I had a VERY traumatic experience with VickyC5 for my wedding day and it's taken a long time for me to muster up the courage to say how I actually feel about what was done to me. I have never written a bad review in my life but this is killing me inside. My first mistake was believing that a miracle would happen after I had a bad trial and the makeup artist convinced me that things would be much better on my wedding day and she would make all these changes and somehow pull of a miracle.. I wish I just spent the extra money on a different trial and went with someone else in hind sight. Leading up to the wedding, they INSISTED we pay the gratuity up front before the services were even done.. and my husband had to end up speaking with them so that they could allow us to the pay the gratuity the DAY OF my wedding instead of before. Why does it make sense to pay the tip before anything is even done? Since they "allowed" me to pay gratuity the day of instead of before, they demanded I provide breakfast and drinks to their artists which I would have already done but find it ridiculous that they demanded that. Honestly, I have a hard time reliving what happened on my wedding day and it still brings me to tears. The very first thing she did was put HOT PINK eye shadow on my eyes, which was never discussed or in any of the inspo photos that I shared with them. Immediately I told them no and IF we even did pink, it would have to be a soft blush pink. But I did not want pink to begin with. After a while, she said she had to move on to my hair and come back to finish my makeup... the end result was I looked like I had no makeup on, NO BLUSH, HORRIBLE CATEYE LINER that I could have done better myself (I wish I just washed it all off and did it myself) but we had no time. The hair was the worst part. They took forever to make my freshly washed, clean hair look flat and oily and matted to my head with hair wax.. she kept using more and more hair wax!! Why?!? They did not blend in my extensions and half was straight and half was bent into messy cringes that were all tangled together. It looked like a birds nest. It was obvious I had extensions in because there was an obvious bulge from where they started. It seriously makes me cry. I told them I wanted my hair soft and wavy and natural and they gave me the complete opposite. I kept telling them to fix it but so much time was spent and nothing was getting better because she just didn't have the skill set to do it. I HAD to move on eventually because of time and the schedule. I even missed my own rehearsal because she was still "working on my hair." Worst of all, we paid them the full gratuity amount which they did not deserve but I did not have the time to process everything and argue with them on my wedding day. And their services were actually more expensive than others that I had considered. VickyC5 is the worst and most regrettable decision of my life. I am traumatized and I can't even look at my own wedding photos. I hope this saves any future brides from going through what I went through. And I hope by telling my story I will finally have some peace with this and move on. Place is run like a sorority. Don't upset them in anyway or you'll get jacked up make up job on your wedding day. Unprofessional and painfully greedy. Don't take it out on your nice customers who unfortunately already fully paid for your mediocre service. Do your research, there are plenty of good makeup artists who are competent. I got better looks at the Sephora make up run and that was free. I also had my trial done at another place and had a completely different experience. Here are my lesson learned: 1. Do your research. 2. Don't believe the hype and believe all the "positive" reviews. All the relevant reviews have either been removed or hidden. It's hard to forget your traumatic experience and I still have hard time looking at my wedding photos but I only try to focus on the good. I've moved beyond my experience because life is really too short to focus on toxic experiences. But one thing for sure, every bad experiences teaches you a lesson and grow you as a decent human being. This place is great. My fiance picked them to do her hair and makeup for our wedding at a Korean wedding expo. There's main location is here in midtown. We planned our photo engagement session with our photographer and we stopped here a few hours before to get glammed up. Well not me. I already look goooood ;) I was bored having to wait so they allowed me to catch some ZZZ in one of the facial's room. Before we left the makeup person touched up my face with some powder and gelled me hair for free. They did a great job with my Boo Boo's hair and makeup. We shot at Central park and the meat packing district in 90 degree weather and our hair was still good and her makeup lasted many hours after the photos were done. I understand that planning a wedding is expensive and a lot people is going in to try to under cut the price of many vendors. I don't think its worth pissing off or go cheap on a vendor such as the makeup and hair person since photos and how you look will be what people will remember. This session was around $200 and we tipped $20 cash to each stylist. I expect them so a banging job on the wedding day as well. I am also having them to do up the bridal party as well. My initial conversation with VickyC5 was a bit rocky but after talking to Vicky herself, we decided to work with her team of artists. Unfortunately, I don't think you can choose your artists but I am so happy to have worked with my team! If you want the no-makeup/natural beauty makeup, Arum is the artist you are looking for. She is super adorable and fun! She will definitely make you laugh while she does your makeup. Yoomi (one of the managers at VickyC5) was in charge of my bridal hair. I showed her 3-5 different hairstyles that I wanted to try. Despite taking 3 trials to get my dream hair look (because I was indecisive), she incorporated her styles to create the bridal look that would look good with my facial features and makeup. Yoomi will make you feel right at home and guide you through what would look best based on your personality and features. The trials were great but they really brought their A-game on the wedding day. VickyC5 team arrived at 5:45 AM to get everything set up and ready to go by the scheduled time. I honestly did not put hair and makeup as my "priority" for my wedding planning since I don't wear much makeup (literally only wear eyeliner and that's it!). I wanted to look for Korean or Asian make up artists for my wedding since I like the Korean make up style, and I have inner double eyelids that are difficult to put eye make up on. New Customers - BEWARE!! Brides STAND FAR AWAY!!!!! This vendor will lure you in with a great deal and change the terms on you. 1) They pressure you with one of their $1000 packages for your party 2) Then when you try to change something that is within the contract, they try to extort more money from you. They will make up excuse to justify their "additional" charges and really have you by the balls if your event date is close!! Apparently any borough outside of Manhattan is not NYC and incurs a $300 charge! DONT TRUST THEM! Learn from my example! They tie you in with a non-refundable deposit of $300 when honest and honorable vendors only charge like $100. Also you have to pay them 10 days in advance but it's not in the contract. There is a representative named Michael who is a drama queen himself. He basically called me the issue and hung up on me. There was no return call to apologize for his performance over the phone. They don't work with you - they want your cash!!! I went fishing and asked around of friends of friends and VickyC5 really use underhanded schemes like leave early on your wedding date. Bride to Brides!! KEEP AWAY! Don't Trust them! If they cared about customer service and their reputation, someone would have called me to apologize. I booked VickyC5 for my wedding in August and worked with Jina and Yoomi who were both great! I was a little nervous about how my hair and makeup would turn out because the majority of their brides have a different style than me. I also (accidentally) cut my hair too short a month before the wedding. Yoomi was able to work with me (and my extensions) to preserve the look and hairstyle I wanted. At first I was skeptical about how many people and how long it would take to get the bride + 6 bridesmaids + 2 moms ready with hair and makeup in just a few hours, but Vicky and her team stuck to schedule without compromising on the final product (attaching some pictures here for you to judge for yourself). They've clearly been doing what they do for a long time and came prepared, even showing up a bit early. Once I booked them for my wedding, Vicky suggested a series of facials starting several weeks before the wedding. I personally take things that aestheticians say with a grain of salt. Vicky and her crew did hair and makeup for my whole bridal party and my mother. My mom specifically wanted to work with someone who had done hair and makeup for Korean women in traditional dresses, so it made her happy. But I chose Vicky independent of this fact, based on all the great reviews and our trial run. We did a hair and makeup trial, and she went through several different looks for my hair, both up and down. She was super kind and easy to work with. On the day of the wedding, she brought everything with her: including 4 staff members, all the hair and make-up supplies, an emergency touch up kit for me, and mood music for while we're getting ready. Her crew was so amazing working with all my bridesmaids to help give them the look they wanted. We all wanted a fairly easy and natural look to our makeup, nothing crazy overboard. I would not recommend VickyC5 for wedding hair and makeup. I initially loved my trial and booked them. I even put aside the very off-putting manager who questioned whether I was going to give enough tip. I should have seen this as a red flag. I even agreed to pay them the FULL amount for a large bridal party. I appreciate that they gave me a discount for a bulk rate. However, prior to giving my payment three things happened: 1. Vicky C5 called and emailed my planner asking where my check was. It was Thanksgiving weekend and I was away. I told my planner to tell them I would hand deliver it myself after the weekend. 2. During Thanksgiving weekend when I was away, I received a call from VickyC5. They ask me where I was (it's Thanksgiving weekend?) and where the check was. I said I was out of town. Then they asked me when I would be back. Calm down. It's a holiday weekend. I am allowed to be away right? And, we signed the contract and agreed to pay in full only a week prior. I have all the emails backed up. 3. After Thanksgiving weekend I went to VickyC5 to give them a check. Needless to say it was a four digit check for the full services amount. I was only required to pay $800 deposit bit they then asked me about gratuity. I say, well isn't it included or can I give it on the day! Then they said they explained this to my planner. When I demand to see the email to my planner explaining this they canr furnish it. I left shortly after. They later send an email to my planner with a contrary version of the in person incident. There are two sides to a story but the bottom line is this: you were not pleased with money in hand for all the services and greedily just wanted gratuity. In the wedding vendor world, this sort of pitting different parties against each other and demanding gratuity for a service is really off-putting. I have since found a wedding hair and makeup vendor who is similarly priced and yet quality and service far surpasses Vickyc5. Do your homework, brides! Bottom line: Pros: Fast makeup artists Trial is decent Can do special makeup looks if requested Cons: Makeup quality is meh Customer service no bueno Not straight with their customers. I had Vicky C5 for my engagement shoot and wedding hair/makeup, and absolutely loved their work. They are professional, friendly, and absolute experts with Asian faces and hair. I don't usually wear makeup, so I was a bit nervous, but Amy did an amazing job with a really natural look. At our engagement shoot, my friend (who also happened to be our photographer's wife) exclaimed, "Jess, you look like you! Just even more beautiful!" On my wedding day (Sat 8/1/15), they jumped right into our hair and makeup. My mom also doesn't usually wear much makeup, but she looked incredible, natural, and even younger than usual (people tend to mistake us for sisters). My makeup and updo stayed the whole day. After so much research and a failed trial with another highly rated makeup artist, I was so relieved to have found VickyC5 and had an amazing wedding trial with them. My makeup artist was Alice and my hairstylist was Hera. From the start, they listened to what I wanted and made recommendations to enhance the look I was hoping to achieve. They'll suggest upgrades but they didn't push them aggressively on me, and I greatly appreciated that. I looked absolutely beautiful after my trial and signed with them immediately. Fast forward many months later, Hera and Alice showed up at my hotel on my wedding day - on time, prepared, and with so much excitement. I was so happy to see them and feel their energy. They set up promptly and began working on my 4 bridesmaids, my mother, and provided touch ups for my groom and his father. They even coaxed my resistant little cousin to get her hair and makeup done. My schedule had to be pushed up an hour and they kept calm, which kept me collected despite the chaos. I felt so bad that I wasn't able to take a photo with them before I left, and they even took care to make sure my room was secure. My only regret was not hiring them for the extra time as my hair completely uncurled from all the humidity. It would have been so worth it to have them help me sort out my hair and makeup. I hope to have another event soon so that I'll have the opportunity to work with them again! I used VickyC5 as my makeup artist for my wedding and engagement photos and she was amazing! The makeup looked natural, especially the eyes. Vicky knows how to work with Asian eyes to make them look natural yet beautiful. I loved my lashes (done 2 days before wedding and still there 3 weeks after), the gorgeous hair, and the makeup stayed on the whole night. Vicky and her assistant were there at the reception for touch ups, hair and gown changes and everything went very smoothly. They were experts at organizing the changing times and coordinating with the matre d because we had 3 gowns. The day of the wedding, the team of 3-4 makeup artists including Vicky showed up on time and were very professional and accomodating to us. We were very satisfied with the way they worked and the beautiful results they delivered. Not only did they do our beautiful bridal party makeup but Vicky also helped to give advice and helped organize the wedding events. She knew the layout of our wedding venue and gave tips about what photo shots were good and when we should do what. It was really helpful to a functional wedding.
