It's was nice to come back after many years, and see that they are still here in the same spot. I spoke to the owner, and they have been in this same spot for 23 yrs! I ordered the pho, which was simply beef and meatballs. The broth was homemade, basically the same as what a Vietnamese friend made when they had our family over. Yes, you have to adjust the broth, if you're into pho. And yes, you have to ask for the fish sauce, and the sugar is in packets. The service is impeccable. The dining room is in order, without stacks of boxes in the hallway, and clean. There's plenty of parking. The bathrooms are clean. The owners treat you with kindness, a smile, and gratitude for your business. All these things count a lot nowadays. By the way, their homemade Tiramisu is out of sight! Warning - rant and support for local business: I was sad to read all the 1 star reviews. Most of it was for the blandness of the broth, and comparisons of this place to authentic spots in Frogtown, St. Paul. A little bit of history: they were here long before Maplewood Mall food court is now filled with Asian fare; even before Pho King showed up in the food court for those who remember. Back then, Vietnam Star was the only viable Asian option in these parts. By these parts I mean around Maplewood Mall and Costco. Here's the thing, the primary clientele here are Anglos, not Asians. In fact, today for lunch I was only 1 of 2 Asians in the dining room. So my expectations are adjusted accordingly. It is not in Frogtown, even though that's technically not that far away. But when you're shopping in Maplewood, Frogtown might as well be in Wayzata. So when I'm around here, I know the food in the mall maybe more to my taste. However, sometimes I don't want to sit in a big mall full of people, watching my back, pay a lot of money for small portions, and be treated like crap on top of it. Sometimes, I just want to go to a nice place, be treated like a human being, and sit down in a booth to have a big bowl of pho. So what if I have to adjust the broth? I'm in Maplewood for crying out loud. Let's all be fair and support local businesses that are trying to make it work. read more

My second visit and the food and service were just as good as the first time. The staff (owners?) were super friendly and our food came out quickly and did not disappoint. I recommend the spicy chicken, the pho, egg rolls, and wontons. The store and restrooms were also well kept and clean. Take the extra 15 min to go to Pho 400, Pha Ca Dao, or the many other better Pho restaurants in St. Paul along University Ave. The portion here is TINY for a base of $16, with very little meat, noodles or aromatics. Mainly broth, which, as I mentioned beforehand, is quite watered down and lacking any flavor, and some pieces of what you had ordered RE: meat, cilantro, onions, etc. The host/ess, servers and workers are EXTREMELY NICE AND ACCOMODATING! Why I feel bad giving such negative review for the food. It is obvious that there are people who come regularly, and that is a great community support system. However, I come for the food. What a very welcoming restaurant! After driving 3 hours from Hayward WI to MSP, we decided to exit from the highway to look for lunch options. I recently visited this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised about the new look of the place. From the floor to the ceiling was everything changed. It is clean, friendly, nice pictures on the wall, flowers on the table. Very welcoming. We ordered some spring rolls, Wonton soup, (tried their Tamarind soup too.) Entries were Tom Rim shrimp and Singapore noodles. All were very delicious. Lots of flavors, good portion, affordable price. We were lucky having Christy, the owner to serve us. I ordered the shrimp in garlic sauce and the chicken pad thai. I would give the shrimp dish a solid 5 out of 10. Good flavor and there was some effort here. But the Pad Thai was an abysmal dish! He ordered their "CRISPY SESAME CHICKEN" and I ordered the FUN CHOW. his food was soggy and bland..it was the CRISPY that caught his eye. My noodles were gummy and flavorless. The sauce was all corn starch it was thick with no flavor and no color. I tried to add chili oil and oyster sauce to give it flavor...it did not help. Oh yea, we also had a veggie egg roll, it was full of grease and really thick, unlike any Vietnamese egg roll I've ever had, it also had no flavor. $43 right in the garbage. Guys, I am disappointed to hear that this place is not honest. Had a close friend eat here earlier today, left his phone on accident came back not too long after and they claim his phone was not there even though he was able to locate it through finds my friends and GPS that clearly say it is in the restaurant. Always wondered if I should eat here since it is nearby a friend's place but seen the prices, and would rather go to Minneapolis, Saint Paul or back near my place in Brooklyn Park. A classic SE Asian restaurant. Their Vietnamese style egg rolls are delicious. I've eaten here a handful of times and found the service to be variable, but decent. Tonight my server was very good - prompt and attentive, but not hovering. The food is on par with other Thai and Vietnamese fare I've tasted. I'm fond of the sliced pork and egg roll noodle salad.
