Great video rental shop! Their vinyl record section is a bit overpriced though (20-30% higher than other shops) and, as such, there is a big lack of turnover. You'll see the same used records at the same high prices for months and months and months which makes browsing feel repetitive. Perhaps the records are there for ambience and the intention is not to sell them? A+ for video rentals, C- for the vinyl side. read more

I second what everyone else said! This is an incredible shop. Sometimes you just feel like watching Future Shock with James Brown. Well, this is where you go to rent it!!! Blockbuster won't even know what you are talking about. They're all Nights in Rodanthe over there. I had to stop frequenting Videotheque because I don't know how to return videos on time. It's not their fault. It's my fault. They didn't ban me. I banned myself!! And when I get my act together and buy a calendar and a clock and realize what Wed before noon means....well, then I'll go back to frequenting this shop. I could spend hours and hours in this store dreaming of all the movies I'd like to rent. The categorization of the videos makes it easy for you to browse. Clean store, tons of selection. Unfortunately, it is just a dream. 4.75 for a video is more expensive than chain stores and even at the discount, which you have to pay a lump sum per # rentals upfront, is twice as much as I would pay at an independent video store, i.e. Interact in Pasadena. I just bought a subscription to Netflix so I'll use this store to help pick out my selections. The prices here really need to be more competitive since these days you can't really afford to throw money around on rentals. read more

In a society that has gone disposable and mechanistic, it is a gift to have places like this still around. I came into the store after 7pm looking for a movie to show in my HS classroom the next day. In a slight panic (the movie was checked-out), I was ready to sell my soul for a new copy (which they didn't have). However, the owner proceeded to call an area store to see if they had a copy available....and went further to inquire where in the store I could find it....It was above-and-beyond customer service. Great video shop!! I've been coming here since I can remember - even at their old location across the street. I love how they have everything organized and the staff is super friendly/knowledgeable. Whether I'm looking for a mainstream movie to watch or an obscure one for class when I was in school, they've almost always got it!! It's always fun to just checkout when you're in a walk in the neighborhood or pop in looking for nothing specific. They always have awesome sales going on as well! Rates are super reasonable and it feels great to support a local business :) Parking is usually pretty easy. There are two spots available in the back lot which you can enter from Fairoaks or the street parallel to it mission. Or you can usually find street parking somewhere on mission! I live down the street from this video rental establishment so I have frequently stopped in to pick up a flick. It is my belief that Blockbuster should be put out of business, the fact that they run specials and try to sell you membership deals and then don't back up the what they promote is reason enough. Therefore, I make an effort to support establishments like Videotheque in my neighborhood. Every time I have visited them the staff is more than helpful and friendly. If you are looking for a foreign film that is really hard to find or even a cult film that is always checked out you will find it here. If you spend more time at theaters like Laemmle than Mann or Pacific than you will definitely find something to rent. read more

Simply fabulous! I have ALWAYS found exactly what I was looking for - often with absolute last minute needs of very obscure or otherwise hard to locate DVDs. Videotheque has never let me down! I live in Santa Clarita and have experienced calling 20+ stores all around the greater LA area (Hollywood, Venice, Sana Monica, downtown LA, Silverlake etc...) and am always led back here. I'm really happy this is near me. They carry a lot of movies. Part of the whole experience of a brick & mortar store is the ability to talk to someone about movies as well as browse movies and have something tangible in hand. Obviously, this isn't a place to get a movie that is readily available at those cheaper automated machines. Besides newer movies, the movies they carry are older stock, and they have a very respectable foreign film and horror section. It's nice to be able to rent Halloween in the place where the movie was shot. I think the price is reasonable. I wish I had a similar cd music store next door. read more

VIDEOTHEQUE! I love this place, and the people that work here. They are always super helpful in putting you in the right direction to find the movie that you want. They have specialty, and foreign films. Also, a pretty big horror section! Each employee has a specific type of films they enjoy and can help you accordingly. They sell posters, shirts, postcards, DVD's, and snacks. If you wish that Blockbuster was still open, this is your place! (But honestly is so much better than Blockbuster ever was) There is a parking lot in the back of the business, and if you sign up for their newsletter by email, they will send you complementary rentals every month! read more

It is a funky store located in South Pasadena, run by a great owner and staff, and the selection of movies is wonderful. This is a great place to go if you are looking for obscure, foreign, silent and out-of-print movies from all over the world. They have supported Heritage Square Museum's "Silent and Classic Movie Nights" for the past few years and it has been a real treat to work with them. I recommend it. read more

I love that I was able to find the perfect birthday gift for my mom. She loves classic movies with Eva Gardner, Judy Garland, etc. The movie I was originally looking for was only for rent, but they have a pretty big collection that I found the next best thing. The movie was a little pricey, but worth it. Will definitely come back, even to rent. read more

When you can't drive all the way to Cinefile this place can help fill your rare film needs. The owner Mark is a big Godard fan and its obvious due to the excellent selection of French New Wave films. The staff is helpful and the selection great but the size of the space I think may put some constraint on the selection soon. Ah ha. I refuse to go to Blockbusters. This is an independent little dvd rental store, and the people working there look it. Video rental for three days: about $3.00. There's some trick about if its a weekend or not, so add or subtract $0.25. Cash only I think. Not the biggest selection in the world, but has a lot of international movies. I must agree that this video store has a selection that's great. I cannot say the same about the staff. One day I was at the store and I over heard the owner and 2 staff members talking about a customer. Their complaint about the customer was that he rents too many videos. Well duh? It's a video store! And it attracts cinephiles, so of course there will be customers who rent a lot. Then after they made that complaint, they went on making fun of his appearance and attitude. I was the only one at the store at the time and they thought I couldn't hear them, but I did and it just made me wonder what they probably say about me and other customers. Very unprofessional. That's why I decided to rent more from netflix as I don't have to deal with staff members who are all nice in front of you, but will talk about you once you left. Plus netflix has a lot of rare titles too, and even more at a very reasonable price. I'm all for supporting small shops, but if they act that way, I'll think twice. read more

Best movie rental store I've ever been to! Videotheque is one of the treasures of the San Gabriel Valley. They have all the great movies without the crappy ones you'd find at chain rental places. The best part is they have movies from the 20s, 30s, and 40s that are hard/impossible to find anywhere else, as well as art/indie/cult classics. It can be a bit confusing when you're looking for some movies movie (many are sorted by actor or director), but it's a pleasure to wander the aisles for unexpected finds. And of course, the staff are so very helpful with finding and recommending movies. I can't recommend Videotheque enough! read more

Incredible selection of dvds from all around the world, both popular and obscure. The staff is literally the walking dead with, I'm guessing, delusions of grandeur (think Portlandia times 10) but it really doesn't matter with a collection so vast and available. Never once has a DVD I've asked for been checked out. They also have a terrific bunch of movie posters for very cheap prices. read more
