I have to start off saying that I did have a genuinely amazing time and am so glad I came to their 'A Bohemian Affair'. I heard about it pretty close to the event and my friends I came with had heard of the winery before. I went in with no real expectations. I get around by cane and am a lot more mobile somedays than others. I cannot recommend this to anyone with mobility issues. I was able to get around a bit but the parking lot is gravel, there is a VERY epic hill one needs to hike up that is also gravel and steep and the grounds are very uneven throughout with rough stairs and such. Where they wanted most people to "sit" to picnic was a hill of gravel. The lawns are uneven. The space is gorgeous but again, this is a nightmare if you have any mobility challenges. I truly appreciate the thought given to everything here and I sincerely feel that they are just doing the wine as a means to fund their gardening and space which makes me clap and scream bravo. The space is gorgeous though i saw some of the website photos and some of the areas I think were better previously - they seem to keep adding gravel and I wish they would go with that old world feel they are trying and even do cobble or stone walks. Anything but gravel. Which brings me to the wine... I chose the rose and that is one of the first bottles of wine I genuinely found uncomfortable to drink. My friends said their Pinot Noir was just as awful. I noticed later that even the label is haphazard. It was shockingly bad and I am not a wine snob in the least. So, with all that... I say that is you want to experience a sort of rustic Spanish villa you stumbled on to definitely drop in. I am sure their tastings are maybe where is at for some but their tasting room has an incredible view of the grounds so that alone is probably worth the gravel trek in and $15. read more

I can't decide which was more stunning at this hidden gem. The lovely stone architecture or the gorgeous gardens and surrounding walkways. Lime and olive trees, eucalyptus, cactus, and so many flowers, vines and bushes. My husband and I felt like we stepped into a countryside winery in Spain or Italy. The Pinots, Sauvignon Blanc were delicious and we even lucked out by going on a day when there was an opera singer sharing her voice with the crowd. $15 a person for 6 generous tastes is unheard of these days!!! Tastings are offered only on Saturdays from 1-4 pm, and they require a reservation. You can bring your own food/picnic. We really enjoyed learning about the owners' journey and how they built this must see paradise tucked away in Oregon City. I will be going back many more times and bringing friends! read more

My daughter had seen pictures of the winery and really wanted to check out Villa Catalana while in town visiting. We reserved a tasting for last Saturday. The grounds are definitely special. Gorgeous landscaping surrounds the villa and paths that lead around two ponds. They've got a few patios, areas for larger groups, and small tables scattered all around in more intimate settings. We participated in our tasting of 6 wines while meandering for a couple of hours. The wines were good, the service cordial, and the smell of wood-fired pizza fills the air. Fun times :) read more

This is not the first event we have attended at Villa Catalana Cellars. But this is our first review. Their Opera Picnics, their interesting Rare Plant Nursery and their lovely wines make every event a joy. Spending an afternoon in a castle, sipping outstanding wine and in the summer, wood fired pizza, is just a wonderful, relaxing way to end the week. The French Art Song concert was charming. The conservatory is resplendent with flowers and trees and feels like we have left the country for a moment. read more

This place is stunning. I don't know if I've been to a winery in the area that has this level of landscaping or gives the feeling of being transported to a villa in Italy like this one day. I snapped a ton of photos of the plants and I did feel inspired to step my garden game up. I would give this place 10 stars if it was being rated on ambience alone. But there were a few things that made me knock a couple stars off... Reservations: You have to make a reservation to come here, but that doesn't guarantee a table for your party. You get your wine and then have to walk around to find somewhere to sit. When we came here, a wedding was taking place, so it decreased the amount of space available. I'm honestly confused as to why reservations are required; it may just be something they do to gauge how much wine they need to uncork. Getting around: This place is not friendly to those with mobility issues or if you're differently abled. Nowhere on the website does it say that you have to walk up a hill from the parking lot or that you have to walk around the grounds to get more wine (they don't serve you). Also, a lot of the tables are down sets of stairs and some areas would not be easy to navigate with a wheelchair or walker. This wasn't an issue for us, but it did surprise me since it doesn't say it anywhere on the site. The tasting: The pours in this wine tasting are just one star. You only get a couple sips out of it, and they tell you nothing about the wines. You also have to walk to their wine serving stations, so you may be waiting in a line to get served. It felt a little like being at a bar and not a winery. The wine: I thought the wine was just so-so. I honestly can't remember any of the wines standing out to me, and I'd go as far as to say that most of the reds tasted exactly the same. The rose was petty nice, though, and the price point for a bottle is very reasonable ($25-$30). I think we're very spoiled here in Oregon because there are so many amazing wineries. If you are looking to have a day that's Instagram-able, there might not be a better place than Villa Catalana. But if you're looking for truly good wine and the level of service at most wineries, this place isn't it. read more

The vineyards are a class by themselves. The owners have taken extremely great care in developing a botanical garden style for the vineyards. The owner is quirky with zero customer-service aptitude. They are very proud of their wines which are so-so. We joined a member who spoke highly of the place but agreed that the membership benefits weren't all that great and had warned us that 'attitudes' can be a bit of a turn-off, They were spot on! What is nice is that you can walk the gardens as you sip wine. I'll give them that because it's truly a relaxing experience. If you can put up with borderline disinterested service level, so-so wine then take the time to enjoy this place when the weather is great and you can enjoy the beautiful landscape and gardens. read more

Villa Catalana plays hard-to-get because it's only open 3 hours out of the week but boy was it worth the chase! I was trying to find wineries with nice views and sceneries for my recent trip to Portland and found this place which I'm glad I did! It's just about 40 minutes south of Portland so it's not far away at all. By the time we got here at 1pm on a Saturday the make-shift parking lot was already full of cars. It turns out there was a wedding going on at the time but the actual winery and tasting room was pretty busy as well. It costs $10 per person for a tasting of 7 wines which I think is a really good deal. We got our first glass and hung out in the area. There are places to walk around and just chill, from a bench to overlooking the entire area to a beach chair on a wooden floor on the lake. There's even a little dragon and a cave for you to take pictures and peek your head in. After we finished one tasting we would go back to a gentleman who would refill our glasses with the next wine on the list. My favorites were the 2018 Pinot Goir, the 2018 Grenache Rose, and the 2015 Red Blend. It was a really nice way to spend a relaxing and chill couple hours on a weekend, especially when the weather was great. If I lived in the area I could see myself coming here every so often. With $10 tastings it would totally be worth it! read more

Lovely setting and a nice walk around on a pretty day. Wines are so so. The first white in the tasting sequence was by far the best I've f the 6 pours allowed. I'm not usually a white wine fan but this was crisp and clean with just the right balance of orchard fruit and minerality to be refreshing. The pour size is TINY though. I'm guessing about 2 tablespoons. And the pizza may be cooked in a wood fired oven but it the cheapest frozen pizza right out of the bulk-purchase box - looked like what I remember from High School cafeteria. We had a nice time walking around but you're barely there for the wine and not at all for the food. read more

Parking is tight, and there's a trek of a walk up a hill to the tasting area. I think you can probably drop people off on top before parking. The wine leaves a lot to be desired; however, we all like different stuff. Bathroom situation is challenging. Quite a few people, only one restroom. And people certainly take their time. The line for tasting and the line for the bathrooms intermixed. Pizza guy was lovely. Lots of places to sit. But the rest, not our jam. read more

I cannot recommend this winery enough. This was such a pleasant surprise for my boyfriend and I! We came to this winery not knowing much about it or about the wines & we left SO excited to go back again with friends and family. This winery is absolutely breathtaking. Like when I say it's beautiful, pictures don't even do it justice. It used to be a garden before being converted to a winery. The premise of wine tasting here was different then I had ever experienced! Instead of sitting and having your wine/tastings delivered to the table, you went up to a table, grabbed the first tasting, walked around and explored, and once you were ready for the next tasting you would head back to the table for the next one! There were so many areas to explore that we never got bored! There were 7-8 tastings, which we were surprised by as well! One of my favorite parts of this winery was how many places there were to sit...they put seating all around and in very unique areas. This winery is definitely worth the visit! read more

While many wineries in Oregon are beautiful, nothing quite compares to Villa Catalana. It feels like being transported to Tuscany as you walk up the driveway to the rustic house with the beautiful garden. The tasting room is breath-taking, surrounded by tall plants underneath a see-through roof. The reservation fee covers several tastings, and you are free to roam the property as you please. Their bottles are relatively cheap as well, I just had to buy the rosé. The owners are very laid back, and let you treat the home as if it is your own. VCC is one of the most romantic settings I've experienced for a long time, and I'm a devotee of romantic settings. Yelpers note the Spanish church inspiration, whisperings of Tuscany, and the touch of whimsy throughout the gardens--I'm in 100% agreement: this place is magical. We enjoyed a glass of wine as we wandered through the gardens and drank in the views. When we returned to the terrace, the caterers had a themed buffet of grilled veggies, salads with edible flowers, and pork and chicken. It all tasted great. After dinner, the owners helped us get a group photo before we descended on the bocce court for several rounds of competitive recreation. In between events, owners Cindy and Burl shared their stories on how they created a masterpiece out of a pasture and a row of trees. Go for yourselves to enjoy and to learn or to just relax. This place is amazing!!! Made a pit here and did not regret it. The property is out of this world, it felt like I was in another part of the world. I was surprised how large this winery is, there was so much to explore. I spent a good chunk of time in the greenhouse/atrium and had a wonderful conversation with the owner. The atrium was awesome- they have all kinds of cool plants, even a banana tree! Also, they had a little basket of cucumbers and zucchini for anyone to take. I did the wine tasting and was blown away by the Pinot Gris - which I am not usually the biggest fan of and actually ended up buying a bottle of. The staff was very friendly and we brought a dog with us- which we were unsure if that was allowed. Luckily, the owners love dogs and they also have water bowls out in the atrium for dogs. I highly recommend walking down to the pond and look at the super cool metal dragon. There are also super cool statues and columns everywhere. This was one of the most breathtaking wineries in Oregon for sure. There is lots of space which is nice, it's definitely a must for larger groups as they have beautiful covered tables everywhere that are shaded with a canopies of flowers and plants. Stopped into Villa Catalana today and I am so glad I did. Just a stones throw outside Portland (located in Oregon City), you feel like you've hopped on a plane to Europe. The scenery is lovely and there are numerous seating options available throughout the property. I ended up sitting on the pond and enjoying a picnic with a bottle of wine after a tasting. The tastings go for $10 each with 7 pours. A glass goes for $10, and most bottles are somewhere in the $20-25 range. You can bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery with your wines! It was a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon, and I highly recommend checking it out! read more

Terrible! Rude and deceitful. We were with a disabled guest. 6 of us. We finally found a table and they made us move for a wedding. Totally fine and understandable if they had blocked it off and prepared ahead of time but it was open to The public and people were everywhere. For some Reason our table was targeted and we had just got everyone settled with wine and food and we were rudely told to move. No one assisted us, apologized, or helped at all. We were basically to F off and that it was our problem. I have an idea- if you care going to a wedding, maybe don't try to make More money by packing guests in that have no where to sit, ling lines and crowds that arent part of the wedding. And if you don't want people there at your wedding, then don't be cheap and tent out the whole thing. The bride should be ashamed of herself allowing people to be treated this way. My friend bought a 6-person flight at a charity auction and took 5 of us to join her here for the afternoon. What a shock to cruise down the beautiful country lanes and end up at a vineyard that looks like a Spanish Castle. Or to me anyway. To others, it might look like a villa in Tuscany. Upon arriving, we entered an outdoor covered atrium area and were started with our first flight. The husband and wife owners were there, pouring, and were a delight to talk to. The villa had a $10 plate of appetizers but they had let us bring our own picnic, so we grabbed a large table outside, under an awning of foliage, on a patio over looking a lake, set out our cheeses and meats and then tasted our flight and bought extra glasses of wine, because we didn't want to ever leave. After we'd worn out our welcome, we took photos on the lower stone patio then walked around the grounds before leaving. Our pictures turned out really nivr, but it's one of those "You have to see it to believe it" kind of places because a photo can only give it so much justice. Really pretty, very light wine pours. But it's a reasonable-ish tasting fee, from other reviews it used to be $10 which would make more sense for how much wine you end up getting. Suggest quickly drinking all your tasting, buying a bottle (pretty cheap for PDX area wineries, $25ish) and enjoying the wonderful gardens. Not a ton of shade. Also even with reservations it felt kind of crowded (parking lot was pretty full) and while they have a disclaimer to supervise kids people were ignoring that and there was some kids throwing rocks in the pond/yelling so it wasn't always peaceful. It was my turn to plan our yearly reunion of old friends and found Villa Catalana and oh my it exceeded my expectations- serene and beautiful - we felt transported. The Pinot Gris was the favorite but we also came home with a couple bottles of the dessert wine I highly recommend watching the YouTube video about how the gracious owners got the idea for the building materials, retaining walls and gardens. This is one of the coolest, most unique wineries I've been to in Oregon. Very beautiful grounds , the whole operation is very disorganized. They make a big deal about being on time and only staying 1.5 hours so we came 15 min early for a 1 o'clock tasting and the gate was chained up till 1 exactly. We came up the drive and was misdirected to the check in twice by there employees . They have a pizza oven in the garden that is really cute but they are cooking 3 dollar frozen pizzas and selling for 15 dollars . You are supposed to wander between tastings but over half the grounds where taken up for a wedding. Really beautiful gardens and ponds , the restroom was dirty and we where the beginning of the day. The wine was below average but we really did not get a lot of info about it other than reading the printed sheet on the table . read more

Ventured here for the wine tasting and had a great time. Even though it was during the winter, the grounds were still very beautiful - I look forward to seeing it during the spring and summer. The tasting itself is held in a greenhouse with so many lush plants and trees - it was very comfortable, especially with it being cold outside. The tasting was inexpensive (only $10) and we sampled 6 wines. We liked them all and brought home a couple of bottles of our favorites. Everyone was extremely friendly and we enjoyed talking with the owners and other patrons. It was a relaxing and easy going way to spend the afternoon! Villa Catalana is a surprise gem that is only about 20 minutes outside of Portland. We will definitely be going back to try their monthly lunch buffet! read more

I love this beautiful winery. The scenery alone is a reason to visit, but the typical 10 dollar tasting is a generous selection of 7 or 8 options. They allow you to bring food when they don't have a chef providing food at one of their farm to table events, or you can pick up in of their wonderful grab bags of snacks. (The ones i saw included meats, nuts, crackers, something sweet, hummus, etc.) There are lots of places to have a semi private group meal or just a little time together. This is a wonderful place! One possible issue is that handicapped parking was not obvious. Drive up to the building. There are a few spaces there. For those with limited mobility but no placard, drop them off and then go park. The walk up is essentially half a block up a slight incline, but is on dirt and or gravel so hard on walkers or canes depending. read more

We ventured to this place on a rainy day, weary of what was to come. They had a beautiful greenhouse sitting room indoors for wine tasting. We ordered the cheese pizza (only choices were cheese and pepperoni) and the wine tasting. The wine tasting is only $10, and you get to try 6 different wines! Each pour was generous, and I was not disappointed. My personal favorite was the blend and the Syrah, and some of their wines erred on the sweeter side. The best part was the property itself. It takes you back to the European countryside, and it is a sight to see. People actually live in the villa itself, and the tasting room is attached. I look forward to coming back here in the summer to see their property bathed in the Oregon sun. read more

The atmosphere is breathtaking, but the hosts were rude. Atmosphere: Castle Vinyard tucked away in backwoods Oregon City. From the main building, to the pond, to the walk up, the whole place is a picture waiting to happen. Parking: More then plenty Staff: The owners were not attentive and actually left us feeling like we were bothering them with our weird questions, like what would go good with this and what would ruin the flavor. Wine: It may have been a result of my taste buds altering to my mood, but the only one I didn't want to avoid was the one made from import. Food: Not sure, didn't stay long enough to find out. Enter the facility as you check in outside to receive instructions and your first one ounce pour. Here you are instructed as to where the "outhouse" is (right next to where you got your first taste). From there, explore the unkept grounds as you stroll with your glass of something they called wine. Yuk! That was just the start...the "wines" got worse as the tastings continued. Seven of us never made it past the fourth pour as our tasting became a laughable experience. A walk through some stylish grounds, yup, but a wine tasting, not even close. Save your money. Go to your local Safeway store, buy a bottle of Ripple, sit back and enjoy a good ball game or read a good book...If someone had given me this advice in advance, I'd have saved $105.00!
