My experience of this Clinic has been probably one of the best experiences with a vet service I've ever had.. Dr Sheahan went out of her way to go above and beyond to give me and my older dog, personal attention and care even outside of business hours.. she would call and message to make sure that everything is OK with both of us. They allowed me to actually be in room and help hold my dog during the exam; which never happens anymore. I live in Marina del Rey almost an hour away, but they are worth the drive. I would suggest them over any of the other optometrists I've been to and I have been to a few. They made time to see me on the same day that I called I can't recommend them highly enough... Amazing Doctor Jennifer Sheahan , Great VEC staff and nurses, and Incredible Life Changing results for my precious Candy - That is the recipe that I had long been waiting for and would also recommend to anyone considering eye surgery for their loving pets. Candy (Chihuahua) was diagnosed with diabetes early 2021 and her vision rapidly degraded to the point where she had developed mature cataract in May of 2022. This completely inhibited her of things she loved doing like chasing lights and running after her monkey toys. At that point, I did lots of research on specialized eye clinics and in Orange County, looking at the practices, doctor profiles and pricing. While there were many options available, I decided to go meet Dr. Sheahan for a Consult given her background and reviews. I was immediately not only impressed by her expertise but also felt safe, appeased and in good hands. I was really concerned about the surgery, what it entails, the risks, post-surgery care etc... But Dr. Sheahan was able to clearly explain and set the right expectations as to what and how things will happen, and while I understood there were risk factors, I felt more at ease after listening to her. After Dr. Sheahan provided all the required information, I still remember her telling me "you can go home, think about it, let me know if you have further question", and me answer "let's go ahead and do the surgery", and we did the pre-ops the same day. At that time, I just knew that she was the right Doctor, and pricing wise, it very similar to other reputable places I had inquired. Candy had a successful surgery on June 2nd. After a week of positive signs and applying all the eye meds, she suffered a glaucoma attack where her left eye pressure raised to 80. As soon as I alerted Dr. Sheahan, she told me to bring Candy right away to the office and was able to relieve the immense eye pressure and prescribed additional set of meds. After about 10 days of scare where Candy could not see at all with her left eye, she finally started to regain vision. In addition, shortly thereafter, Candy had developed pancreatitis and was also diagnosed with ketoacidosis which further affected her health. During that time Dr. Sheahan had always been checking up on Candy, texting me to inquire about her conditions, and also making herself available even after hours when I had concerns about her vision. While it has been a roller coaster of events for Candy since early this year, I'm happy to report that she is now in good health and her vision is stable and sees very well with both eyes. I'm so grateful to Dr. Sheahan and her staff and want to thank them to the bottom of my heart not only for Candy's successful cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment, but also for their kindness and for going well beyond and above when required. I have to say that Dr. Chang (2 cats, 2 dogs) and Dr. Sheahan (1 dog) have been very good with diagnosis and treatments. I have brought several kids here and they all did well with minimum invasive methods if they needed treatments. I want to give credit to Desiree who was there in the beginning and though she is no longer there, that I appreciate her working through with me on fine points to make things right for my kiddos - and that she always put a smile on my face feeling I am being heard. This is a review for the Calabasas office. If you want the short review: jump to the end to this review. I so wanted to love this place as I had been traveled to their Alhambra office way back and the, at the time, young Doc was great with my dog and me. She really stood out for her caring and professional demeanor. She was detailed and kind. Her staff was the same. Fast forward 10+ years in Calabasas: new Dr and staff. The Dr cared but without obvious care for my dog let alone me. He was precise but quite clinical. The he staff is awful, and although the office is sleek, it is almost as cold as the staff. It seems like the office staff makes a point to let you know they don't care. My dog, who is pretty chill, made it clear she was extremely uncomfortable there. The use of the word "we" when referring specifically to the dog starts to sound really weird. Minor, I know, but after a while ya just start thinking...WTH? It's a distraction. In the end, the Dr removed my dog's eye, and she is doing very well, so the Dr did his surgery work well--$4k later, one would hope so. Nonetheless, "we" decided not to return for the follow-up appointment because neither myself nor my dog can stand to be there. I brought my dog there for what I thought was an eye condition but turn red out to be an autoimmune condition. Dr Sheahan explained thoroughly and had the vet technicians show me a book to photograph giving me more details. I have never had a vet (or any practitioner!) who has made themselves as available as Dr. Sheahan. She not only calls back but she keeps calling morning and evening until she reaches me and she gave me her cell phone. Then she follows up with an email! Dr. Sheahan and her staff transformed the quality of life for my beloved Yorkshire terrier, Ben. As background, within three months of birth, Ben's bilateral tear ducts stopped producing tears. This resulted in dry eyes causing Ben to then scratch the eyeball and risk infection. Ben treated at a prestigious canine ophthalmological center which, via drops, was able to jump start one of the two tear ducts. As to the non-responsive tear duct, Ben then underwent surgery to transport the salivary gland to the eye. The surgery was successful in that the salivary gland produced plenty of saliva to irrigate the eye. However, the salivary gland was producing too much saliva causing constant eye discomfort due to the excessive saliva volume and mineral build-up. Additionally, Ben's face, neck, and chest were soaked in his own saliva causing skin irritation. The surgeon who performed Ben's surgery indicated there was nothing more that could be done for Ben. Luckily, I received a referral to Dr. Sheahan who indicated she believed she could surgically tighten the salivary gland and thus limit the amount of saliva flowing into the eye which would not only make Ben's eye more comfortable but prevent skin irritation. The surgery was successful and has given Ben a new life. He is no longer drenched in his own saliva. His eye is wide open and has plenty of moisture. I cannot stress the extent of trust I have in Dr. Sheahan and her staff. Thank Dr Sheehan of VEC very much for big help in last year. Dan, my 17 years old Lhasa Apso diagnosed Acute Glaucoma by his doctor in Irvine, needed an eye specialist ASAP, but all appointments in Orange County were 3+ weeks away. Luckily, after 2 whole day's search, I found Dr Sheehan of VEC at Alhambra. Dr Sheehan returned my call right away to know about Dan's conditions and confirmed an appointment for the next morning. Over the following weeks, Dan was checked and treated by Dr Sheehan for 3 times including once in Irvine. Since then, Dan's Glaucoma has become very stable. I found Dr. Michael Chang via the yelp reviews in 2020 when looking for a eye doctor to look at my baby Phoenix's eye. Dr. Chang is so wonderful, kind, caring and compassionate to the core. He did the surgery on Phoenix and removed the corneal sequestrum that had developed. THEN, my second baby Kismet developed one as well. Actually, two now. Dr. Sheehan did his surgery and was phenomenal. She sent me the video of the actual surgery which was amazing...I put it on my Instagram....and she will call you before and right after surgery to update you. What doctor does that? I have nothing but good things to say about this practice and the staff at the front desk will do everything they can to try and get you in sooner rather than later when you are having an emergency. I am still dealing with Kismet and have a follow up on the 22nd of this month. I wish it was sooner, but I understand they are booked to the max. Recently rescued a 3 month old kitten with a recovering eye issue. I wanted a second opinion as a new kitten dad. I looked up eye specialist for animals and found Dr. Sheahan and her team.
