(And enough for takeout to make an extra meal.) Oh yes...And a spicy margarita on the rocks with tajin around the rim. Should have asked for muddled serrano pepper to make it spicier. The only positive note is that the service was very good, the server was attentive. We ordered brisket nachos. What an incredible $14.99 disappointment. This was not an appetizer, but an entree. The plate came with 10 nachos which were 95% refried beans and cheese. There was at most 1 teaspoon of absolutely tasteless brisket on each chip. Note: I am being EXTREMELY generous by saying it was less than a teaspoon. Nachos are one of the easiest things a Mexican restaurant can make, it's simple to make and should be brimming with flavor. They even forgot the jalapeños , which were listed in the menu description. If I am ordering $14.99 entree nachos; I would expect a plate of layered nachos, filled with plenty of meat and all the other accoutrements. Now, I don't know about you, but I do not go out for Mexican food expecting any form of religious involvement. I found Bible verses on the top of each menu page as offensive. Food was good. I can't say that I was blown away, but it was good. Service was excellent. The only thing I would suggest is to fix the lighting. Lighting is everything. It creates an ambience; a mood. Even when food is ok the lighting makes it better. So - to the restaurant - please go through and take out all of those bright white light bulbs that give off a "blue hue" and change them out for Soft White. Doesn't have to be Amber. Just not that crap bright white. And replace the bulbs that are dead/missing. If you have it in your budget, hang some pendants over the booths. Went here for dinner last night and got seated immediately with both indoor and outdoor options. Our server was helpful, accommodating, and made some great recommendations. We started off with some margaritas, i got the mango one which tasted great and you could tell that they used fresh mango rather than some sugary mango nectar. We also ordered the table side guacamole, which we thought needed some salt/seasoning which we added at the table. The salsa also left more to be desired, it had a slightly sweet flavor that was throwing me off. For my main, i ordered the flautas with the servers recommendation of salsa verde. The food was absolutely the best Mex Tex I have eaten since childhood in south Texas. I had the three cheese enchiladas with chips , salsa , guacamole , and corn tortillas soaked in Butter. My wife and I have been here a few times over the past year, but last night was not what I expected, beginning with being seated at a booth, which we requested. Menus were given to us, and as we were very familiar with their Taco Tuesday specials, we asked our server, Louis, for two Happy Hour margaritas. He told us that the only happy hour margaritas were the large, frozen (@$10 each), which were not defined. Not a problem, but people should know what they are ordering and at what cost. Tortilla chips and 2 small bowls of salsa were served. The other four times we had visited, we were served warmed, fire-roasted salsa as well. This time, we had to ask for it. We told our server that we were there for the Taco Tuesday specials but did not see them on the menu. Louis pointed to a table tent, that listed only 2 options and told us that the specials "for Taco Tuesday are there." A change in the menu? OK. We opted for fajita combos, chicken and beef, served with rice and refried beans. When the entrees arrived in our chosen floor tortillas, there was a LOT of salad piled on top of the minute amount of meat in each taco. Eating my beef taco, I noticed that there were only two small pieces of beef on the taco and remembering my chicken taco, I again remembered a VERY small portion of chicken. We requested more tortilla chips and salsa, and more were promptly served. When we finished, I asked for the check and was very surprised to see "Recommendations for tip" printed on the check for 20%, 22% and 25% for my check total, with calculations on the check telling me what the percentage would be. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WAS THAT THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TIPPING INCLUDED TO TIP ON THE TAX AS WELL!!. I have opened 30 restaurants and know the federal laws for tipped employees, and SO MANY things were wrong with this: 1) The server was not well-trained to know the difference between menus, nor offered us the special choices or options. 2) The server looked like he was going to drop beverages on us, as both times, bringing water and margaritas, the tall man squatted so carefully with the beverage tray, that it made me feel uncomfortable, as if he were about to spill the beverages. 3) Having to ask for the fire-roasted salsa, when it had been brought out to us each beginning of table service for the PAST FOUR TIMES, brought about the question "Is management cutting back on the complimentary items served?" 4) Small amounts of beef and chicken on our fajitas, which I already covered. BUT THEM TELLING ME I SHOULD TIP 25% FOR THE WORST SERVICE AND PRODUCT I HAD EVER RECEIVED THERE WAS INSULTING! I asked to speak with a manager to let him know of our displeasure and asked how long the manager had worked there. "Three months." he replied. I started to explain all of the problems we had encountered and went into detail, that e understood federal laws for tipped employees, and that the recommendations put on the check were extravagantly high and asked us to include tipping on the tax. "Oh, I had not noticed this," said the manager. Let's say that the establishment has an evening shift of $3000 gross for the evening, including tax. $247.50 is the taxes. Asking patrons to tip on this amount will come to approximately $86,000 a year, BEING PAID BY THE PATRONS, which goes straight into the owner's pockets and the server does not get any of that. Sure, the server will get paid out what the client writes out, but the federal laws telling the owners that the server must declare a certain amount, does not reflect the responsibility of the owners to compensate for lack of wages below 8%. For any manager to feel authoritative to know the entire restaurant, the offerings and product served as "Oh, I had not noticed" reflects on the ownership of this chain (I know there is a second location in Denton). The recommendations of the owners to include tipping on the tax as as well is totally deceitful and should be brought to the federal, state, and city tax authorities. This is subliminal theft. Be aware and become alert when/if you choose to go here. What is being taken out of your pocket is not how much they tell you up front, but more. read more

Do not let the construction stop you from visiting. I have been here multiple times from over the summer until this fall. Their charro beans actually made me start ordering it. I normally do not order any beans with my mean but when I tried villa grande I was a convert. I've literally order them to go most of the times I go. They have really good margaritas as well. Visited with a group of friends, ordered pineapple Serrano margarita. Was good. My friend ordered a berry mint margarita. They ran out of mint, swapped cilantro but didn't disclose. Next I ordered the brisket platillo. This plate was supposed to have a taco, a quesadilla and an enchilada. I received 2 taco and an enchilada. The enchilada didn't have any cheese, just meat inside an uncooked tortilla with sauce. The 2vtacos also had just uncooked tortilla with nothing else. Biggest issue was it wasn't brisket. It was pork. I brought g ht this to attention of waitress, she insisted it was brisket. This was truly a white meat, not beef. It tasted like pork! It was pretty dim, some of the items hanging in the wall looked pretty dusty which was slightly worrisome. It took a really long time for them to stop by to take my order. This is apparently a very popular place, saw lots of people come in for lunch, but like some others have reviewed they are short staffed and attention to tables is affected, been pretty much going to places out of my comfort zone to try and experience different things and not stick to the usual, the menu here is extensive and for the most part pretty good, I had the basic combo fajitas, serving of rice, mashed pinto beans, guacamole and Pico, chicken and beef fajitas on a zizzaling hot plate with onions, the chicken was a bit on the dry side, the beef was moist but the external was a bit on the burnt side and made for a hard chew, flavors were ok nothing out of this world, corn tortillas are store made,not fresh that was a downer, just ok. We had guacamole as an appetizer, and was made in front of us, fresh and really tasty, chips and salsa are also good. Wife had some shrimp plate she said was good and shrimp were very large, kiddos had some steak and other chicken foods, they also agreed was ok. Again not a bad. I used to eat here all the time recently returned after several years and it is still fantastic food and service. Went for dinner with the rents we all had different meals and all of them were delicious. They serve a nice large Margarita. The chips and salsa tasted very fresh although I prefer a little spicier than was served. Our sopapillas were super fresh a delicious too. This place is pretty dang good! Came here for lunch and it was really tasty! I really enjoyed some shrimp tacos with bacon. Rice and beans were also well cooked and seasoned just like I like it! Very disappointing service tonight. We eat at Villa Grande all over North Tx but tonight was not a pleasant experience. Our waiter was really nice but I don't know if he was new or overwhelmed. We rarely saw him and had to flag down other staff for service. One of the areas of disappointment was when we ordered a jalapeño margarita and it had no heat at all to it. Waiter never came by so I got up went to the bar and got some jalapeño. The drink just wasn't good so my guest told the waiter it was really bad and she would just take a strawberry margarita. Waiter took the over 3/4 full drink and brought the strawberry margarita. Bill comes and the charged for the jalapeño margarita. We ordered it so that's fine but why not tell me I'm going to be charged. I would have drank it and got my guest what they wanted. Besides this they messed up on two of the meals which I didn't even bring to their attention until I insisted on talking to the manager because waiter said he had to charge me for the drink. Once again if they had just explained the drink situation I would have dealt with it but no they just wanted to sneak it onto the bill. What a disappointing night. read more

It's probably as good as any of the other mediocre or fast food places in Aubrey crossroads but when you talk to the manager and he takes your order and you specifically tell him pico de gallo on your nachos and , he reads it back to you but get home and you gotta make your own pico . Didn't have any avocado so I couldn't make the guacamole that I ordered. I've always been that guy that like I'll let it go.
