Beautiful little rustic restaurant. Friendly staff and attentive! Our waiter was John G who was amazing he new the menu so well and was able to give us some great suggestions. He was patient with us and some alterations we made to our dishes. We had the mussels which were in a type of champagne tarragon sauce it was absolutely incredible and delicious i believe it was an appetizer. We could have easily had 5 bowls of it. The calamari is just as good as every other person in the reviews mentioned. Probably my fav we have had anywhere. We ended up ordering a second serving of it. The grilled octopus was also nice came on a bed of a mixture of white beans and tomatoes, we also had the Bronzino which was nice but our least favorite out of all the other dishes. Lastly, we had a pasta dish with saffron butter and shrimp. It was excellent, we had our waiter ask the chef for a different pasta than it originally came with and the substitute was PERFECT so thank you to John G and the chef for that. Met for dinner with friends and previewed the menu and it looked interesting. I heard that the chef uses a lot of fresh ingredients from Glenwood Mountain Farm in Vernon NJ. Our table opted for the 4 course pre-fixed menu options so we could share all our options. The food was AMAZING! Apps were delicious - the sauces and combinations of flavors were terrific! Everything cooked to perfection. Desserts to top it all off were delectable crème fresh fresh berries and the best olive oil cake! I had high expectations for Viaggio because I love it's sister restaurant Osteria Crescendo in Westwood. Unfortunately, this restaurant doesn't even come close to the food there. For appetizer we ordered the croquette tagliolini and the cauliflower fritta. The croquette tagliolini was ok/good and the cauliflower fritta wasn't good. It was just plain fried cauliflower with nothing special about it. For entree we had the tallegio & stracchino Ravioli and a special of the day which was spaghetti with saffron uni butter with clams and lobster. The tallegio & stracchino Ravioli was very good, and the best dish we ate here! The spaghetti with saffron uni butter with clams and lobster wasn't good at all! The spaghetti was not house made, and it tasted like it came right out the box! The lobster didn't even taste fresh, and the sauce didn't taste good either! That dish was a total fail! For desserts we had the cheesecake and chocolate budino. The desserts were $13 each and very tiny! They were ok/good, but you only get two bites per dessert! Definitely, skip dessert here, and get it elsewhere since it's too tiny to even be enjoyed! The service here was wonderful, but the food does not live up to Osteria Crescendo in Westwood! We hosted my wife's baby shower at Viaggio last weekend and couldn't be more pleased with our experience. Luis was great to work with and was flexible with our menu items, cake preferences, seating arrangements, etc. The service and food were fantastic. Every guest raved about how good the food was and many said they were already in the process of making dinner reservations. They allowed us to setup an hour before the event started and didn't rush us out the door. Everything was literally perfect and I would absolutely host another party here in the future. read more

Main entrees hanger steak $43 extremely small portion, couldn't even add more potato or vegetable to make it half descent really awful. I was embarrassed at the size for my husband to eat. I really like the ambience here. Came for my bday dinner with my boyfriend. We had a mozzarella app that was a special. It was just okay. The bread it was served on was pretty burnt. For dinner I had a special pasta dish that had kale and prosciutto. It was good but was very salty. My boyfriend had steak which he ordered medium well. It came out rare. He didn't want to return it so he just ate it but was disappointed. I had been here before and liked it more than this time hence the 4 star review. What this restaurant does, all restaurants should follow. I found this location on a lucky day and quickly made a reservation. Your reservation will need to be backed up by your credit card. It is a little difficult to find the place but rest assured, once you walk in you are transported elsewhere. We were pleasantly welcomed by a hostess who took her time and made sure my reservation was found (we had a glitch at the start) and we were seated where we liked to not where they liked us to go. As we sat, we quickly scanned the room, we were happy and surprised to see a gorgeous place where everyone seemed content and cozy. Jackie, our server quickly popped over and started her detailed narration of the menu. It was an intricate performance of what to eat and what we like to eat and suggestions to refine anything to suit our dining experience. She was A-Mazing. We started with the octopus which was heavenly. Next course, we had the Mema Bolognese and the steak. Cooked perfectly and the ragu melted in your mouth. My only con on the steak was I wish they made it with potatoes. I wasn't a fan of the charred veggies. Jackie didn't skip a beat, she wasn't too aggressive and if we needed something, she was already there. She made sure we were happy and even gave us a few minutes on the history of the chef and the restaurant. Overall, a lovely dining experience with top-notch service. We made a reservation of two for 8 pm. Restaurant had three tables available. The hostess lady took us on a table in the middle of the room with a heavy kitchen traffic. Due to COVID we wanted to select the table closer to wall. She said that's for larger groups ( both tables are 4 seat table btw) . We said seat amount is the same. Why we can't seat there? She didn't even listen us and left. We were puzzled. But what is worse is that a min later she seated another party of "TWO" to the table she didn't let us seat. When we call the manager to ask why we are being treated differently, he didn't even have an answer. They said if we wait they will seat us where we want. Wait for the other party who came AFTER us to finish their dinner for a restaurant we made a reservation!!!!! How smart is that!!!! Terrible discrimination based on they like you or not? Never again. I had the chicken over polenta. Was so good. Really flavorful and tender. Portions for dinner were good. I cannot stop raving about this place. Truly one of, if not the best meal I have ever had. From the presentation to the actual flavor of the dishes, beyond amazing. Waitstaff: Everyone who made contact with us was extremely friendly and pleasant. Our server Jackie knew the menu inside and out and really made our dining experience a memorable one. It was our first time here and the person I was with had an allergy. Jackie made amazing recommendations to both of us. Food: We ordered two entrees and a pasta. As we waited they brought us each a slice of bread with olive oil. Fazzolletti - best pasta I have ever had! You definitely need to order this. The herbs are rolled into the pasta sheets and the texture and flavors are beyond anything I've ever experienced Scallops - I swapped out the orzo for the broccolini due to an allergy. Usually scallops don't have a ton of flavor but these were not like that. Cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. Dessert - we tried two of the desserts. Finally got around to trying this place, it's been on my list since before COVID... We had 3 courses and each one was delicious as the next. Our server suggested the calamari which I am glad we went with - it was spectacular, with some sort of cream sauce, it was very unique as well. We split a pasta dish in a red wine ragu which again was equally as amazing - and was cooked perfectly al dente. For dinner, I had the chicken dish on their seasonal menu, which normally I wouldn't get. So often chicken is uninteresting, but here it had so many layers of flavor, it was a real surprise. We were able to finish everything, so no leftovers, but did not have room for dessert, although after having sampled a bit from a ll the other portions of the menu I'd be confident it'd be just as excellent. You also can't beat that it's a BYO, I spied a lot of wine nerds who brought gems from their cellars (the kind of things you wouldn't necessarily find on a restaurant wine list), which just makes this place even more of a must-go. Spectacular dining experience offering new twists on rustic Italian cooking, surprisingly nestled in a strip mall between a donut and bagel shop. 5 star food and service. BYOB. This is what Italian food is about! Everything made with the best, freshest ingredients, infused with care and not overly fussy. Almost everything is made in-house (with the exception of the linguine and bucatini, which are imported from Italy) and they source ingredients from many local farms. They specialize in house-cured charcuterie (not really my thing, but the whole leg of prosciutto brought tableside is a sight to see!) Apps: coppa with pickles, tri colore salad, fried calamari, heirloom tomato caprese with burrata, tomato foccaccia, and raw oyster special with citrus foam. All fantastic! A little bit on the expensive side ($8 for two pieces of foccaccia...) but you pay for quality. The fried calamari was the best I've ever had...the citrus butter was sweet and sour and slightly spicy, with pickled shallots...delicious! PS the jar of pickled veg on the table is DECORATION ONLY haha. Our table got a few pasta dishes and entrées. Almost all pasta is made in house, and the entrées are creative and well executed. Pasta is tender and cooked to perfection and a good size portion. Honestly the only thing I could critique is dessert. And that's being nit picky. A very small selection. The affogato is not the greatest. But the espresso is strong. The pine nut tart was good but not amazing. The service is also fantastic. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Went here a second time and our server Tommy remembered us! They are so nice and once again the pasta (new fall menu) was great. Get the squash capellacci in brown butter sauce! Very good food however don't expect your traditional Italian dishes. Salami board was very good, especially the house cured items. Prosciutto San Daniele is one of my favorites but it was cut too thick and wasn't of the best quality but it was okay. We also started with the burrata which was extra but wasn't too big a fan of the salsa around it. We were highly recommended the pasta Fazzolletti, pasta was cooked perfectly but I wasn't a high on the sauce. We had the steak and potatoes for our main course and this plate was perfect. Desert was excellent also. Bread and food cores were excellent, I think they try too hard with the various sauces that the food probably doesn't need. Our server Isabella was a very sweet young woman and knew what she was talking about. However, the food was a different story. I ordered the chicken and it came out cold and uncooked. A gentleman a table behind me ordered the same thing and also said his chicken was raw. Staff wise, everybody seemed very young but knew what they were doing. Who I suppose was the manager was using very harsh words to some of the staff members and I couldn't really believe the management of this restaurant. Lastly, at some point of the night, somebody in the back of the restaurant was yelling curse words and having a tantrum which was on display to the entire restaurant. This is a long over due review. This place is a hidden gem in NJ. I've lived for a decade in Wayne and didn't find out about this place until I moved out of town. Having an event to host last Oct 2019 for our family and friends, one of my better half's priority and hope was to find a place with great food. Majority of our loved ones are foodies. The first time we checked it out last June, we were blessed to be served by Mackenzie, and she recommended a few dishes for us to try: we started off with Cauliflower Fritti, Calamari Fritti, (we were impressed already at this point and then comes) Parpadelle alla Mema, it felt warm and homey with every bite, theres something about the sauce and freshly made pasta that it was just so fulfilling that its like your taste buds were having a dance party. This made us more excited for our event at Viaggios and also full, we still had Branzino and Panino coming which we thoroughly enjoyed but had to pack half of it to-go, to make room for dessert. (Which is always worth to save a room for, it was so delicious and creative) Came October, our event was successful, we had created a menu for people to choose from with the help of Mr. Voter. On that day, for the secondi, I picked out the Berkshire Porkchop and my better half had the Piemontese Tagliata which without a surprise we both enjoyed. Our guests loved the food as well, to the point that a few of these friends of ours, all the way from Philly and Va met up with us again at Viaggio's post-Thanksgiving since they all will be in NJ to visit families. This is quite a lengthy review but I'd want to express as best I could, a more than well deserved 5 star rating for a place that did not only bless us with great food but also an experience for every time we were there. We are very thankful for the staff who were so kind and friendly (s/o to a name I can recall, Mackenzie), Mr. Voter who helped us through to make our event happen and of course, Robbie Felice, and all the chefs who created and shared their talent with such great dishes and deserts. Its definitely the place to check out (including their sister restaurant Osteria Crescendo), dine in, or if you can't dine-in in this present time I wrote it - call in and order a to-go! Get a gift certificate to use in the future. If only they can ship all the way now that we are in Virginia, especially the parpadelle alla mema! Our first experience here was the Valentines Day 4 course menu. The price of $79 per person was extremely reasonable being that it was a busy holiday. The place itself was a tad smaller than I expected it to be and it's located in a strip mall. The place is really bright & I wish it wasn't because I prefer dimly lit restaurants for romantic dinners. It was packed when we arrived, so reservations are recommended. The hostess at the front desk was very nice, but we did have to wait a few minutes before our table was ready for us. Our waiter was on point and made sure to explain the menu, make recommendations, and check in on us frequently. Every time we tried a course, he made sure to ask how everything was, which we appreciated. Speaking of the food, I had mixed feelings. For the antipasti, we got the NJ Oysters and the Prosciutto di San Danielle. We both agreed that this course was fine, but my boyfriend didn't like that they used the same exact table bread in his dish for prosciutto, especially because the table bread was SUPER dry. For primi, we had the Pappardelle and the Gnudie all' Amatriciana, which we both loved! That was actually our favorite course. Seconding consisted of duck and monkfish. My boyfriend did not like the duck due to the accompanying marmalade sauce. I really like the monkfish (it tasted a bit like lobster), but my only problem was that it was extremely over cooked on one side, making it hard to cut through. For dolci, we tried the Citus Pavlova and the Torta Caprese; we didn't care for either and we're quite disappointed to be quite frank. Im European and I love coffee, so I had to finish the meal with a cappuccino. It was the worst one I've ever tried; it was so strong it was undrinkable. Even traveling to many places in Europe, I've never had coffee that strong. My boyfriend couldn't drink his double espresso and just left the entire cup there. Overall, this place was more like 3.5 stars, for good service, BYOB, plenty of parking, and innovative dishes/presentation. Ohhhhhh my god viaggio is SO. GOOD. the location is unassuming. It's in a strip mall. But, when you step into the restaurant it feels like a trendy NYC spot. The food here is out of this world amazing. Come fasted because you will want to eat everything...literally. I've been here 3-4 times so I've had a chance to try most dishes. The quality is consistent and never fails to impress. While everything is incredible, I would recommend trying the calamari fritti, charred octopus, tri color insalata, any of the salumi selections, the bucatini, and scallops. The desserts are always on point, so make sure you save room! Viaggio is the place you go to impress people. It's the place you take your loved ones, because you want them to experience pure bliss.
