My husband likes impulse purchases, especially when it comes to high-value items. For example, a few years ago he called me from a BMW dealership in Berkeley and mentioned to me that he's about to buy a new car. Similarly, last weekend I dropped him off at Video Only so that he can check out their TV selection...by the time I came back from my grocery run, he and the salesman Don were already in deep price negotiations on an LG flatscreen TV. Needless to say, he ended up buying the TV and loving it. This may sound as if my husband is naive and lets any salesman talk him into buying stuff. Au contraire: he's doing a lot of preliminary research and so by the time he got to Video Only - which had been highly recommended by our neighbor who also got a new TV here recently - he already new all the technical details of most models. Don, the salesman, was similarly up-to-speed and so the two of them were doing shop talk that went way beyond my knowledge. (I barely know how to turn the TV on and off.) Given that it was July 4th weekend, there were a lot of sales happening and so we got a pretty good deal on the TV as well as some extra perks such as a 5-year extended warranty, free home delivery and a free HTMI cable. Lastly, let me tell you a it about the shop: it feels like you're walking into a shop from back in the 90s. Seriously, it's a huge room with a bunch of TVs and a few salesmen walking around. It's quite the opposite from any BestBuy. But -to be honest- this is what I appreciated most about this place. They don't invest much into marking up the environment, but instead they want their products to shine. Plus, their salesmen know their stuff. Best Buy really messed up my order and my delivery, and you can't speak to the person who you dealt with in the store. There is only a national phone number, so I called Video Only. A gentleman by the name of Don was willing to handle everything on the phone, but I decided to go in. He was terrific. He knew exactly what I needed and scheduled a delivery and installation for the day after next. I could not have been more pleased. I will NEVER buy anything from Best Buy again. First they asked me to pre-order discontinued sony 43 inch tv, and I did. They told me it will take 7-10 days. 3 weeks gone, no news. I called them, they told, Truck is coming on Thursday, so I called on Thursday. They told me TV didn't come, next truck coming on Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon I went to shop, TV didn't come. Now Thursday they called me to inform TV won't come as it is discontinued. I can buy new Model, but I need to come to store right now and pay more. I asked I can pay remaining amount when new TV will come. They didn't agree, and asked me to cancel the order. So I did, now 1 week gone. I didn't get my money back. Called the store, now they gave me another number 253-854-8043, to call this corporate number and follow with them for money. Ron Keith is saying, it's not under his control now, they can't do anything. So they just sit on money for a month, without doing anything. Now I am calling on that number, nobody picks it up. If you want to get extra headache, then only buy anything from them, otherwise best buy, costco, amazon are much better and hassle free. I don't know when will I get my money back.... So after doing some google, I got their corporate office number (206) 444-1655. Corporate office told me they get paper work once in a week, so they will get paper tomorrow, and refund process will take another 7-10 days. So you can see, these guys are not local as claimed by buy local, their corporate office is in Seattle, WA. Even they gave me wrong number to follow-up, I don't know how they will survive with such behavior when you have amazing customer service from big giants. read more

It's Christmas holidays as you all know and I wanted a 4k TV for myself. I went to Best Buy and checked out the lowest cost TV they had, $219.99. I'm not looking for bells and whistles the TV can provide but just plain 4k. As you can say I was window shopping or just browsing but I started pondering if Video Only is really worth the competition to Best Buy. I see the store every time I drive past buy Best Buy and never thought about checking it until after I was browsing for 4k TV's. I went there, talked to the store manager, forgot his name but he gave me a deal I can not leave without. I looked at the lowest cost hdtv but unfortunately he said it was out of stocked, but he offered me the one next to it, but I still wasn't surprised as it didn't match up to Best Buy. I then bought up about competing against Best Buy he then acknowledge saying of course they compete. Not only did he priced matched, he out matched a Samsung Smart TV $50 less than Best Buy's Samsung Smart TV for $249.99. I took the deal because I could not get another one if I left. If I could recommend a TV store to go to it is this one. The store manager will out match Best Buy just to earn your business. Much worth checking out if I must say. read more

We needed up walking away with a new LG, perfect for our needs as our last TV up and died after only two years. I would highly recommend Ron. My husband and I started our homework on big-screen TVs last summer. We were so tired of the big box stores and their lack of product knowledge (when you could actually find someone to help you). We were truly surprised when I emailed Video Only in San Rafael with some questions about a particular model and got a response from their manager Mike Evans! He answered my questions, promised to beat all big box store prices and spend time showing us other options. We walked in on Black Friday and did exactly what he'd promised in his emails. Not only did he explain the difference between the models we were considering, but he totally undercut the competition and even threw in a 5-yr warranty on the 55" TV we purchased. We just purchased or second TV from video only. We tried to avoid the trek north of the city and, in our lazy haste, we wound up with the wrong set from another store. After two nights of trying to force ourselves to love the already wall mounted set, Meh. Who wants to spend that kind of cash on something that leaves you feeling empty? So early Saturday morning we agreed that we would go check out video only to see if they had our goldilocks set (we were replacing a 60" set, our first attempt was a 55" with better quality but insufficient size and manufacturers had moved to 65" - which we weren't sure about in terms of taking over the room). Don is the man! He helped us become comfortable with our choices and ultimate selection and got us on our way. In our eagerness to get home and repackage the ' too small' set, we left our new wall mount on the store counter. Grrrrrrrrr. We had had an easy conversation with Don during the sale and knew that he lived in the city. Once we discovered that we had in fact left the mount in the store, we hesitantly asked him if he would be so kind as to drop it by. Don went above and beyond by doing just that. Decided to check out Video Only since I had already been through traffic, and walked out with the TV 5 minutes later for $200 cheaper, including their 5-year warranty. Only get 1 start because that's as low as I can give. This place is terrible. After hearing their commercials over and over on KNBR I decided to take my girlfriend their for a new digital camera she wanted to buy. I have never had worse service than when I walked in the door. There were about 7 people standing around that looked like they worked there. 1 guy asked how we were doing and what we were looking for. when we told him a digital camera he directed us to the area where the cameras were located. They had about 16-20 cameras on display and get this.... only 1 camera actually turned on to try. When i brought this to the attention of the staff all they replied was the batteries were dead. Understandable, it was about 11 AM maybe they hadn't had a chance to charge. But they didnt even offer a solution. No one said well let me see what i can do to get this working. I was pretty disappointed since we traveled specifically to San Rafael to Video Only, and when I expesed my disappointment in the lack of functional equipment and asked how they expect someone to buy before they try, the sales man only said well you can just buy it, cause you have 30 days to return it. WHAT!.... Why would i do that??? Overall this place was a complete waste of time. I didn't look at their TVs, so this review is only in regard to their customer service and camera equipment, but they were terrible enough for me to never to look to them for a new TV when i need one. Save yourself sometime and visit the Best Buy across the street. Not saying they were much better but they actually had cameras that turned on. read more

The last time I bought a tv was at their store in the city which is now moved to this location. In the city I inadvertently parked at a yellow meter and my car got towed away. I'd seen this store many times driving past their competitor across the road - I wish I'd dropped in a few years ago, as I got a great deal here with surprisingly lower pricing than big box "discount" stores. I was in the market for a new amp to replace a good, but "outgrown" Denon. Got a great deal here on a Yamaha high end amp. I'd done my research online, knew what I want and had 2 model options to go with depending on price. With big box retailers and online pricing knowledge, I went in and asked what they had and what I was looking for and willing to buy on the day if the price was right. He offered a price which was about $200 below the big box "discounted" price - very happy, I snapped up the deal and have been happy since. I always shop around for pricey items like this, but I'd definitely check them out next time. Its a big store with wide, open aisles and perhaps not as many options as some of the bigger stores so Its probably a good idea to do some online research first on what you want to buy, but the prices here seem hard to beat, and I didn't find the sales guy pushy. For example, he asked if I needed speakers, and I expected the hard sell. Told him what I had (which are decent, mid-high end), and I'm all set on that front, and that was that - no pushiness at all - closed my deal and went home happy. read more

Bottom Line Up Front - Truly don't waste your time with other retailers. Video Only is best on price, sales knowledge (Don) and service. Details - I just bought a 2018 Samsung 65" QLED Model Q9FN. I'd been doing my research and went to Video Only to check it out in person. Over the past nearly 20 years I've bought from them, ten TV's for two different houses, including everything from the old projection TV's to the new smart TV's. I've never been disappointed in their price nor customer service. I don't slam other stores like the BigBox ones. They have their place but they aren't for me. I prefer what is essentially a version of the old-style local TV stores in towns I grew up, where it was just about the TV and nothing more. No high pressure sales. Just a good conversation about the specs, price, and then buy it. Although I'd done a lot of research, and I knew the specs, and have a technical background, Don, the salesperson was very good at filling in gaps on info I didn't know. I knew what the BigBox store was selling the Q9 for, and was taken aback when Don told me the price as it was hundreds of dollars lower for the same sealed-box unit. We did some negotiation on warranty and delivery, and I bought the unit. The TV is setup at home and I used it over the weekend and got familiar with the functions it has, along with the various streaming services. It's no wonder the latest Samsung Q9 is so highly rated and an excellent alternative to the LG OLED technology which is getting some criticism over potential "burn-in" where the QLED doesn't have that issue. I couldn't be happier with the Q9 All in all it was a pleasure buying from Video Only again and with Don specifically. read more

Heard of Video Only in an ad that I saw online over the internet. So I took out my phone to Yelp the closest Video Only nearby me. To my surprise, there is one not far from where I live. Went inside the store hoping to find a smart tv at a great price. They not only have a great price but an excellent selection of wide range TVs. I ended up thinking about buying the TV but at the same time, I wanted to do more research first before I buy.
