Within the last six years, they have now saved the life of TWO of our beloved pets, and my family is so blessed to have this emergency vet so close to home. In 2017, we brought in our male cat (2 years old at the time) who had a blockage due to urinary crystals, and this week we had to take in our 8 year old female dog who had a blockage from multiple bladder stones. They were able to clear our cat by just flushing, no surgery, but our dog required surgery to remove the stones. In both cases, my pets had to be monitored overnight, and in both cases my wife and I were absolutely blown away by the quality of care and the deep compassion of the doctors and nurses. Everyone is incredibly caring, and provides each pet and pet parent with individual attention no matter how busy they are. The check-in process is very thorough and they gather as much information as possible. The diagnostics and testing are done successively, meaning that they won't just do everything on a checklist all at once and dump you with a huge bill. They work one step at a time to narrow down the care required so that you only pay for the least amount required for your pet's condition. I feel that they are extremely transparent with their billing process, you do have to pay up front, but if they overcharge someone they are honest and will do a refund for the services not performed. This morning when we picked up our dog we ended up getting a partial refund, and I believe they are very honest with the charges. VES is open 24/7 and is happy to receive calls at any hour regarding updates on your pet's progress and condition. The discharge instructions were very clear for us, and they took the time to go over everything, all the results and instructions and answered every question we had, without making us feel rushed. They provided all prescriptions, including a case of prescription food, so that we were fully set up for a couple weeks when we walked out the door. I also just noticed that they trimmed my dogs nails while she was there! They provided paper instructions and receipts, but also emailed me the same results AND the x-rays, and automatically sent everything over to our normal vet. Our male cat luckily hasn't had a single issue with a blockage since switching his food, and our female dog seems to be healing well and is currently resting. If you are in the local area, I will recommend Veterinary Emergency Service over any other emergency care. They have saved the life of two of our pets, and my family will forever treasure the additional years we get to have with both of them now. read more

Emergency services... When they get around to it. Luckily when we took our pet in here it wasn't an emergency, just a concern about incredibly runny stool for multiple days after her spay. Sat in an overly crowded parking lot for 3 hours waiting to be seen. Then an additional hour for a standard wellness check. The floor is really dirty inside with blood and other things from other pets. Someone needs to be cleaning that floor regularly. When we got brought into the lobby, we had to wait another fifteen minutes and it was so difficult to hold our dog from licking random things that could get her sick. The bill for a simple health check? $150 and would have been close to $1000 if they didn't call us while we were sitting out in the car to say that they wanted to do xrays, stool sample, and give her a bunch of medication. We left with no additional information that we didn't already Google. Don't bother with this place. It's falling apart and can't handle the stream of sick pets in the area. This needs to be a much bigger building with a bigger staff. And the prices here are absolutely outrageous. read more

This place was a disappointment! I feel like this place used to be good. We brought KitKat here on June 7th. We get here around 6:00pm and we tell them what's going on and they inform us that a Veterinary won't be in until 7pm. What's the point of being an emergency vet when there isnt a doctor on the premises all the time !!! So we leave and come back at 7:30pm. We were able to bring her in and we were told to wait in the car and the doctor would call us shortly. So we get a call about 10pm and the doctor says well they want to do an x-ray and some blood work to see what shows up. Bloodwork came back pretty normal as well as the x-ray. So she decides to treat my cat for "back pain". She said when she petted her back she cried so that's what she was led to believe. So she said someone would call us shortly for discharge. They didn't call us until 11:30. So 4.5 hours to say my cat has back pain? That's absurd! So we had the report faxed over to our regular vet. We just got into our vet Monday, June 19th. As the vet was going over the report she was looking at the x-ray and said she didn't understand how the emergency vet could miss something like this. She stated that she had some type of fluid in her abdomen which led her to believe she either has one of 3 things: a parasite, pancreatitis or cancer. The x-ray showed that the fat in her belly (which should be clear) but in the x-ray it showed up as lacey. What a very bad experience. Please do not bring your pets here! I also see the other awful reviews. So to sum it up this vet said she had some type of back pain when in turn she has advanced stage of cancer. What a joke ! Dr Michael Severin killed my dog for money. I got messages from a tech that worked with him apologizing because when I brought my dog in they knew she was dying. Instead of humanely euthanIzing her, he told me she needed fluids and kept her suffering in a crate all day. They then charged me $2000 and said she had to be put down. He didn't even give her enough medication to put her asleep and she was gasping for air. It was so horrible. He's a monster. I don't feel like the staff here was compassionate to our situation with our poor baby, he for very sickly very quickly. The issue I had is that I took him on Monday, and they wanted to keep him overnight. It wasn't mentioned until after i signed the money that they aren't open Tuesday or Wednesday so in the event they wanted to keep him longer, he would need to be transferred which ultimately based on his labs he definitely needed to be kept longer and I think initially he should've been transferred and that should have been communicated to us. To withhold that information, and make us transfer our sick dog to a second vet place was just horrible. We were in so much stress and grief from the acute infection we truly did not look at the door for hours ourselves, we expected the doctor and staff to be upfront about that and they were not. read more

I think all I can say is: they did their best. As in they did what they felt was the best option. This establishment is really just there to hold your pet over until you can get to your actual vet. I took my dog here four times over a month due to various issues and everything they diagnosed was wrong. I had to pay THOUSANDS of dollars for medication that did nothing, X-rays that were not needed or ever used, $165 exam fees, and they were never able to give me any answer as to what was wrong. They even tried to convince me to hospitalize her. Which again, THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I took her to the actual vet and she had cancer. A week later she was dead. I'm not sure why this establishment doesn't have better testing? And I'm not sure why they give medication as just a "try it". Thanks for your effort I guess? But it did nothing. We took our dog here because he had a severe laceration on his back paw. I called before even going because another animal hospital closer was booked up completely. Whoever I spoke with on the phone was very nice and pleasant to talk with even though I was having a panic attack because I had blood all over my kitchen floor. Upon arrival it wasn't really that busy inside but the parking lot had quite a few cars. I started filling the paper work out and a tech came and got our dog to take in the back. We waiting in the car for probably around 30 minutes and someone called us and told us exactly what needed to be done and told us to go home and they would call us in about 2 hours when everything was done. About 2.5 hours later they called and said he was ready to be picked up. The lady at the front desk was nice to us. They gave us a really nice breakdown of every single thing we were getting charged for which was nice to see because the price for anesthesia and stitches was quite higher than I expected but it was Sunday at 7pm there's not much you can do. We went into the examination room and one of the techs came and brought us out dog (she was very nice even though her shift ended right after she was done talking to us, she never showed a single sign of not caring about our questions we had for post op). I was nervous about going here because of the reviews but I would bring either of our dogs back here if we had another emergency. After reading a few negative reviews I feel like people bring a dog here that they think is an emergency but it truly is not. Just because your dog has loose stool doesn't mean this place is going to have you in and out in 30 minutes. We took our dog here because he had a paw pad nearly hanging off his foot and they did what they needed to do. My 10(almost 11) year old shih tzu had gastrointestinal issues that caused vomiting all day (12+ times). This was the only vet in Oakland and Macomb county that had availability to see him, gave him a prompt and correct diagnosis and sent him home with a special diet, give him IV fluids and nausea meds all in 2 hours. I thought they were very reasonably priced for the amount of work done. Hopefully puppy will be healthy and won't need a return visit but I would recommend them to anyone! Friendly enough. They tell me she will need stitches, which I assumed. So they take her to the back, and then come to me with a quoted bill. It is over $1,000. I'm stunned. I can't afford this I say. They offer me a credit card application with 6 months financing and tell me I can fill that out, or have someone else apply for me over the phone. Ultimately I did what I had to do to find the money, but my dog at her regular vet has has surgery for a mass removal and stitches and antibiotics and pain pills and that cost around $400. While I'm very grateful my dog is okay, but the pricing is taking advantage of distressed pet owners and making an already bad situation potentially life ruining. On Sunday we had to bring our 16 year dog to this emergency vet. After I took him for a walk he started to act funny and his entire body was shaking within 2 hours. It turns out during our walk he ingested a toxic drug. The staff was very friendly and kept us informed the entire time. He had to stay overnight. The bill came to $1800 which is a lot but honestly I don't care about the money as long as they saved my baby. I'm very thankful that they saved my fur baby and that he is still in our life. I don't understand the negative reviews based on costs. ANY emergency service is expensive, humans or animals! We had to take our dog twice over the past couple months for a serious cut on her paw and then after she was attacked by another dog. Both times she needed sedation and sutures, I knew it would be expensive. Her regular vet did follow up appointments both times and said the care our dog received was really good and they agreed with her treatments. The staff here is friendly and upfront about the costs before treatment. I believe you have a chance to say no and go elsewhere if you don't like it. read more

Do not take your pets here!! While I was on vacation, my mom was watching our fur baby. During this time It seemed he had a stroke. We called this place and told them that my mom was on her way with our pup and for them to be ready. I've had multiple pets treated at this establishment in the past. To be honest, they did what needed to be done and I didn't run into issues myself. They are extremely expensive, but so are most emergency vets as I know. One experience I can share though relates to one of my boy kitties who had a urinary tract blockage. I was dismayed that they released him to me without first assuring he was able to urinate on his own. From what I've since read, it's typically required to keep kitties hospitalized and confirm this before they go home. Fortunately for us, he was okay. I made up my mind afterwards to not go there again though. Felt distrustful of their form of treatment, and don't feel like risking my pets in any way. Important note: I don't think these folks can call themselves a 24 hour service when it's quite common for no vet to be in staff. Be aware. read more

If I could give them a 10 I would. Me and my cat have been through so much trying to find an ER for him. He had an infection in his mouth and had to be sedated to drain it etc. Before coming here I went to advanced emergency center in Clinton township (I wouldn't recommend this to anyone) I got no results what so ever and they send us home. My cat was still not eating after being already 24hrs with no good or drink. I called around everywhere and had no luck. Finally called this place and they were able to get me in right away. Please do not bother going to this location. The staff members are so unfriendly and rude. I visited this vet because my newborn kitten was showing a fading kitten syndrome and I wasn't sure what the problem was so I decided to drop in at 4 am to him checked. They did a physical exam, x-ray but was unable to run a blood test on him due to the lack of equipment at the moment. At the checkout, one of the technician spoke to me about the kitten's condition and she told me I could call back the ver if I had any questions. They prescribed me some antibiotics which I fed him following the instructions and fed the kitten KMR. Despite following all the instructions carefully, the kitty's condition seemed to be worsening (which I understand it's not vet's responsibility) so I called the vet again to ask some questions regarding the clear liquid that was coming out from his mouth. The person who picked up the phone said they cannot give me any advice over the phone despite the fact I explained that I visited the clinic this morning. I don't know why they would tell me I could call in for any questions if they were just going to turn it down. They alarming told us that the dog needed to be seen within 1-2 hours, so we got him there immediately. I can't speak to others' experiences in the bad reviews, but VES was good to me and my kitty. She was coughing and gagging (not the normal hairball sounds) and acting unlike herself, so I thought she might have an obstruction in her throat. I had to get her into a vet same day, and this was the closest place to us that was open 24 hours and able to take her. They had me bring my cat inside and fill out paperwork, then unfortunately I couldn't go into the room with her and had to wait in my car instead of the lobby (just like most places now due to COVID concerns.) They took her back and I waited about an hour before they called me to let me know she was being examined. They told me on the phone what they were going to do before they did it, so I was able to decline the extra bloodwork that I can get at my normal vet. When I asked the price of the work they were doing before they did it, they told me right away - all you have to do is ask so you aren't blindsided by costs, which will always be more at an emergency place (same as urgent care for humans.) They called again and kept me up to date on what was going on, which I appreciated. Thankfully my cat was not choking on anything and the x-rays confirmed that; they also emailed me a copy of the x-rays and her diagnosis of a lung infection, in addition to sending them to my usual vet. They called a final time to let me know I could come back inside for her discharge. I was given 2 weeks' worth of antibiotics and instructions for her care. Kitty was upset by some dogs barking but didn't seem traumatized when she came out. I had pleasant enough interactions with all 4 people I spoke with at VES. The person at the front desk, the tech who took her inside, the doctor on the phone, and the doctor who gave me her discharge information were all nice enough and clear in their instructions. I was very worried by the negative reviews, which again I don't know their situations, but this place was able to help us when no one else could. I would recommend checking in with your usual vet if possible, but in an emergency you can't wait weeks for an appointment. read more

Absolutely do not recommend this place. I pay $3000 for ER service for my cats bladder to be unblocked and they sent him home before he could even produce and expel urine on his own. Essentially, I paid $3000 for incomplete services and now I have to pay another (better) ER vet $3000 for the services VES did not complete - YET CHARGED ME FOR. Other vets will have some cats stay more than 24 hours to ensure that they are able to urinate on their own proving their unblocking procedure was successful. **Please read full review**. This was the most ridiculous veterinary experience I have ever had. I took my 12 year old pit bull in at 9:30 pm for bloody stool and rectum. They immediately wanted to do a bunch of testing, X-rays and an examination of the area. After that $365 was spent and an hour later they threw a very generic we are not sure what it is diagnosis. No review of x-rays or breakdown of what they found in blood work. As I was talking with Abby, the only employee I found helpful, I asked if his anal glands were full/ruptured that could be causing the blood source. She said that she would express them and noticed a cut on his anus that she cauterized. So my running total with meds at that point was $465 and the vet, Dr. Michael something, was unable to see that during an examination!?!? Let alone feel full glands while in there!?!? Never showed me the x-rays for potential blockage or masses. Just asked I sign and continue to hand over my method of payment. I would pay anything for my dog, please don't mistake this review as angry because I had to spend money. When there is a veterinarian office that clearly price gouges to take advantage of scared pets and owners is what I have a severe issue with. Clearly I thought that could have been the end of my journey with my dog and they completely cashed in on my emotions. They should be ashamed of themselves, with the exception of Abby. A 24-hour veterinarian is only probably appreciated when that off hour emergency happens, those people are saviors when those instances occur. But if you find yourself in that situation I would urge you to avoid this clinic and find an alternative if time permits. Diego is good today with his expressed glands and a "bandaid" on his cut. I'm not quite sure how to properly rate this place. On one hand, I was able to get in very quickly with my new puppy when I was in a panic. We rushed over at 7:45 on a Saturday, and saw a doctor by 8:30. The gals at the front desk were friendly. On the other hand, I don't have much of anything positive to say beyond these things. WARNING: this post is very long, but I want to be sure I get out as many details as possible in order to help people make an educated choice on whether or not to bring their precious pets here. I wish I hadn't. As an emergency vet, I would recommend your front desk people not tell you to "please wait a minute" as they stand behind the counter counting cash. I was panicked, not knowing what was wrong with my dog, and had to wait about 5 long minutes (maybe longer) waiting for someone to give me a new patient form as my dog waited alone, injured in the car. The head doctor even walked up and saw me standing there, and didn't say a word or ask if I'd been helped. When I asked the nice front desk lady if I could fill out the paperwork while she worked on that, I was shushed and told to wait. Nothing feels worse than feeling like your emergency is not enough of an emergency to them. We came in due to excessive bleeding from my puppy's paw, with the cause unknown and me unable to bandage her up without her crying to the touch. The bleeding would not stop, and I feared something might be stuck in her paw or she might need stitches. She had just been recovering from spay surgery (surgery was 2 days prior to our visit), so I made sure the doctor knew this before he took a look at her, as she was on a pain medication and a sedative. Much to my surprise, when he returned with the "estimate", it showed that she had been given another controlled substance. I was not happy. The "estimate" broke down what I would be paying for, which was her paw to be bandaged, an exam, and antibiotics. The "estimate" showed her diagnosis as "Bleeding Paw" - um, duh? When I asked how this could have happened or how to prevent it, the doctor explained that these things just happen to some dogs, and didn't offer any possible explanations. He mentioned that to prevent it from happening again, paw pad tissue removal might be required. The "estimate" has been described in quotations because by the time it had been presented to me, these things had already been done/administered. There was no way around the total amount, which came to a whopping $500. Of course, I am happy to pay any price to make sure my dog is safe and healthy, but in the moment I knew that this didn't feel right. The unfortunate thing, is that this establishment knew that I was not in a position to ask the right questions, or refuse these payments. Why? Vulnerability. This is my first puppy, and being in a scary situation where you don't know what is exactly wrong can be very terrifying. I'm not a vet, I don't know what the wrong or right thing to do is. Once my dog was all done, she was brought out to me trembling. So, visibly upset, I paid for our visit and we left. The doctor had mentioned that the cause for her injury had to do with a tissue/birth defect, so I was sure to call our normal vet right away. When I spoke to our regular vet after they were able to inspect my pup, they confirmed my suspicions. I had been ripped off. They were able to give her an exam, new bandage, medication for $35. When you are in a dire, emergency situation in our area, there are not many places to go. For this, I would say that this place would be the best bet for you on the weekend if your normal vet isn't open. Most vets have an emergency line or a referral to somewhere you can call/take your pet when they are closed. I'd advise everyone to check with their vets on who to call/where to go before coming here. I wish I had read other reviews, but again, I was in a panic. Be careful, ask questions, and don't find yourself afraid to speak up when you know something is wrong like I did. I urge this vet to please read reviews, and make the necessary changes to bettering their business. You are in the healthcare and service industry, and essential worker. We NEED you to care for us and our dogs, especially in a time when so many people are struggling. Emotionally, and financially. My dog ate a corn on the cob. This was the second place I called as the hospital closest to my home said they were completely full for the night. They were extremely helpful on the phone, I didn't have to wait at all to talk to somebody. They told me exactly what to expect before I got to the hospital, including cost. Mika at reception kept things moving super efficiently, but also with compassion. I felt like the team here knew exactly what to do. They communicated more clearly than our regular vet does. The entire process was a well oiled machine. I would definitely come here again. But hopefully I don't have to. Lol. read more
