I went here for a particular issue which was small and affordable to fix but while they were under the car they "discovered" a completely unrelated issue that was expensive. I was surprised and not confident about their recommendation, but in the end I ignored my intuition and went ahead with the additional $1,400 repair. That was my bad, I should've taken a step back and gotten a second opinion and I did not. A couple weeks later the person that recommended Vic's to me took her own car there. There was a check engine light on that seemed to be related to tire pressure. Vic's assessed and told her the all four sensors on her tires were bad and needed to be replaced for about $700. She was bummed, but trusted them completely. I told her my reservations and urged her to get a second opinion. The second opinion: all sensors were good, there was a nail in the tire that needed to be removed and patched, $40 max. went to Vic's to get an auto inspection. I've been pulled over two days prior for the inspection sticker not for any of the instruments on my should've been in and out. They told me that my third brake light on my truck was damaged and not working pretty sure the officer would've made me aware that my brake light was out and a ticket for the brake light and the inspection. Needless to say Vic told me that my third brake light is out and said well if you leave and come back, you're gonna have to pay for the inspection again, but if I did that, it still would've been than what they charged me for a lightbulb. Thieves for doing that they signed up to do with New York State justifying their time they had to get some extra money for an inspection lousy. read more

Vic's has serviced our vehicles four times in the past few months, and today will be the last. Despite their motto being "Your Satisfaction is Our #1 Priority", their customer service is awful, they do not stand by their work, and they hit you with charges without informing you in advance. My review is lengthy because I think it's important to share the details and not just submit a review blindly complaining. I realize a lot of people complain about mechanics, so I want to share our experience so you can gauge the severity for yourself. To make it easier to explain our experience, I'm going to use bullets.... 11/5/21 - Brought vehicle in for an oil change, engine light on, and asked them to check the emergency brake, a whistling belt, and to give the vehicle an overall inspection to see if anything else needed to be addressed. It had been a year since it was looked at and we wanted to make sure everything was in good condition going into winter. - Shop called and advised we needed new brakes and rotors, a new thermostat and gasket, and a new gas cap because they felt that's what the whistling noise was (it was not - still have whistling today; they did not identify or correct this issue). We approved all repairs. - Shop called and advised the vehicle was ready, and asked that we pick it up before closing (less than an hour from then). When we said we couldn't get there that quickly, the woman was very rude and nasty, saying they have "nowhere to store the car". Seemed unreasonable to call and expect us to get there that fast, and then make it our problem that we couldn't (we are 30 minutes away, which we told her in advance). - At pickup, we were charged an additional $50 on top of our $1300 bill because we paid by credit. We were never told about this fee, nor were we given the option to pay by cash or check. - Vehicle drove home fine. We were away on vacation the following week and a half, and then home for the holiday, so the vehicle wasn't driven much in the immediate weeks following the repair. Fast forward to yesterday, 12/1/21: - Drove vehicle for 8 minutes when it starts overheating. Check engine light comes on; alarms blaring. We never had a problem with overheating (or the cooling system at all) until the "repair" on 11/5/21. We pull over, with the kids and dog in the car, and turn off the vehicle. - Call Vic's and ask for help, as this is clearly an issue with the cooling system, something they worked on just a few weeks ago. Further, they claimed to have inspected the whole vehicle to identify any issues and found none other than those we fixed. - Greeted with more attitude from the woman on the phone, but they eventually send their tow truck and take the vehicle. 12/2/21 - Shop advises that one of the clamps in the cooling system had rotted and fell off. We authorize the repair, even though this most certainly should have been observed during the initial inspection and cooling system repair.l on 11/5. - Shop calls to state vehicle is ready, and our total is nearly $400. For a clamp. Woman advises that $250 of that is for the tow (which they never mentioned would be a charge at all), and $45 is for diagnosing the issue. We argued that this should have been discovered and addressed during the initial visit, and the tow should not fall on us - most certainly not without advising us of the cost BEFORE towing it. We asked to at least split the cost of the tow, and they refused. - When we picked up the vehicle, we again tried to get them to back their work, taking some responsibility for completely missing a rotted clamp, but they would not. We were trapped and had to pay to get our vehicle, so we did. Additional notes: $50 for coolant on 11/5 ($5/unit) $42 for coolant on 12/2 ($5.25/unit) Prices went up in four weeks time? Charge me a second time for coolant on a repair THEY missed? Nickel and diming the customer at its best. They charge to hook your vehicle to the diagnosis machine regardless of whether you do the repair with them. We spent $1300 our first visit and they wouldn't waive or even reduce the $85 diagnosis fee. Further, they literally ONLY hooked up the vehicle to the machine. They did not do the full inspection as requested, which was evidenced by the rotted clamp. Overall, we are sorely dissatisfied with the lack of professionalism, poor quality of work, terrible customer experience, misleading pricing, and shortcuts taken. This is not how you do business morally. Shame on you. read more

I went here before for service whice seemed alright, 2nd time I went for a new tire that had a hole in it, they said I should get another new tire to have 2 for the back because I had 4 wheel drive, & c ost me over $600. Then I brought it back at the end of November for a new battery & put on my snow tire on & take the summer ones off. They charged me $600 for putting on snow tires & a battery which was over $300 & not sure if it was new. They overcharged me by far & over they put on the tires, I've been having major problems with traction lights. I don't knowcwhat they did. Now I have to take it to another garage to see what the problem is. I won't be going back here, they over charge & god knows what else ​they did to it to screw it up read more

Our son's car broke down on on our way to bring him to his freshman year in college (which is 5 hours away from home for us). Being from out of the area, we weren't sure where to go or what to do. After calling the Jeep dealer and being told that they couldn't even look at his car for three weeks, my husband did a Google search and found Vic's Service. He called and was immediately impressed with their customer service and willingness to help us. Even though they said they might not be able to look at it for a day or two, they looked at his Jeep as soon as the tow truck dropped it off and we had a diagnosis that morning. From there, we continued to be impressed and satisfied with their service. Christina got on the phone and found us a new engine and gave us a reasonable estimate that afternoon. They had the parts and began working on his Jeep within two days and were very thorough. They communicated with us during the whole process and made sure that everything was running well and that there were no other underlying issues before they returned the car to my son. We were kept up to speed with how things were going and they checked in with us when they found other issues, telling us up front what the costs would be before they made the repairs. We truly appreciate the service and care that we received at Vic's and I am very grateful to Christina for her care and concern. Dropping our son off to college 5 hours from home was stressful on its own. The car issue had the potential to send me over the edge, but the staff at Vic's was so helpful and accommodating and made the experience so much better. My son has had the car back for over a week and it's running great, just like they promised. Thank you so much! read more

I requested for my check engine light to be shut off and the problem to be fixed, following that, only if they could get that worked out did I want an alignment, new snow tires and a new tie rod. they informed me they found the issue causing my light to be on and that they'd fix it right away,well they lazily half assed that issue, then probably reset the light so they could continue to get my money for the other work. when I received my car it seemed to be in perfect shape again...until getting about 10 miles down the road and the light coming back on and my tire shaking where they supposedly replaced the tie rod, so of course I called them, wondering why that could be? they acted clueless. So now that i've wasted about $4,000 there due to the fact that the only work they succeeded to do properly was get my snow tires. And my car is now in worse shape then it was when I brought it in, I'd recommend you chose a different mechanic read more

Would not recommend this place. Firstly, the front desk needs to work on communication with clients. Practicing a few common courtesy phrases would be a great start. Secondly, something weird is going on with their NYS inspection procedure, based on my two attempts to inspect my car there. A year or two ago I brought in a car to be inspected, and they announced it would not pass inspection, mentioning some obscure and inconsequential reason. They charged me money for the inspection, though. Next day I brought my car to another local shop, and the car passed the inspection without problems. The mechanic who successfully inspected the car, just chuckled about Vic's. A few days ago I brought in the car to be inspected and was told it would take at least an hour if they begin right away. Upon inquiry about the length of the inspection, the front desk kindly presented me with gratuitous information about how complicated the inspection process is and how much effort it takes them. Well, I have done anywhere between 20 and 30 car inspections so far in my life, and it has never taken that long. The inspection of the same car next day at another place took 20 minutes flat. This was the single worst consumer experience in my life. Not only did they inconvenience me, but they inconvenienced my 3 companions. On discovering their misdeeds, they did absolutely nothing to make up for it. Unprofessional and not accommodating. I've already had to do minor repairs on their repair job. The scenario unfolded like this: I discovered my brakes were losing back-pressure and I called Vic's the day before I needed to return home with my 3 companions from New York to Michigan. The lady on the phone told me that the tow truck would pick up my Van at 8:00am. I explained that I needed it finished ahead of noon and she said it was doable. It did not arrive until 10:00am. I selected Vic's because they had a tow truck. Not only did they show up late, they contracted a third party truck without telling me, which showed on my bill. The lady at the desk said the repair would be finished between 2 and 3 and they couldn't even make that happen on time. I received a called at 3:30 that it was finished and I arrived to discover outrageous bill. When I explained how they displaced my friend and my plans, the women working the desk were snide, patronizing, and rude. After arguing for nearly an hour about this absurd breach in professional behavior, my friends and I decided to leave because getting home sooner was more important that arguing with the awful employees of this wretched company. For the record: One of my friends missed their grandmother's piano recital. My other friend missed a day of work. My third friend was 8 hours late to arrive at a family weekend in the Upper Peninsula. The company did nothing to compensate my companions. Nothing. 0/10. Will never, ever return. read more

Will NEVER come back. For a several years I've periodically brought my cars in, and always felt like I was being taken advantage of. I recently brought my car in for an inspection and they 'failed' me and gave me a huge list of things wrong with my car. As soon as I said I would take it to another mechanic the politeness abruptly ended and I was shooed me off. As it turns out, I brought it to another mechanic...and it passed. Also, Vic's must've panicked when I left because they reported to the DMV that my car actually passed inspection...even though I was told it failed and wasn't given an inspection sticker. The second mechanic I brought the car to actually inquired why I had even brought it in for a second inspection because it had already been reported that it passed the first time around. read more

Do not visit this establishment, their only goal is to rip you off and take your money. I trusted them with my car several times and for some odd reason my total cost for repairs always managed to be about the same amount of money. Recently my rear window became broken after a friend caught their arm in it. The glass itself did not break but the window went down and would not come back up. I took it in assuming it had simply slipped off the track because I could hear it trying to catch. I was very surprised then when they called me back and told me it was the entire back window system that was broken and would cost me around 700$, the same amount my last few had cost. I told them I couldn't because I didn't have the money (though in truth I didn't believe them). They instantly became less courteous and when I picked up my car they charged me 40$ for the exam. When I left and then parked I noticed that one of my panels near the affected window was loose and not correctly aligned. I took it back and they tried to claim it came in that way! The mechanic stated he didn't remove panels. Then how did he know it was broken? He apparently simply shined a flash light into it and "saw it was broken". They were rather rude to me insisting it had come in that way and they hadn't removed any panels. I left angry, but now realize that not only did they try to rip me off, but I paid 40$ for him to shine a flashlight! Worst mechanics ever. read more

Vic's Auto Service is the only repair shop in all of New York that I bring my car too. They make an experience that is always stressful and aggravating into a very easy, doable process. They bring me in and show me whats wrong with my car and explain to me what my options are, how much, and how long, and work together with me to choose the best option. Their repairs are always quick and efficient and I won't hesitate to continue ONLY using their services. Rohanie is extremely knowledgeable and was able to help me forecast my next few repairs and configure how/when to come back. Overall, I'm extremely please with everything they have done. read more

If I could give this less than one stars I would. They are completely unprofessional and unaccommodating. Do yourself the biggest favor and don't even call, contact, or even step foot in this place. My car needed an new alternator change and it was needed then and there. Vic's Auto Shop replaced my alternator with a CHEAP REBUILT alternator that not only did not fix my car, but made it WORSE. I am a college student without a job and a dropped a big amount of money on this to have it fixed just to come home and to have to get THEIR MISTAKES fixed. Additionally, after the changed my alternator the problem was still there. I went back not even a week later, but I went back 2 DAYS later to tell them the problem was still reoccurring and they decided to do nothing about it and told me it was fine. I am now home paying double the amount to have this fixed and they are choosing to not take responsibility over something that is there fault. As a distraught customer calling to let them know they hung up on me a total of 4 times. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. UNACCOMMODATING. This business just wants to scam you and do everything possible to take your money. Do not go there. In fact, this business should be shut down. Also not to mention that they kept finding more "problems" with my car that they couldn't let me drive the car without paying more to fix them. read more

Do not use this repair shop. My son goes to college in Oneonta and his car broke down. the Tow service brought the car to Vic's. When my son got the estimate it was double the price of everyone else. When we asked why, the answer was, Vic's has excellent Mechanics and has been in business for year. Not much of a reason. I had the car towed to another repair shop down the road, they preformed the job at half the price. This shop is just a rip off. Taking advantage of College kids. Learn a lesson, always read the reviews whenever possible. Unfortunately when you break down at night you are at their mercy. Being a college student at SUNY Oneonta I was out of town when my car needed an inspection. I brought it in to Vic's at the recommendation of one of my instructors to have it done. They brought the vehicle in right away and promptly failed my inspection and gave me a list of problems with the vehicle including belts and a new exhaust. When I told them I would take it back to my local mechanic to look at it, they promptly failed my inspection for front-end frame and suspension issues. I drove back to my home 3 hours away and had my mechanic look at the car. My mechanic showed me the belts and the exhaust and there was absolutely nothing wrong with them he then passed my car and suggested I report the shop to the Better Business Bureau and the DMV, which I have. It is unfortunate that these people are allowed to take advantage of students like my self who are away from home. The lesson here, they are dishonest and avoid this shop. read more
