Long long long wait times. Only one Veterinarian working at a time. The past three times I've HAD to bring my pet there ( chronic illness that's gotten worse) I've been left waiting for 2 hours,3 hours 10 minutes and last night it was 3 hours and 30 minutes before a doctor even took a peek at my cat. The doctor's are either overwhelmed or not in the practice of seeing emergency situations in a timely and efficient manner. It's ridiculous. The places is overcrowded and you only see Vet technicians while waiting. If I'm going to wait 3 hours with a sick pet I'd prefer a doctor take a peek to be sure my pet can wait hooouurrs to be seen. Oh and BTW last visit two I was "encouraged " by a tech and receptionist to try VEG's Commack location if I wasn't comfortable waiting for the Dr on duty at Carle Place. Umm, no thanks. My old girl, Nala, a 13-year-old domestic shorthaired feline, was having a seriously distressing time in her litter box, i.e. meowing and apparent straining. She's has a history of urinary bladder crystals; consequently, I was concerned she might be retaining a dangerously high amount of urine, unable to evacuate it, due to the latter obstructing her urethra. Under the advice of her current Vet, All Creatures Veterinary Hospital, in Long Beach, NY, which was closed; I took her to Veterinary Emergency Hospital, about 30 minutes from my residence. When I got there, I was pleasantly greeted, not typical of animal emergency facilities in my extensive experience, and waited about 20 minutes before being taken to an examining room. Once in the room, I was quickly met by a veterinary nurse who took Nala's vitals & sonogrammed her bladder. Fortunately, her bladder/urethra was not blocked. The only remaining concern was her intestinal tract. After a lengthy wait, due to other more life-threatening emergencies, Doctor Fiore gave her a rectal exam which was negative for fecal impaction. Doctor Fiore was thorough in her questioning, compassionate in her deportment, and did not make me feel the slightest bit uncomfortable. Further, she did not push for unnecessary testing and believed Nala encountered momentary intestinal distress. Finally, and surprisingly, the cost of all this exceptional service resulted in a far smaller bill than I have ever incurred from an emergency animal facility. Mind you, I have owned many animals and have visited numerous emergency treatment facilities; being presented with bills of several hundreds of dollars, even thousands, hasn't been unusual for me. The final cost was $170, their cost for a routine emergency visit; no additional charge for the sonogram! Mind you, while your waiting, they offer free refreshments & snacks! I felt like I died and went to "pet lovers" heaven; believe me, you'll feel the same. This large, well-staffed facility is a unique must-go-to for any pet owner in an emergency with their furry, family member. We've never had a dog with kennel cough before, so imagine our fear and stress when our puppy had a horrendous cough attack at midnight. We couldn't tell if he was choking, if his trachea was collapsing, or if something was wrong with his lungs. Either way, we felt helpless and our usual vet is not open 24/7. We arrived at VEG and Dr. Magnussen was amazing. She eased all of our concerns, did extra tests I asked for even though she was pretty certain x-rays weren't necessary just to give me peace of mind, and for an emergency vet visit, the bill wasn't anywhere near as bad as we expected it to be. The x-rays were the most expensive service and the team told us that upfront and then triple checked to ensure we were comfortable with that so we weren't blindsided. Dr. M kept checking in with us as we waited for our results and offered us refreshments, coffee, even cookies! Our pup has been on the antibiotics we were sent home with for a bit less than a week and is thankfully on the mend. read more

You guys were amazing when me and my significant other took my older cat to the vet cause we didn't know what was wrong with her that was a year ago. However, I went recently May 22nd, because my second cat wasn't acting normal. I brought her in at 1930-ish. I wasn't seen until 2100-2122-ish. Even then I was the last one basically there at 0000. I still felt as if she wasn't a case to worry about she also had a fever of 104.7 listen, I understood the really important cases which is by all means alright with me prioritize it. I called 4 days after to see if any results came back and I was told yes you guys did receive them and that someone would call later and explain the results. I call later cause I still hadn't received an email. I was told by a different person that those results weren't even ready and that the person who told me that provided me with incorrect information. I had a sense of hope of finally I get answers on why my beautiful baby was sick but it was false. I finally receive the email today but again I was told that someone would call and explain the results to me. I just called and got the snootiest person on the other line. I just want to understand what exactly these results meant however I didn't get that. How do you go from being amazing to this. I'm very unhappy with my current experience. read more

I'm more than happy to write this review, as I reflect on my experience with Veterinary Emergency Group. Warning, this may be a lengthy post but to all my paw parents, I'm sure they'll appreciate the details I've entailed, especially when it comes to the piece of mind offered after reading this review. My 9 & 1/2 year old pitbull mix had consistent diarrhea & mucus-filled poop for about a week until he stopped showing interest in dinner time OR walks altogether. This was incredibly concerning as he's normally full of energy and adventure (anyone with a rambunctious rescue knows what I'm talking about). We decided to call around as I'm new to the area and haven't had a chance to establish veterinary care, but was advised to take him into an ER since he was actively showing symptoms of what could be a serious problem. I called VEG first, initially feeling a little embarrassed for sounding like a 'nervous mom' but was assured by Brittany(sp?) that it was a good reason to bring him in. I was received with courtesy and extra consideration, especially since 1) he is reactive to other animals 2) his little sister was waiting in the car so naturally, she was allowed in. The nurses and vet techs were fantastic, clearly very experienced with reactive rescues, and patient enough to win over his trust. Then came in the doctor...Dr. Benson has by far one of the best bed-side manners I have ever encountered. Her easy-going nature & unpretentious attitude immediately set us as ease, we knew we were in good hands. She didn't spare herself and with everyone being consulted, I felt like it was a very "all hands on deck" situation. After taking the necessary tests to both, confirm the problem came from a backup of his gastrointestinal system and relieving the blockage, we all agreed it would be the most proactive to repeat the scans before sending him home with a probiotic, for good measure. I really appreciated how much Dr. Benson stuck around (long after she was meant to) and made herself available, as she assured that our case was being left in the capable hands of her colleagues. We brought him home and after 2 days of 'touch and go' I'm happy to report that all is back to normal [for anyone interested, we gently reintroduced feeding until he was able to advance to his normal diet]. I was very impressed by the treatment my cat received this evening. Dr. Mio and his staff were very caring and professional. They were very kind and loving towards my cat and took the the time to answer any questions I had. There was a bit of a wait, but my cats condition wasn't a big emergency and I understood (and didn't mind) that I had to wait for other animals with a more severe illness. So glad we went here. My friend took her cat here and suggested it to me if I ever needed an emergency vet. My boyfriend and I took our dog there tonight because she was having accidents and peeing blood. Everyone we spoke with was so nice to us and out dog. They were very sensitive toward her shyness and anxiety. The vet actually went out of his way to save us a lot of money on her antibiotics, which was so helpful. The only veterinary practice I've seen so far that has a genius stand up x-ray machine!! A lot of places try to push to sedate because the pet has to be lying down on one side but I do not like sedating unless really necessary. The prices are very reasonable for an emergency vet. The office fee was $149 and the x-ray was $152. They were very gentle with my German Shepherd who wasn't feeling good. The vet was very kind and straightforward in explaining the x-ray results. The only feedback I can say it's not open 24/7 on weekdays! :( PLEASE PLEASE consider becoming 24/7! The other emergency vets in the area are nowhere near as highly rated and I have trust in VEG. read more

Took my sisters dog there for upper respiratory issues that we were worried was more serious then it seemed. They did a thorough exam and gave us options including recommendation to go to a different facility that had the tools and technologies to look up his nose. When we took that advice they did not charge us for an emergency visit on a Sunday after they spent 30 minutes with him. 2022- Please take the time to read this. I grew up with 5 dogs in my house, and they were loved endlessly. As you can imagine, we cumulatively spent hours over the years at the vet/clinic/hospital etc. About a month ago, my parents found our Lola lifeless on our couch. Mineola animal didn't have a vet that day......which in hindsight was a blessing because it led them into these front doors. I can't begin to describe the staff at this Veterinary Emergency Group. In all those years and hours spent in/with our old vet they never made us feel like the way they did here. The receptionist was warm and kind, and though the future looked uncertain, her demeanor was contagious and calmed us down almost immediately. We had to leave Lola there, but they kept us in the loop and sent my mom texts/picture updates, it has me in tears now writing this. We split up visiting 1 at a time to keep Lola company, and opposed to avoiding eye contact or just saying hi, the staff stopped and explained to each and every one of us what was happening. I was the 4th family member they relayed the situation to, and they explained it to me with such delicacy and grace regardless. They didn't expect me to know from my family, they took the time to speak to us all individually. They offered to send results/images to our primary vet, even when the need to make a decision was evident, just to reassure us. I knew then that if I were going to lose my best friend, I wanted it to be with them, and I really really mean that. They gave us a private room and genuinely made us feel like there was no pressure on time. Just so grateful. We decided to receive her ashes, which we have never done due to odd feelings about it. My parents were blown away at the memorial box/bag/paw print, card, and even listed resources. I think of those who have no one that lose their pet, and how they included that information has me crying a third time. I hope you do not need their services in the future, but words can't adequately express the character and integrity of the staff at VEG. Thankful, appreciative, and grateful just do not adequately express how I feel, I am sending only love and good things to everyone there. They go above and beyond. 9/30/23- We found ourselves back with our dog Brody and again received the best care by the Carle Place Veg team. The circumstances bringing us back were not anywhere as urgent, but I couldn't help but cry as the last time being there involved making the most difficult decision. I was so embarrassed for crying at 7am in an entirely manageable situation, but Dr. Cohen(I really hope I got her name right) and Dr. Magnuson were so deeply warm and kind. I send anyone and everyone I know to veg, if there were a spokesperson, put me in the commercial. I don't get passionate about many things, but when someone says they need an emergency vet I go through a previously memorized laundry list monologue of why you are a fool to go elsewhere. All I can say is that there was a complete lack of regard when I brought in an injured stray cat. I found an injured young cat on the side of the LIE and brought her in. When I arrived I had to sign waiver that she was not mine but waited around for hours because I wanted to help and then was told that the cat was doing fine and I could leave. I left my number as I told the staff that I was willing to adopt her because I knew she would need a home and heard absolutely nothing back. I called a day later only to find out that the cat was put down and got no reason, no explanation. Terrible experience. I hope the cat is resting easy. read more

Realistically I know that may not always be possible, but we waited almost 2 hours, & they only came to us because while waiting, Sam had another large Seizure! We had Sam there before & they knew he has Cushings Syndrome, but Sam lay on the hard floor while one MD shaved matts out of a dogs fur! We chose this Vet ER because you can stay with your pet, but ANY ER, human or otherwise, prioritize the care according to the urgency of their needs. A senior dog with serious health issues who is seizing takes priority over clipping tangles out of a dogs fur! I hope nothing like this EVER happens again! This place disgusts me. I took my cat here a few months ago and the doctor on duty couldn't of been nicer. My cat wasn't eating, wasn't drinking water, and had severe diarrhea at the time. I brought her in late at night and they accommodated us right away. The next day my cat still wasn't doing good and i was too upset to call so i had my fiancé call on speaker and I'm so glad i did because the lady was so rude that i wouldn't of been able to handle It. He explained to her what was going on and asked if they thought she would be okay or if we should bring her back or not....the lady's exact words were "i can't tell you if she's going to be okay or not and honestly even if you bring her in i can't guarantee she will live and we will be able to help her" She was so cold and rude we couldn't believe It. WHO SAYS THAT TO SOMEONE!?!? That lady should not be anywhere near a telephone or working in customer service. I ended up taking her to my vet who was so nice helped nurse my cat back to health and even called me on his personal time to check up on her. That's the type of place i want to give my money too. I'm still amazed how there's actually a 24 hour veterinary emergency room that is this compassionate and with a stellar reputation. I live in Queens and I've read so many horror stories about the vet ER's in my area with horrendous reviews, prayed that I would never have to visit them. Thankfully, I found VEG Carle Place. We drove my 16-17 year old maltipoo in for recurring seizures after coming home from work and finding him unresponsive and seizing. I did my best at home with what I know to help him, but came to the decision that he needed to see a vet immediately. I am a one nurse of many in my family and know excellent patient care when I see it. I carried my dog in around 2:30-3am and as I sat down in the exam area, one of the staff members noticed immediately that my dog started seizing again. She took him and they all began their care. Took vitals, started an IV, pushed meds, fluids, etc. Dr. Akayya sat down with me and truly appreciate how honest she was with me. A lot of vets out there would try and do every test under the sun immediately to try and run up the bill, but not here. Her first question to me was what our goal was with snowy. I told her that my family was going to begin making arrangements for palliative care early this week with our primary vet. This was a Saturday night/Sunday morning, so both my primary vets were closed and this was our only option. We just did not expect him to decline this much so quickly. We chose to keep him comfortable and stayed all night with our little snowy until my family could come in early morning so that we may all say our last goodbyes before putting him to sleep. Dr. Akayya even chose to stay passed her shift to personally handle the cremation proceedings and to put him to sleep. I want to thank Dr. Akayya and the rest of this amazing team for their phenomenal care. I hope I never have to come here again, but am glad that I have a veterinary team as excellent as this to fall back on. God bless all of you! read more

Came in tonight after I was referred by my private vet who could not get us in on time. My little beauty had a scuffle last night with a cat but I didn't realize the extent of the injury until this afternoon since she has so much hair. From the front desk check in until check out, I felt so well taken care of. I'm so bad with names but the young black gentlemen who took her vitals was THE ABSOLUTE BEST! He was gentle, caring, explanatory and helped to calm Bella while I couldn't. The vet per the text message I rcvd was Dr.Elie Miodownik and he was excellent. He was very personable and jumped right into action! Gave follow up care instructions which isn't much and was very thorough. I have no fear of this turning worse & they assured me of that. Everyone made sure that I was alright and prioritized. I hope I don't ever have to but if I do ever need an emergent vet again, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to take the drive. read more

I brought my dog in Tuesday night because he was very weak, short of breath, and not eating or drinking for 2 days. After performing an x-ray, I was told there doesn't seem to be anything major wrong with him. He's just getting a little older and had some congestion, and it was making him weak. I was given some congestion medicine and was told to keep an eye on him for a day or two. The next morning, we found that he passed away in the night. This is infuriating! My little guy was dying, and we were just sent off with some cough medicine! I would think that if my dog was hours from death, they should have known and at least told me that this was a possibility. read more

I was recommended to VEG (by my neighbor who has 12 cats), when my own 11-year-old cat was having breathing problems. I was happy to find a place that was open at that time in order to get my cat checked. They seemed very friendly when we arrived and got us in to see someone pretty quickly. They did an ultrasound which showed that my cat had heart failure, and both his lungs were filled with fluid. After putting together some cost quotes upon request for additional testing - which was quite expensive - they let me know that there was no guarantee of survival regardless. So, I made the heart-wrenching decision to put him out of his pain/struggle and euthanize. They agreed and supported my decision. They explained the procedure. Shave his paw/put in an IV. Sedation would be given and then euthanize until his heart stopped. They also had options for cremation which we opted for before they began. Two people (who I think were nurses or assistants? it wasn't made clear) came in to start the process - when we were ready. When my cat was examined with the doctor initially, he put up no fight, allowed them to do the ultrasound with no issues. No biting. No hissing. No clawing. He is not an aggressive cat at all. This time - one held him down and the other started to shave his paw - still no real issues at first. When they proceeded to put in the needle/IV - the cat felt pain and went to bite/hiss/claw one of the nurses. The next thing I saw was blood dripping, I wasn't sure if it was the cat or the nurse. It actually was both. Both nurses ran out of the room leaving us with a bleeding cat - that my daughter wrapped a blanket over and put pressure on his bleeding paw. Blood on the floor and all. I was in shock at what was going on. Especially, in a time of such emotional distress for my family and my cat. It seemed quite unprofessional and just plain stupid - not to sedate a cat first before preforming this procedure. Whether a cat is aggressive by nature or not - I can't see why they wouldn't assume the cat might react to the pain. It's a cat for Christ's sake. They left us in there for a bit and then after we calmed the cat, I was about to throw some tissues on the floor to cover the blood and someone else burst in the door with a mop and told me not to touch it. A few minutes after that, the doctor came back in and said that because the cat bit the nurse - and because my cat hadn't been vaccinated recently, the cat would have to be sent to the Department of Health after euthanized for testing for rabies etc. 'As per Protocol'. So, my cat couldn't be cremated as per our plan and that we would hear from the Department of Health after testing as to what the next steps would be. But they didn't know for sure and couldn't give any other information to us at that time. Then sent another person in the room to sedate the cat first - and then continue the same process of shaving another separate paw and inserting the IV once the cat was sedated. Which worked smoothly and should have been done initially!! Before doing so - she asked us if my cat was always a 'bad' cat. Yes, she used the word 'bad' in describing my dying cat. We were stunned by the question and my daughter asked her - well it depends on what you consider 'bad'. This nurse then responds with 'well if he's biting - that's bad'. Answering her own question. I was fuming angry at this point at what she said and at their lack of information and the distress they put my cat under in his last hours. As well as it was very upsetting that cremation wasn't an immediate option, and they couldn't tell me if it would be. Had zero answers for me about this supposed 'Protocol'. They then left us with my dead cat in a room without checking on us and letting us know if we could leave after 2 or 3 times asking them what is to happen next or if we had to pay etc. I voiced my distress and discontent to one of the assistants that was very kind to us initially and she agreed that she wasn't sure why the cat wasn't sedated first. She also said they were trying to 'figure out' what needed to be done about the bite. So, I assumed we needed to wait for that info. Never got it. Fast forward to another 20 minutes, someone else saw me standing at the doorway and asked if I was waiting for something. I couldn't believe it. So, I said in a very not nice way, that it seems like there's a lot of confusion here and no one is telling us if it's okay to leave. She says - ok - yes, you can check out at the desk. Smh. Are you serious? We quickly checked out and left. Needless to say, I'm not going to be a returning or referring customer. read more

After speaking to the office manager Joanna I was told the person I had came in contact with was just a fill in for another doctor. To say the least the actual staff here is very kind. I watched them do some amazing things while I was here. Most of all they were honest And very forth right with each of their patients. Even though other pet parents weren't there they still did their very best to take care of each animal! Dr. Benson Dr Fiore Dr Mio Dr. Akido we're a few of the doctors I experienced while I was there and I'm forever indebted to them for there professionalism and they compassion in which they treated my cat. Kudos to this facility. The kindness , professionalism and caring of the vets and staff is above and beyond belief! We caught a severely injured young cat two nights ago. It had been hiding around our condo for at least two days. We brought him to the Carle Place emergency hospital. The vet evaluated the cat. It had a broken spine and severe infection.
