This place, in regards to culinary experiences found in North carolina is a serious anomaly . It competes with some of the best foods Ive had in Europe and is now my favorite spot in NC. The ambiance, being upscale, artistic, fancy and romantic is also somehow very, fun, laid back and relaxed. I don't know how they can walk that line so perfectly but at Vidrio they really do. Food is exceptional and the wine flight nearly made me cry tears of Joy. I had the Mushroom polenta, explosive flavor bomb leaving you very full with a beautiful earthy quality, the mission fig flat bread, delicate and harsh flavors balancing each other out in a very subtle and refreshing way, the beef skewers, which were seasoned perfectly and resting on an a delicious smoky sauce, and the cheese tray which was a well chosen trio to pair with my wine. Highly recommend this place its now my favorite in all of NC! Btw Laura, or at-least I'm pretty sure thats what she introduced herself as, was the most kind, charismatic and intentional bartender I have had up to this date. There are two reasons I will never go back to Vidrio. One is the terribly high noise level from loud music and ambient noise. We could not talk across the table to the other couple. Two is the dysfunctional valet parking. Disastrous! I thought it was difficult dropping off my car, but getting it back after we ate was almost impossible. Vidrio does not run the valet service so they have no skin in the game of getting your car back. Beware! read more

If you're looking for a place outside the Typical Raleigh restaurant - Vidrio is it. And it is because of this individuality and their consistency in each of my excellent dining/drinking experiences that I'm giving five stars. Just stepping thru the doors brings you into a new world. Uniquely tasteful architecture and design greet you with the feeling that you might just be in a bigger city. But even with the initial wave of that feeling comes a homey, down-to-earth atmosphere. I've been 5-6 times now and I have yet to have sub-par service, cuisine or drink. I have hosted both business and fellowship gatherings and I would strongly encourage anyone to do the same. It's also a GREAT spot for a handcrafted cocktail after work! As is common place with an app like Yelp, most reviewers are inclined to deliver a review after a bad experience - not a great one. I can't remember the last time in Raleigh I felt so taken care of by a restaurant's staff. From the observant manager -- Robert, who had noticed we circled the bar a few times and helped us scope out two seats -- to the bartender who waited on us through our dinner with his perfectly timed drink requests, the service was top-notch. The Seether cocktail is delicious - perfect for those of us who love sweet but not too sweet and can handle just a bit of tartness! We started with the charred octopus which was so tender (loved the hint of chorizo in the vinaigrette) and the beef tartare (a definite favorite), and then moved on to the hanger steak (cooked perfectly as we requested with a great salsa verde) and the pork shoulder (also delicious) with the chestnut gnocchi as a side (we loved this -- ours was not dry at all like other reviews suggest!). Between those two large plates (hanger steak vs. pork shoulder), the hanger steak is the way to go. We're looking forward to going back. It seems as though they've already improved on some issues mentioned in previous reviews, and I imagine it will only get better from here! read more

When I made reservations Dan helpfully informed me that valet parking is $4 and the garage nearby is $5. He also explained that Vidrio means "glass" in Spanish. When we entered the dining room we understood the reason for the name. How stunning a view! One wall is artistically decorated with what appears to be hand blown glass plates. Our hostess showed us to a cosy corner booth where we could admire the towering high ceilings and lovely wooden floors. It is restaurant week. I chose hummus for my first coursed and shrimp with polenta for my second course. Both were delightful and plentiful. I have enough left over for another meal tonight. I will definitely go back to this restaurant. read more

Went in on Saturday April 24th for dinner. Just received our drinks and food. As soon as we took our first bites the fire alarm went off and we were forced to leave. We were told to wait outside while they "figured it out". While we waited outside in the rain we eventually went back in to see what the status was. The host told us that we had to leave because they were closing for the night. I understand things happen that are out of the restaurants control. But, it could have been handled a little better. Me and my husband went to Vidrio this Saturday, it was an impromptu plan - and they offered us bar seating so no waiting (like that!). The food and beer we ordered was amazing, my husband loved the crisp Joyce's farm chicken- he said he never had better chicken and is still wondering what went it to make it so irresistible, I ordered the harissa and pita bread and that was just fine as well. I was pleasantly surprised by Vidrio and think it's more deserving than 3.5 stars. This place is beautifully decorated with 'blowing glass bowls' and has a super edgy but elegant design. Upon entrance there is a large wooden table with a wine collection to your left. If you walk down that hall, you'll find a huge private room that is absolutely stunning (I definitely am considering it for a future private dinner party). In front of the door you can see the chefs cooking which comforts me because of the kitchen is public, then the food is good. To the right of the entrance is a huge bar for a more intimate setting with bar setting, table high tops, and even couches around a fireplace. The main dining area has a high-ceiling decorated with wooden lanterns; the walls are lined with couches on one side and benches on the other; there's a room in the back that is surrounded by large TVs as well as an upstairs with additional seating! Let's talk good-- GREAT. My friend and I order the fig spread flatbread with bleu cheese and arugula, the Moroccan beef skewers, and the Agnolotti pasta. Everything was absolutely tasteful! Atmosphere was comfortable, wall decoration mesmerizing. Wine selection was good. We had the charcuterie plate, crispy zucchini and artichokes and chorizo from the Mezze menu to start. Charcuterie was nicely curated, not your usual picks. Zucchini was excellent, breading was light, crisp, not greasy, well seasoned. I could taste the zucchini, not just breading. Disappointed in the artichokes. Chorizo was more of a dressing but added nothing to the dish and even the heavy lemon still couldn't mask the jarred (or canned) taste to the artichokes. There was an over-brininess to the dish. Herb and lettuce salad was lovely. Greens were fresh and light. My husband had the wood grilled sirloin as entree and I had the braised short ribs. Both were outstanding. Sirloin properly seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Short ribs were meltingly tender and complimented by the pomegranate glaze. I could eat that every day. We ordered desserts to go. There were 3 dessert selections but we were informed that one was not available so we ordered the other two, baklava and a sweet potato cake. The menu noted that the baklava was served with ice cream but since we had a stop on the way home, I asked that the ice cream be left off figuring it would melt on the way. Our server was being trained by a senior server and the new server took our dessert order. What I did not know was that the baklava was not of traditional composition. It was more of a modern deconstruction capturing the essence of baklava (which sounds interesting ) but if served without the ice cream, you would really only get some triangular pieces of crisped, sweetened phyllo dough. The ice cream was integral to the dish and shouldn't be left off. The server should have informed me of this when I requested no ice cream as it would have influenced whether I ordered it or not. As happened, however, the ice cream was not removed as I had requested after all and by the time we got home, we had soggy pieces of phyllo dough and chunks of sweet potato cake slowly disintegrating in a sea of melted ice cream. Both desserts went into the garbage can. Yes, I should have checked the desserts before leaving the restaurant but they came out packaged to-go so I didn't think to open the bag. The only other thing I would ding the restaurant on is service. This is more of a personal preference, I am aware, but still worth noting as there may be others of like mind out there. We go out to dinner for a leisurely, relaxing meal. Our servers were so attentive that we were checked on at least 5 times during the course of our meal. It made the dinner feel rushed as if they were trying to hurry us along. I prefer the style of service where the food is served and the server remains at a distance but makes eye contact regularly in case we need him/her/them. So much checking in, where well-intended, actually interrupts the flow of conversation at the table. But overall, the dinner was nice and I'd go back if for nothing more than those delectable short ribs. read more

What a beautiful resto! Built from the ground up and sparing no expense and kudos for just doing things for artistry's sake! The bourbon cocktail I had was refreshing and well-made. We started with the grilled octopus, very tasty even if the beans were a little mealy. The olives were excellent, probably natives of Greece or Spain, oysters were very fresh and they kept the oyster liquor which so many American restos do not do, but the mignonette could use more than 1-2 shallot bits, please! I was surprised the Brussels sprouts were brought first, but still very good. The steak dish was flavorful and worked well with the delicious rich red wine we brought with only $15 corkage fee. The only real complaint is the tables are far too small for the tapas approach and the plates were too big for tapas, need to work on that one. Overall, well done and we will be back to this beautiful space! read more

We had our corporate Christmas party at Vidrio this year. Everyone who attended raved about the atmosphere, food and service. The events manager, Chelsea, made organizing the event very simple from start to finish and maintained great communication throughout the whole process. The venue as a whole is very unique and offers plenty of beautiful things to look at while you dine. The food selection was fantastic and everything served was delicious! I was a plus one for a company party. Beautiful venue but the food was very bland. The chicken was mushy and after one bite I could not eat another. The salmon was dry but it was edible. The hangar steak was the best according to several people. The cauliflower side had ABSOLUTELY no seasoning. It was just limp with a few grill marks? The potatoes also had no flavor. I understand wanting to serve a variety of flavor palates but going plain is not the way unless you serve sauces on the side. The spinach salad with red onions and toasted pine nuts was yummy. It was a simple salad but very enjoyable. The wait staff was also lacking. They seemed upset if we asked for drinks. A few people wanted coffee and one lady kept saying it was not part of the preplanned meal. Everyone offered to pay but she was not happy about it. Visiting from Seattle and had a lovely dinner with my son. I'm not really a wine person, but the general manager stopped by and recommended a few options and also brought me one to taste. It was just right. We had the skewers which were a little spicy for me, but the sauce they came with really helped balance the spiciness. We also shared the beet salad and fig flatbread, which were very nice too. The highlight of the meal was the pork large plate. What began as a great evening with service (our servers were great) and drinks turned into being told by management (Elkin) that we would no longer receive service because someone else wanted our table. This information was delivered in a rude manner (we were paying customers the ENTIRE time we were there). The restaurant was not at capacity and the table next to us was not asked to do the same. We were also not seated in a reservation area, we were seated in the bar area for walk-in parties. I did not want to feel it was a racially charged request but given the circumstances, this is the only logical reason to ask a full party of paying non-combative customers to leave, we simply weren't the right skin color to stay.
