This was my first visit to Via Sposito in Red Bank. I usually dine at the Old Bridge NJ location as it is it closer to my Friends from Monroe. The Red Bank location is decorated nicely, very intimate and is a BYOB. The menu is the same. Katelyn provided outstanding service. The food is very good. Red Sauce Italian and they do it well. The baked clams are my favorite. The eggplant rollatini is very good. The Spedini was less successful as they prepared it like Mozzarella en Carozza with the Anchovy caper sauce. The dish should be prepared as a loaf as opposed to a sandwich style. I will definitely add Via Sposito into my Italian rotation as the prices are reasonable, the service is excellent and the food is good. I will try their pizza next. We decided to try Via Sposito's, now in the hands of the 4th generation, Anthony and Vincent Esposito Jr. Upon entering we were greeted by a smiling Hostess (Ava) who showed to our table and handed us the menus. Next our server (Kaitlyn) greeted us with a smile and asked if we wanted something to drink. We each ordered an unsweetened iced tea. The lunch menu has salads, homemade soups, homemade pasta dishes, oven baked sandwiches (with homemade in house bread), coal fired pizzas, and calzones. The mozzarella they use on sandwiches and pasta dishes is also homemade in house. My wife and I ordered their Diavolo Pizza, pomodoro sauce, homemade mozzarella, sausage, Sopressata, long hot peppers, basil, extra virgin olive oil. Phenomenal!!!! The Best Pizza I've had since moving to NJ 20 years ago. I can assure you we will be back for pizza many, many, many times. My wife also had the Stracciatella All Romana Soup. I could only eat half and took the rest home with me for lunch on Sunday. We met Vincent who is a very charming and warm hearted person. Always looking for a new spot with good pizza as a plus. We came here on a Sunday night. Place is on the smaller side with pizza oven paddles hung along the mural filled walls. Even though they were short staffed, the waitress tried her best, so a pass on service. Had lunch here and couldn't be happier with the meals. Minnie our waitress was sweet as can be, very friendly and welcoming. She brought to the table the most delicious rolls with seasoned olive oil for dipping. Between the 4 of us we ordered the tortellini with peas, Margarita Pizza, and the Vincenzo chicken sandwich. We also asked for EVOO, which was also amazing. The Caesar salad had a little too much dressing, so it was very saucy and the dressing was on the sweeter side. All together, it was a great meal. Unfortunately, there was a birthday party of 12-14 people carrying on the entire evening like Yankee Stadium after an Aaron Judge home run. After moving to a different table once and after several requests to talk to the Manager, he finally came out and said he would 'take care of it'. He proceeded to walk directly back to the kitchen, never to be seen nor heard from again. Although the waitress 'comped' our coffee and dessert, our experience there was ruined. Other people around us shared the same thoughts but were too intimidated to speak up. The restaurant is far too small to accommodate parties that large and for the Manager to be that indifferent to the situation was insulting. Unfortunately the tables are very close together and I was seated in the middle between two walkways which every 2 minutes an employee would walk by running food. Not really a relaxing atmosphere. I ordered a hot appetizer and it came out luke warm at best. The entree I selected was eggplant parm, penne was cooked fine but chicken was chewy, borderline rubbery and eggplant was bland and over cooked. We have been to this restaurant twice now. We are locals and wanted to try the new place in town. On our first visit, we ordered the Charcuterie board to start and a calzone to split for the main course. It took a little while, but we were brought delicious rolls and sparkling water while waiting. The rolls are TO DIE FOR! Nice and crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside. Nice little perk! On our second visit, we brought my in-laws and their dog with us. We ordered the charcuterie board to start and all of us got pasta dishes for dinner. We ordered the dog the beef croquette. It took quite a while for us to get just our water. When they brought out the charcuterie board, they also brought out my husband's pasta dish. I Asked the girl that brought it out if all of our meals were coming out with her appetizer? She just put everything down and walked away. Our waiter quickly came over and took my husband's pasta and said he would have a new one come out when we were ready. He was very apologetic. Once our meals came out everything was good. The dog loved his meal as well!! I feel like the wait staff is overwhelmed. It seems there may be two people waiting on both inside and outside tables. On both occasions, we have had to wait or ask for things a few times. Since this is a newly opened restaurant, we will definitely give it another try. The caesar salad was extremely large and was good (especially coming from someone who gets them all the time). I like this place. Been coming here for a few years now and always leave happy. Yesterdays tiny thing is tiny but a thing still. Our waiter (never seen him before) seemed fine and amiable. The food arrived nicely done and a special order pasta was spot on for me (guanciale, potaotes and an egg on spaghetti). The flatbread up front was very good and a nice addition in place to the rolls that usually arrive. Once my pasta arrived I did ask for more bread to which we were served ONE single roll from the previous day. Now, I did not want to make a big deal about it until I went to restroom and seen the dish the staff were pulling those tasty flatbreads from on the front counter-top. I get it, he went to the kitchen thinking we were not worthy of the wonderful flatbread and grabbed an OLD ROLL. BTW, I would be happy to pay if he added a 'coperto' on the bill.
