*** Art + Live Jazz = good summertime. *** One of my fave pastimes in an LA summer. LACMA books really great artists to enjoy. Of course prkg can be a hassle so be early. Pack your own goodies or try their vendor. *** Never gets old to me, and it's free! ***

    Ready to enjoy!

It was nice music, nice atmosphere and a fun out of the box free things to do. The music starts at 6pm and it's on time! Tip: arrive no less than 2 hours early to get a good spot for your blanket, chair, etc. bring snacks, or a picnic and maybe even a card game or something to pass the time and enjoy your friends while waiting. Some people order Uber eats and meet the delivery guy by the parking gate. The parking I paid was $22. There is parking entrance on 6th street (not Wilshire) that takes you up on an elevator right to the court yard where the concert is. If that lot is full drive around the museum (turn right on Curson) and there is another lot there as soon as you turn right. If that one gets full... there is another parking across the street from that one... you will most likely see a "public parking" A-sign right away. Dogs as welcome!

The Friday evening I went was HBCU night. It was nice to see so many attendees out representing their colleges, sororities and fraternities. Pros: *Food is sold onsite at the venue. However, you can bring your own food and beverages. *Mixed variety jazz artist (you can check the website for date/music lineup). *The event is free. *The crowd is diverse (a mix of all ages, cultures, families, singles and even pets). *You can bring your own lawn chair and blankets if you would like to crate your own sitting/picnic space. All areas are first come first serves so arrive early. *EV parking is available in the parking structure. *Before attending jazz you can also check out the museum, tar pits or take pictures at the urban light landmark after the sun goes down. *Bathroom stalls are onsite in a small portable building structure equipped with sinks and mirrors. The lines can get long. Cons: *Parking fills up really quick (you might want to arrive around 4:30p if you want to park nearby or in the parking structure onsite). There is a fee to park in the parking structure. *There is limited seating in front of the office the stage. *It's hard to hear the band from some of the grass/picnic areas (you can walk closer to stage and stand on feet).

It's always lots of fun. The music is really cool. You have to bring your own food and drinks because there's limited food and drink to buy. The only bad thing is that if you arrive just a little late there is no chairs and no spots on the grass to sit on. Also, you have to find parking somewhere on the streets or parking lots that are limited. It's gotten really crowded since we started going many years ago. It happens on Fridays and Saturdays best of all it is free.

LACMA is in the heart of Los Angeles near mid town. As long as I've known, live jazz happens every Friday. Different performers come on a stage and wow the audience with amazing live music. It one of the free things in life to enjoy. The court yard has seat near the stage but people also pack their favorite foods and beverages along with blankets and chairs. People get there at least an hour early to reserve their spot. Because it's outdoors you are competing with the conversation, laughter and kiddos playing all around. If you wanna listen to the Jazz, you might be best sitting in the chairs near the stage. It's usually a perfect night as the hot summer starts to cool down. K-Jazz sponsors this event and I enjoy it every year.

Always a pleasure coming here to see and hear jazz. They have the best artists performing free of charge to people. There is a mixed variety of cultures to sing, laugh, dance, eat and sip . So much fun o. Fridays during the summer months

Latin Jazz at LACMA Saturday afternoon at 5pm. Is one of my all time favorite. The people are diverse and laid back. The music is great and the atmosphere is chill. A great event, for families, lovers and friends. There's dancing or if you prefer a walk the park is lovely.

Sitting at Rays and watching the ppl go by while listening to awesome jazz.

You can't beat LACMA jazz Friday nights. Whomever is responsible for booking the talent, hats off to you. The museum gets famous jazz players to come to the museum to play for you for free. You can't get better than that. What is fun is that you picnic, people watching (is off the hook) or dine at Rays which is tasty. The mushroom pizza is terrific. If you have kids, this is the spot, parents sit on the back lawn where the kids can have fun and yet there are speakers so that everyone can hear the music. Kids are dancing all around, which is so cute. Parking is easy yet for a fee. Otherwise, good luck finding parking. Not easy in this neighborhood. I don't have any secret tips, so if you don't have a friend in the neighborhood to park your car, either uber or pay the parking fee. Which balances out for free jazz and the museum.

My friend told me about free jazz night at LACMA and since I just moved to the neighborhood it sounded like the perfect way to wind down after a long day of work. It goes from 6-8 every Friday but get there early to get a good spot - keep in mind it gets pretty crowded, but it's a very happy and nice crowd. My boyfriend and I sat further back because we brought our little dog who sometimes get anxious in crowds and the sound was great back there too. I think there are food trucks but you can also bring any snacks or food that you want. Bring a blanket at least, some chairs if you'd like. People brought dogs and kids and everyone had space and seemed comfortable. Highly recommend! It goes on through November.

Ask the Community - Jazz at LACMA

How early should I arrive so I can get a chair in inside?

Depends on how many ppl are in your group. For example, I arrived around 5pm with 4 friends and there were no seats... On another occasion I arrived around 4:30pm with two friends & there were plenty seats...

    Can I bring my dog?

Yes, when I was there, I saw plenty of dogs. As long as they're well-behaved

Is there any food at the venue?

There is food at the venue but it's a little pricey for what it is. We always grab a picnic tote from 6th & La Brea Brewery which is just $40 for TWO! Includes full dinner & locally brewed craft beer. This is seriously the best Jazz Night hack!

It is a great intimate venue with lots of history and great sound. We parked about a half mile away and a public lot by the West Hollywood library, parking was only 12 bucks and it was a nice short walk to the venue and no traffic getting g out when we left the show. The event was sold out, and we got there right when doors opened. The line out front was not too long and security kept everybody moving really quick. Full bar and food inside. The main room is tiny, so anywhere you stand you will have a great view of the performers. I definitely plan to come back to see another show here, wish I had caught shows here in the past... From 1957 to 2025/present day this historic music venue theater has housed so many greats and legends in a magnitude of way. It's been featured in many films and shows and brought so much audiophile cheer. I haven't been to the Troubadour in over a decade, so in some way stopping in to see Young Gun Silver Fox (from the UK) with opening act Great Vacation (local Los Angeles) and a awesome DJ set in-between performances by Dustin De Leon was even more epic. I mean even thee Carole King (singer, songwriter, actress, grammy winner) was there rocking out in the audience a few feet away from my boyfriend, our friend Chase and I among a few other familiar locals I knew in the crowd. The design is very cool with a designated smoking area on the side walk away from their line where they will check you thoroughly from security to ticket scan to ID. I try to keep my pockets light for show days as most venues will. Safety first. They don't allow any outside food or drink, but the prices are more than reasonable inside. Once you make your way in the main bar is to the left of the entrance, with merch tables set up for acts of the night. in the corners. You can also find the first set of restrooms here. The service is stellar and the bartenders have a lot of personality and good energy. We had a few beers/craft brews and a ranch water hard seltzer throughout the night, but they have a full bar and solid selection of beverages on draft, limited tap, limited wine. You can hang in here for a bit, seating is limited around the bar, but mellow. Lots of history on the walls, signs and decor in here. Arriving early you can make your way up to the loft and enjoy the show from here as well. They have limited seating along the balcony, an additional bar upstairs. You can see so awesome views of the street life if in the main room. The Troubadour is on the very outskirts of West Hollywood with Beverly Hills literally starting write across the street #SoLA For the first hour we found ourselves at the back bar area inside the main showroom not to far from where you order food ( a good variety of options including vegetarian and vegan eats) We had a good view of the stage for Great Vacation even as the room filled closer to YGSF extended set. They definitely gave the people what they wanted. After nearly walking off stage at the end of an incredible set we chanted and got four more songs :D I still geek out on the movie Rocket Man filming here and recreating Elton John's 1970's performance in this very space. The sound, acoustics and production here is stellar. Iconic, rustic, unforgettable. Capacity for the Troubadour is around 500, with staff and performers just to give an idea of how little big this legendary space is. Additional Restrooms in the corner of the main room near a wide staircase heading to the balcony and loft areas. Parking in the area is garage recommended or metered minding restrictions which typically end by 8pm or on Sundays don't apply. Doors typically open by 7pm for most shows, but can vary slightly (though rarely). Music is a universal truth and at the Troubadour is always rings truth.

From the moment of arrival, the atmosphere establishes itself as both sophisticated and intimate. The room is thoughtfully designed, with warm lighting, tasteful décor, and acoustics that elevate the live music experience without overwhelming conversation. The venue strikes a careful balance--energetic yet controlled--making it equally suitable for a night of entertainment or a focused dining experience. A particularly memorable highlight of the evening was a visit to our table from Eden Alpert, daughter of Herb Alpert. She was gracious, engaging, and genuinely attentive, adding a personal touch that reinforced the establishment's commitment to hospitality at every level. The culinary program reflects intention and care. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, with clear attention to detail in both presentation and flavor. Execution in the kitchen is confident, and the overall quality of the food aligns well with the venue's upscale positioning. The wine list is well-curated and sufficient in scope, offering a range of options to complement the menu. However, pricing is notably elevated, with markups that may give even seasoned diners pause. A corkage fee of $50 per bottle is in line with the venue's premium positioning, though it further reinforces the importance of thoughtful wine selection for those mindful of value. Service throughout the evening was attentive and polished, contributing to a seamless flow from seating to service to performance. Staff demonstrated both professionalism and warmth, enhancing the overall guest experience. The live music remains the centerpiece--and rightly so. Performances are exceptional, supported by excellent acoustics that allow every note to resonate clearly throughout the space. It is this combination of sound quality, ambiance, and intimacy that continues to define the venue's reputation. In summary, Vibrato Grill Jazz delivers a compelling and well-rounded experience: elevated cuisine, engaging service, and outstanding live jazz in an elegant setting. While the wine pricing may lean toward the premium end, the overall experience justifies its standing as a destination for both dining and music enthusiasts alike.
