Even though I live in Philadelphia, I've been going to Viet Pho for years, and there's a reason for that. The first pho I ever tasted was at Viet Pho, and I thought wow, what a discovery, I'll be eating pho all over the place if it's always this good. It's not. Having been to a number of other Vietnamese places, it is no exaggeration that I have never had pho anywhere that was even close to being as good as Viet Pho. For example, I once ordered pho somewhere else and was bluntly told they did not offer vegetable broth. Which I found impossible to believe, because Vietnamese cuisine is known for being super vegetarian friendly. At Viet Pho, no such problem. The options for my vegetarian partner seem endless. Me, I start with the veggie broth, add in the vermicelli (you can ask for extra, they won't mind), finishing off with shrimp. I find that going with the vegetable broth makes the entire combination lighter, brighter even. A very clear base, accentuating everything else in the bowl. The shrimp, ample, firm and excellent. The vermicelli maintains its texture throughout, never turning mushy as I've found at other places. Top with as many bean sprouts as you can squeeze in, add a dash or two of hot sauce, and you're set. My go-to appetizer is the fresh roll - shrimp please (you may sense a pattern). Chewy outside, crisp inside, the dipping sauce delectable. I've also tried their crunchy vegetable assortment appetizer, and though it is intended to be shareable, I wasn't in the mood to share, and consumed the entire plate myself. Viet Pho is an easy-going, modest enterprise, trafficking as much in take-out as it does the dine-in crowd. Though the space is on the small side, a banquette lining the wall sets off the dining area, kicking it up a notch from what you find at many take-out places. True, the center of the seating area serves as a runway for the constant stream of meals heading out the door for pick-up, so things can get a bit bustling. In fact ... I wish I had asked for her name. On a busy Saturday afternoon, the dining area as well as all the take-out was being managed by one and only one server. She was a dynamo, always on the go, back and forth across the floor, handling everything all by herself. Something to see, actually. The modest strip-mall exterior of Viet Pho might make it easy to miss, but don't. I'm pretty sure you'll like what you find inside. read more

Wow! I can't believe I just found this place. Viet Pho, owned and operated by Young, who has been open seven years here but also had a place in the Cumberland Mall. The food is absolutely delicious. The Viet Platter with chicken breast and vermicelli is just full of flavor and perfect on a hot day. Young was our server, and she said she serves one day a week and also works in the kitchen one day a week to keep costs low. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Trying all the different Pho Spots in South Jersey. This is our 4th one and it's our least favorite. We're comparing the Pho flavor to what we're used to in Philly. All of Philly Pho is delicious. Since moving to South Jersey we've been trying to find our Pho Spot and this is not it. We ordered the Pho Beef Special- nothing special about it. Had maybe 3 pieces of beef, 2 meatballs and a handful of bean sprouts. Broth was bland but we could taste the cinnamon. We also ordered the fresh shrimp spring rolls and it was less than mediocre. Food wasn't good. I had grilled chicken with vermicelli and the chicken wasn't fresh, the chicken was the frozen chicken strips you get from the supermarket ,and the noodles were cold. Fried dumplings fillings were frozen. I also had iced coffee and it tasted like Vietnamese instant coffee. My husband had general tso chicken and it tasted like the frozen chicken tenders from the supermarket. Egg rolls were nasty, it tasted like they reused the same oil for months. The curtain by the kitchen was dirty and every time they bring the food out, the food touches the dirty curtains. Over all not a good experience, food was nasty not authentic Vietnamese food at all! Hidden gem in South Jersey! After almost 20 years of traveling near and far to get this Vietnamese specialty for our "noodle boy" son ... we're pretty particular about our pho. So, when he suggested that we try out this place in Deptford, NJ ... our expectations weren't too high, especially as we haven't had much luck previously as we got farther and farther away from our usual places in Philly. Got there as they opened at 11am on a Saturday and had our pick of tables ... which were all nicely distanced apart. As we studied our menus, we ordered some drinks. First, me with some iced Vietnamese coffee (cafe sua da) ... which I quickly switched to be the same as my son's iced milk tea (without boba/bubbles). It was a pretty good start! DS stuck to his usual ... a pho special with everything ($10.99) ... and I tried the Bun Bo Hue special ($10.99) as I wanted something spicy. All pho had choice of soup base (i.e., beef, chicken, vegetarian, or spicy) and choice of noodle (i.e., rice, egg, vermicelli) with only 1 size and where single meat options were all same price ($7.99). Bowls were a bit on the smaller side and had less noodles than in Philly. However, sizing was comparable to other places in Jersey, but the flavor was definitely better ... still not like Philly's (though probably healthier with less MSG). The highlight was my just-rightly spiced and slightly sweet-sour soup with slightly doughier rounded rice noodles vs. the usual flat rice pho noodles. So...I've been here before, when they first opened the place. First experience was awful. And today wanted to try it out again years after. Still not my cup of tea, sorry to say. Someone needs to teach me how to do a solo DRAGON DANCE of HAPPINESS because at long last I have discovered a Vietnamese dining location that actually embodies freshness and yummyness with great service. And, it's close enough that I could get there every day too ... Ok, that going to one restaurant every day runs counter to my ongoing hunt for great places to eat but there are days ... there are truly days when as human being needs some really good PHO! PHO may be the culinary world's perfect in the bowl creation when prepared with care and love because of the mixture of slow cooking, which allows the broth to become enhanced with a range of delicate flavors, fresh quality meat (I am a CARNIVORE as noted in another review but there are non-meat options too.), and most importantly FRESH herbs. Add in quality noodles, the sustenance of almost every culture, and a few other items ... so perfect but one needs an establishment willing to invest their effort to please the dining public! I want bright, shining and clean at my PHO choices. Walking through the doors of this shopping plaza location the aroma of Pho struck home instantly and I hope I wasn't making audible sounds of pleasure but I was feeling happiness and anxious to get to the menu. Service was super outstanding ... they were interested in me, willing to help with questions and patient as I debated the choices. Steamed dumplings and PHO ... my goodness the PHO is ultra reasonably priced, which of course is a big plus for Dave!! In their simplicity dumplings offer diners a good opportunity to determine the quality of a kitchen. These chicken lemongrass dumplings were savored bite by bite by me. So good .... but then the BIG BOWL was delivered ... The steamy broth flavors reached my nose and I grabbed a spoon to go for the broth, which all by itself was delicious. The herbs were so fresh and good. The meat as it should be ... I imagined myself sitting in a bistro in Ho Chi Minh City ... a meal that was transforming. A meal that was satisfying ... I saw desserts delivered to another table and they looked oh so good but the dumplings plus the Pho had done me in. I am a happy boy ... DRAGON DANCING as I type and remembering that special meal! Walked in in a rainy Saturday afternoon. Very friendly and attentive service. Ambience was low key at the time. Most tables were just solo diners like myself. A family of 3 walked in before I left. Lots of "door dash" orders. To start I had the spring rolls with beef vegetable. Served right outta the deep fryer and it was perfectly crisp! It was also so flavorful that I didn't want to wait for it to cool down. I then had the beef brisket in beef broth with rice noodles. It was also served hot and that is exactly how I like my soup. (Too many restaurants, even 5 star places, serve lukewarm soup). Broth was delicious on its own but I still decided to squeeze the lemon in after adding the other garnishes. It was also so good that I didn't need to add any hoisin nor the siracha and I'm usually such a condiment person! Added a few bean sprouts for some crunch. I wanted to finish the bowl because it was so good but I couldn't and had to bring left overs home. During lunch I had just iced water but I did bring a very yummy Taro flavored Bubble Tea to go. Food was good but when ordered the dumpling sampler I specifically asked if there was a way to replace the shrimp since I clearly mentioned I am pregnant and could not eat seafood and she said there wouldn't be since apparently the chef "doesn't use shrimp anymore in the sampler". We ordered the crispy veg rolls as the app. Very tasty...just add some Sriracha to the dipping sauce...we had the shrimp pho in veg broth a and the brisket pho in beef broth... both are quite delicious and come out quickly. Let me count the ways in which Viet Pho disappointed: 1 - Online orders are through GrubHub, (the bloodsucking bastards), which made our order of 2 bowls of pho, a spring roll, and a banana roll come out to just shy of FIFTY DOLLARS! 5-0. yikes. 2 - (Maybe this one is also on GrubHub, but....) delivery guy put the food on the porch and peaced out. No knock, no doorbell, nothing. It was about 15 minutes before we got the email that the food had been delivered. Our Pho sat on my porch in 10 degree weather the whole time. 3 - the broth came in an extremely slender, cylindrical tupperware, and the noodles, sprouts and basil came in a small styrofoam container. Soooooo, how do I eat this? Do I pour the broth into the sytrofoam? Do I try to fit the noodles into the tupperware that's filled to the brim? This was a big problem because... 4 - ....we were ordering out because we were in our new house, and had ZERO dishes. I had to actually go to the store and buy bowls AND cutlery, because they ALSO didn't send any utensils to eat the food with. 5 - after all that, it wasn't even that good. Ugh. Pho is a cold weather treat for me. When its freezing out, a nice, hot bowl of Pho really hits the spot. When I was in philly, we would always go to Pho Saigon and get a great bowl. Hell, even Pho54 in Mt. Laurel was better than this. To get 'meh' pho, COLD because they left it on the porch, with no way to eat it; either bowl nor utensil, really just ruined it for me. Let me start off by saying I have never written a review in my life. Even at places I have not been a fan of, it was never worth the time to write a review about... but I felt like I would be doing the public a disservice by not warning them about this place in advance. I had the unfortunate experience of dining at this pho restaurant recently, and I must say it was a deeply disappointing and unpleasant visit. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt off, but it was the waitress who truly made the experience memorable for all the wrong reasons. She was not just unpleasant but went beyond that, displaying a level of rudeness that I had never encountered before from a waitress. The rudeness aside, the food was another major letdown. I ordered the pho, and what I received was barely edible. The broth lacked flavor, and the ingredients seemed low in quality. It was clear that they were cutting corners in the kitchen. I regret to say that I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, not even to my worst enemy. The combination of subpar food and an exceedingly rude waitress made this a dining experience I'd rather forget. Super busy restaurant. Although busy still had great service. I got a rare brisket and beef ball phó, and pork egg rolls. The meat was fantastic. The broth was a little more salty than I like. A simple unsalted broth would set this place right. I like to add what I want to the broth. The pork egg rolls. Meh. Other places I have gotten a fully filled egg roll. The food is so good and I would rate it higher but I just can't after the service I have had time and time again. The older white woman server has a terrible attitude and it ruins the whole experience for us. We walked in and were not greeted, but she came to the table with her mouth full of food and threw our menus down. She hangs around the tables for too long talking to people who have their mouth full and don't want to talk. She has thrown a dirty rag on to the table while we were finishing up eating. She has delivered our food to the table and pushed the person I was eating with out of the way to put down their food instead of walking around the table. She was had attitude every single time we have her as a server. It's always great to have new restaurants by the house. Saw this place on Yelp so i had to stop by with the wife since it got a 4.5 star rating (5/25/2018). The place looks very nice and modern. Nice folks, but let's now jump into the food! Ordered the Rice Platter with Grilled Chicken. Was a bit disappointed since i wanted the Vietnamese egg quiche which wasn't on the menu, so I was hoping they had a sunny side up one, but nope! none at all! My wife ordered the grilled pork vermicelli w/ no peanuts. 1 minute of taking the order, they came back asking us to confirm the order and it was wrong, so we gave the order again. The food came at an acceptable time; however, wife's order came with peanuts. She doesn't like eating peanuts, so she had to pick it out. the tables already have plates setup with a spoon, fork and napkin on it. upon taking the napkin and utensil off, the plate was not clean. My wife didn't mind it because she was only using it to toss out the unwanted peanuts. My order came and the first thing that popped out was the Chicken. It was this Yellow/Orange tint on it. Very odd color, likely from their seasoning? The chicken was extremely thin as well. The plate included White Rice, two pieces of lettuce with pickled carrots and radish and a small dish of super light fish sauce mixture. Digging in, The rice wasn't cooked consistent: some were pretty hard. I think the worst was that this didn't taste like any "Asian" style rice. Might American white rice. Vietnamese uses broken rice as well, so the texture was totally off and the aroma wasn't there at all. The chicken doesn't taste like any Vietnamese grilled chicken to me, but almost similar to South East Asian Grilled chicken or chicken on the stick that you get from BBQs. Not saying was terrible, but wasn't expected. If they had pictures of this on the menu, I would have chosen Grilled pork instead. Overall, I wasn't pleased with the experience. My wife noted that the vermicelli platter lacked some herbs like mint and basil, but she will likely provide her review at her own time. (She didn't enjoy it tho) This restaurant may do okay if there weren't so many Vietnamese Restaurants around the area. There are so many on both Philly and NJ side, so I don't think I will be coming back here again. read more

UPDATE: second visit was just as good as the first! Soooo good! We'll be back!! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I visited here with two other vegetarians and we all LOVED our experience! The owner, Forever Young, is friendly, energetic, and especially helpful with ordering. With her guidance, we decided on a variety of dishes that we all could share, so we'd get to try out a lot without eating too much in the process. We ordered the Sweet Potato Crispy Roll, the Veggie Crispy Roll, the Veggie Ham Fresh Roll w/vermicelli, the Tofu Noodle Soup, and some other veg'n items I don't recall but are pictured. Every item was DELICIOUS!! The veggies tasted fresh and high quality and the proteins were the exact right texture, inside and out. I'm not normally a soup fan, but Ms Young's broth was the tastiest I'd ever had - I found out later about her special cooking process and how it infuses the broth with more flavor. Speaking of flavors, this meal presented me with new flavors and textures unlike any I had ever eaten before - and I've eaten creative and gourmet foods all over the world. These dishes are literally crave-worthy, in fact, I've been craving them ever since. Other interesting tidbits: it's nicely decorated and has a really enjoyable ambience - modern and comfortable, bright and clean. Much of the art you see on the walls was created by the owner or her friends. They serve veg'ns as well as meat-eaters, both with an abundance of tasty options. Prices are reasonable. Parking is plentiful. And, if you fancy a nice long post-meal stroll, there's plenty to walk to along the vast strip mall in which Viet Pho is located. They "were out" of soft tendon, my favorite pho topping, but failed to make any mention of the fact when I ordered their Beef Pho Special specifically because it includes soft tendon. The floor staff person also couldn't have cared less when I raised this point with her or expressed my concern that there was only a minuscule amount of tripe, my second favorite topping, in this "Special". As well, I thought their beef pho broth was too sweet. Comparing to most other pho places, it was immediately disappointing to see the bowl come out only half filled. read more

The waitress was doing it all, serving, answering phones and being the hostess, felt bad for her, but she did it with a smile and was very pleasant and efficient. Fast and great price! Awesome pho. They add extra veggies and cilantro in their broth, which really adds to the flavor. We ordered the well done brisket pho. Good amount of brisket. Brisket a little fatty. Spring rolls very different than I've ever had. But very, very tasty. Worst part is the close quarters and the draft from the front door is felt everywhere. Not great in winter. But im sure its fine in the summer. Dumplings were ok but they came out cold. Would've been better if they were hot. We had to send them back to be warmed. Even then, they were warm and not hot. It's great seeing more asian restaurants pop up around the area. I really like how they also serve boba here. I don't have to drive up all the way to cherry hill to grab some now! First thing I noticed was that the menu was more americanized and user friendly. Very easy to order the meal of choice without getting confused with the language barrier. Servers were very attentive and food came out in a timely manner. I was surprised to see the restaurant tables half filled; many of the guests enjoyed their meals. Personally for me, the beef broth of the pho was bland for my taste and i had to add more hoisin and sriracha to add flavor. read more
