so so so cool. the owner of the store showed us around and gave us his personal recommendations for stuff to watch. i bought some pretty cheap DVDs as well--definitely want to come back soon for one of their movie viewings!

Very fun store to look through. Especially for a nostalgia trip. They have wide selection of DVDs to look through. The international section really surprised me. There are many films that are not easily available or accessible that they have here. Many of which I have never heard before. The horror section is very well stocked as well with many titles, separated by famous directors, decades, etc. They even have vintage cartoons, TV series, avant garde and cult films, and even some VHS and other cool knick knacks for sale. The staff had Cowboy Bebop playing when we came in so that is already a sign of culture.

Amazing selection of everything! Beautiful fluffy cat to accompany the journey of navigating all videos. So much cool independent stuff.

I found 'Mystics in Bali,' which I loved, here. As a new local, it's super to have such a great store a few blocks away.

Shopping in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California…read more.. Somehow, I found free street parking on Hollywood Boulevard, almost right in front of Amoeba Music... It's an iconic place. I thought that I should look around inside... Wow... It has everything... jazz, top 40, soul, hip hop, ethnic music, CDs, vinyl, movies, used, new, merchandise, and more! I was truthfully overwhelmed. I will be back when I'm more focused and have more time! Note: Amoeba Music is also in San Francisco and Berkeley.

I've barely begun to dip my toe into deep appreciation of physical music mediums, and accompanied my wife here on her birthday search for a few specific vinyls and CDs. My search was narrow, hoping for a Odesza vinyl. I found two vinyls from the A Moment Apart album I was in search for with one being a used copy in a deep sea foam color while the other was a clear vinyl. Because I knew nothing about vinyls, I went to the front desk where Kelly took the time to show me how; 1) properly remove vinyls from their sleeve, 2) the direction to clean vinyls using a microfiber cloth, 3) check downs to go through when inspecting a used vinyl, and 4) in why's behind inspecting vinyls the way she recommended. In taking the time to show me how to check 3 separate clearance vinyls, I felt even more stoked about my Odesza used vinyl find as it was fun colored vinyl not yet in our collection and in beautiful condition. Kelly - thank you for not being a gatekeeper. You rock!

CAAAAN YOOOOU DIIIIIIG IT? Poo-Bah can!…read more Poo-Bah Record Shop is a time machine disguised as a music store, and let me tell you--it's the place for anyone who appreciates good tunes and even better customer service. My recent visit felt like stepping into a live Spotify mixtape, and here's why. I went in on a mission: find some records as a Christmas gift for a high schooler who's super smart, learning to play piano by ear, and whose taste in music is a mystery to me. No pressure, right? I grabbed a couple of records with piano-heavy tracks and headed home. But something told me, "Maybe give these a spin before handing them off." Glad I did--one of the albums had lyrics I wasn't exactly keen on giving to a kid. Determined to support a small business (because, let's face it, every dollar counts more there), I went back to see about an exchange. Walking in, I braced myself for an awkward return situation. I explained my dilemma at the counter, saying I didn't want a refund but was open to suggestions. And that's when the magic happened. The guy at the register immediately hopped off and started digging through records to find something more suitable. Then, the owner joined in--tag-teaming the search like Billy Taylor and Quincy Jones putting together a jazz masterpiece. They didn't just recommend records; they curated options with the care of someone arranging the perfect piano solo. At one point, I half-expected Ray Charles to pop out from behind the counter, saying, "Now this is how you dig Baby!" They found me some Count Basie to keep things swinging, threw in some Modern Jazz Quartet for that cool, intellectual vibe, and made me rethink my entire approach to gift-giving. I walked out with four records instead of two, grinning like a kid at their first jam session. These folks didn't just help me solve a gifting problem; they brought me back to a time when crate-digging was an art form and music was the language of discovery. As a former DJ, I know the joy of unearthing hidden gems, and Poo-Bah's team shares that same passion and knowledge. If you're into music and crave a place where the love for it runs deep, Poo-Bah Record Shop is it. This place isn't just a record store; it's a soundtrack to the golden era of music and a reminder of why we love vinyl in the first place.

And this place? It gets it. There's something about flipping through dusty records that just hits different. It's like walking into a thrift store and catching that mid-century smell--you either understand it or you don't. I do. I live in band tees 90% of the time, and this spot is basically my natural habitat. I've built up little collections over the years--certain genres, classics I refuse to let go of--and being here made me actually consider bringing some pieces back in. But also... you never know when the internet might betray you, and suddenly that random DVD becomes essential again. The vibe here is unmatched, super nostalgic without trying too hard. And the service? Genuinely great. Friendly, helpful, and not pushy at all. Also--fell completely in love with a Madonna T-shirt that I absolutely need in my life. Definitely coming back. Easy five stars.

I have heard of this place for a long time but never set foot in it until yesterday…read more I had a our 75 DVDs and 65 CDs I wanted to get rid of so I remembered about CD trader. The experience was fine and the sale of them went super smooth,. They were very fast checking them and having my money ready but the 2 guys behind the counter that were helping me were pretty rude and unwelcoming. Just the way they talked to me and seems very unfriendly. I've never brought items in to sell and don't know how fast they would go they them since it was a Saturday and I figured they would be busier then a weekday, I took a bunch of games to sell to GameDude a week previous and they took like 4 hours to go thru them. I literally had to drop them off and come back hours later. I didn't know if that was the norm or what. So i walked in with just my crate of CDs, because I figured I could always come back another day with the DVDs but i got called fast. Since it went quickly I figured I'd bring my DVDs in, and then I told one guy that I had a crate of DVDs to bring in also and he snapped an was like "Why didn't you bring them all in at one time?" I'm sorry I actually thought I was doing them a favor because maybe it was busy or they were short staffed. How the hell am I supposed to know? So then I brought the crate of DVDs in. I also lost my voice a few days prior and was just getting on back so my voice is pretty low at the moment l, so when I spoke to them, they were like "What? I can't hear you". Almost like I was annoying them with my low voice. I don't know if they were the owners or what, they were older guys and not some younger employee so I assume maybe owners or managers. So my point is the stores pretty cool and they have some great stuff, but the two guys in front were kinda dicks. Doubt I'll be back.
