We have been here twice now and love the service at the bar.. Jessy is a super star! Fast, friendly and efficient! Just what every business hope's for in a bartender... She waited on all of us at the bar on a busy night and made all the drinks for the servers. Always smiling , happy and accommodating. She is definitely a 5 star but unfortunately the food is still a 3 star. I understand that they opened with little or no training , and so I'm sure that it's going to get better and I would still continue to go back on our visits to Junction City. It's certainly the best place around. I think if the the kitchen had good strong spec sheets and a kitchen training so that they make sure to get all the ingredients included and presentations done properly, it will probably be a great place soon. The atmosphere and the decor are awesome along with an outdoor patio. The employees all seem to get along together and have a great time which lends to a joyful atmosphere. I write this with the best of intentions and hope that as a new place Viking will take some of it to heart. This place is adorable with a clean fresh interior(please put a purse hook in the ladies room stalls)and has SO much potential. First, make your menu match the actual hours of serving breakfast. Menu says 2PM and they stop at 11am. The first time we went we arrived at 11:30am and left because we were after breakfast. For the second trip we arrived in time and I ordered what I came for the "Dutch Baby." I was really disappointed. The batter was tough, it was lukewarm, the apple stuff on top had a really canned taste and worst of all the "syrup" was a greasy, thin liquid not even remotely reminiscent of Maple Syrup. I get that real syrup is expensive but you could offer it as a paid extra like many places do. My husband had a standard type breakfast and his ham was more like a jerky. The hash browns were mediocre. Sort of a bit burnt and soggy at the same time which is kinda hard to do. I know the wait staff was entranced by the Lady Ducks Softball Game and it showed. I will certainly give this place another try maybe for lunch or diner when they have had time to work out some of their issues. I would love to have the food and service live up to the great job they have done on the space. read more

I was so excited to see this place get an overhaul. That excitement and the overall look of the place is the only reason I didn't give it one star. I ordered a chicken sriracha sandwich with coleslaw and recieved a very lousy (in taste and shape) chicken strip between two sadly doughy buns, with maybe two to three bites of slaw that had an overly sour taste. I hoped the salad my fiance had ordered would be above standard, but she said it was on the warm side and recieved a few olives when she asked for none, no bleu cheese crumbles as ordered and grilled chicken instead of the crispy she'd ordered, as well. I would like to say it was because it was busy (within the first week of opening) but upon our second trip when the place wasn't packed by anyone's standards, we recieved a similar messed up order and sub par, at best, food. With deep sadness, I recommend going elsewhere. read more

This was our a second shot since last weekend was opening thought we would give them a break. So far we have waited for an hour for an omelette and a breakfast burrito (not sure how much longer). Coffee is nasty, country music blaring, and less than hospitable wait staff. I would rather walk out but my husband is too nice so we'll continue to wait. read more

Food is good and never have had a problem with service. This post is regarding the patio seating area which unbeknownst to us also doubles as the "smoking area". No signs indicating this nor did the host point this out as he was seating us. If you want to sit outside on the patio to eat don't go to Viking Inn unless you want or don't mind having cigarette smoke with your meal. read more

Pre-COVID I have ridden my motorcycle over 2 hours from the North to go to the Viking Inn. Suffice to say, I love this place. The staff are great the food is fantastic and I like the remodel. I even tricked a friend into riding with me down there 2 years ago who didn't want to ride that far. Once we got there and he had a chance to sample the food he changed his mind and was glad we went. Once I start eating out again I will be back ASAP. I'm so glad they have managed to keep the doors open during the World crisis. read more

We enjoy the Viking Inn and it has become our home away from home...especially when I don't want to cook. Service is good, food comes relatively fast and they keep our drinks filled. For breakfast the Dutch baby is worth the wait but I also enjoy the breakfast burritos, not to mention Sunday's all you can eat brunch. For lunch they have great burgers and sandwiches. My son's favorite is the French dip. For dinner the steak is delicious, as is their macaroni and cheese. The steak bites are a must have. Highly recommend this restaurant. New atmosphere was great, ordered the Viking burger with egg and ham on it. First bite into the burger the egg yoke blew out all over my hand. After the cleanup the burger was still good lol. I have had about 6 meals at the Viking and only one meal that was a disappointment. I enjoy the service and the customer service the place is clean and has a wonderful atmosphere. Being a local it's nice to have a good place to eat after a long day or want to refer friends and customers to. Still need to try the breakfast, been wanting to just can't get up on the weekends. The remodel is beautiful. If you'd ever been into the Viking in before the new owners you would be amazed at how much better the layout and design is. I waited to write this review as our first experience shortly after opening wasn't amazing. But we've been back several times for breakfast and for cocktails in the evening and I can say they have things figured out at this point. I wish there was more gluten-free options as I have a gluten allergy, but other than that the food is good and the service is also very good. Happy to have another local restaurants to choose from. read more

I was very excited to try out this new restaurant. My wife and I went to eat dinner 3 days after it opened, giving it enough time to get organized. After the order was made, we waited 30 minutes (strike one!) and asked the waitress what's the hold up? She inquired and 5 minutes later we were served. Waitress was polite. I order fish and chips with coleslaw. My fish was so-so. The fries were very overcooked and hardly edible (strike two!). My wife ordered a salad and bread. The bread was missing. When she asked about the bread, the waitress she said they were out. We waited almost ten minutes for our bill and finally asked the waitress for the bill. Ten minutes later, we estimated the bill and dropped the money at the cashier's desk (strike three!) Very disappointed. Will try again hopefully they will get their act together... read more

This restaurant is closed and being gutted. Hallelujah!!!! Good riddance. Ate there once and once was enough. Ordered a hot turkey sandwich and what I got was deli thin sliced turkey (?) meat in a plate overflowing with canned gravy that was yellow and mashed potatoes that were lost in all the gravy. After that our running joke was "Let's all go to lunch at the Viking". I shutter to think what they will find inside that place. read more

Do you love rubbery chicken? Do you like chicken that is cold on top and piping hot on the bottom? I don't think any of us do. I normally like this place, but today I was very disappointed. I ordered Italian chicken, and the first piece was rubbery. Almost like it wasn't cooked. I told the waitress it wasn't good when she asked, so she went to get more. The second piece had a lot better texture, but still didn't taste the best. It was not hot on top, and very hot on the bottom. I know the second piece most certainly had to be microwaved, and I'm guessing the first piece was too. It even looked microwaved. Any chef who uses a microwave to heat or "cook" food should be ashamed. That's not cooking, that's heating. read more

Ate there once, Son said the food was good, but he had not been there since it had changed hands. Boy the food is terrible, the service is terrible. My son even agreed. The amount of fries he used to get is a 1/3 of what he got. The burgers were over done. The fries were mushy, was wondering were the crispy fries went. Order was wrong, Getting service was hard. And when there was a spill and it was being cleaned up the waitress pulled the soping towel over my ex-wifes plate. The cook does not know what he is doing with a menu as simple as that one it should have been easy to find someone to cook. On a friday evening it was empty in there. Will never go there again. Pretty bad when going to McDonald's would have been better. Oh and bring the fly swatter with you. You will need it. read more

This was our second visit to the new Viking Inn. Our first experience was mediocre. Biscuit was so hard my husband couldn't even cut into it with his fork. Bacon was terribly greasy and food was barely warm. We wanted to give it another try. Food was a bit warmer. Hashbrowns don't have much flavor and over medium eggs should not have any runny whites. My husband's toast was completely cold. It took just under 40 minutes to get our food. We will likely give them another try.......but the issues need to get resolved soon!! read more

We love this small town restaurant! The staff is great... We are weekly regulars and love the swedish meatball dinner, or fish and chips. My only complaint is that the fish n chips portion is too much. We'd love a half portion option. Best fish n chips around for sure. Ian at the bar is our favorite Thanks for the great service! Realizing it is newly opened and heard nothing but rave reviews. Disappointed. Seated and order taken around 2:30, food arrived around 3:00. Food was typical bar/tavern food nothing to jump up and down about. One party had the OMG-tater tots were cold. The other two of us had the french dip. Was cold and order was not correct but rather than wait another 1/2 hour accepted sandwich. Had to ask twice for check and still did not get it-went to register and took five minutes to sort out check. Person at register said our waiter would take care of it from the table. The one and only time we saw him was when he took our order. Did not return to ask how things were or acknowledge we were there. May be willing to give breakfast a try but I hope they improve on their service. read more

This is our second dinner at the new Viking Inn. It was great! I had the Southwest Chicken Salad with extra meat. My husband had a Ribeye Steak with salad and baked potato. We were both very happy with our meal. The wait staff is really stepping up and improved since our last visit. They are working hard to fill a need for a good place to eat in JC. Ate there once. Breakfast. Not impressed. Went there when they opened at 7am. Maybe 8 customers in the place and our food still took too long to arrive. My wife had an "omelette" where they put the ingredients on the plate and then lay the eggs on top of it. I had a regular breakfast, eggs over easy, sausage, etc. The eggs were runny, not completely cooked. The kicker was the price. My breakfast at Pops, and a Guaranty, in JC, cost about $8. This place used to be great a few months ago. Servers were attentive & friendly. Now every time I go in the servers are rude, forgetful and don't know how to accommodate. We were there last Sunday. Came for breakfast I called ahead as it was a party of 10. Arrived about 10 minutes early. Our table was all set up waiting for us. Some of ate the buffet and some placed orders. Everybody really enjoyed their food. My husband has ordered the steak and eggs the last three visits with steak being perfect every time. This is now our favorite breakfast place for Sunday mornings. We love the food and the service. The OMG sandwich is also delicious. read more

Love the remodel. Great food and good service. Disappointed though because we went there to celebrate a birthday and they did nothing!!! I am not disappointed in not getting a free dessert, it's more so the point that there was absolutely no acknowledgement in the celebration. In this day in age it's very disappointing to spend money on dinner out to celebrate something special and have no acknowledgement. Been to the Viking inn 3 times. Shame on me. First time I had a rib eye steak and it was OK. Side dishes were frozen vegetables. 2nd time we tried what they referred to as the breakfast buffet because they said a regular breakfast would take over 30 minutes to make. Worst breakfast buffet I have ever been to. No toast, and even though several burners going for omelettes they wouldn't fry an egg. potatoes soggy and cold. Bacon chewy and cold. Can't say it enough, avoid the breakfast buffet. 3rd time Ordered a dinner item and was told they haven't started to prepare the item yet and would take an hour. I ordered soup and salad. Salad was mostly lettuce butts withe some cheese and onions. Soup was so ungodly salty that neither my wife nor I could take more than two bites. Wife ordered item that ended up not being available, only after they brought the salad. Well I sent the soup back and ate part of the salad which had what tasted like bottled dressing on it. Wife ended up having a sandwich. Got the bill and they charged her for her original order then tried to say she two sides. I was charged for soup. They ended up reducing bill by $1.50. We were still over charged but by this time I just wanted out. Like I said shame on me. read more
