We parked about a half mile away and a public lot by the West Hollywood library, parking was only 12 bucks and it was a nice short walk to the venue and no traffic getting g out when we left the show. The event was sold out, and we got there right when doors opened. The line out front was not too long and security kept everybody moving really quick. Full bar and food inside. The main room is tiny, so anywhere you stand you will have a great view of the performers. I definitely plan to come back to see another show here, wish I had caught shows here in the past... The history in this room is incredible, dating all the way back to 1957 when it first opened. It is wild to stand in the same small, intimate space where Elton John made his US debut and once massive bands like Guns N' Roses got their start. Sure, portions of La La Land were filmed here, and they have some movie memorabilia in the back of the place but they offer far more than jazz here, if that is your impression. There is rock, reggae, salsa, lots of tribute bands, and other stuff. While this may have once been purely a jazz club, I am certain the market simply won't carry (most) strictly jazz places for very long. Based on one photo I saw on the wall, this place has been around for about 76 years. That is impressive. For jazz aficionados, they offer a three hour Sunday jazz brunch (and this is the only time when folks under 21 can enter, by the way). For brunch, there are only four food items available on the menu: a breakfast burrito, avocado toast, one pancake (singular, not plural) and bacon, sausage, and eggs. Remember, you are here for the music, not the food. As for the food, my breakfast burrito was interesting. Knowing restaurants in California, it was probably cooked by a Latino gentleman but this looked like th emost Caucasian burrito of all time. It had chorizo, eggs, potatoes, and other stuff in it, and the tortilla had a nice cheesy skirt on it. It was also on the spicier side, which I enjoyed, but fair warning. I wasn't sure I was going to like it by its looks but I ate the whole thing. It was also a belly bomb and kept me satisfied for about 6 or 7 hours afterward. The avocado toast was actually very good and made with good quality bread. I thought the music was excellent. The members of the band (the John Kithcart Quartert) played their assess off and really seemed to enjoy themselves. True jazz (not that soft elevator music gunk) was popular at one time but let's face it, it is not popular anymore. Jazz certainly can be enjoyed as background music while you enjoy your one pancake but it is certainly not intended to be enjoyed that way. To fully appreciate it, you have to pay attention to it. That doesn't seem too much of an ask. After all, it is the folks on the stage who are doing the hard work. Our server was very good. She was friendly and attentive. My only experience here is with the Sunday jazz brunch so I cannot speak for the venue at any other times. At least for the Sunday brunch, whether you like jazz or not, this place is well worth a try.

I used to have a friend who took me here for a Halloween party that pulsed high to the rhythm of…read morefun. Yesterday, I went here again, not knowing I was going back to the Halloween stomping grounds I once monster mashed in. This visit was more fun as I felt like I had partied in a club nestled in the after-life word that Coco invited us to imagine because I attended El Velorio, here. El Velorio is a celebration of Mexican culture, specifically the art and step of Dia De Los Muertos. I arrived 30 minutes early, to Quiet Cannon (where club Lit sits) and paid 20 dollars for parking. Once I entered, the club space was dead. There were a few people here and there, I bought the tickets, but did not really understood what I signed up for. I am the type of person who sees something advertise gets tickets and then sees how the night will go. I am open to opportunity and engage with chance when it comes. A bit after the 7 the show began. The opening number was a dance by Aztec dancers, scored by a beating drum. The dancers were in full custom, feathers and all. Later in the evening, as I danced, I felt a caress on my neck that felt strange, not good nor bad. It felt like a tickle and slither, like a playful snake stretching on my neck to find its comfort spot. I turned and it was a black feather from a Calavera custom. My mind was arrested when I saw these performers dance. It was beautiful in a quiet way. I wanted to know what the dance called for? Saying that there dance called for rain would be reductive, but, I had no other thoughts to conclude. I hope that their dance called for something good that every person in Lit could carry for a better tomorrow. After the Aztec dancers came an all girl Mariachi group. I did not get their names, I mean no disrespect, there was simply a lot going on. I am not a Mariachi fan, but this Mariachi group was innovative, not only because they were an all female ensemble but because they sang melodies I could recognize. Forever, I will carry the memory of an all female Mariachi group singing 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' on a night where a party grooved to Mexican Culture, which now is also part of American Culture. One of the staff members of club lit supported the group by placing a microphone near the instrument of the musicians. Now the melody of the cello, could be heard better. It was a moment that made the night more magical because it was a human to human moment scored by classical notes. After the Mariachi I viewed a small gallery of art. It had some standout pieces but on the whole the art gallery was a good attempt. There was this picture (that I clipped and can be found in the picture section) of young girl with flowing hair, the color of different shades of water. The moon was full and high above her. Her eyes were light blue, her dress translucent and light gray that was somehow also blue and also somehow the wind of the night wrapping her. The title of the piece was unfinished return. I felt like I saw the Llorona healed. Like she was no longer a spirit of pain, longing for her lost children. She was a spirit of rebirth that offered waters to wash pain away. So her lament turned into splashes of redemption. See her eyes and know the woe you carry become part of water, in its different forms, and for a moment know a pause from pain. One of my favorite parts, of course, was La Catrinas. The women in Calavera paint, with hoop dressed that are full of theatrical flowers, and other macabre details that in sum make the woman look like she got a full makeover for her day of death. My favorite Catrina was the one that was dressed in a wedding dress that was in full black, with details, like a headpiece that showcased a studded skull. Her makeup was on point, it almost made me forget that I was looking at a human dressed appropriately for spectacle. I zoomed in on her makeup, when she was not looking, and, in my opinion, the resulting picture looks like a portrait. I view it and I feel a small chill, not because I am an artist but because I helped immortalize her efforts that spoke of hours of intricate makeup work. After all the visual experiences, I began to danced. I felt great joy jiving to a nearly full dance floor full of people some dressed as Catrinas. At one point, the song 'Oye Mi Amor' blasted. And a Catrina in full garb and makeup danced on the stage, leading us in movement. We were not dong Zumba, but still we sweated, laughed and groove to the rhythm of Latin flavor. I could not help feel alive, and fully in the moment, which can be a a treasure for many who spend too much time in their heads. This place offers substantial bump and grid, and spectacle. I would definitely return to this place, especially when it is associated to a theme night.

This visit was especially fun because I discovered they host Monday night bingo! It took a little convincing to get my friends on board, and since they weren't too excited about getting there right when it started, we arrived late enough to only play the last three games. By the third game, we were completely invested... and then, lo and behold, I won! What?! That was such a fun surprise and definitely made the night even more memorable. The venue has plenty of room to spread out, the setup was very professional, and the host kept everyone entertained with dad jokes between every number. Whether it's a concert, special event, or bingo night, I always have a great time here. We'll definitely be back for another bingo adventure. The Canyon Club continues to be one of my favorite venues, and it never disappoints! Good luck topping that bingo win next time!

We spent nearly $400 between reserved tickets, dinner, and drinks because we wanted the full experience. Reserved seating requires dining at the venue, so we expected a comfortable atmosphere and professional service. Instead, the air conditioning wasn't working. The venue never informed guests before seating us or acknowledged it during the evening. We sat through dinner in unbearable heat until we simply couldn't take it anymore. We ended up abandoning the reserved table we paid for and moved into the general admission area just to escape the heat and enjoy the show. While we were dancing, we placed our drinks on an empty chair because there wasn't anywhere else to set them. They accidentally tipped over and spilled. Rather than simply cleaning up the spill, the staff who responded were confrontational and got in my fiancé's face. It was completely unnecessary and incredibly unprofessional over what was obviously an accident. My fiancé went to speak with the manager, and we weren't the only ones. Several other guests were also expressing concerns about both the unbearable conditions and the way staff were treating customers. Unfortunately, the manager couldn't have seemed less interested. There was no apology, no empathy, and no attempt to make anything right. Despite expecting customers to spend significant money on dinner and drinks, they offered absolutely nothing in response to the broken air conditioning, not even complimentary water or a gesture of goodwill. Mechanical issues happen. What separates a good venue from a bad one is how they respond. Unfortunately, The Canyon failed on every level: communication, customer service, and management. I rarely leave one-star reviews, but this experience earned it. We won't be returning, and after reading other reviews when we got home, I wish we had looked into the venue before buying tickets. Hopefully this review helps others avoid making the same mistake we did by choosing this venue. There are plenty of great places to see live music where customers are treated with the respect and professionalism they deserve.

This is the worst experience at a bar I've ever had…read more I've been to a lot of places, and this is the only place where I have encountered truly disrespectful staff. I have tried multiple times to get into contact with Alex's Bar over disturbing behavior exhibited by one of their bar backs, and either they choose to ignore me or just do not care. When a place can't even answer their phone or respond to basic inquiry, it raises the question if they even care about their customers or just booking the next musical act to sell tickets.
