However, I realized almost immediately that she had some serious behavioral issues--specifically intense leash aggression and barking--that I simply wasn't equipped to handle alone. After researching local options, I gave Bill at Sierra K9 a call. It was clear right away that he has a genuine passion for what he does. He took the time to listen to my specific goals: I needed Sky to truly become part of my "pack" and be well-behaved enough to join me at breweries, and events. Bill outlined his methods and experience in great detail, and we sat down to map out exactly what it would take to get her there. I opted for the two-week intensive Board-and-Train program. Bill made it clear that the training wouldn't end when I picked her up; he committed to meeting with me for as long as it took for me to feel confident. Throughout those two weeks, Bill and his wife, Shelby, sent regular progress reports, photos, and videos. Seeing her thrive gave me so much peace of mind--it was obvious she was making strides and was incredibly well cared for. On pickup day, Bill and I had a thorough hand-off session. While I was impressed with Sky's progress, Bill was honest with me: the foundation was there, but the real work was just beginning for both of us. When we got back home, I'll admit I struggled. The leash reactivity and pulling returned, and I felt completely hopeless. But Bill and Shelby didn't leave me hanging. They checked in daily, "talked me off the ledge" more than once, and quickly scheduled an in-person session at my house. When Bill arrived, he could tell I was frustrated. He calmly reminded me of the process and took Sky's leash; she immediately "snapped back into shape"--no pulling, no barking, just focus. He carefully observed my handling, gave me manageable homework, and, most importantly, helped me reframe my mindset. He taught me that training isn't a chore; it's an exercise in patience and a form of therapy for both the owner and the dog. Fast forward one month: I've been working with Sky every day and meeting with Bill weekly (and he is always perfectly on time). The transformation is night and day. While she's still a little better on the leash with him than with me (haha!), she is truly a different dog. I know now that with time and Bill's continued guidance, Sky is going to fit in perfectly. I'm actually enjoying the work, we celebrate the wins together, and I am sincerely grateful to the Sierra K9 team.

I enrolled my dog in their 3-week board-and-train program for $3,600. During camp, they sent…read moreoccasional photos and videos, which made me feel things were going well. But when I got her back, she was wearing a prong collar -- one of those metal collars with sharp prongs. I was told to keep it on for a week and follow their training modules exactly. We followed their instructions. A week later, I discovered puncture wounds on her neck. They were bleeding and infected, so we rushed her to the emergency vet, where she was treated for several punctures and infection. The bill came to $1,400. When I contacted Benchmark, horrified, the trainer admitted she "had forgotten to mention" that the prong collar should only be used during training sessions and removed afterward. That information would have been critical and could have prevented the injury. The follow up email with instructions also did not mention it anywhere. I still don't know if she was already hurt before she came back home, or if the tight collar caused it during that week, but either way, it was a major oversight. The collar itself was clearly too tight. If they had added just one more link, it would have fit better and may have avoided the injury altogether. Instead, my dog suffered, and the recovery set her back weeks -- undoing much of the progress she had made. Benchmark's official response was that they "take no responsibility" for anything that happens outside of camp. After that, I never heard back from them. My program was supposed to include follow-up lessons, but once I reported the injury, it seems they cut off communication. Between the $3,600 program and the $1,400 vet bill, I lost $5,000 -- and ended up with a traumatized dog who couldn't even continue her training while she healed. They claim to care about animals, but they rely on harsh tools like prong collars and e-collars, fit them improperly, and fail to provide basic instructions on safe use. Then, when their methods cause real harm, they refuse to take accountability. I waited a few weeks to see if Benchmark Dog Training would reach back out to address what happened to my dog. They never did, so I'm sharing my experience here. I cannot recommend Benchmark Dog Training. If you love your pups, look elsewhere.

We have taken several classes from them and continue with their weekly obedience classes. Our puppy is now a joy and no longer doing all the crazy stuff she was doing.

I have gone to petsmart multiple times and haven't had an issue up until now…read more I took my dog in to get a slight haircut and cleaning and showed a picture of what I wanted (same thing as always) and was ensured that was what was going to be done. Upon picking up my dog, I immediately noticed she was shaved completely.... obviously FAR from what I had asked for and I mentioned that I was not happy to which I was immediately dismissed and told "she was matted so we shaved her". My dog was not matted, never has been as I wash and brush her once a week... even then, shaving her was never discussed. When I started to talk to a manager I was immediately asked "was she matted" rather than a slight concern. I was considering Pets Hotel until i found out that they crate their dogs most of the day and barely play outside. Ollie doesn't like crates and loves to be around humans and other dogs. So, I did my research and came across Maisy's Mutts! We did a meet and greet 3 weeks before I had to leave for the weekend and it went great. I felt SO comfortable leaving Ollie with the family and Manni kept me updated every day with pictures which definitely helped with my separation anxiety (LOL!).
