So here I was at home watching a show about dog sledding in Alaska on TV. Well my rottweiler also happened to be watching as well and she kinda thinks the TV is a magic portal. So as she saw this team of dogs taking off, she decided she wanted to go with them. She bashed her concrete head right into the screen, at first it looked like there wasn't any damage but eventually a very annoying and very permanent mark formed on the screen. So it's an opportunity to upgrade, and this time mount it onto a wall. I heard about Video only over the radio so I decided to check it out. This place is amazing. I'll never go to a big box store again. I came into there not knowing anything. I have two TVs at home one a 720p and our big one with the dog mark, a 40" 1080p. Resolution wise I can't really tell the difference. So I'm really not what you'd call a videofile. On Thanksgiving week our 64" tv died. After researching what current television might give me a picture comparable to my defunct plasma TV, I called Video Only to see if they had that model in stock. I was very fortunate to speak with Calvin, the best sales person I have ever encountered. He verified that the TV I had researched is indeed just the right one for me. His extensive knowledge of the TV and his honorable upstanding character shone through so that I felt completely comfortable ordering the TV over the phone sight unseen. That was the first time I ever made a large important purchase so easily and confidently. It turned out to have been exactly the right decision. An installer came out and got the TV up and running, but didn't teach me anything about how to get the most out of it. When I told Calvin I was having trouble using the remote and setting some of the software up, he graciously offered, out of the goodness of his heart, to come over and teach me what I needed to know. Calvin is a very patient and highly skilled teacher. As an older person, I can be slow to learn new technology. In our one meeting, he was able to get me completely up and running. It's been over 5 years since we purchased a new TV. My husband likes impulse purchases, especially when it comes to high-value items. For example, a few years ago he called me from a BMW dealership in Berkeley and mentioned to me that he's about to buy a new car. Similarly, last weekend I dropped him off at Video Only so that he can check out their TV selection...by the time I came back from my grocery run, he and the salesman Don were already in deep price negotiations on an LG flatscreen TV. Needless to say, he ended up buying the TV and loving it. This may sound as if my husband is naive and lets any salesman talk him into buying stuff. Au contraire: he's doing a lot of preliminary research and so by the time he got to Video Only - which had been highly recommended by our neighbor who also got a new TV here recently - he already new all the technical details of most models. Don, the salesman, was similarly up-to-speed and so the two of them were doing shop talk that went way beyond my knowledge. (I barely know how to turn the TV on and off.) Given that it was July 4th weekend, there were a lot of sales happening and so we got a pretty good deal on the TV as well as some extra perks such as a 5-year extended warranty, free home delivery and a free HTMI cable. Lastly, let me tell you a it about the shop: it feels like you're walking into a shop from back in the 90s. Seriously, it's a huge room with a bunch of TVs and a few salesmen walking around. It's quite the opposite from any BestBuy. But -to be honest- this is what I appreciated most about this place. They don't invest much into marking up the environment, but instead they want their products to shine. Plus, their salesmen know their stuff.
