend uninterrupted time with Isabella while she was there. The staff is fantastic, with so much compassion for the pets they care for. Communication and care was stellar. These are people who love what they do and dedicate themselves fully. It took me a long time to write this because, ultimately, we lost our dear Izzy. She was 15, and in early kidney failure. She lived a wonderful life, but it was her time to say goodbye. Dr. Pugh prepared us for that possible outcome and I am grateful for her candor. The front desk staff at VEG gave us a wonderful recommendation for at home euthanasia. I have given Lap of Love their own stellar recommendation, but I can't recommend VEG enough and am so grateful to everyone there, but most especially Dr. Magnuson. She was absolutely amazing in every way we needed her to be during such a stressful and emotional time. read more

Had an emergency with my dog at midnight, so i searched in GOOGLE, not Yelp by the way since Yelp is a manipulative website.( but business really need so positive i this site therefor the review on this platform) i called 2 places . One was in queens, super nasty woman answered the phone, didn't want to answer any question or me taking to a DR before coming there and paying $225 fee. Was overall very bad experience which i save from you guys.. When i call this place there were extremely empathetic, polite and informative. Right away i felt i want my dog to be treated there. They transferred me to the DR ( dr Milo i believe) and he so nice , knowledgeable and didn't rush me . Answered all my questions and we consulted for 8 min. Friday September 30, 2022 was the worst day of my life! My Maltese Chloe collapsed 2x and I brought her to VEG for an emergency appointment. The staff was nice and the doctor was amazing! Unfortunately my baby was in heart failure and it was her time. 13 years is a long time and a family member. The doctor was very nice and calming and helped me be at peace with my decision. I was given a clay paw print that day and a lock of hair in a bottle. I cremated Chloe and she was returned to me within the week. I received a follow up call to check on me and I received a sympathy card in the mail personally signed by the doctors and the staff. There are no words or amount of thanks you can give people when your heart is broken and they handle you with care and respect. I recommend this clinic for any pet needs and will definitely use them again if any issues arise with my other pets. read more

Last week, I had rushed my 6 year old dog in as he was having difficulty urinating, straining all day and squatting with nothing coming out. He has urinary stones; I changed him to an SO diet, but this summer the stones became a really big issue, blood in his urine, UTIs...since August I've been dealing with this issue nonstop. November 6th he had bladder surgery to clear out his bladder (done elsewhere), analysis showed they were calcium oxalate; those don't dissolve on their own, they need to be removed. They were going to do a PU surgery (new peehole so if he gets them again, he won't get blocked) , but after they checked the bladder and urethra, discovered nothing. (My own vet told me sometimes even after the bladder is fully flushed, some tiny ones can get left behind.) He recovered nicely from the surgery, and up until last week was doing really well until the issue that I rushed him in for presented itself. All in all, the experience with the staff was good. The techs were very caring and sweet, and we were seen within maybe 5 minutes of our arrival. But I really had an awful experience with Dr. Nani Cha. The positives are she was generally nice, informative, and kindly gave me a 10% discount as I'm a retired tech. They did a sono on my dog, X-rays, and once we saw the issue (urinary stones in his urethra), they used a catheter to push them back into his bladder. I was a complete emotional wreck. I had just spent $ on his surgery 6,7 weeks ago, now the issue I thought was fixed was back. Help me figure out a way to get the stones OUT of my dog, not push them back into his bladder and give me the same problem I am trying to solve. I understand that was done because she saw his urethra contained stones so she couldn't just do nothing; but after hearing the history a different game plan should have been considered. So I paid $1,000 for nothing to be done. My dog is EXTREMELY important to me. He truly saved my life when I got him, and does so everyday. I was hysterical, sobbing, having trouble catching my breath, and kept asking Dr. Cha if he was going to be ok, what was going to happen. I used to tech, so I want the truth, but also, a little more compassion. She just felt cold everytime I asked if he would be ok and what did this mean for his life. She would NOT tell me he was going to be ok, it was very upsetting. She basically told me my options were (a) bladder surgery again (I asked, "every time this happens?" she said yes), (b) just ignore it and let him suffer and live however long he can like that, or (c) euthanasia. I was like, obviously I won't let him suffer, but who in God's name can afford monthly bladder surgeries? Not to mention that it's unethical to anesthetize him that frequently, and with a child at home that is medically complex, I cannot afford that. She did not explicitly say euthanasia, but I directly asked her, "so you're telling me this is a legitimate reason to euthanize a dog that is only 6 years old?" And no matter what I said, she would NOT tell me that it was NOT an option. She spoke to me like I was an actual child, like I was a 15 year old babysitter and told me (after I told her my husband is the only one who is able to work since I'm my daughters primary caretaker and working anytime soon is not an option), to "not worry, you will go home, and save up the money." For multiple bladder surgeries?! That is unethical! The next morning, a few hours later, we ended up at my personal vets office because he again wasn't peeing; they did an xray, the stones ended right back in his urethra, but he managed to pee pretty much every single one out (post xray was clear). My vet (who I actually used to work with) said this was in no way a reason to have a dog euthanized; there is a way to manage it. He's already been on an SO diet since March of 2023, and in a few weeks, will have the PU surgery; which my vet will do and lower the price as much as possible. I wasn't expecting the doctor to lie to me, I always want the truth when it comes to the health of my dog. But Jesus Christ, insinuating that urinary stones (even ones that can't be dissolved) cannot be managed and I'd have to euthanize him is absolutely unreal. The absolute panic I felt after that visit until I saw my vet was horrifying, I had a panic attack, I never want to feel that again. I would go back there, because I've been there once before and had a good experience. But I would never want to see Dr. Nani Cha. A veterinarian who thinks issues like this validate euthanasia, is unreal. If my dog was 15 years old, ok yeah, I wouldn't put him through surgery of course, I would medicate to keep him comfortable. Anyway, the techs were great, and we waited less than 5 minutes after we walked in to be seen. But yeah, really shitty, scary experience that wasn't necessary. read more

My cat is very skittish, even with my husband, but they have a cat whisperer at VEG and everything was calm and my cat was very well behaved. They are phenomenal. I do not write reviews often, but I had to for this. I had brought my boy Woody to the Veterinary Emergency Group. He was having a seizure, but when we got there with him, he had calmed down. They took a look at him, gave him blood work, and were very gentle with my boy. They explained to us what they had found from the blood work (which was nothing), but I was impressed with how kind, gentle, and technically detailed they were. We later brought him home, and he had another seizure and we brought him back eventually. The amount of seizures and intensity was getting worse. Eventually, he had a bad one in the clinic, and they were right there trying to help. We had to decide to put him down because the last one was too much for him. We are so grateful for the care that this group of veterinarians gave our dog, Jameson, during the last hours of his life, and the compassion they extended to me and my family. We brought Jameson there thinking and hoping he may have an upper respiratory infection or some other curable illness. As soon as the Vet nurse saw him she brought him right in and had a doctor appraise him. Immediately, they began to treat him and make him comfortable. They patiently explained what was happening to Jameson and what they would try to do to stabilize him. They got in touch with a specialist who would come and perform a risky procedure. Before that, they wanted to be sure that it would be worth our baby going through this. At some point his heart stopped, they quickly performed CPR and brought him back. The x-rays showed that he had multiple tumors. They gave us a private room so we could spend some time alone with him. While we held him, his heart gave out for the final time and he passed. They will kill your animal! Do not bring your bunny or pet here, they will kill it. They killed my rabbit sue to negligence. They are nothing but money hungry liars. They lied and said they were comfortable with a rabbit. They were not. I was there 3 hours and they did NOTHING for my rabbit who was in stasis but put her under stress, which I stated she gets VERY stressed easily. When I say they did nothing they literally did nothing. Took 3 hours to start an iv. When I saw she was declining I asked hey she is getting worse they were clueless. Realizing my rabbit had gone from hoping around to not breathing well I demanded that they release her immediately so I could take her to a real facility where she wouldn't be ignored. They took forever and finally disconnected h her gave some fluids made me pay 500 dollars and I ran to the 24 hour faculty in west islip. It took me yelling for them to finally move and get her out of there. Before I left I said she looks bad can I transport her they could oh she is just stressed she is ok. They clearly didn't know anything. When I asked the second dr there, dr fiore if she could look at my very sick now rabbit she said she was busy. My beautiful girl died in the car on the way to a real vet. After rounds of cpr and other methods they could not bring her back. The dr's at VEG's negligence and lack of concern killed my rabbit. It was UNETHICAL for them to lie to my face and not treat her. I asked the dr and staff multiple times of your too busy if you are not comfortable I WILL take her some where else and they kept telling me oh we are ok we are starting this now. I should have never taken her there or i should have left sooner. I will have this guilt forever . I did not leave my rabbit sick, I rushed her there immediately after I saw gi stasis had begun. I will be making a formal complaint against the facility and the dr who I will edit and add in once they send me her full name. as well as reporting the dr to the ny licensing board. When I called to inform them the rabbit died they didn't care as well. I will never go back and will tell anyone and everyone I know to never step foot at veg. I brought my cat here after he spent the day vomiting and not feeling well. We were going to bring him to the nearby vet but they were going to close soon. After a quick yelp search there were only two options but this seemed to have better reviews and I'm glad I choose to come here. My cat was expedited upon arrival and was brought in right away to check for vitals after learning the symptoms. They asked us to consult poison control since there were lilies in the home. The doctor was so kind and stated that my cat was currently stable but will be given a more thorough workup after she's done tending with the current animal. We sat maybe for 10-15 minutes inside the emergency room with our cat. The doctor typed down all the details and gave recommendations on what she plans to do. The ER visit itself was $175 which wasn't as bad. I liked that they sent a bill of what they proposed to do and how much it cost before actually performing them and getting surprised with the bill. If you were not comfortable with something they would gladly remove it. They ended up giving him IV electrolyte fluids, drawing blood to make sure the kidneys/liver were good, and an IV nausea medication. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and if I have a future emergency need I will bring him back! read more

I went to emergency today for my dog. This place is absolutely amazing. They were extremely accommodating and got her in right away to meet her needs. The staff is extremely warm, kind and helped us out during a stressful situation. Thank you for helping our Maddie, we are extremely grateful and can't recommend this place enough. Long long long wait times. Only one Veterinarian working at a time. The past three times I've HAD to bring my pet there ( chronic illness that's gotten worse) I've been left waiting for 2 hours,3 hours 10 minutes and last night it was 3 hours and 30 minutes before a doctor even took a peek at my cat. The doctor's are either overwhelmed or not in the practice of seeing emergency situations in a timely and efficient manner. It's ridiculous. The places is overcrowded and you only see Vet technicians while waiting. If I'm going to wait 3 hours with a sick pet I'd prefer a doctor take a peek to be sure my pet can wait hooouurrs to be seen. Oh and BTW last visit two I was "encouraged " by a tech and receptionist to try VEG's Commack location if I wasn't comfortable waiting for the Dr on duty at Carle Place. Umm, no thanks.
