I disagree with the reviews, I personally have had a great experience with this ER vet. Took my cat in a month ago at night because he had trouble breathing. I called ahead to let them know I was on my way, the worker was pleasant and informative on the process due to COVID. When we arrived they took my cat back right away and though I had to wait for a few hours they kept me updated throughout the evening on the status, pricing and what was going on. The vet was very polite, and explained everything very thoroughly. For an ER vet they of course were pricey, but this is expected as all of them are. However, they ensured price wise that nothing was a surprised and kept me posted as tests were needed what the cost would be beforehand. The staff and vet were wonderful to interact with, my cat when he was returned to me was in MUCH better condition and they correctly diagnosed him which my primary vet and I are caring for. I would highly recommend this vet for your emergency needs with your fur babies and if I ever am in need of an emergency vet in the future they will be my go to location. read more

I did not by their meds which they wanted 350 dollars. The male doctor was rude and barely said anything. I hope they shut this place down. This place was amazing and helped my cat with a UTI when I was not able to get into my regular vet. Everyone I spoke to here was so kind and compassionate. You drop off your pet, and wait in your car. They called me often to keep me informed on her progress. The cost was similar to what I paid my regular vet a few years ago for the same issue. They are very busy, so be patient. But they were open and available when my vet was not. They listened and answered my questions, when my vet didn't. The ladies that answer the phone are great, even with my follow up questions and issues after our initial visit. Hopefully, I don't need emergency services again for my pets , but If i do, I would come here again. Thank you ! read more

Took my cat in for some vomiting issues and was charged to run a whole round of tests for a total for $676. They had already taken my cat with them in the back when I was provided the estimate, and i definitely felt pressured to sign and pay. Obviously, I just wanted what's best for my cat, so if paying some large fee would help figure out what's wrong with her, great. Lo and behold, I'm now eating crow for not going with my gut feeling, since she only received injections to give a day's relief from the vomiting, and for all testing to come up negative. I was advised to keep an eye on her, only for her to start vomiting again a couple days later. I've attempted to call back in to express my disappointment of the costs going to complete waste and having no information what could be wrong. I was told they have a 24 hr policy for bringing pets back in for follow up for no additional cost, if for a related incident. I honestly find this awful, since the injections given were to provide relief, which was obviously temporary. Feeling like I was set up for failure and pressured into a purchase I did not want to do, only to be forced into paying more money when my cat started showing the same symptoms later. Emergency vets seem to be great when they can identify the problem and operate as transparently as possible. This is not one of those places. High costs, I understand given urgency and how late they're open. Taking advantage of desperate pet owners is something I will never understand. read more

I'm not questioning the negative reviews of this place, because I could see how in a more panicked state or with a more serious injury to a pet than I experienced, extra care and empathy may be needed. However, I had two (for the most part) positive experiences here. I had to take my male cat in on a Sunday back in March for a UTI. Because male cats are prone to blockage that could potentially be life-threatening, I had to take him as soon as possible and this place had the shortest wait time after calling around to other emergency vets in the area. When I got there, I did the paperwork and dropped him off with the receptionist and was told to go back to my car to wait. It was about an hour before I got a call from the doctor explaining what he had seen and asked if I would approve an x-ray and some other tests, which I did. All the while, yes, cringing at the prices... but hey, it's emergency care and I knew it would be a lot. About 45 minutes or so later, I got another call about the results of the tests - thankfully they were negative and then in another 20 minutes or so I got a call to come pay and pick up my dude. All in all, it took almost 3 hours. The cost hurts, yes... but I doubt that another emergency vet would be significantly less. Unfortunately about two months later, my cat was exhibiting UTI symptoms again and this time it was in the evening during the week. So again I had to take him to an ER. I went here again since I was familiar with it and had almost the exact same experience. I found the staff to be friendly and not rushed considering it's an emergency vet. Which I appreciated, but I can also see how that would be frustrating if your pet is in a more urgent situation than mine was. I can't speak to the other negative reviews, but I was pleased with the care that was given to both me and my cat when I was here. read more

Make the hike to Washington MI for Wilson's emergency vet. DONT GO HERE After the emergency night I noticed a lump on my dog. I called and the woman on the phone was so unprofessional. She just asked 'well was it there when you were here? You have to call your vet. The dr said call your vet' mind you I was brief and to the point just seeking input etc. no compassion no empathy nothing. First off Emergency services are expensive no matter if it is for an animal or a human. Any review of this place should be about the service you receive when you take your animals here not about cost. My experience with this clinic is that they are efficient, kind and experienced. When you call them on your way and tell them the issue they take notes and prepare for your arrival. They are also very upfront over the phone about the costs and different financing options available to you. Upon arrival they immediately step into action to assist your pet while you fill out paperwork and provide needed information. This is called good service in the emergency Veterinary services world. My Aunt is a Veterinarian and I have spent a lot of time in clinics. I know this place is exceptional from experience. Please ignore the reviews that are crazy. Yeah all the bad reviews you're reading about this place, yes YOU!! THE READER. Don't bring your pet here. The vet that helped us was a white dude with glasses and he worked the night hours. My dog wasn't being herself and so the vets decision was to give her anti vomit injections into her anus. That's all he did and sent us home. $600.00 bill. Literally walked 5 feet out of the door and our dog SHOT diarrhea horizontally like a foot out. The next day she was so lethargic she wouldn't open her mouth, it felt clamped shut. Hours later she had a seizure in my arms and died. On my birthday. Also,I'm typing this 3 years after the fact. We were struggling to even pay the vet bill at the time let alone to pay for an autopsy to find out why she died. This vet sucks. Charlie our little yorkie got sick in the middle of the night. He vomited multiple times and then started vomiting blood. Called veterinary emergency services and they said bring him right in. They did tests and determined he had hemorrhagic gastric issues. He was dehydrated and once there had bloody diarrhea also. They kept him overnight and most of the next day He had IV fluids and antibiotics. Took him home with meds and prescription food. He is doing so much better. Lesson learned for me was NO table scraps. The vet was fabulous and Charlie is on the mend read more

I also disagree with the negative reviews. This place was one of the only emergency vets that let us bring in our sick/injured dog. All the other places told us they were full and not accepting animals. That is very hard to hear when your dog can't walk or hold her head up and your regular vet is closed. VES was very honest and told us the wait time and how many pets were in front of our dog. The front staff handled all of the pressure very well and were never unkind. The communication with the vet was thorough and great. While we were there a very long time waiting in the parking lot we were very pleased and grateful for the kind staff. I would definitely recommend VES and Dr Sweeton for any emergency needs. read more

I'm posting this review because I wish I would've listened to the other reviews. I came here because my dog had collapsed and would not get up. He was pooping, vomiting, and urinating himself and was unresponsive. This was the closest 24 hour vet near me. The "vet tech", drew his blood without me consenting or signing any papers. She drew the blood from his neck by herself while I was looking over the paperwork, and she did it so fast that I didn't even realize she had taken his blood until I noticed blood coming from his neck when I was hugging him. Due to the improper blood draw, which has to be done with 2 people and with pressure applied, he now has an alarmingly large hematoma on his neck. She also gave him an anti vomiting shot, that she had to poke twice due to improper practice. The vet could have helped her however he must have been too busy sulking by himself in his back office. Either the female is being placed with too much responsibility due to very lazy white caucasian male vets, with not enough help or experience , or she's drawing blood without asking for help. Either way, we ended up not agreeing to further treatment there, and we still had to pay the $100 exam fee, when the vet didn't even examine him! He pretty much looked at his gums and that was it. Note, I was the ONLY PERSON there. So I basically paid $100 for a hematoma, and for my dog to leave in a worse condition than he arrived in. I went to a different vet during regular hours and posted about our horrible experience on facebook, and turns out this place does have a serious bad reputation, and terrible veterinary practices. They will even hold your pet until you pay them. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE. The only thing they have going for them is that they are open 24 hours. so sad. read more

Took my dog here after a fight with our other dog. I called before heading over and they said I'd have to wait until 6 because the doctor wasn't in yet. I'm sorry, but shouldn't 24 hour emergency vets have emergency services offered 24/7???? We headed over there right before 6 and we were seen right away. The doctor then took my dog in the back and we could hear him screaming while they examined him. They came back and told me he needed stitches, a drain, anesthesia, that it would be nearly $900, to pay now and to leave. They'd call in 1-2 hours. 3 hours later I still hadn't heard from them so I called and was told to come get him. They handed him back to me still covered in blood and tufts of fur with some pain meds and antibiotics, and directions to see my vet in 3-5 days to remove his drain. 5 days later, we visit my vet and learn: -bites shouldn't be stitched because that traps bacteria from the other dog's mouth -the antibiotics we were given were not full spectrum, and so -the area around the bite is now necrotic (dead) and may require surgery -the pain meds he's been on are super low dose and basically ineffective for this type of injury, meaning he's been in unnecessary pain for the better part of a week Glad my own vet cleaned up his wounds, removed the stitches and drain, put him on full spectrum antibiotics, upped the quantity and quality of his pain meds, and has an action plan moving forward. Disgusted by this establishment, their ineffectiveness, the lack of cleanliness and professionalism in the actual rooms/building, and their price gouging. Emergency help is going to be expensive which is expected. The vets should be able to understand all conditions and decide what tests should be ordered. I never heard about mega esophagus until Our dog was diagnosed. We were basically asking for more diagnostic tests like an X-ray! We were not concerned with cost, just to keep our dog with us as long as possible. You should not have a vet say lungs clear then we go to his vet and say pneumonia and show us on X-ray. They wanted to give antibiotic pills no shot even when we explained mega esophagus. read more

I went here in June 2022, my small dog had a forceful vomit and aspirated, then appeared to have a seizure. I called and asked if they had a doctor there, it was 1:45a.m. they told me he was leaving in 15 minutes. I drove like a wild woman and got there in time. The receptionist was so rude, grabbed my little pup and carried her like an old purse, I asked if I could go in , she said no I had to wait in the car. This was well beyond when vets were opening to public. I went to the car and called Blue Pearl Emergency in Southfield. They were open and I could go in with my dog. I went back in and told her I wanted my dog and she said the doctor was going to stay a few minutes to examine her, I told her not to bother just give me my dog. This is obviously not a 24 hour e.r. as they claim. There were no less than 5 cars in the parking lot with people waiting......on what?.......the doctor was leaving. 10 minutes later I was at Blue Pearl and treated like royalty. The staff was patient, thorough and efficient in delivering the meds needed to stop the allergic reaction. They also provide detailed follow up care and a free magnet! I do not understand the hate in the reviews here. If you don't want to pay to save your pet's life, buy insurance... or, don't have a pet. We ended up needing an emergency vet for our very sick pup early in the morning. She was struggling to breathe which made us very nervous, so we decided to find an emergency room to take her to. We were greeted very kindly, and initial exam paperwork was easy. The tech at the front explained the up front costs, and then we went to an exam room. As is typical at emergency vets, the doctor will take the animal to the back to do a full work-up. Again, the vet explained all costs associated with blood tests, x-rays, etc. The vet was super kind, patient, and explained everything fully. There were never any surprises. Same when our girl was given a diagnosis and we were sent home with meds. We knew all the costs right away and probably could have denied any of them... but what's the alternative? Go back to the normal vet where the same would have occurred? Nah... We were very happy with our experience here, and our dog is feeling so much better. (and we are relieved!!) I will say that this place needs some... aesthetic help. It's difficult being in a situation where you have to take advantage of one of these places, so comfort is an absolute must. My cat started showing signs of sickness. I took her to this vet and they were unable to give me answers. The vet told me her bloodwork was normal and that he really didn't have any answers for me. My cat wouldn't eat, or stand up and I knew something was wrong. I took her back and they insisted that an overnight stay would help. So I paid a ridiculous amount of money for her to stay the night and come back to me in the same condition. That Monday I was able to call her regular vet and they knew what was wrong with her based off her bloodwork without even seeing her. She ended up having a deadly disease called FIP. I sent thousands here trying to figure out what was going on when her bloodwork already showed the issue. Months later, I decided to give them a second chance and went in fully prepared to put my cat down because she had gotten so bad. (My regular vet wasn't open and I couldn't watch her suffer anymore) They told me something else was going on and gave me hope that she would be okay. I spent another $400 that night and she passed away the next day. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I felt I was taken advantage of because I was emotional and they could get money out of me because I was desperate to save my cat. I would give negative stars if possible. I came home from work yesterday to find my beloved senior dog in distress and had trouble standing. My primary vet was closed but they directed me to VES for after hour care. While the outcome was heartbreaking, my experience was exceptional. Upon arrival I filled out a short intake form, was informed about pricing upfront and I appreciate the transparency, and my dog was taken to the exam room very quickly. I went to my car as instructed and within 15 mins received a call from the dr. She was very kind and empathetic and explained my dog had cancer that had ruptured, his abdomen was filled with blood and that he needed to be euthanized. They put in an IV catheter and brought me into a private room, laid blankets down for my dog to be comfortable in his final moments and allowed me to have a few minutes alone with him. When I was ready a wonderfully kind and compassionate young lady came in and explained the process to me. She got down on the floor with us and comforted my dog, along with me, as she administered the medication. I cannot speak highly enough of her and I wish I had been in the right frame of mind to get her name. She made my dogs final moments on this earth as peaceful as possible while also supporting me during a very difficult time. read more

After 2 days there and being told he "was doing well and he would be able to come home on Monday", we got a call around 10pm on Sunday saying to get there ASAP. He was clearly not doing well... he was lethargic, and had cola colored urine (meaning he was in renal failure). They wanted us to put him down the second we got there or take him to OVRS. We took him to OVRS and there was nothing that they could do. If we had taken him there in the first place, he might still be alive. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS! read more

Our dog was attacked by a large dog and bleeding from neck wounds. Brought him in at about 5:20 PM and was quickly put in an exam room. At 6:30 I went to the desk as no one had seen us yet. I asked if the doctor had too much on his plate and said it was no problem to go somewhere else. We were reassured we were next. A little after 7 we get seen. He will need surgery and a drain. We were promised it would be about an hour to an hour and a half. Told us we can go home and they will call us to pick him up. 9 PM comes and no call, so we call them. "Oh, they are prepping him for surgery now. It'll be an hour to an hour and a half". Starting to get angry at this point I point out that they are charging me over $800, emergent care prices, and I'm getting 'When we can get to it' care. 11 PM comes and no call. We call, "He had his surgery and needs anywhere from 15 minutes to 6 hours to wake up". What?!! We drive down and when we enter they put a sign up in front of me that says 'Please be quiet. Someone is losing their pet'. Really?! How convenient. Glaring at them they tell us there is one discharge ahead of us than our dog. 15 minutes later they get us because he won't come out of his cage. They take us back and we get him. Home a little after midnight. Should have left after the first hour and a half wait. Over $800 for 'When we can get to it' care. read more

We took my sick cat here because it was relatively close to my residence; however we were highly unimpressed. I gave them an extra star for the low wait times, but the first time my cat was there, he was simply sent home with an antibiotic. He wound up getting worse, so we took him back. They wanted to charge an astronomical rate just for blood work and 12 hour "monitoring". We decided to take him elsewhere, where he received excellent care for 4 days, and we paid 1/2 the price for everything included (IV treatments, blood work, antibiotics, 4 day hospital stay, etc). In addition, the place did not appear very cleanly. We most certainly will not go back. read more

My dog went in presenting with a respiratory issue. The doctor took an x-ray so that there was possibly an infection in the one lung. He gave her an injectable antibiotic and then prescribed in oral antibiotic to take home. Her condition did not seem to improve so I was suspicious that the antibiotic those was low for her weight. I then googled the antibiotic and looked up the dosage for a dog of her weight and found out that she should have been on 375 mg of the antibiotic not 125 which was prescribed. I wasn't sure why the vet had prescribed such a low dose I didn't know what type of injectable antibiotic given her so I reached out to the vet as soon as it opened. I was told that the doctor that he prescribed the antibiotic was not in that evening and that I would have to wait till the following day for him to return to find out why the dosage on her antibiotic was so low compared to her weight and the manufacturer suggested dose for her weight. I never did hear back from the doctor 24 hours later her condition continue to worsen I called back never heard from the doctor that evening again even after a second phone call. The next morning I called my vet who also concurred that she should have been on 375 mg of the antibiotic not 125 mg of the antibiotic. So we up the dose of the antibiotic but by then it was already too late she unfortunately died from the lung infection. Had the doctor properly prescribe the antibiotic or at least return the phone call 24 hours later to address why the antibiotic dose was so low she might still be alive. I'm thoroughly disgusted and angry that they were so negligent and their follow-through and a life and death situation. My precious dog might still be alive have the doctor followed through and done his job for what they where well paid for. Would not take my any animal there unless it was a very last resort they seem to be too overwhelmed and under staffed and can't handle their caseload. read more

THE WORST PLACE to bring your pet. 1. Overpriced, My dog was hit by a car the cost to euthanize him, over 400.00. But before they talked us into killing our dog they told us to give him pain meds and that was 70.00... Money Money Money was all they could think about. 2. Okay, so I went to this place because it was the closest to where I live and the situation was dire. My dog had a possible spinal injury, and I took him in the early hours of the morning. First, the pricing is outrageous. I understand that this is an emergency vet, and employees should be paid for appropriately for being there all night. I guess the main issue I had with the pricing is that it is due at the time of services and they really are predatory with their pricing, there are not payment plans, they won't send you a bill to pay later. What happens if you can't pay? Your pet just dies? Second, the doctor roughly handled my dog, which like I've already said MIGHT HAVE A SPINAL INJURY. When he or the staff would carry him, there was absolutely no support for his back or back legs. After all of the tests, the vet had no diagnosis. He was completely unhelpful as far as what was going on with my dog. He did take ONE xray, which I took to my primary vet in the morning. Even my primary vet couldn't believe how "unfocused" the ONE xray was. It felt so half-hearted. The staff was nice - so that was a plus. But we did have to wait longer than I expected just to have the vet come in and see my dog, even though I was the only person there. read more

Our 15 year old Cairn Terrier mix, Lulu, had an unfortunate emergency that left us scrambling for an emergency clinic. After several calls with no luck, EVS came through and saw her right away. The office is extremely clean and organized - I am very scent sensitive, and was very pleased to find a non-stinky veterinary office. Lulu needed the works done (X-ray, oxygen, overnight stay for monitoring, and medicines) and rightfully so - it was a true emergency and her life was in imminent danger. In these cases, you expect the bill to be high - if it were a person, the same would be true, and our Lulu is just that. Overall, our family was treated with respect and dignity, and Lulu is doing so well as a result of their care. These situations can be emotional, stressful, and more, and we were at ease knowing that our baby received top notch care. Thanks so much to Dr. Morgan and the professional staff at EVS! read more

My 13-year old kitty had developed thyroid problems which I did not see soon enough. I took her to my regular vet and they did blood tests, pretty sure it was the thyroid but they were sending the sample out for review to make sure. They sent us home after shots of B vitamin, antibiotic and an infusion of water under the skin. $350, which is par for a regular vet. My kitty acted lethargic and strange the rest of the night. I wake up the next morning and she is lying at the foot of the stairs gasping for breath. Her meow was a squeak. I called the Veterinary Emergency Services as directed by my regular vet's recording. The woman who answered was helpful and let me know that I needed to get there fast but without sounding pushy. She mentioned the exam fee and when I asked said they do take Care Credit. I got there shortly and they were waiting with oxygen. They immediately took my cat and gave her oxygen while I filled out a form. They wanted to know exactly what my regular vet had said and done because I had forgotten to bring the regular vet's bill as asked. They were nice and professional. I cried the whole time, of course. They did an X-ray and gave her fluids that she needed. Her heart had developed a gallop, her kidneys were having trouble and they wanted to keep her for a day or so to keep stabilize her, which she needed and figure out if thyroid therapy would help or make her heart and kidneys worse. And when I asked they honestly helped me make the decision that all pet moms dread: to euthanize or not. The SQ fluids had overloaded her system because she was in bad shape when she got them. I believe that was an honest mistake on my regular vet's part. I sobbed and they helped me come to the decision to end her suffering. They did not push for expensive treatment that would get us a couple days/weeks/months more but of misery. They gave me all the choices and were very respectful-did I want to be there until the end? How much time did I want to spend with her before we did it?, etc. they were awesome, and I can tell you that because I have had to make the Decision twice before. I did research online after she died and found out that Dr. Severin and Karen were right and honest about everything. So that leaves it to me: Paisley had a treatable condition that I didn't see and address in time and that's my fault. I live with that. It's not their fault. An emergency vet costs more money. And I know of at least one other emergency vet that charges a. LOT more. I went at 7 am on a Sunday. The prices are reasonable, the service was great and they even sent a personally written sympathy card in the mail. When a human loved one dies, the hospital still gets paid, the doctors and nurses have still done their jobs and deserve to be paid. Veterinary is no different. its a living animal and sometimes its just their time to go. People die in surgery all the time and it's not usually the doctor's fault. Anger, guilt and denial are normal parts of grief and when it comes to our fur babies sometimes the pain is worse than losing a person. I would bring another animal here and I recommend them. read more

I think this place honestly needs to be reported to the BBB. I took my animal here frantically worried (like everyone else is) that I was going to lose him. The Veterinarian was fairly young and had "no idea" what the diagnosis was but quickly offered that I do two X-ray's and bloodwork for $655. Not only that but said he recommended 4-5 hours of oxygen treatments for $50/hour. During the duration of this visit the vet had him in an oxygen chamber so I had asked if it was improving his symptoms and he replied with a no. This was before even treating my animal. They have a $75 office fee as well. When I was leaving I asked the Vet again... Are you sure you didn't notice anything abnormal in his mouth? And he denied it but quickly went back to where they kept my dog and he agreed then that he did notice a "little gum disease." After all said and done. If it's a *normal* time of day (which usually isn't the case obviously when you are seeking emergency care for an animal) just check out your local veterinary office first!!! I fully recommend Gasow Vet Hospital in Birmingham. The vet came up with a plan of care quickly and at half the cost this place came up with and it was including an overnight stay, X-ray, blood work, an enema AND medications. read more

I took my dog here last weekend for an eye infection (I think) in the understanding that there was a $90 Emergency weekend fee. After leaving I had spent $350 for them to do multiple tests, get some medications and tell me to see my vet on Monday because they did not know what was wrong. I understand doing tests if the simple treatments, eyedrops in this case, does not work. But instead of giving me the $27 eyedrops and telling me to see my get Monday if they didn't work they instead tested for things That of course came out negative. Another thing that irritated me was that there was the $90 Exam fee which I was fine with but that only gets you in the door. There's also an $85 'Diagnosis' fee, so you spend $90 to get an exam and then another $85 to find the results of the exam? The worst part is I never received the actual diagnosis! I left with them telling me they were unsure and to see my vet. Luckily, after giving my dog the eyedrops he was perfectly fine. I just don't understand why I didn't leave with a bill including only the exam, eyedrops and maybe the pain mess keeping it under $150. The staff was extremely friendly and you could tell they liked being around animals. I just wish the prices weren't so ridiculous. I would have otherwise gave 5 stars and recommended this place to everyone I know. read more
