Now- about a year later- after going to him about every 10 weeks for cut, moisture treatments and occasional color - my hair is almost to my elbows- thicker than ever ( I have fine thin hair) and looking so so good. He has helped me choose products that help , without ever making me feel like I'm being pressured into buying a bunch of stuff I don't need, and he gives me all kinds of great tips for proper care after I leave his chair. I've been going to Shelly for almost 2 years now. For a guy, I have thick hair and wear it short. I have a hard time finding a good stylist and am very picky. It's nice starting a haircut with a short head massage along with a wash. I personally like a scissor cut. The environment is pretty low key with soothing music and slow daytime crowd. I enjoy the straight razor neck shave and rinse at the end. For the experience and job Shelly does, the price is great when compared to some of the higher priced barber shops in the downtown area. read more

Let me start by saying that my regular stylist is Tessa and she is AMAZING!! I adore her. But she's pregnant and can't do certain services because of chemicals. So she booked me with the owner, Luis. Wow, this guy is so rude and pretentious. Please heed the warnings of others here on Yelp and DO NOT go see him. Perhaps he used to be a good guy, but now he treats everyone around him, including clients, like dirt. Such a shame. At the end of the day, Luis, you're in a customer-driven industry and people will stop going to your salon because they will see how badly you treat people. read more

Got a simple trim on my long layers and bangs last week by one of the newer stylists and I cried the rest of the day because of how terribly uneven it was. Half of my bangs are so short they are above my one eyebrow (which I tried to specify I did not want) and the other half goes beneath my brow. This is the worst they have ever looked. It's possible my hair part made it confusing to cut, but I have literally never experienced this at any other salon. On top of that, the "face frame" was completely uneven as well. I didn't even try to contact the salon to fix it because I feel so embarrassed and I don't think there's much that can be done other than making the other half of my bangs too short as well. Pretty upset that I paid $45 and tipped 20% for something I could've done myself. Only giving more than 1 star because the staff were at least friendly, but I am immensely disappointed and self-conscious now read more

Excellent service, excellent staff and awesome awesome hair cuts! I have been coming here now for a few months, 2 hair cuts, 2 color treatments and I love it. Aveda salons have a standard for sure and these guys go above and beyond. I love the custom color they create and how my hair feel super healthy afterwards. I always pick up a couple products like color correcting shampoo while I am there and last time I bought some dry shampoo to try and extend my color just a little bit longer. read more

This is an Aveda salon in the Highlands neighborhood. I went to Carolyn on the recommendation of a fellow Yelper. Carolyn has this "nature mama" look about her. She has beautiful curly blond hair worn naturally. And she is into maintaining your hair the way god gave 'em to you. Which ahem... is the problem. Some hair (like mine) needs to be tamed, others need styling, still others need curling or straightening, and most everyone needs a trim at least once in a while. I read Carrie's bio and was sold - she's dedicated to learning and is a Aveda Purefessional which is a high level educator. I recently went to a salon industry event in New Orleans - over 1800 beauty professionals attended. While there, I ran into Carrie - which shows her dedication to her craft and received multiple compliments on my hair and posed for several photos - proof that she does amazing work!! I have short, thick, wavy hair that's not easy. I've been through my fair share of bad haircuts over the years and am so thankful to have found Carrie. If you have short hair, I HIGHLY recommend her. My stylist here was GREAT. She was quick and efficient. She understood my vision and tackled it right then and there at the appointment. Offered me a hand massage and was very polite. The ONLY complaint I have about Vida was the woman working the front desk. She didn't smile or really have any emotions and frankly it came off as a rude. I felt the need to write a Yelp review just to call out her negative demeanor. Outside of that, I did have a weird experience over the phone when I called and originally booked my appointment. Went yesterday for a blow dry. Valentina worked to get me in at exactly the time I needed. I was booked with mc Kayla. She consulted on how I wear my hair. Quick 1.5 minute head massage and off to shampoo bowl. She washed and conditioned me herself. Then made quick work of a blow dry. I liked it. Had fly aways and needed to ask for a smidge of hair gloss to run over the top. Good service at a good price. Open Mondays which was a big plus!!! read more

I (male) went to get a haircut here awhile ago when I saw it featured Aveda products and Aveda is a socially conscious company. The haircut was just average I thought, but I've only had one good hair cut since I let my hair grow out and become curly. Haircut was ~$25. I wanted to try some Aveda conditioner that ended up costing $70! Ouch! Of course, it didn't even compare to my $10 conditioner I pick up at Safeway. I give Vida an extra star just for letting me return the conditioner. Getting a scalp massage before the haircut was pretty cool too. I haven't had that before at a haircut. read more

Tori has been my stylist for over 3 years now. I used to drive a long way to see her at her previous salon, well, because she is that good! One time I strayed and saw a stylist friend of mine and had to have Tori fix my hair. I will never make that mistake again. Tori is a talented colorist. She does exactly what I ask her to do, but with the perfect amount of expertise advice. While she is my blonde whisperer (trust me getting my hair to a cool toned platinum is not easy), I have also seen her talent on a couple of my brunet friends. bad bad bad..... yes, i walked in to this salon after umm,totally wrecking my hair(box dye). however, after the girl turned my hair orange, yes, orange, she then redyed it, put me under a heat lamp(not good for damaged tresses) and put me thru the deep conditioner which was costly, and she didnt bother to ask if i wanted it..... then, she said she would cut one inch off..... after unwrapping the towel, i saw that my hair was STILL orange, and she proceeded to chop off a good 4 to 5 inches...... i have been an aveda user for over 10 years now and have never been this unhappy. For 200$, i expect to come out feeling like a movie star. Today, i stomped out feeling worse than when i walked in. and a whole lot more broke. will never ever return here. read more

Even when she was in NYC, I would make a point to see her when I was there visiting. She does an absolutely great job, listens to what you want, and makes you feel so comfortable. Fae is so skilled, and I know every time I go I'll get exactly what I want and look great. I don't even live in Denver but I trust her so much that when I'm home visiting is when I schedule all my hair appointments. You're in great hands with Vida and Fae! I have been looking for an Aveda salon that is in my neighborhood and easy to get to. After going to Planet in Cherry Creek for years, I was definitely ready for a change. I called on Friday and easily made an appointment for Sunday. Parking was easy on a Sunday afternoon, I was greeted immediately, my stylist Emily came and got me very quickly after that. The salon was nearly empty when I arrived, so that made me a bit concerned. Emily was efficient and I was in and out with a great trim in less than 45 minutes! And the price was right too! I heard the stylist next to us offer her client something to drink, but I was never offered anything. That's ok, I wasn't really thirsty. And although it wasn't a problem for me, it seemed like the stylists were having a hard time keeping the receptionist up front, they kept having to tell her "there's someone here" as she was hiding in the back room most of the time I was there.... I will definitely be back in 6 to 8 weeks for another trim! read more

Went back to Vida salon after about a year and half of not returning (had a 15% coupon). I was greeted by whom I am assuming was a manager. I was questioned on why I was asking for a 15% discount and I told her it was an email I had received, she told me rudely Next time I had to print it out. I explained that no one informed of that and I was going to show her the email on my phone; she just got up and left me sitting there until my hairstylist showed up. I asked for highlights that were not brassy and that is exactly what I got. She consulted with another stylist of a picture I had showed her (I have dark brown hair) and I reiterated twice I did not want brassy highlights.... Will not be returning. read more
