Absolutely love the Viking Inn! So many options to be found on the menu, it was hard to choose. I ended up having an omelette and we got mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. Mozzarella sticks were delicious, the hashbrowns omelette and toast was perfect. The staff was so kind, everyone helped each other out, walked around to all the tables so we got multiple servers which was great. My friend and I were having a meeting so we were there for quite a few hours, and the staff was very accommodating, they didn't rush us at all. This is such a great local spot, anytime a day and any day of the week you can't go wrong. read more

The food and service are ok for the value, unfortunately this is the only real sit down restaurant in town, so we go occasionally.

Delicious breakfast. Large portions. I had the French toast and the bacon eggs and hash browns that came with it were cooked to perfection. Service was fast and the server was kind and cheerful. She was kind enough to let us sit on the back patio with our dog even though the patio wasn't open yet. She brought our pup some water too. The waitress ( if you could call her that) was so engulfed in her phone that she didn't even think about clearing my dishes and God forbid she took 20 minutes to get me a glass of water. Service was horrible. We picked out of our restaurants for our anniversary dinner to come here tonight. And we stood up for several minutes before taking herself to the table. Then we sat and waited for five minutes till the waitress came and got our drink order which even took another several minutes so we got our drinks. We waited about 20 minutes for our food, but shortly after that, then we got our appetizer, but we thought we would get our appetizer first which we did not. The whole entire time the waitress ever really came back to ask how we're doing or to refill our drinks. I had to get up to ask for horseradish sauce that I never got. And also to let them know that the fries that I ordered were cold and asked to get hotter fries. Waitress seemed annoyed and kinda had a body language of not wanting to be there at work. Really did not enjoy experience or that customer service Service of the young Waitress at work tonight. Viking Inn underwent some remodeling a year ago which included revamping the menu. In the past year they have frequently altered their menu, often removing the items I like best (like speghetti) and not replacing it with items I do eat. Their breakfast menu has largely stayed the same and is a decent value for what you get. The rest is iffy. They do some pretty good boneless chicken wings from the appetizers. The BBQ is plentiful and tangy and smokey. The fish and chips is usually what I get now and they are average -- about what you could get anywhere for the same price. The remodel is nice and the booth seating tables are pretty big. Easily enough to sit 6 people. The rest of the space doesn't look like it is utilized well; the table and chair sections aren't organized nearly as well and they don't match the new interior and booth areas. Overall, I'm not a huge fan of Viking Inn. Perhaps someday they will get a stable menu with a few choices that I like. The BBQ wings are fantastic and the breakfast portion of the menu is a decent value. The remodel looks OK in parts and the rest doesn't really match. Overall, there are better choices in the Eugene area, so often I just go there. read more

We attended the soft re-opening and it was great! Servers were friendly and attentive, even though it was their first day serving people. The food was good! The OMG sandwich was great, especially the bread (which comes from a local bakery). The pesto penne was good too. Had their biscuits and gravy this morning. Amazing! They are available here even though they don't appear on the menu. Hands down my favorite thing they serve. Breakfast here is always great the pancakes are huge and tasty. My family always gets stuffed hash browns. Coffee is average. The service staff is always kind and helpful. Went to the Viking tonight as a easy dinner with the family. I ordered a gluten free no cheese club, but what I got was a hamburger bun with turkey lunch meat and bacon with lettuce and tomato. When it got to the table I was informed that the kitchen put it on a bun because they did not want to use three slices of bread. Mind you I have ordered this before without any problems. My plate was covered in shredded cheese as well. Minor other issues like having to request refills and delayed return of wait staff. It's a shame that this restaurant is going down hill as it was great when first opened and was one of our go to places. read more

Arrived first in what became a wave of customers (5) tables, they were just hit all at once we were seated first, we had our drink and then food order taken after all of the other customers, all 5 tables were serviced before us although we arrived and were seated first not a horrible thing, I'm no Karen but aggravating non the less) because watching the wait staff go to each table while you're patiently waiting starts to make you a little upset, we finally ordered food and I was not impressed. I ordered the OMG sandwich it was very poorly put together the ingredients weren't layered on the sandwich at all they were kind of haphazardly placed on the bread which made me have to pull it apart and reconstruct it so that i wasn't just getting bites of one ingredient but a little of everything like a normal sandwich, it was made with very dry kind of off colored looking turkey it held no particular flavor just very very bland. I ordered curly fries as the side which is an uncharge of $2.75 from "regular" fries kind of strange but I understand the cost of different items is inevitable. I Ended up paying almost $20 for my meal and it was not just not good, not something I wanted to continue to eat, and I left still feeling hungry (but for something with taste and visually appealing) that paired with the order in which we were serviced placed a rather bad taste in my mouth. My daughter ordered the French toast plate and they gave her a side of French toast instead of the platter, husband ordered the fish sandwich and said he liked it. I'm always pretty happy with this establishment. The food is pretty good, though a bit like diner food, which isn't a bad thing. When it's busy they don't have enough servers, so if you order food it can take some time. I will say, however, that all the servers are very friendly. Here's the thing, I didn't hate my dinner experience. It was pleasant - our waitress was attentive and made sure everything was good, and that we didn't need anything, drinks came out fast, my grandma got her dipping sauce in about a minute. The service was great, my sandwich was tasty, but the main thing I like is the renovations. I haven't lived in JC for about two years, but the Viking Inn was the last meal I had here before I moved. Coming back, after so much change, I'm nothing short of blown away. Maybe it's the architecture lover in me, but everything seemed better - I love the visible beams, the lighter wood, all the space they added between tables. It all seems BRIGHTER, and I remember always being a little upset because it used to be so dark, inside. Atmosphere gets 5/5 Service was a 4.5/5 And their food gets a 3/5 - my sandwich, the OMG that sounded absolutely amazing, was decent, but all I could taste was the turkey and swiss. It definitely wasn't a good indicator when I pulled up to pick it up and there were no other cars in the parking lot. The fish and chips were inedible, completely dry and bland all across the board. The chili was more like a heart tomato soup I don't think I've ever had celery in chili and they went way too heavy on the tomato sauce absolutely no smoky flavors like typical chilis have. Some friends and I came here for brunch one day and we had about 13 people. We walked in and already by the way we were treated when they asked was not okay. Their customer service was horrible. We waited an hour after being seated to get our order taken and then when we got our food we were asked if we all got everything, some of us were missing some food and told our waitress and she brushed it off and got frustrated. Then she came back and told us that we were right and we were missing some of our food. She then charged most of us for things we did not order and when we told her she got annoyed that she had to change the bill. The last few times we've eaten there they have either misplaced part of our order or, what seemed like, totally forgot about us. Then over this last weekend we went in around 8pm with our 7yr old and got turned around because its only bar service after 8pm according to the server. We drove to town and tried again on Monday at 7pm and was again turned away because bar service started at 7pm not 8pm.. "Because it changed"... Its very sad the decline of service, increase in wait times and the quality of food. If you asked me when they first reopened, I would've given it 5 stars, no question. You have to understand, I get how a business can be torn apart by a small town attitude so I don't say this lightly. I look at these menus and I get downsizing but there's a small handful of options, only breakfast at 11:30, okay fine streamlining, I get it, but the weird part is drinks, sides, and the other typical things on a menu aren't there. But whatever. We wait. A. Long. Time. My companion is great company so we're laughing about it by the time the waitress (not the hostess who seated us) kind of wanders over and asks us if we've ordered. I say nope, she rolls her eyes and we order. I was raised to be super polite y'all so please remember I wasn't snippy or rude through all this. I ask nicely if they have cottage cheese, ask for a substitution for the hashbrowns and no toast. Not a hard order. She leaves. We wait. There is no second round of coffee for about a half hour. A table is left dirty behind us. The people in the other booths are pretty sardonic, the atmosphere isn't great. But the building is pretty because the renovations are nice and my company is great. We don't complain. We don't wave anyone over. We're interested to see how bad this gets. Finally we get food from a third person. She is not friendly, but she does ask if we need coffee. I look at my plate and guys, they didn't even get it right if I hadn't made changes that made the order easier. There's an egg missing. There's a pile of hashbrowns, and all of it looks gross. My threshold for greasy spoon eats is great and mighty, this food looked awful and it's not like the choices are complicated to begin with. So I say, as nicely as I can that this isn't right. She is immediately displeased. I explain what's wrong. She snaps, so what? You want another egg and cottage cheese? I'm like, well yeah. I mean since that's what I ordered. She takes the plate, gets our coffee, and snaps that it's going to be a while before I get my food. And that's when I was over it. I watched all three of those women standing still behind the bar, chatting at each other and not doing their job, and I would have dealt with all of it and just not come back, until I got snapped at for Being A customer. We dropped a few dollars for the coffee because my friend did not bother to touch his nasty food, he informed them that we were only leaving due to her attitude, and we walked out. I doubt they cared. Went to the 99 Grill in Harrisburg for the first time in two years and had a blast! Great food, happy patrons, great service, and employees who actually seem like they aren't butt hurt they have a job. The Viking needs to figure out their priorities. read more
